How to Sync Outlook Calendar with iCloud

TL;DR

  • Use iCloud for Windows and enable calendar sync.
  • Share your Outlook calendar as an ICS file and subscribe to it in iCloud.
  • Ensure proper configuration of add-ins and account settings.

Using iCloud for Windows

One effective method to sync your Outlook calendar with iCloud is by using iCloud for Windows. By installing iCloud for Windows, you can select the option to sync calendars, which adds an add-on to Outlook [1:2]. This allows you to use the iCloud calendar within Outlook, ensuring automatic synchronization between the two platforms. Make sure to download iCloud for Windows directly from Apple's website rather than the Microsoft Store to avoid compatibility issues [1:8].

Sharing Outlook Calendar as ICS

Another approach is to share your Outlook calendar as an ICS file. You can then add this file as a subscription in your iCloud calendar [1:1]. When you subscribe to the ICS link rather than downloading the file, updates occur automatically [1:9]. This method ensures that any changes made in your Outlook calendar are reflected in your iCloud calendar without manual intervention.

Configuration and Troubleshooting

Ensure that your Outlook add-ins are correctly configured, as they might get disabled unexpectedly, preventing synchronization [1:5]. If you're using Outlook on macOS, additional steps may be required, such as creating an app-specific password for your iCloud account [3:4]. For users facing issues with syncing on mobile devices, resetting the account or removing and re-adding it might help resolve persistent problems [5:1][5:2].

Alternative Solutions

If these methods do not work, consider using third-party applications like OneCal to facilitate synchronization between iCloud and Outlook [3:2]. Additionally, ensure that your email policies allow the use of necessary applications and configurations to maintain seamless integration [5:4].

How to sync FROM Outlook calendar TO iCloud Calendar

ORIGINAL POST

I have read a ton of articles which describes how to sync iCloud calendar with Outlook. However, this is NOT what I need. I primarily use Outlook for work and all my calendar events are stored there. I want to sync FROM Outlook to iCloud. I know I could add an Exchange account, but my company no longer allows Active Sync. I now have to use the Outlook app instead. Is there any way to do this sync automatically?

I guess I could try to find a way to export from Outlook and then import into iCloud but that is just cumbersome and not efficient at all. I would prefer it to be seamless.

Are you on Windows? Because then just install iCloud for Windows and select Calendar sync. It will add and add-on to Outlook. Then install your icloud account on Outlook. Now use the calendars that come with this account as your main calendar and they will automatically sync.

I guess adding the iCloud account to the Outlook app on iOS will have the same result, but I have never used this

I have icloud for windows installed and added my icloud account to outlook as well. From what I can tell, it only reads the icloud calendar but doesn't sync with between them. Driving me nuts. Can't believe no one else has this problem lol

So you can see your calendar entries in Outlook? Thats’s something. Maybe check your add-in settings. Outlook often disables the iCloud add-in when something unexpected happens. You can check by selecting something like the Disabbled tab in add-ins under settings.

Btw make sure you use the iCloud for Windows download from Apples website, not the app in the MS store

If you share the calendar as a ics in outlook 365 you can add it as a subscription in iCloud and it will update

Finally got a chance to try and figure this out. I think i found the link for my work calendar in outlook. However, when I go to icloud.com calendar, I can only share those calendar to someone. There is no option to subscribe to an external calendar. Where is the option to do this?

hellacott · 3 years ago

I don’t know about iCloud.com but on the iOS or macOS calendar apps it’s the “add calendar” button, then subscription

Thank you. I will research how to do this. I had thought sharing ics required manual updates as well.

1 upvotes on reddit
hellacott · 3 years ago

When you do it it gives you an ics link. If you download the ics file it will not update, but if you add it as a subscription in your calendar app and paste the ics link it will update

I sync my iCloud and outlook calendars by simply adding my iCloud account to the outlook client in Windows and ios. Works fine. Are you running outlook on an ios device?

I’m using my iPhone and wanting to use the Outlook app but use my iCloud calendars. The problem is that I am using a Hotmail email as my Apple ID email. So how do I make this work if it recognizes my email as a Hotmail email (obviously) instead of my Apple account?

1 upvotes on reddit
G
gripe_and_complain · 4 months ago

It's been a while, but I believe you can login to your iCloud account from a browser and create an app password to use with the Outlook client.

After you have the app password, Open New Outlook and go to settings > accounts > add account > and enter your Hotmail address. Then see if you can find the "Advanced Setup" button and click on it to tell Outlook you are adding an iCloud account. From there you should be able to enter the app password to setup the account.

If this doesn't work, you may have to change your Apple ID username on the iCloud account to an actual iCloud address.

iCloud Calendar failing to sync in mobile app

Posted by Jacklon17 · in r/Outlook · 3 years ago

As the title states I have a VIP at work who’s iCloud calendar refuses to consistently connect to the mobile Outlook app on iOS.

There isn’t anything helpful on the knowledge base for either iCloud or Outlook short of just resetting the sync or removing the account and putting it back in which we have tried multiple times.

Anyone have any idea of how to resolve this issue?

Same thing for me. The sync feature is broken somewhere. Not sure if it’s iCloud or Outlook iOS app causing it.

Anyway, it got pointless in the end and I removed the account and went back to the native apps. Would have been nice to have everything in one app such as Outlook.

I have to get it to work somehow as our email policy doesn’t let people use the Apple apps for this purpose anymore.

Any update on this? My iCloud calendars stopped syncing this week and it's just totally broken. Outlook's support has been USELESS. My org blocks access to stock calendar app so this is my only chance to see work and personal calendars together.

Unable to sync calendar

That’s not how Microsoft does tasks. If you use Planner, you can subscribe to a plan as a calendar and view them that way, but it doesn’t integrate with Outlook.

Add your Microsoft account to your iPhone, then the calendar will appear there. And any tasks, will appear in your Reminders app!

In iOS 18, you will be able to see both Reminders and Events in the calendar, and move reminders to a time in the calendar. So look out for that!

Question: how to perma sync Outlook Calendar to Icloud?

Posted by Zastiel · in r/iCloud · 4 years ago

Hi there,

I‘m trying to get my Outlook Client (Win10 Desktop App) to permanently sync with Icloud. All software is up to date and troubleshooting/research got me as far to logout from the icloud Desktop app and login again to work somewhat reliable - but only once. Any calendar change after the initial login is no longer updated over to icloud. And it feels totally useless right now.

Has anyone managed to overcome this? Thanks.

Check the COM plug-ins in your Outlook client. Deep down under settings.

But in general, Outlook and iCloud for Windows can be a bit hit or miss. You should get a new icon in the menu bar, allowing you to force sync.

1 upvotes on reddit
Zastiel · OP · 4 years ago

Thanks, this did help - Icloud sync was disabled for slowing down the Outlook start. Now it's only down to having a local calendar that is linked to my imap account which doesn't automatically sync. But copying over appointments to an icloud calendar than works. Somewhat manageable workaround.

1 upvotes on reddit

Wellcraft19 · 4 years ago

Good. glad it helped.
But local calendar does per definition not sync. It just resides in a (local) pst file on your PC. You need to put items in you iCloud calendar. Think of it is the items actually "live" in the cloud and each app/client only pulls down from there (or pushes up).

If you want to move a ton of items, change the view so you can see all items in a list (think layout a la "excel") and it then allows to easily copy or move all events over.

iCloud Calendar Add-In for New Outlook (windows)

Hey everyone,

Has anyone moved to the new Outlook AND been able to maintain the link with the iOS/iCloud calendar synchronising from their iPhone?

It works fine in the old version but disappears when I switch to the new version. I cannot see anyone posting on the line with the same issue.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Update - I switched back to standard Outlook and reported the issues. During that process there was an auto-response from MS saying that calendar sync from iCloud is a know issue and will be fixed in future updates. Looks like I’ll be staying with the standard until that time.

Looking more closely, I see that syncing with iCloud does appear to work in both directions if I designate my iCloud account as the default account in Outlook.

Changes made to the calendar with Outlook appear almost immediately in iCloud but when going the other direction, (making changes in iCloud) it can take as much as 20 minutes for those iCloud changes to show up in Outlook.

Contacts (People) doesn't sync at all with New Outlook. It still syncs fine with iCloud when using the old Microsoft Mail/People app.

How to sync outlook calendar with icloud

Here are the key steps to sync your Outlook calendar with iCloud:

  1. Install iCloud for Windows:

    • Download and install the iCloud for Windows application from the Apple website.
  2. Sign in to iCloud:

    • Open iCloud for Windows and sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. Select Calendar Sync:

    • In the iCloud application, check the box next to "Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks" to enable calendar syncing.
  4. Open Outlook:

    • Launch Microsoft Outlook. You should see your iCloud calendar appear in the calendar section.
  5. Syncing:

    • Changes made in your Outlook calendar will sync to your iCloud calendar and vice versa. Ensure that both applications are open for the sync to occur.

Important Notes:

  • Internet Connection: Ensure you have a stable internet connection for syncing.
  • Updates: Keep both iCloud for Windows and Outlook updated to avoid compatibility issues.
  • Limitations: Note that some features may not sync perfectly (like certain event types or reminders).

Recommendation: If you frequently switch between devices, consider using the iCloud web interface for calendar access, as it provides a seamless experience across all platforms. This way, you can manage your calendar without relying solely on Outlook.
