TL;DR
Acquiring Desert Warp Totems
The most efficient way to acquire Desert Warp Totems is by trading 3 Omni Geodes at the Desert Trader. This method is recommended because it allows you to save your resources for other uses [1:1]
[2:4]. After a few runs in Skull Cavern, you'll likely have an abundance of Omni Geodes, making this a sustainable option
[1:2].
Returning from the Desert
When you use a Desert Warp Totem, the bus will automatically be there to take you back home [1:5]
[3:1]. However, to maximize your time in the Skull Cavern, it's advisable to carry a Farm Warp Totem with you. This way, you can warp directly home if you're running out of time or are in a critical situation
[1:1]
[3:2].
Maximizing Time in Skull Cavern
To make the most of your time in the Skull Cavern, some players suggest passing out at 2 AM, which results in only losing 10% of your current gold, capped at 1,000G [1:3]
[1:6]. This strategy allows you to spend more time mining without worrying about the trip back home.
Additional Tips for Desert Exploration
For those aiming to reach deeper levels in the Skull Cavern, consider using a combination of bombs, staircases, and food items that boost luck, defense, and speed [4:3]
[4:5]. It's also beneficial to check the fortune teller for a good luck day before heading to the desert
[4:4].
So … I recently got to the desert, and have been happily picking up cactus fruit and stuff. Spent two minutes IRL time in mines and left. Skeered! My question is should I make desert totems? I don’t have much iridium ore to start with, and while I could come to the desert first thing to try mines, how do I get back? Does Pam wait in the desert to drive you back if you didn’t drive with her to get there? Will I need to make farm totems also?
Or just skip that and wait to get the obelisks?
Like others said trade omni geodes for warp totems at the desert trader. After a couple skull cavern runs you'll probaly have more geodes than you'll care to open.
As for going home; I suggest passing out in the cavern at 2am. You maximise time in the cavern if you don't bother traveling home and you'll only lose 1000G.
you can purchase desert warp totems from the Desert Trader for 3 omni geodes.. that’s the easiest way to acquire them in my opinion.
if you do warp to the desert, the bus will automatically be there to take you home. however, to get back home fast and maximize your time in skull cavern I’d recommend to carry a farm warp totem with you. those are easy to craft, you just need honey and a few other simple things.
Why make when you can trade?
The bus is there no matter how you get there.
I feel like this is my own fault. As I tend to play with a bit of tunnel vision and don't stray from my daily routine. But I've started to make a conscious effort to start exploring and get the most out of this game. In the quest for perfection I have stumbled upon so many fun things. Such as.... The treasure totem!! Ummmm this thing is awesome!? Of course when I saw how great it was I made as many as possible and took them where I felt I could get the best treasure. If you want any tips on this particular item ask away!
Picture 1: what I collected from using the totem
Picture 2: location of where I used them (I used the same spot over and over)
that’s how i collected 400 Qi Beans in 10 days
Good idea. I also have 999+ omni geodes and I can get a good amount when I take them in to Clint
I exchanged them with Artifact Troves in the desert trader
YOU'RE A GENIUS.
Lol you are correct. Who else's fault could it be?
Still, better to discover late, than never!
🤣 every time I discover something new and cool I have a little feeling of guilt like "why have I allowed so much time to pass without figuring this out!!"
Yup I feel that. And then a new update comes and another "hidden" thing is revealed. Definitely part of the process and part of the fun for me.
The other option is to watch a ton of guides and study the wiki. Not my preference.
I have played 500 hours and first started in 2017. I might still have things to discover
I wanted all the treasure to myself.
Gone are the days where you hoard the treasures
I WAS NEVER GOING TO SHARE MY SECRET
<3
🤣 darn you
the thing with the treasure totem is that
so the mastery cave would've told you what comes with each mastery, including info about the treasure totem
If I use a warp totem to get to the desert, should I pack a farm totem to get me home or is Pam going to be waiting for me at the desert to take me home?
Thanks!
The bus will be there, but I take a farm totem in case I stay too long or I'm about to pass out. Basically only use it in critical cases.
Lucky you! She's waiting with the bus. But bring a totem anyway, so you can warp straight from the depths of the skull cavern.
I just pack a bunch of stairs and when things get dicey in the depths( too many monsters, low health and need a minute to breath and eat, too late and can’t find a ladder) I go down the ladder I’ve created and then use it to surface.

Actually you drive the bus home yourself.
I figure at 1am, Pam will be smashed and it’d be like Speed
Ka-chow!
-Pam
Okay so I did this last night and I thought you were kidding!
Hahaha told ya
I've gotten to at least 60 but always never have enough time HELP!!
I’ve only managed it without staircases once. I have a “desert trunk” with warp totems, bombs, purple mushrooms, spicy eel, and espresso. On good luck days I grab those items, warp to the desert, and just hope I luck out on some long mine shafts.
Make sure you're strong enough (got a few stardrops under your belt already); take foods that boost your luck, defense, speed, energy restoration & eat 'em before you're down half; wear good booster rings & boots; carry a lot of bombs, some stairs, focus more on getting down than gathering or fighting monsters along the way, go on a v good luck day (save "bad" luck days for racking up fighting points); go earrrly and stay late (warp totems); and ? have fun! If you don't make it this time, you will make it another time.
All that said, it is an accomplishment. When you do make it, and you will, come back and tell us: we know to cheer for you!! If you don't make it, tell us (my iPad crashed just as I read that "Well, well, well" the first time) we know to groan with you in commiseration.
Are ya winning, Child?
Don't care
Are ya having fun?
yeeeeeah!
Me too!
Check with fortune teller that it’s a very good day for luck. Stock up on bombs- more than you think you need, bring plenty of energy drinks and go forth. Don’t waste time smashing unnecessary rocks- find your exit to next level and go. If you have choice of falling through hole, take it.
I do it with about 100-200 bombs, 10-20 stairs, and a full inventory bar of meals. I don’t usually use them all, but it’s better to be overprepared so that you can stay proactive. Bombs help you mine faster, stairs help where the rocks are just too spread out or a dozen serpents harass you at the ladder, and food makes it so you can be more aggressive. Warping to the cavern also saves a few hours, and luck makes a huge difference in how readily the ladders spawn. I once tested max daily luck and a lucky lunch vs min daily luck and no buffs, and it was a difference of about 80 floors.
Get a desert warp totem too. Waiting for the bus wastes a solid 4-5 hours of in game time.
Trade 3 Omni Geodes to the trader in the desert for the warp totem. You should have plenty of Omni Geodes just from doing basic mining.
I have empty garden plots and plots with sticks researched. Nothing is showing up in the garden blueprint table. I've talked to the merchant and need to pay him in veggies. I have the garden certificate in my inventory at the blueprint table cannot do anything with it. I also need to get carrots for the donkey because he is now on strike. If this is a bug is it game breaking? Thanks.
If you interact with the blueprint table, there should be an Option to Claim the Garden as yours. If there isn't, I don't got a clue what one can do.
that one is for apple trees and berry bushes. the one you want is to the right on the other side of the fence
the garden you are looking for is to the right from this garden ^^
O. M. F. G....
I am so stupid
Thank you ever so much
It's okay to be stupid. The first step is accepting who you are.
Have you been playing for a long time? Save and close the game for a snack break, then see if you have the options when you start again
Can't quite tell from the picture but it looks like you're at the orchard which only does fruit trees and Berry bushes, I think you need to fix the blueprint table to the right of that garden, then you can plant carrots in empty garden beds on the other side of the fence
Does anyone know how I can get a higher income of mana orbs? I find it very difficult to achieve, I plant, plant, plant but I think I chose the wrong seed because it seems that I end up with the same amount of mana that I started with 😭😭
Do the mana bundle in the museum. It’ll give you what I mainly use to get orbs. Rarely drop below 1,000 orbs these days with that and the siphon flower going in a barn with Phoenixs
No one has mentioned it yet so, fruit trees! They are amazing passive income, even better if you use machines to turn them into tea (and most teas only require the fruits, with no other ingredients, making it very easy to use!) This is how I make almost all my money, in pretty much all my saves, in every town! Yes you can do all the other activities to boost your income, and I’ll do those too, but a solid fruit tree grove with some of each (or you can just do the most expensive one if you want, as those will be worth the most,) will give you a really good starting base. Most of the trees aren’t expensive either so you can start with one and quickly build your little orchard!
Edit: to find the fruit trees for the two other towns, go to the General Store, talk to the guy behind the counter, and scroll down to the bottom! That’s where they can be found! Nel’vari has 4, >!Withergate!< has 3, and >!Brinestone!< has like… six? Or something? And the ones from there also give mana orbs I believe. (Names are spoilered in case anyone hasn’t gotten that far and doesn’t want to see it!)
Edit to add: this goes for crops and animal products and just about everything in this game (except fish, in certain cases.) Just about anything and everything you grow, will be worth more if you make it into something! There are less options for the other towns (compared to Sun Haven’s crops where most can be used in several different ways,) but there are still good options! The juicers and tea kettle/soda machine are amazing to increase your profits a little for each thing you sell! And some fruits from the trees can be used in cooking or jam making back on your Sun Haven machines, so it’s worth looking into!
seed maker, fertilizer, farming skills, farming hat and flower ring will help
Fishing. Buy the Nel'Vari fishing rod, sit at the Nel'Vari entrance, ignore the weird-ass lag that area has for some reason, eat some really spicy bait, and fish the day away
Plant trees. The fruit trees, like cherries and sugar plums, you can combine with just flour in the oven to make cake and pie respectively. Super simple.
Also, go gather all the fruit and monster drops from the underwater combat zone. Those sell for mana orbs. I’d go back every few days to let them regrow their fruit then repeat.
Once you have a supply of mana orbs, you can invest in some expensive crops then grow them. Use the seed maker to get more seeds. The only thing with that is that some of them require ridiculous amounts of mana so have pots or food ready when you do that. I’m currently growing the dragon fruit and the purple flowers for that (I forgot what they’re called).
I can’t seem to get to level 100 in the skull cavern!
I always go when it’s raining so I’m not wasting any time on the farm.
I get there right when Pam gets to the bus and have a farm totem to allow for plenty of time.
I always bring life elixir, miners treat, oil of garlic, etc.
I bring plenty of bombs and stones to make stairs if needed.
And I have a lava katana and a slime charmer ring.
but I ALWAYS run out of time and even sometimes die. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong!
Use Crystalariums to produce 100 Jade, trade them for Staircases with the Desert Trader on a Sunday, then just Staircase your way down.
Shopping list:
Warp directly to the desert instead of waiting on Pam. Pop a spicy eel and an espresso.
On levels with clusters of rocks, bomb them. On levels with sparse rocks, staircase immediately. Eat salad to heal. Eat more eel and espresso whenever they run out. Avoid fighting as much as possible.
if youve had cows for a while, i think using gold quality cheese for healing is a good option. it does sell for more than what the salad costs, but it heals more and you can have a steady supply from your cows
You are not using desert totem to hit the cavern at 6-7 am. If you wait for Pam, you will waste good 3-4 hrs, and that makes reaching 100th floors much much harder.
Get desert totems. Be there as soon as you finish morning chores, if you have any. The earlier you get started the better. If you warp totem right when you wake up you can be there in by like 630. You only lose 1000 gold for passing out. Super worth to stay until 2 am. Then it's just espresso, spicy eel or rock candy (skip the miner's treat. Spicy eel is king. Pumpkin soup or lucky lunch are decent too), bombs and staircases.
You want to be in the cavern as long as possible. Like, if you can reach floor 100 in 16 hours in the cavern, but you dont get there until 10 am, you've lost 1/4 of your time and only end up reaching floor 75. And 75-100 are going to be the most lucrative so get there early and stay late.
If you bring 3 omni geode to the desert trader you can get a desert totem - then you can teleport to the desert first thing in the morning instead of waiting until 10am for Pam. Those few hours get you pretty far!
You need to either finish the Vault Bundles at the community center, or pay the 40k to Joja if you went that route.
The bus will then be fixed, and you'll be able to take it to the desert when Pam is present, as she is the driver.
Keep your health high at all times. Also, you can make a shit ton of jade in the crystalariums and buy staircases from the desert trader on Sundays to get to the lower floors quicker ;)
Make sure you have food to heal in the skull cavern. Bombs also help a bunch in there
I asked this question the other day and since then i’ve made two successful trips to the skull cavern, with 3 prismatic shards and 70+ iridium ore. Bring cheese, spicy eels, and a buttload of bombs
What I always bring is my Sword, Pickaxe, Hoe, 60ish salmon berries, 2 big health fillers like melons or cactuses, 2 spicy eels, 7 triple espressos, 400 stones, 10 bombs, 1 staircase and 2 health potions.
I always line them up in that order aswell with a gap in the middle between the coffee and the stones, so the sword is 1 and the health potions at the end. This really helps because if im being swarmed or panicking I don't have to search my bar to see where my potions are.
The stones are to enable you to quickly craft staircases, I find you don't collect them quickly enough when you first start going in. Whenever I use a staircase I always craft another one straight away.
When I first started attempting the Skull cavern I always made sure to separate out my health potions just in case I died to lesson the chances of losing all of them.
The reason I bring spicy eels and basic bombs is because the Serpents tend to drop them. I found that when I brought other lucky food that my bag just filled up quicker. AND! I love how fast you can run with Spicy eel and triple expresso at the same time. :D
So yeah, I'm kinda particular with how I work the Skull mines but it's been working really well for me. I find it's a fairly 'doable' setup aswell early on. whatever you don't use at the end, stick in a chest by the entrance for next time. When I first started looking up tips for SC I just found alot of suggestions for 100 staircases and 100 bombs which I just in no way had the money or resources for.
When does the Desert Trader Show up? Is there a certain quest or something I have to complete for her to show up..?
Not sure? I took a bit of a break and went back after 1.4 came out and he was there. I just presumed he'd be there from the start after that, but obviously not.
I unlocked it yesterday and fucking noped out of there just about instantly
The first time I was attacked by one of the serpents (or snap dragons as I call em) was one of the most terrifying moments of my life.
You have to be standing in front of unsafe (shimmered) desert walls. Luck is a stat you can boost so wear and place some items from this list: https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Luck#Influences
Yes
How long it takes
Could be quick, Could take forever. It just depends on your luck and your farms' efficiency. Placing a garden gnome, drinking a luck potion with pearls from oysters from fishing in the desert, and using a galaxy pearl using I think a pink pearl in the shimmer that's rare from a oyster should all boost your base luck.
