Complete the mines by going down o lvl 120 and you will find a chest with the Skull key and you can use the skull key to unlock skull cavern

Personal method :

• Get the galaxy sword
• Get the special charm
• Wait for a lucky day
• Have Combat skill at 10
• Use Pumpkin Soup for +2 DEF and +2 LUCK
• Use Oil Of Garlic. This makes Serpent attacks less frequent, Infested floors less frequent and prevents the fog of doom.
• Staircases. You can trade Jade for staircases with the Desert Trader
• Iridium Band if you can have it.
• Bombs to dig and find holes. Use them on large groups of rocks to increase the chance of finding a ladder/hole.
• Have a cheap food in large quantities. I use Hops.
• Gold Pickaxe.

I’m wondering how to actually go to the desert mines! It just says “locked” for me. But you can craft stairs with 99stone if you have unlocked it

Have been on the same cactus hunt before and yes if I don't get it offered by a wandering trader I usually look for and igloo. It really irks me that you cannot mix blue and yellow to make green. Like even my 5 year old tells me it should be the case.

You've barely looked. Try going away from the snow biome. Biomes are coded to that hot biomes are close together (as well as wet vs dry). You want hot and dry to find deserts and mesas and savannahs.

There is a cactus in a pot that spawns in the secret labs under igloos. Look for igloos.
