TL;DR To check your Target RedCard balance online, you need to log into your account on the Target website or app. If you're experiencing login issues, consider contacting customer service for assistance.
Logging into Your Account
To check your Target RedCard balance online, you typically need to log into your account on the Target website or through their mobile app. However, some users have reported difficulties logging in due to system upgrades or verification issues [3:1],
[3:6]. If you encounter problems, it might be necessary to reset your password or contact customer service for further assistance
[3:4].
System Maintenance and Issues
Be aware that there have been periods of scheduled maintenance that could affect access to your account. For example, a week-long maintenance was previously scheduled, during which users were unable to access their accounts online [4:1],
[4:2]. If you are trying to access your account during such times, you may need to wait until the maintenance is completed.
Using the Mobile App
Using the Target mobile app can simplify the process. By linking your RedCard to the app, you can manage your account more easily without needing to input details at checkout [5:1]. The app also provides additional benefits such as viewing offers and saving receipts
[5:3].
Alternative Methods
If online access is not available, you can call the customer service number provided on the back of your card to inquire about your balance [2:2]. This method can be useful if you are facing persistent login issues or if the website is undergoing maintenance.
Customer Service and Support
For ongoing issues with accessing your account, contacting Target's customer service directly may be necessary. Some users have experienced long wait times, so it's advisable to try calling during off-peak hours [3:5],
[4:5]. Additionally, reporting any unresolved issues to consumer protection agencies like the Better Business Bureau could be considered if problems persist
[4:6].
I am genuinely curious to see if we can get that information.
The red card? Why would you need that information?
Because I am curious. I literally explained that.
There is no way to check the red card for transactions.

Yes
I want to check my gift card balance but it keeps redirecting me to Target’s home page (aka Cyber Monday’s page kind of thing). Is there another way?
There should be a number that you can call on the back of your gift card that tells you the remaining balance.
Tysm! I guess calling is the only way since I am used to doing it on the website.
I add them to my app
I just want to logon and pay my bill I keep getting verification code sent to my phone. Then I entered the code and it goes back to the logon screen.
One big circle.
Target you suck. What bank needs a week to fix or upgrade a system. It was supposed to be up 3/18 12 am cst
Update for everyone: After waiting 30 min in queue, I spoke to a Target rep today. I pushed and argued with the agent until I got the truth… Target corp got a new internal system and is having problems with it. And if you pay your balance, the credit will not become available for 2-3 weeks. Target is not telling cardholders this. I dragged it out of her. Said agent kept trying to put the blame on my bank and said they needed me to call my bank to verify info (I was like what info and why? You already took my money and the balance shows $0). I knew my bank wasn’t the issue. None of the agent’s facts were lining up and she was contradicting her story in an attempt to hide what’s really going on. TARGET EXECS HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO NOTIFY CARDHOLDERS AND OWN THIS CRISIS. A public statement needs to be issued!!
Is everyone still having issues logging into their red card accounts? Please reply here. I contacted several attorneys who will start an investigation for a TILA violation against Target. The more that speak up about this, the better. This may very well become a class action lawsuit
Unable to login today 7/2. Super annoyed since I quit shopping Target when they bent the knee but a book I preordered a long long time ago finally shipped and the charge came through. Turns out I had to reset my password. Generally when websites have upgraded they send out an email telling you that you need to do that. FU Target.
I am unable to log in. It sends a verification code to my phone, but always says it’s incorrect when I enter it.
I was told 7-10 business working days, I paid in full 18/3 and still no available credit updated.

I went to log in to see what options are now available since they took away the alerts to tell you your bills not paid. It said my log in was invalid. It keeps telling me I don’t exist when I try doing a forget password option. If I try the forget username, same thing. It gave me a number to call and I tried. I selected keypad options and the system said it didn’t recognize the options I was pressing. I tried a different number option and it finally went through. 55 minute wait time. I hung up. I’m not doing this today.
Are you still having issues logging in via your cell phone, a tablet or desktop? I contacted a TILA attorney. Truth in lending act violation. There should be a way for consumers to view their statements and have this ability. Anyone experiencing this please reply here.
Same thing happening to me today. Online chat and tried giving me the number to call, told them I already tried that and am not waiting that long. I'm beyond irritated right now.
same here. i can't even change my password. i go through the change password thing, get the temporary PW, and as soon as i do the email verification it says "Oops, something went wrong....." i cancelled my account a while ago and don't have my card anymore so i can't make a new one, but still have an active balance. this has been going on for 3 months now and it's very annoying.
A week-long downtime for upgrade is insane in 2025. And then to not have the site work...you really have to wonder about competence.
It keeps loading for me can’t get in
Anyone having issues with their card today? Mine wouldn’t process, I can’t log into the my card access and I called customer service and the wait was over an hr!?
System is scheduled to be back up tomorrow. This was a week long scheduled maintenance they have emailed several times about and also had a banner on the site.
You can still pay by phone or in store :) hth
Thanks not sure how I missed that.
Yup. It seems their system was offline for an entire week to make changes, which is crazy. I've been trying to login all day with no success.
Super….. TY
Anyone else get charged INTEREST yesterday from not being able to pay their bill??
Yes! Trying to get ahold of them now it’s been a pain for the past hour. What have you done? Wont this hurt credit scores?
It absolutely will! This is messed up. I kept accidentally hanging up with clicking the button on the right of my iPhone so I gave up for now. I might try to call back during a slower time later tonight. But I’ll report this to BBB if they refuse to fix it
Yes me too. Kept getting a verification code sent to my phone then back to logon screen
I guess no one pays attention to their emails. They sent out an email back in February that there was going to be a maintenance from March 11 to the 18th 12am CT time. You can still use the card but you won't be able to go on the website
When using the RedCard at checkout, can I skip inputting my phone number and still get all the same benefits? My RedCard and phone number are both connected to the same account.
EDIT: thanks for the responses I guess. Not sure why some of you were so apprehensive, but whatever. I’ll try to get in the habit of having my barcode ready since scanning that is faster than the chip reader.
No completely different benefits. Target Circle phone number does not equal RedCard.
Your phone number is for target circle. It’s to earn 1% if you don’t have the RedCard. It’s to get customized offers based on your shopping preferences/habits. Circle is how you find all the offers/sales available in store/online to get more “discounts.” Circle also saves your receipts so if you need to do a return but don’t have the receipt or card, you can look it up in the app.
RedCard is just that, the card (debit or credit). You save 5% every time you shop, have a longer return window, and are eligible for free shipping.
So. Skip the phone number if you like, but don’t go to GuestService yelling at us because you had to cancel your card and get a new one and now we can’t do a return with card look up. Don’t go yelling at us because YOU skipped the phone number at checkout because “you didn’t know,” or “didn’t want to take 6 seconds to type in your number,” and now you’re receipt isn’t in the app.
Do as others have said. Save your card into the app. Scan the barcode to pay.
Here’s a trick for you. Have it ready by time you get to self checkout, and maybe you’ll save the 6 seconds of unlocking your phone and opening the app and you won’t miss the stoplight down the road.
You’d be forgoing target circle. Missing any saved coupons/deals and not having your receipt kept easily viewable by you on the app.
That being said, you don’t miss out on any RedCard benefits.
You don't get the 1% earnings when you use the RedCard. If there aren't any sales you wanna make sure you get, or you don't care to have record of the transaction on the app, then you can skip the number. Otherwise I don't think there are really any benefits to typing it in.
I tell guests to ALWAYS use the app, there are so many sales on the app, there are also manufacturer coupons! Besides what others have told you, Target donated money to your local area. On the app ( if you use it) you earn votes on where that money can be spent!
The one thing I ask my guests, PLEASE scan your items BEFORE you come to the checkout line OR to Self Check Out, if they decide to scan once they get to them it creates a bottleneck and a line quickly forms. Use the Discover button then hit the barcode scanner on the top right hand side of your screen to scan bar codes on products.
Have a good day!
So scan items with my phone as I grab them, then when I get to checkout I scan my phone and it automatically rings everything up?
No, you scan to see is the prices are different because occasionally online prices will be cheaper online than store (cashiers can change that) Also, by scanning it will show you if there is a coupon for that item! You can then save it to your app and when you checkout, the cashier scans your barcode and it will give you the 1% and take your coupons off. If you have a red card you can link it to the app and pay that way too!
Download the app and link your red card to it. Then you don't have to do anything with the pin pad, Just show the cashier your in app wallet barcode.
I normally use self checkout. I’d rather pay with my card than my phone because it’s easier to take out a card than unlock my phone, open the app, pull up my barcode
from my experience, using the app is vastly more efficient than using the card. have it ready while walking to the checkout and scan my barcode first. once you scan all your items, you press two buttons and you’re done.
So you’re lazy…..
I am new. I tried searching for red card but couldn’t find a solution. When I search for institutions, I only see target credit union and target credit card—is one of these supposed to work for the red card debit option?
A Target debit card is basically just an electronic check card. The way I understand it when you use your Target debit card it's treated basically the same as using a check which is why it takes ~3 days for the transactions to post in your checking account.
I would guess that because of this it may not be link-able since there isn't truly a unique account related to it. If you link the checking account your Redcard charges to with YNAB then the transactions you make with it will be pulled into YNAB when they post in the checking account (with ~3 day delay from purchase).
Don’t think you can. Since it comes out of your checking account, I just log them as purchases on my checking account.
I just use it the same way I would any other purchase, since the amount comes out of my checking account like any other debit.
I just enter it in my checking account, ideally before I forget and have a withdrawal surprise me 2-3 days later.
the red debit card links to your checking account, so I don't link it. It takes ages for transactions to come through, but it works
I cashed in my total reward points to get the prepaid card. Is there a website I can go to or app to check the fund status
The card typically takes 7-10 days to come by mail. You should get an email the day it mails out. Once it comes, you'll activate it and set up the ability to check the balance on the website or by texting BAL to the number on the back of the card.
Thanks
I log on to the site directly. The information will come with the card once you receive it.
Got a $50 reward card. Wasn't expecting it but now that I think about it I think it was from a promo when I signed up over a year ago. But I've used it a few times online and it would be nice to know how much is left? This is just an e card that is only in my account so there is no website or phone number mentioned.
Sounds like a nice surprise! 😉
Drop me a DM with the account details, and I'll check the balance on my end.
Ok, figured it out before I saw this post (I went thru my email receipts and subtracted) but you may want to suggest that there should be a way to do it online.
Yup, you’re right - I’ll pass this on. 🫡
I know the feeling. While what I relate to is not Target, it's the fact that my local grocery store website has a five-step verification for logging in. It's only three steps if you've logged in within the last 7 days. But if it's day eight, you have to enter your phone number, Your email, Your password, verify the private PIN code sent to you in your email, verify the private PIN code sent to you in your text messages, and then you can log in.
Even my bank doesn't have that level of security.
I moderately shop at Target and pay off most credit cards on time. How do you folks feel about the Target Red card? Is it worth it? As compared to the price Walmart/Krogers/Jewel/Safeway offers without their credit cards?
The Target debit card also offers a 5% off discount. It connects to your bank account and you get a PIN number. May be a better idea if you’re looking just for the discount.
I had the debit card for several years but just switched to the credit card after my wife made 26 Target purchases last month, which ended up costing us an excessive ACH transaction fee from our credit union. :( Just signed up for the credit card last week, we pay off our credit cards in full every month and use YNAB to ensure we don't overspend on credit anywa.
26 transactions in a month, all at Target? That is a lot. I love Target but I don't know that I could make 26 trips in a month across in-store and shipping.
Depends on how much you shop at Target. 5% each Target purchase with it does come in handy. We use it and pay it off each month and buy what we can from there.
I only have a couple of store cards. This is one of them for the 5% discount. I only use it there.
My others are CostCo and Lowes.
Lowe’s will run deals for 0% financing at different times so have used for appliance purchases. Also have my military discount (5%?) tagged to it with the rewards program.
CostCo gives various % rebates, extended warranties, and is my backup CC.
I don’t know what rates they charge as I pay off each month. I believe the rates are not the best.
I have a Target Redcard (debit) and find it to be great. In my case, I live 2 miles from a Target and find myself shopping there out of convenience even though Walmart or grocery stores tend to be cheaper.
You can use your Redcard to get 5% off gift cards, which is why I got the Redcard in the first place.
After the 5% discount, do you find it cheaper than other grocery stores?
Honestly, it depends on how you shop.
Long story short, if you like Target’s products, why not get the 5% discount. I think its YMMV when it comes to comparison shopping at Target/Walmart/grocers. I find some things cheaper, others not so much, some deals are great stacked with 5% off, other stores sometimes have deals that are better.
If you don’t want to run to 10 different stores trying to get the best deal, I think the Redcard is the best thing out there for one-stop shopping.
This is going to be location-dependent but some things at target are the same price or cheaper than my local grocery marts and some prices for certain things are higher. You’ll just have to compare and see if the extra stop at another store is worth the savings.
I’d recommend the debit card version, provided you can keep a good track of your balance in your checking account since it doesn’t instantly debit from your account. The 5% discount basically covers my state taxes so every bit of savings help AND target also offers 5 cents off for every reusable bag you bring in. Additionally you can add your card to your Target app so you don’t even have to carry around the card physically.
You say groceries, so I’m thinking you are talking about buying food and not the bulk of what target offers. Correct? If you’re trying to save money on groceries, there are better options. Where do you live? Is there a Winco? Food4Less? Cost Plus? Those are all cheaper. Even Aldis would be a better option on groceries.
I love it, but I spend a lot of money at Target. You get 5% off as others have indicated, and it’s always stackable with their other promotions. You also get free shipping and free returns on most items, which is the biggest perk for me.
They ship quickly, and I often find they have comparable if not better deals than Amazon.
Saying that you pay off “most” credit cards in time tells me you’re in credit card debt. Getting a target card for the small 5% discount knowing you have a habit of incurring 15-25% interest on your cards is a bad idea.
