TL;DR Currently, you cannot directly gift skins from your inventory in Fortnite. However, you can purchase V-Bucks or gift cards for someone else to buy skins themselves.
Current Gifting System
As of the latest discussions, Fortnite does not allow players to gift skins directly from their inventory to another player's account [1:3],
[5:1]. This limitation means that while you might see options related to gifting in the game settings, the feature is not fully implemented for transferring existing skins between accounts.
Purchasing for Others
The most straightforward way to "gift" a skin is by purchasing it directly from the in-game shop for another player. This involves selecting a skin available in the shop and choosing the option to purchase it as a gift for a friend [4:1]. However, this method only applies to items currently available in the shop and does not allow for trading or gifting items already owned.
Alternative Methods
Since direct skin gifting isn't possible, an alternative is to provide someone with V-Bucks or gift cards. This allows them to purchase skins or other items they desire from the Fortnite store [5:2]. This method is commonly used by YouTubers when they mention giveaways, where they essentially provide the means for winners to acquire skins themselves.
Speculations and Future Updates
There have been rumors and speculations about the potential for a more comprehensive gifting system in future updates. Some players hope for a system that allows for trading or gifting from personal inventories, but concerns about scams and business implications make this unlikely [4:3],
[4:5]. Epic Games has not confirmed any such features, so players should remain cautious about unofficial announcements or clickbait content claiming otherwise
[3:1],
[5:6].
In summary, while direct skin gifting is not yet available, purchasing V-Bucks or using the in-game gift purchase option are viable alternatives for sharing Fortnite items with others.
how do i gift skins?! i need to know
u dont
oh? when will gifting be made possible?
We don’t know
You carnt
Please tell me.
It’s not a thing yet
why tf did epic add an option labeled "accept gifts" then?!
So they can realise gifts in another update? Why tf else?
They just added an option but it’s not an feature yet, but hopefully it’s coming soon.
Not a thing yet but probably will be in season 5
We don’t know if we can even send skins to others. So only Epic knows.
I was up at 4am with my newborn, so I was reading the patch notes while my game updated, and I could swear I saw something about item/skin gifting in there... Gone this morning.
I see the setting in-game that allows you to receive gifts, but can't figure out how to send. Everything I can find online is just click bait.
What's up with gifting, and when will it hit?
Nobody knows anything about gifting but epic. It might not even get released.
As we know nothing is confirmed, but there is a lot of aspects we have to look at.
Recently I got into an argument with people saying gifting will be something where you can gift skins and items from your inventory. Now as cool as that would be, personally, I don’t think this is what this means.
Gifting means to give, not to expect something in return.
Why would Epic make a system where people could open up shops to buy and sell skins when they currently frown upon buying and selling Accounts?
I think they would lose out in money when people with v-buck glitches (there are some trust me, I follow a few people on IG who sell these methods) could just give people skins for (basically) free.
I could be 100% wrong, but looking at what we know so far, this is what it seems like to me.
Let me know your opinions! I am expecting a lot of downvotes and hate but I would love to hear what you guys think!
i wish it would be from inventory because my brother and i switched accounts and he now has all my OG skins and i’d like to trade them to my account :(
gifting has been confirmed, it’s just we dont know what it is rn
I know it has and understand that as I said above I’m my post. But this thread was made for what I think it will be
Oh, my bad. I think that you will only be able to buy skins from the shop and give them to other people. I doubt they would make it easier for people to sell skins
I agree, it wouldn't be a smart "business move" by the company. Also alot of trading would occur and scams.
Thank you for agreeing!
Fuck off
Alright :) can I ask your opinions on my thoughts to make you express this anger?
Please ignore him. What a douche. There are a lot of people on Reddit that specifically refresh the “new” section just to hate before a post gets popular.
Gifting only means 1 thing.
[SKIN A] appears in shop, you click on [SKIN A] and then you have :
Purchase for yourself | Purchase for a friend .
I HIGHLY doubt it'll be something else.
As much as that sucks for me at least, you are probably 100% correct.
EXACTLY that EXACTLY what I’m telling these people and they call me dumb
I recently got my g/f into this game and we play side by side, and she really wants one of the battle pass skins that I got. I don't use it and I want to give it to her w/o her having to buy the whole battle pass.
Is there anyway to do this?
There is currently no way to transfer skins, however, you can buy gift cards or microsoft gifts of V-bucks so that people can buy skins with said V-bucks. This is what YouTubers mean.
you can’t trade skins- sorry. you could wait for s6 and buy her the bp though, with a gift card.
You can’t give skins to anyone.
aw rats. thank you
It's a scam
It’s clickbait

Hello reddit. So my boyfriend tried to surprise me by gifting me a skin last night and not telling me so that i’d see it the next time I opened fortnite and because you have to close fortnite and reopen it to get the whole gift box thing, I didn’t know that I was gifted this skin so I proceeded to buy the skin for myself in the shop. What will happen now? He technically gifted me the skin before i bought it, so will he get his vbucks back? Or… What exactly happens now? When I opened fortnite today there wasn’t a gift or anything and it didn’t say that I owned the skin, he bought me. The shop fully allowed me to buy it so I’m assuming that means my boyfriend’s gift to me didn’t go through yet??
From what I’ve read by epic. It says the the gift should fail and he would be reimbursed. And if not he should contact epic. But my advice would be for you to return to the item shop and cancel your purchase. Just click on the skin your talking about and if it’s been within 24hours you should have the option to cancel purchase and the v-bucks will return in your account immediately (ever since the last update you’ve been able to cancel purchase)
Hmm, I don't think it's true that you need to fully close and reopen Fortnite in order to receive a gift. I've definitely gotten them before after playing a match when I returned back to the lobby.
well on my ps4 that’s the only way I can receive gifts. my bf sent me two gifts last night. i didn’t get one of them until today which is when i reopened my fortnite. it’s always been like that for us. if you send someone a gift, they have to close fortnite and reopen it to receive it with the gift box

I wish epic would let us give/ trade our skins to our close friends. I have so many skins I don’t use or dislike that I know my brother would use! I see the legal issues of how I can easily be hacked and giving away skins but if Epic only allows it to closer friends it’s been your friend for. Let’s say over 100 days or some requirement that would help cut down on hacking or anything of the sort.
Yeah bro! I told my nephews they can have 90% of my locker. Or get some XP for trades once a month or being a crew member
This would be awesome. Like you said being friends for 100 days or more or you played x games together aswell.. Like being friends for 100 days and played together 15 times or something like that
Would be an idea, but definitely won't happen cuz a black market would emerge immediately
It's more of an epic issue with money
They don’t want people selling skins. So it wouldn’t happen.
Hi guys n gals... can you gift fortress skins in game to someone else???
Yes you can, only if it is a permanent fortress skin. I have gifted people in my alliance in the past fortress skins I earned as a reward for those who had exceeded goals/objectives that needed to be met (I.e. person who donates the most zone passes for an alliance transfer, members who went above and beyond in performance within the alliance, etc.)
If you don't mind, can you please explain the steps, if the item is in your items menu, how to gift them? I am still having a hard time getting the item to send 😕.
Do you have to be a R5??
You do not, R5 is not required. You don’t need to be in an alliance either
