Repairing a Baggu bag, especially if it has a slash or busted seams, can be approached in several ways depending on the severity of the damage and your skill level. Here are some methods and tips gathered from various discussions:
Hand Sewing and Visible Mending
For minor slashes or tears, hand sewing can be an effective solution. Using a thread that closely matches the color of the bag can help the repair blend in [1:3]. If you're interested in adding a decorative touch, visible mending techniques can be employed. This involves using colorful threads and creative stitching patterns to not only repair but also enhance the aesthetic of the bag
[5:1]
[2:2].
Patch Kits and Reinforcement
For more durable repairs, especially in high-stress areas, consider using patch kits. Nylon jacket repair stickers or Tenacious Tape, which can be found at camping or gear shops, are recommended for their durability and flexibility [3:1]
[3:3]. Additionally, reinforcing the inside of the bag with iron-on or glued fabric can help prevent further tearing
[2:1].
Seam Repairs
If the seams are coming undone, careful stitching is necessary. A blanket stitch or binding stitch can be used to secure the edges and prevent further fraying [5:3]. Keeping loose threads intact during the repair process can help maintain the integrity of the original weave
[2:1].
Creative Solutions and Resources
For those new to mending, exploring resources like the r/visiblemending subreddit can provide inspiration and guidance [1:2]
[2:3]. Engaging with communities focused on mending can offer support and innovative ideas for tackling repair projects.
In summary, repairing a Baggu bag can range from simple hand-sewn fixes to more complex reinforcement techniques. The choice of method will depend on the type of damage and personal preference for visibility and style.
Hey everyone! I’m wondering if anyone has been able to repair a slash on their baggu! I found a slash on the bottom of my cloud bag and I really love this color to throw away. Any suggestions on how to fix it 😭
Try r/visiblemending!! I’ve repaired clothing with techniques I’ve learned there but I’ve never tried on this kind of fabric.
Just posted on there thank you
I bought a tomato scb with a rip in it. I took it to hobby lobby and tried to find the thread with the closest color match. I’m not great at sewing, but having the color match helps it blend in.
Just curious if it arrived like this? If so UO should replace it.
It did not plus I bought it from a small store

Did you ever find a fix to this? Going through the same thing with my cloud carry on 💔
I ended up hand sewing it and it been holding up so far but I’m scared it might break again
I’m sure I could do a mediocre quick stitch to patch up these seams but wanted to jump on here and ask if anyone knows of a mending technique that would work well for the repair. The seam is coming undone on both sides on the bottom of the bag. I love this bag, I just want her to thrive again!
r/Visiblemending they got cool ideas.

Tough one. This is a very durable bag with good material and looks like good technique to assemble it. Anything you do will likely be stressed at the seams.
I'd recommend that you look into either iron on or glued on fabric reinforcement for once you actually mend it, something to seal the inside and keep it from ripping.
You are going to lose some shape and geometry. I might not trim any of the loose threads until you are done. Because of the weave, some of it will unravel as you repair if you don't keep those loose ends in place.
Plan on sewing by hand, and plan on using thimbles, or even pliers. You may want to use carpet and upholstery thread, and a packet of needles made for that. Usually it will be with Notions, and include big crewel type needles and curved needles and several other types. The temptation will be to sew as close to the fray as possible, but that just is too much stress on too little fabric.
Fold the fray in a tiny bit. Your stitches need to be a couple of wefts or cross threads, and you really need to kind of stagger them so you sew past maybe the third weft and then through the second one and then past the third again. You can pierce both warp and weft as well. This makes it less likely to pull apart. You will probably be using pins or basting threads to hold the parts together. Corners need to be sewn, and any area that receives a lot of stress needs double stitching.
Use your thimble, or maybe needle nose pliers to push and pull the needle where you want it. Be careful not to snap the needle, because you won't find the flying piece until you step on it maybe weeks later. Once you've got it all sewn together, use the reinforcing fabric. Could be denim or canvas or duck, If you can manage iron on, sometimes the patches are for work clothes and may be a work weight gabardine. Iron it down, or glue it down.
I used to patch my Levis back when I did a lot of back yard gymnastics. Lots of broken zippers, ripped crotches, blown inseams.
Wow thank you so much, this is so helpful!
You need to get a couple of villagers, some beds and a farm

I got nylon jacket repair stickers on AliExpress, they’re elastic little stickers for rips on fabrics like your bag, or a puffer jacket for example
Yes - if you want to buy something like this in person, a store that sells camping stuff will have these patch kits.

Hello,
I am a complete novice in terms of leather repair or leatherwork, but I have this beautiful leather purse and the strap broke.
I was looking for advice on how to best mend the attachment point. I am okay if it doesn’t look like “new”, mostly concerned with weight capacity without just breaking again.
I was going to just sew it but then thought.. I have no idea what I’m doing…
Please let me know what you think.
Either a new strap OR
You could get some veg tanned leather (about 4oz thick) and stitch it to the strap to create a new end. It would look at bit thicker in this areas, because you've added a new piece of leather. The other thing is that the original starp has a coated edge (acrylic). If you want the new piece of leather to have that, then you'll have to find acrylic that is close in color... but, if you want to do this, then I'd recommend peeling off the portions that are cracked and reapplying it all.. FYI, this is a skill and takes time to master to have a nice smooth acrylic edge...
Another idea if you don't want to buy leather and stitch, etc... buy a set of metal eyelet grommets and a setter. Cut off the damaged edges, punch a hold in the end of strap ends, install metal grommet. Then use another metal attachment (like a shackle with a screw pin) to attach to the bag.

Wow, thank you so much for in depth advice! I would have never thought of the grommet idea, definitely something I will consider.
Glad I have consensus overall on the repair front, I think it is well beyond my current desires and ability.
I would think you will need to fashion a new strap to fix that properly.
Oh wow, that is a little more work than I was prepared for. Thank you for the advice, I’ll shelve this project for now.
its really not much work. just cut a long piece of leather and stitch it over the existing loops. its easy to think a project is big and complex when you havent done it before...you could even size it with paper taped into the shape and length then when you have the length you like, just go buy a leather bag from thrift store for a few bucks and adjust the exiting strap to fit your paper template
1 Cut it square, 2 Skive it down, 3 Fold it over the ring with glue to make the next steps easier 4 Punch stitching holes 5 Sew the strap 6 Edge paint as needed
Buy a replacement strap.
Ah! That’s a good idea, thank you.
Sorry to be blunt 😅 you’d lose so much length cutting the affected area, then folding and attaching new hardware. I’m not convinced it’s leather, either. Best bet is to buy a whole new strap. You can get them with the hardware attached or thrift a bag with a detachable strap that works with this bag.
Do you have any pics of the purse itself? Looks cool and we'd love to see it if you have time
first three pictures are of the outside of the bag and the last four are of the inside.
i’ve lugged this bag around multiple countries and other than the holes, it’s in tip-top condition! some of the holes are in high-stress areas so it’s got me thinking that darning might not be enough. any advice for how i should mend this and what materials i could use? mending’s something i’ve never done before, so any advice would be absolutely appreciated!
What a wonderful bag, bet it has stories! 🖖
That’s a big project! I’ll tell you what I would do.
First, trim all the scraggly stringy bits off so the holes and rips are clean. Patch any holes larger than about a dime. Make sure the fabric is a little larger than the hole. You could use an iron on patch. Then stitch over the hole and patched area to sort of fuse them together.
For the fraying that’s on the seams/edges, I’d use a blanket stitch or other binding stitch so they don’t fray again.
Patches are always great but if you really wanna you can try weaving it back together in some sections with funky embroidery thread
I see so much potential for some lovely rainbow stitching!! Someone just posted some colorful rectangle-y mending (sorry, don't know how to describe) on a jeans back pocket today and i think that would look really cool here
My cat damaged my brand new bag. It’s nylon/polyurethane, so I’m guessing a patch or studs to cover the holes is my only repair option?
It looks woven so you could darn it with nylon or polyester thread, but a patch (or patch with studs) and maybe some embroidery over the patch/darn would probably work best.
Hi all, I’m looking for suggestions on how to mend the area near the bag closure. This is a repost with a better picture. There’s a small hole around one side of the closure and another small hole right nearby. It’s an awkward space to work in, so any advice would be appreciated. Material is corduroy.
The best bet is going to be to unpick enough seams to be able to get to the backside of the closure. That will let you unfold the tabs that are holding in on, and you can take it off. Then, you can patch the flat piece of fabric that the closure was attached to. Finally, reattach the closure and reassemble.
Alternatively, you could add a patch on the outside, behind the closure, without disassembling anything. But, it is tough to sew close enough to it to support the fabric the closure is actually attached to, so while the fabric will be supported, the closure itself will still be lose and likely to fall off eventually.
Thank you so much for this advice!
Seconding Willow’s advice. I will add that anything you can do to beef up the fabric the snap is attached to will make a longer lasting repair. An iron on patch would be good, really sturdy fabric like denim would also be good. The fabric it’s currently in is very weakened, so you want something strong to take the load of the snap
Without cutting and restitching the leather?
My first thought was getting a new clip and a large split ring.
Remove the rivet and replace the clasp. Secure it with a new rivet.
I'd be tempted to just turn the bag inside out and re-stitch the seam through the lining. It would save all the work involved in getting behind the lining and it wouldn't be very noticeable once done. Removing the binding at the top is easy. Putting it back neatly is not.
Thought about this way - concerned with reducing waterproof ness as internal bag acts as a dry bag. By stitching though water could pass through?
You could seam seal the stitching on the inside
A bag I use on my bike has split at the seam, it is lined, I’m thinking the best way to repair this is to unpick a section of the binding at the top of the bag and allow me to get access to make the repair on the machine. Any thoughts comments / different approaches appreciated.
Alternatively you could hand sew it from the outside. Use slip stitch if you want, or just sew it and get back outside again 😊
I was unsure if my hand stitching would be as strong. 🤷♂️ I do want to get back out though.
Flip it inside out, reset the seam and pick the thread from near the end of the seam. Also, remember to backtac at the start and the end.
Lastly, go back and forth on that stressed area that popped a couple times.
The seem sealing is probably your best bet to retain its waterproof, unless you like heavily involved projects. As was stated, imo, the only other option is to disassemble a good chunk of the bag to get access to the damaged seem. It can certainly be done, but it's gonna take some time.
Thanks, your all right. Keep it simple stupid - is a motto I fall back to!! Less destruction and a bit of Seam sealer. Seems solid plan.
How cute is this. You email info@baggu.com with the sizes of your pouch replacements and your address, and they seriously mail you them in a handwritten envelope and pay for the shipping and everything. I just took random colors since mine were all discontinued from a decade ago but apparently you can ask for specific replacements. When I emailed, they told me they send these out once a week.
Yep I've done this twice now! My Gudetama baby reusable now lives inside a Lemon Tree pouch 🍳🍋
Omg!! Ive been missing the pouch for my baby strawberry/banana one for SO long!! Thank u for the info, I’m gonna try my luck 🤩
Only to the US though sadly! I requested one to be sent to Canada and they wouldn’t.
Perhaps you need a US pen pal to help you out with that! gestures broadly in our direction
I’m happy to help if needed 😃
Nooooooo 😭
Thanks for this!! My keroppi standard bag is missing a pouch so I just emailed them :)
they gave me the yellow smiley cover for my keroppi lol
I got the same one when I told them I lost my keroppi pouch!!
I wouldn’t mind that!! I wonder what they’ll send lol
Just learned about this and requested one yesterday! They respond so politely and fast, 10/10 customer service experience :)
