When your phone refuses to power on, it can be a frustrating experience. Here are some steps and considerations based on community discussions that might help you troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.
Basic Troubleshooting Steps
Hard Reset: For many phones, performing a hard reset can resolve issues where the device appears dead. For iPhones, this involves pressing the volume up button, then the volume down button, and holding the lock button until the Apple logo appears [5]. This method has worked for several users who faced similar issues
[5:1]
[5:3].
Charge the Device: Ensure the phone is charged. Plug it into a reliable power source and leave it for at least an hour before attempting to turn it on again [2:2].
Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the phone for any visible damage, especially around the charging port. Debris or damage can prevent the phone from charging properly [1:2]
[1:8].
Button Combinations: For Android devices, try holding the power button along with the volume up button for about 15 seconds to see if it restarts [4:1].
Advanced Considerations
Screen Issues: If the phone vibrates or makes sounds but the screen remains black, the display might be faulty. In such cases, visiting a repair shop could be necessary [3:1]
[3:3].
Battery or Internal Components: Sometimes, the battery or internal components like the motherboard or Charge IC chip may be faulty [5:9]. A professional diagnosis can determine if these parts need replacement.
Repair Shops: If basic troubleshooting fails, consider taking the phone to a certified repair shop. They can perform diagnostics to identify hardware issues, though repairs, especially involving the mainboard, can be costly [5:6]
[5:7].
Preventive Measures
To avoid future issues, ensure your phone is regularly updated, handle it carefully to prevent physical damage, and consider using protective cases. Regularly clean the charging port to prevent dust accumulation, which can interfere with charging [2:3].
If you're unable to resolve the issue yourself and the cost of repair is prohibitive, it might be time to consider purchasing a new device, especially if the phone is older [1:1]
[3:5].
Did the screen break recently? Did it charge after that ?
It looks like the screen damage stopped the phone from charging. You have to get this inspected at the service centre.
It charged regularly for the 2 months that it was working.
To be honest, you should have gotten the screen replaced, it sounds like some shards or other debris may have messed the charging part somewhere out damaged the main board.
As far as I know, the service centres only replace the entire mainboard, at least according to the out of warranty parts list in my country. Mainboard replacement is almost the entire cost of the phone, at least in my market, not economical to replace, you also have to add a display.
Are you for real?
That thing is cooked.
It's literally smashed. In the area of the USB board.
You should feel lucky it was working before at all.
Don't get me wrong I am, and it did work for around 2 months after the screen broke
That was 2 months to save up for a replacement device.
learn the lesson for next time
Just get over it and buy a new phone bruh.
That's not an option bruh😭🙏
You’re gonna have to, bruh, the good thing for you is these phones are cheap.
Personally for me, using the phone this obliterated is worse than not having a phone at all. Getting a new one is the only option, they are dirt cheap.
It's dead, Jim
Have you tried not destroying it?
It looks like it needs charging
Looks a bit dusty. Could be that choking the phone.
Try turning it off first and then turn on again
Have you tried putting the car that ran over it in reverse and finding a time machine that actually works?
Yes i did, sadly didnt work
Put it in rice. Wash the rice with the phone in it. Then cook the rice with the phone in it. Then pray.
Alright thanks for the tip! I will not forget to pray
Most important part
Okay so basically my phone screen wont turn on. It's not broken or cracked, I was on social media and had to do something so I clicked the power button to turn the screen off so it wasn't left on when I wasn't using it as one does. I came back and my phone would not turn on. I tried to restart it and it would do the vibrating as if it was working but the screen itself wont show anything. It's fully charged so it's not because the battery is dead but I left it alone and left it on charge all night and still nothing but when I plugged it back in yesterday, the white bolt popped up on the screen to tell me it was charging but after that, it still wont turn on. It didn't overheat or freeze either. I asked my parents about it and they think the internal screen is dead and needs to be changed. If anyone knows how much that would cost please let me know, or if anyone knows what's wrong with it.
I have a Moto Z3
Is there still a black screen even if you restart?
Yes, it buzzes to let me know it's restarting but it doesn't light up or show anything.
I'd probably look into getting a new phone.
Looks like the screen gave out. You’ll need to go to a repair shop or replace the phone.
It would be a waste of money to replace the underscreen on a Z3
Tell that to the person who may have invaluable information on their phone that they may want to preserve.
It's a 5 year old cheap ass phone...be grateful it lasted so long, but it is done for
Bro is hibernating 🐻
I have Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 and it does not turn on. I was playing some games and I turned my phone's screen of with side button but it shut down completly. I plugged in to charge it but it does not show any sign of charging or turning on. I have not had this problem until know my phone has worked fine until now. What can I do to turn it on or what caused it?
This is not a software issue
Try holding volume up and power button for about 15 seconds or until it restarts
Hi Everyone, I work at a cell phone repair shop, and over the past few weeks I have noticed a very high volume of people coming in with an iPhone 11/13/14 where the phone will be completely off and showing no signs of life, and hard resetting it wont work either. I'm here with a solution:
Plug in the device to power, then perform the hard reset (pressing the up volume button once, pressing the down volume once, then holding the lock button until something shows up on the screen. (Note that the 'hard reset' doesn't erase any of your data, it is simply effectively like unplugging the battery and plugging it back in)
I'm not sure what Apple recently did on the back end that has caused this issue to pop up so frequently, and why only doing a hard reset while plugged in works but yeah. It also recently happened to my iPad Pro 11" 3rd Gen and my mom's iPad Air 4. I have seen it most commonly on iPhone 11 series, and regular iPhone 13's and 14's. It's also really weird because when i plug any of these devices into my amperage meter, they will show that they aren't drawing any power, which is usually an indicator of a completely dead device. Even weirder is that my ipad, as well as a customer's phone today were completely dead battery-wise but both devices still wouldnt accept a charge or have the dead battery logo come up until i did the plug in reboot.
TLDR: If your iPhone is not coming on and your carrier says you just need a new phone (which they keep telling people), it's probably not broken, and don't worry.
Sorry for reviving an old thread, but this has not worked on my mother's iPhone 13 pro. Yesterday it randomly shut off and won't turn back on, I tried hard resetting it about 20 times now without success.....The charging port is clean and the cable works fine, I tried plugging it into my pc as well and it won't recognize it at all.
were you able to resolve the issue? having this problem right now with my 11, it isn't working
Nope! I brought it to two different Apple authorized repair shops, one wouldn't do anything at all before I paid 400-500 euros for it. The other checked with some device to see if the phone received a charge, which it did, but the screen did not show anything at all, they told me that the mainboard might have died and it would cost about the same amount to get it repaired as the other shop asked for...
In the end my mother said it's not worth getting it repaired and she bought a new phone
THANK YOU SO MUCH! This worked for me and I finally got my phone back on I was soooo worried!!!! Thank you thank you thank you god bless you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I don’t know what to do my iPhone 14 shows the apple logo like it’s gonna turn on but never does I’ve tried charging it for 2 hours still won’t turn on only shows the apple logo any suggestions to fix this issue?
My iphone was completely dead, not drawing power when plugged in, and this worked. Thank you so much 🙏
I'm happy this helped! I wish Apple would release an update to fix the issue! We had someone come into our shop that they told was just dead and they needed a new device, and I did this and got it back working in a minute
Hey I'm going through this now, I dont have any back phone, any tips other that what OP mentioned?
Hi there, I am having this issue on my iPhone 13 Max Pro. When it turned off it was at 90% battery. I have a usb adapter to check current draw and it’s “drawing“ 4mA, but every now and then will jump to 38mA and then back down (This happens when it’s just plugged in and when I do the button press sequence). It’s been about 5 hours now, and I’ve tried holding the button for 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 10 minutes, and nothing. Any idea what repair stores would be able to if the device won’t even draw a proper charge?
Thanks so much!
Just an update on my situation for anyone else - repair store took the phone apart and tested everything they could and said the issue wasn’t power related & the phone would need a new motherboard. So they told me to sell it for parts & get a new phone. Really disappointed as the phone was only 2 years old and in perfect condition otherwise.
I’ve seen a few videos of problem points that might be as simple as replacing a blow capacitor, so I might give it a go at checking that out.
I would check to see if maybe the battery needs to be replaced. A lot of times, if the phone isn't pulling the proper charge, it'll be that the battery has gone bad or the Charge IC chip has gone bad
Ah good call! Thanks so much for you help!
Hello internet friends, i need y’alls knowledge 🥸 So yes my iphone doesnt turn back on after playing ds emulator for hours.
Yes it had plenty of battery and no exterior damage. This phone is in great condition, maybe its phone temperature? It is warm when in use.
I highly doubt it overheated. What iPhone model?
Try hard reboot.
Vol up, vol down and keep power pressed until Apple logo appears.
Ds or 3ds? Which emulator and which phone model/ios?

Charge and then turn it back on?
Put them in the rice
Did you fill it up with water first?
Of course
Las leyes de la termodinamica es lo que tienen. ¿ Eres de los que tiran agua caliente a los cristales congelados del coche ? Pues mas o menos lo mismo.
lol nice 😂
Put it in the microwave for as long as an hour lasts
Have you considered that using a faulty cable may have compromised your phone?
No. It works with other phones
You aren't understanding. Just because electricity is passing through it doesn't mean it's not doing other damage. When you use a broken cable you run the risk of improper amounts of electricity to push through.
I'm sure it'll charge things, but with any surges you run a risk of frying your electronics.
This cord is all taped up, my assumption because it's faulty/exposed wiring/etc.
Seems like you may have fried something in the phone that is integral to it's operation.
It's either the botched cable you are using, or the phone is stuck in a boot loop. We need more context. Have you tried unlocking/modding your software? Have you tried holding the power button and volume down buttons for about 20 seconds?
No. I changed the screen of the phone
And I'm going to hold the power button and volume down for 20 seconds
It didn't work
And before I changed the display, i could hear a sound when I plugged the phone
Get a proper cable, charge it till it has 70% then try flashing new firmware.
I never tried e flash a new firmware but I'll try that
I used to work in smartphone and PC repair, keep me updated I might be able to help you.
By the way, please throw that cable away; USB cables have two power pins and the rest are data pins, if the data pins are damaged or power leaks into them, the cable will still charge because the power pins are fine but it'll harm your phone; best case scenario you corrupt your firmware worst case scenario you fry your hardware.
In replacing the screen, is it possible you've damaged a ribbon cable or something internally to the phone? The screen does not look properly seated, you can see the backlight bleeding from the left and top of the display.
I didn't seated the screen because I wanted to test if first.
And I just took off the display assembly. I didn't get to the motherboard either
something to do with that gnarly cable maybe ? just a guess.
Nope. It works perfectly fine with other phones
Did you try a second rice? Like a second grain of rice?
Try turning it off and on again.
it doesnt turn on in the first place so its not possible to turn it off
r/beatmetoit
Try again
More rice.
put it in hot rice
Kind of went overboard on the freezing process. No big deal just put your microwave on about 60% put that puppy in there for about three minutes and you’ll be good to go and the bonus is the battery will be charged.
can i do it to charge my functioning phone?
Yes but only at 40% power on the microwave
Idk, I think this is more of a "by a big fire" drying process. RIIIIGHT at the edge of the 🔥.
Put it in some rice
r/haveyoutriedrice
How did you made it overheat in the first place?
I hammered it (it was running slow)
I don’t think the cold is your problem then..
Well of course it’s gonna break easily it’s one of those cheap ass piece of crap Nokias
Give it a blanket
And a Nokia-sized tomb, to improvise
