How to Get to Calico Desert in Stardew Valley

TL;DR: Complete the Vault bundles at the Community Center or purchase the bus repair through Joja Mart.

Community Center Route

To access Calico Desert, you need to unlock the bus service by completing the Vault section of the Community Center. This involves finishing all the cash bundles in the Vault, which requires a total of 42,500 gold [1:1][1:3]. Once these bundles are completed, the Junimos will repair the bus, allowing you to travel to Calico Desert [2:1].

Joja Mart Route

If you've chosen the Joja Mart route instead of restoring the Community Center, you can still fix the bus. You need to buy the Joja Community Development Form from Morris at Joja Mart. This form allows you to purchase various upgrades, including the bus repair [5:2]. However, choosing this route will convert the Community Center into a warehouse, eliminating the option to complete the bundles and help the Junimos [4:1].

Returning from Calico Desert

Once you have access to Calico Desert, you can use the bus to return home regardless of how you got there. The bus will always be available to take you back, even if you arrive via a warp totem [3:1].

Plan on having 43,000 gold. I think its a little less than that but it's the money bundles. The skull carven is impossible though if you don't have the right equipment just as an fyi :)

Posted by sexualslothh · in r/StardewValley · 3 years ago

Or do you have to use a warp totem to get home as well?

So far I've only taken the bus to the desert to test run Skull Cavern before I try and reach the bottom.

Sorry if this is a dumb question and/or has been asked and answered here before. I'm fairly new to the game.

Yes! No matter what time you go to the desert and no matter how you get there there will always be a bus to take you back. The only difference is I think you have to drive it instead of Pam haha

Hello guys. I am new to this game and this is my first playthrough. I made the mistake of purchasing a Joja membership :( I don't wanna start over again so how would I reach the Calico Desert by fixing the bus now?

Funny enough, either way you just pay cash to get the bus fixed.

edit: realized maybe you were unsure about how to go about it...just go see Morris in the Joja Mart.

If you want to perform upgrades through Joja, you will need to buy the Joja Community Development Form through Morris, which unlocks the ability to buy the upgrades for the greenhouse, the desert bus, etc. However, if you buy the Development Form, Joja will turn the community center into a warehouse, which destroys the community center bundles and you can no longer fix the community center or help the Juminos.

If you were originally fixing up the community center, I would suggest you stick with that instead of switching to the Joja route. To fix the bus via community center, you need to finish the Vault room.

Fixing the bus through the community center is actually cheaper than fixing it through Joja. All the bundles in the Vault room cost a total of 42,500g, plus you get some pretty nice rewards for each additional bundle. If you fix it through Joja, you have to pay 5000g to unlock the Development Form (destroying the community center) and then pay 40,000g for the bus repair, for a total of 45,000g.

I am on my 10th year and I recently bought the bus to go to calico dessert. I actually don’t really know what to do in the calico desert except for buying things fishing and searching for cactuses and coconuts. I found out that there is a door and I think you need a key so can someone help me where to find this key and how to find it or how it looks like!

My 8th and 9th year I began being more serious like mining till I am exhausted or fish because I really wanted to go to the calico desert now I have the calico desert and I just relax more .. when I wasn’t married I was giving Sam his favourite food Everytime I could I would, talk to him till I got all the hearts and married him now he helps me sometimes in the farm . I got chickens and cows . So I actually got a pretty relaxed stardew valley life but I am trying to be more serious like not spending money or it’s work more ..

Well, I always tend to go the community center route and stay pretty goal focused on the bundles, which means I’m also spending a good chunk of time in the mines. Upgrading tools is also important to help use less energy doing tasks and improving efficiency. But here’s the thing. It’s really easy to get goal focused and miss out on the quaint nice things about the game.

For instance, I was on another forum and they were talking all about these things that Elliot does for them as their spouse. I was like, “I’ve been married to Elliot for 5 years and he never does that stuff for me!” Well, turns out if you stay out all day and pass out in the mines at 2am, then you never get to enjoy a quiet rainy night at home with Elliot cooking for you and heading to bed at a respectable 10pm. So, just as in real life, balance is important! Lol

You can also do this through JojaMart, though I recommend the Community Center for a first playthrough as it will help guide and teach you some game elements.

Sometimes you need to do some packages in the community center first, before you can unlock more bundle options in the other rooms in the community center.

If you did not do any package yet, maybe that's the reason why you can't see the bundle for the Bus in the community enter yet.

Unless you’ve already got a prismatic shard there’s no reason to rush to the desert. Rabbits and pigs are more important.

The desert is the only place where you can reliably get prismatic shards. If you only went to the desert after getting a shard through dumb luck, you would get there in like year 3 lol.

Did I say don’t go until you get a shard? No, I said don’t rush it unless you do. That 42,500g has better first uses.

There are coconuts and catusfruits which you can sell or turn into jam, also buying starfruit seeds is quite profitable if you buy a few, let them grow and turn the fruits into seeds with the seedmaker

You've barely looked. Try going away from the snow biome. Biomes are coded to that hot biomes are close together (as well as wet vs dry). You want hot and dry to find deserts and mesas and savannahs.

Have been on the same cactus hunt before and yes if I don't get it offered by a wandering trader I usually look for and igloo. It really irks me that you cannot mix blue and yellow to make green. Like even my 5 year old tells me it should be the case.

How to get to calico desert in stardew valley

Getting to Calico Desert in Stardew Valley: Key Steps

  1. Unlock the Bus:

    • You need to repair the bus to access Calico Desert. This requires completing the "Vault" bundles at the Community Center or paying 40,000g to the JojaMart.
  2. Repair the Bus:

    • To repair the bus, you will need to donate the following items to the Vault:
      • 5 Copper Bars
      • 5 Iron Bars
      • 5 Gold Bars
      • 5 Battery Packs
  3. Travel to the Desert:

    • Once the bus is repaired, head to the bus stop located in Pelican Town. Interact with the bus to travel to Calico Desert.
  4. Accessing the Desert:

    • In Calico Desert, you can find various resources, including cacti, and the Desert Trader, who offers unique items. You can also access the Skull Cavern for mining.

Tips:

  • Make sure to bring food and healing items if you plan to explore the Skull Cavern, as it can be challenging.
  • The Desert is also home to the Oasis shop, where you can buy rare seeds and items.

Recommendation: Consider visiting the Desert on a sunny day, as rain can affect your plans, especially if you're looking to mine or forage.
