TL;DR
To unlock the desert, you need to repair the bus by completing either the Vault Bundles at the Community Center or paying 40,000g to JojaMart [1:1].
Repairing the Bus
The primary requirement for unlocking access to the desert in Stardew Valley is repairing the bus. This can be done in two ways: by completing the Vault Bundles at the Community Center or by purchasing the bus repair from JojaMart for 40,000g [1:1]. Once repaired, Pam will drive the bus to the desert when she is present.
Preparation for the Desert
Before heading to the desert, ensure you are adequately prepared. Players often recommend having the key to Skull Cavern and being equipped with items like spicy eel and coffee for speed boosts [2:2]. It's also beneficial to have a strong weapon, such as the Galaxy Sword, which can be obtained by placing a Prismatic Shard between the three pillars in the desert
[4:4].
Unlocking Skull Cavern
Once in the desert, you can access Skull Cavern using the Skull Key. This key is found in the chest on level 120 of the regular mines [3:1]. Skull Cavern presents more challenges than the standard mines, so preparation is crucial. Consider crafting staircases with stone to quickly descend levels and bring plenty of food for health recovery
[4:3].
Additional Tips for Desert Exploration
For successful exploration of the desert mines, players suggest waiting for a lucky day (check the TV for luck forecasts), using Pumpkin Soup for defense and luck boosts, and carrying bombs to clear rocks and find ladders [4:3]. The Iridium Band is also recommended for its benefits
[4:3]. Additionally, acquiring the Lava Katana from the Adventurer's Guild can be helpful for combat in Skull Cavern
[4:7].
You need to either finish the Vault Bundles at the community center, or pay the 40k to Joja if you went that route.
The bus will then be fixed, and you'll be able to take it to the desert when Pam is present, as she is the driver.
i just got the key to skull cavern, so i was wondering if i should now unlock the desert
Yes, if you’re prepared enough
I'm pretty sure i am
Good. Remember the spicy eel and coffee combo
Now how do I unlock skull cavern?
Complete the mines by going down o lvl 120 and you will find a chest with the Skull key and you can use the skull key to unlock skull cavern
Thank you!!
I’m sure this has been asked 100 times before because it’s so difficult, but how the HECK am I supposed to get through the desert mine? I fainted level 1, used bombs, but it doesn’t kill the monsters so they still attack me and I “die”. I’ve heard about stairs but I have no idea how to go about making/using them. I don’t even know if it’s worth it for me to go, I only went because I need iridium to upgrade my tools. I’ve gone through the lower levels of the regular mine a couple times and processed my geodes, but I’ve only gotten 2 iridium ores. Please help! I encourage spoilers lol
Personal method :
I’ve read about the galaxy sword and lucky charm but I have no idea how to get those. I have heard a lot about checking the tv to ensure you’re having a lucky day. I checked the desert trader and he didn’t have that option for me yet :/
SPOILERS! Galaxy sword-- Get a prismatic shard and place it in the middle of the 3 towers in the desert. Lucky charm. If you have secret note 20 walk to the Joja truck and he will ask for something. Give it to him and you have increased luck forever!
Oopps sorry. I forgot to tell you that the Staircases for Jade is on Sundays only.
For the lucky charm, do you have the secret note #20?
I’m wondering how to actually go to the desert mines! It just says “locked” for me. But you can craft stairs with 99stone if you have unlocked it
Have you gone to level 120 in the regular mines?
Yeah I’ve finished the regular mines
I would answer but I know it’s a spoiler and I have no idea how to do that black box thing lol I can send you a message and tell you if you’d like?
PLEASE. I’ll love you forever
Do you have the Lava Katana?
No not yet I’m doing that right after my last barn upgrade
You gotta get Lava Katana if you want to attempt Skull Cavern.
Bombs are gonna do jack crap to enemies, they don’t deal anywhere near enough damage, but they are useful. I always use bombs to blow up areas with a lot of rocks, to better my chance of getting a ladder or shaft. A shaft looks like a hole and you’ll get a prompt of basically “jump down or not”. Always jump down. It will skip some levels for you.
Bring LOTS of food with you. I’m talking like 50 purple mushrooms, or 100 Large Milks, or whatever you can use really. Even better if you can get a bunch of lucky meals, like Spicy Eel or Lucky Lunch. You’ll get a bunch of Spicy Eel once you start killing a lot of serpents. I like to use only lucky foods because using any other foods with buffers will cancel out your previous one.
Always go on a Lucky Day. Don’t attempt to go on a bad luck day. It would also be a good idea to get the Desert Warp Totem recipe so you can just go right away. Also crafting Farm Warp Totems is helpful so you can stay in Skull Cavern as long as possible.
Craft a bunch of staircases. All you need is stone to make them. Don’t bring any tools but your pickaxe and weapon, leave the rest in a chest.
Finally, when you find a Prismatic Shard, DO NOT DONATE IT!
If you have other questions feel free to ask :)
Hi guys! I’m in year five of stardew. I’ve collected all the stuff for the community center, I’ve completed the volcano mines, I’m married and have expanded my house. I keep getting stuck in boring spots. Does anyone know anything I could do to keep the ball rolling. I love this game so much, I just don’t want to spend all my time in the desert mines!
Have you completed all the mastery skills and collected the rewards?
Bought all the obliesk and golden clock?
Are you going for perfection?
I have one of the mastery skills and working on the next. I don’t have any of those and I do have perfection. That’s a good idea!
There's grandpa's statue of perfection and there's perfection as 100% completing the Game. Qi has a tracker in his walnut room. You still have quite a bit you can work towards.
whenever I get bored I just start fishing
Beat Journey of the Prairie King
decorate your farm and house if u havent already, complete the mastery skills, maybe try and collect all the hats? set a personal challenge thats both fun and a bit time consuming so you have something to look forward to when you log into the game :)
I’ve been playing Stardew for a long time and noticed this area behind the shop, at first I really thought I unlocked something new. It seems like the perfect spot to add some secret cave or something
You don't know?
>!ha ha made you look!<
I have 40,000 dream light should I unlock biomes or realms
Definitely biomes.
Start with biomes...all have resources or valuable crops that are important to gameplay. Realms can wait.
EDIT: new code! 820273
Hello all! My valley is open for anyone who wants to come join, take what you need/want! Its half designed but its still got all the resources ☺️ All I ask that if possible, you leave a black passion lily if you can (thanks wall-e for the longest quest ever 🤣 and anyone is welcome with or without the flower)
Still open? How many passion lilies do you need?
yes! i’ll make a new code because i closed to mess around in the frosted heights 🤣 and just two but if you don’t have them, come anyway! the code is: 820273 x
Dropped the passion lilies next to Wall-E’s house
I have them! I’ll grab them and come by 🙂
Have been on the same cactus hunt before and yes if I don't get it offered by a wandering trader I usually look for and igloo. It really irks me that you cannot mix blue and yellow to make green. Like even my 5 year old tells me it should be the case.
You've barely looked. Try going away from the snow biome. Biomes are coded to that hot biomes are close together (as well as wet vs dry). You want hot and dry to find deserts and mesas and savannahs.
Use chunkbase to find a desert
You were almost there. I think you turned around right before you reached it.
There is a cactus in a pot that spawns in the secret labs under igloos. Look for igloos.
