How to Get Starfruit Seeds in Stardew Valley

TL;DR

  • Buy starfruit seeds at the Oasis shop in the desert after repairing the bus [1:3].
  • Seed makers are generally not recommended for starfruit due to cost inefficiency [4:1].

Buying Starfruit Seeds

The most straightforward method to obtain starfruit seeds is by purchasing them from Sandy's shop, The Oasis, located in the desert. This option becomes available once you repair the bus [1:3]. Buying seeds is often more efficient than using a seed maker, as one starfruit wine can yield enough profit to purchase multiple seeds [4:1].

Using Seed Makers

While seed makers can be used to generate starfruit seeds, they are generally not recommended for this crop. On average, a seed maker produces two seeds per fruit, which results in a financial loss compared to selling the fruit or converting it into wine [4:2]. Seed makers are more beneficial for crops like ancient fruit, where seeds are harder to come by [3:10], [4:4].

Alternative Strategies

Some players prefer focusing on ancient fruit instead of starfruit due to its profitability and perfect timing with keg production [4:3], [4:6]. Ancient fruit seeds can be obtained through various methods such as fishing, bug hunting, and using the seed maker with other fruits [5:1], [5:3], [5:8].

Recommendations

For players looking to maximize their profits, investing in starfruit wine production is advisable. Ensure you have access to the greenhouse or Ginger Island for optimal growing conditions [3:1], [3:3]. Consider balancing your farm with both starfruit and ancient fruit to take advantage of different growth cycles and profitability.

I have the moon melons and starry fruit from the quest. But how do I get the other seeds? I used the magic swap fertilizer on turnips/cauliflower planted in star soil and only get more turnips/cauliflower… is it just rarer than regular swapping?

You can buy seeds in skyvale from one of the vendors.

It might be a storyline thing then as you can buy seeds for all of the fruit eventually in skyvale

They’ll sell more as you progress. Cloudy seeds recently popped up in the store for me.

Put it in a keg and sell the wine. Without any bonuses, that will sell for 2250 which is enough to buy 5 seeds. The best you can get from seed maker is 3. I think you'll on average make/save more money even selling the fruit unprocessed, especially if you have the Tiller profession and/or it has higher than normal quality, but I'm not 100% sure about that. But it's a bit of a gamble. With the seed maker, you might get 3 seeds in which case it's a win unless it was a gold quality fruit and you have tiller, but the seed maker might also give you one seed in which case it's a clear loss, and possibly mixed seeds which is a loss etc.

I just bought 150 for a sprinkler patch, should I make kegs for wine before they grow? How long do they take to ferment? Should I store some starfruit exclusively for wine?

2 upvotes on reddit

DvDmanDT · 3 years ago

They take 7 days to become wine in a keg. In my current save, I sold all gold quality starfruits and made wine of the rest. It's the most profitable thing to put in a keg, so if you can afford to save them and make wine of them, I'd do it, but chances are you need to sell some of them for cash here and now.

In Sandys shop The Oasis, it's unlocked when you repair the bus. If you can't get there it might be a different story. But honestly I'd still make wine and take the money now instead of trying to propagate them with seedmakers. Do you have the greenhouse?

I planted all my ancient fruits in greenhouse and I fill all the farm in ginger island with starfruits, then turn them into wine and place them in kegs.

Almost every seed is cheaper to buy than to get via seedmaker.... a notable exception is strawberries because you can't buy them at the beginning of spring and they make a lot compared to other spring crops.

Agreed. The seedmaker is only useful when seeds are hard to get. Great for Sweet Gem, essential for Ancient, and absolutely essential for Qi Fruit.

Not really. The renewable crops are almost always profitable in the seed maker, and some other ones on top of that.

It's the big bois, like pumpkins/starfruit, that should't be seedmakered.

Starfruit: buy seeds or seed maker?

Posted by Noisy28Cat · in r/StardewValley · 1 month ago

Those who make star fruit wine late game instead of ancient fruit, which way do you get your seeds? This is reason I’ve always been hesitant to switch over even though I know it’s more profitable than ancient fruit, I can’t decide if it’s better to spend time making seeds or spend money buying them (although I guess either way costs money since seeding them costs the fruit itself). Lemme know your techniques, including time management if you want! I can use all the info I can get. Thanks!

Seed Makers aren't worth it here. You'd need to sacrifice half your crop to replant with an average of 2 seeds produced per fruit.

That means you either convert one starfruit into a wine worth 2250g/3150g or two seeds worth 800g. That's a loss of 1450g/2350g per fruit.

The only situation where this would be profitable was if you were selling unprocessed fruit without the profession bonus, and then only fir regular quality.

TheSlayer51_ · 1 month ago

My advice is use ancient fruit, I’ve done the calculations. It is better, and some people will argue that starfruit is better because when the kegs are done, you can put it in another starfruit, but my rebuttal to that is just make more kegs.

Chance_Membership740 · 1 month ago

the timing for ancient seeds and kegs is so perfect too , it lines up exactly lol u just need one keg per plant and one day for harvesting and kegging. huge fan

Seed makers aren't ever worth it except for ancient fruit IMO. Especially since all high value crops are worth more than twice the price of the seeds.

Blueberries also aren't bad in the seedmaker. Too many to keg them. A normal berry sells for 55g, the seeds for 80g. And if you plant 200 you'll get ~15 ancient seeds from the seed maker.

Buy seeds. One starfruit wine will net 3,150g, and you can buy 7 seeds+. In average, you will get 2 seeds out of one starfruit from a seed maker.

No, I think you have like a 3% chance of something of making mixed seeds and ancient fruit can be used to make more ancient seeds so that would be like 95% chance for ancient seeds. You would have to look up exact numbers on the wiki. I'm not sure if I have them right. Check out the seed maker page

Rainbow Fruit Seeds, where are these, no clear guide available.

Posted by Primary_Wish660 · in r/ElinsInn · 8 months ago

I spent nearly 2 hours checking Moon Portals, not a single Rainbow Fruit plant, and whenever I harvested plants I got zero seeds with my scythe anyway.

I have stood and reloaded nearly as much at both the Mifu seed vendor and the Ecopo vendor.

Is there another way of getting these seeds? If I switch to the Harvest god, how do I extract seeds from the fruit bought from Mifu?

Kumiromi's apostle can generate rainbow fruit seeds with its special ability.

They take 8 fertility, compared to grapes 5 and berry's 1. But they are quite good.

I've had the Kumiromi pet fairy for quite a while. The only time she produced rainbow fruit seeds is if I left her at base and adventured without her. If I let her join I get nothing even after she eats.

IRL Starfruits... recurring, juicy, and putting my entire Stardew greenhouse to shame ⭐ 💁‍♀️

Posted by 007secretlinguist · in r/StardewValley · 3 months ago

I wish Stardew’s Starfruit was even half as generous as this real-life tree in this backyard.

In-game? One-time harvest, pricey seeds, and needs constant replanting. IRL? No Deluxe Speed-Gro. No greenhouse. No Junimos. Just vibes and abundance. Hundreds of fruits. Again. And again. And again.

Still haven’t bothered with a Starfruit wine empire in Stardew — too much effort for one lazy fruit. (I’m too lazy to keep replanting every season.) But this tree’s basically offering a lifetime supply of star juice. Should I start bottling and selling on Pierre’s black market?

(Also hi Stardew fam! First post here — brought fruit.)

Do they not turn yellow when ripe? I could never grow these because I live in a place with like 4 months of winter, but the ones I sometimes see at the grocery store tend to be very yellow!

Blandfruits grow only on the bushes, which you can find in the secret "grill" room and occasionally in the shaded garden room, So yeah, they're rare, I seldom find more than 2 in a walkthrough

4 upvotes on reddit

Any idea where the grill room spawns?

2 upvotes on reddit

Since it's a secret room, the usual rules of thumb apply: watch for small dead ends, inconsistencies in carpets in the dwarven city, any walls that may fit a secret room behind them.
Also: if the floor has the blue question mark as its modifier, that means that there is a guaranteed secret room on this floor, but there may be another one due to the standard roll

If you’re lucky enough to get three starflower seeds you can just cook them into an experience potion for the same effect if you didn’t already know, blandfruit just saves you two seeds compared to making a potion.

The most reliable method is to build a lot of seed makers and churn a lot of crops through them. It's expensive, but it works.

You can put common mushrooms from the mushroom cave into seed makers. Otherwise, hops and blueberries are good for producing a lot of individual crops quickly.

3 upvotes on reddit
[deleted] · 1 year ago

you can use the cheapest / fast-growing crops

you can restart the day (place seedmakers in another location)

so very reliable and not at all expensive

only issue is that the seedmakers itself is a "late" game item, so farming in the mines and elsewhere, is usually still faster. the seed maker is the last resort if you just not please the rng god

I think fishing. I got mine really early on my hyper-efficient play through. In early game you can get the most money from fishing in order to buy strawberries. I think I was like lvl 9 fishing by the spring festival and I think I got an ancient seed before that.

It all boils down to luck. The other place to get it is farming bugs, but that’s gonna take some time to build up combat skills/weapons/energy/mining/hp

How to get starfruit seeds in stardew valley

Here are the key ways to obtain starfruit seeds in Stardew Valley:

  1. Purchase from the Oasis:

    • You can buy starfruit seeds directly from Sandy at the Oasis for 100g each. The Oasis is located in the desert, which you can access after repairing the bus.
  2. Crafting from Starfruit:

    • If you have starfruit, you can use it to craft seeds. Simply place a starfruit in the seed maker, and it has a chance to produce 1-3 starfruit seeds.
  3. Treasure Chests:

    • Occasionally, you can find starfruit seeds in treasure chests while fishing.
  4. Foraging:

    • Starfruit seeds can sometimes be found in the desert, but this is less common.
  5. Farming:

    • Once you have starfruit seeds, plant them in the summer season. They take 13 days to mature and can yield multiple fruits.

Recommendation: The best method for obtaining starfruit seeds is to purchase them from Sandy at the Oasis, especially if you're looking to start a starfruit farm quickly. If you have some starfruit already, using the seed maker can help you expand your supply over time.
