TL;DR Weapons in Cuphead are unlocked by purchasing them from the shop using coins collected throughout the game. New weapons and charms become available as you buy existing items.
Accessing the DLC
You can access the Cuphead DLC without having completed the base game or defeating the final boss [2:1]. The DLC is accessible from the start, similar to a separate island
[2:4]. However, you need to purchase the DLC to access its content
[2:5].
Weapon Unlocking Order
In Cuphead, the shop offers five items at a time. When you purchase an item, it is replaced with another. The order for unlocking weapons starts with Lobber followed by Charge [3:1]. This sequential unlocking allows players to gradually expand their arsenal as they progress through the game.
Upgrading Weapons
While some users have asked about upgrading weapons [4:1], Cuphead does not feature weapon upgrades in the traditional sense. Instead, players can switch between different weapons and charms to suit their play style and the challenges presented by various bosses.
Gameplay Mechanics
Cuphead features unique gameplay mechanics where characters use "magic guns" rather than traditional firearms [5:3]. These magic guns do not require ammo, allowing players to fire continuously during battles
[5:2]. The game's whimsical design includes elements like planes with bombs and finger guns, contributing to its distinctive aesthetic
[5:1]
[5:7].
For those looking to enhance their gameplay experience, exploring different combinations of weapons and charms can provide strategic advantages against challenging bosses.
I wanted to know if, like in DOOM ETERNAL, every weapon etc is unlocked whenever you enter the DLC, or if you have to play the base game first to get them and use em later in the DLC
You can enter the dlc any time you want but u need to buy the weapons
Hello, when and how can i unlock the dlc, is it available onky after the final boss? Or just from the start like a separate island?
Beat ribby and croaks and it’s by the first colosseum
When you are on the island 3 map you will get a notification of what to do. Edit
You dont need to have beat the final boss to access it..
I didn't know now. I figured you did because the characters reference you taking on the devil.
Have you paid?
Pirate arrrrrrr
no clue
The shop only has 5 available items to but at a time, when you buy one, it is replaced with another. What's the order?
Lobber -> Charge for weapons
P. Sugar -> Coffee -> Whetstone -> Twin Heart for charms.
Thank you
how do you upgrade weapons?
Dude your fingers ARE guns in this game why do you question an actual gun
That is magic gun, but these are the only (and probably would be more helpful) real guns
it wouldnt be more helpful since it can run out of ammo but magic gun cannot
Yea I guess but still works as a gun, now it's a just a lil funny thinking some of them use real guns that need ammo while they can just either made or get a potion which lets them just fire at will
The planes have bombs, you can turn into a nuke, you fight against bottles of alcohol, and the devil is almost always seen with a cigar. And you’re worried about a gun on a wall?
Not to mention you fight a Russian Roullette wheel
it's a normal roulette wheel. It was a pun that she made because she killed you.
Oh damn I never noticed that
And a Battle Axe
That’s for people who don’t have fingers
Well ig based on this post and the trailer we know what is going to be added
Just got it in the mail last night and spent three hours playing it this afternoon. This is far and away the hardest game I have ever played. Definitely would appreciate any tips especially what to use coins on. God bless anyone who has beaten this game, especially 100%.
Definitely think and do research before spending coins cuz you only get so many . Chaser, spread and smoke charm are great
Yeah, I might have to restart
There’s detailed explanations on YouTube of locations of coins and if beat run and gun level without getting all coins you can go back to get them all
Depends on how you want to play, and what boss you’re fighting. If you like to stay back and shoot from a far, like with ribby and croaks for instance, roundabout would be a good option. If you prefer to do higher dps and enjoy close combat (which can be harder) something like spread would be better. A lot of the fun of the game comes from trying different stuff and seeing what’s the most effective for any particular boss. But if you get bored or feel like you’re struggling with a specific boss, don’t feel bad about looking up the recommendations for that boss. Remember, you gotta have a great plan and then some! Hope you enjoy the journey :)
Thank you! I don’t really have a preference as far as style. Just whatever makes it easier to accomplish beating the stages/bosses. I only beat two in three hours. I think it’ll take some time to get used to the mechanics.
And that’s fine! When I was first starting out it was sooo hard but after a while you learn the movement and how to avoid stuff and it gets easier. Definitely get smoke bomb if you’re having trouble avoiding attacks, as it makes you immune to damage while you’re dashing. Helped immensely on my first play through
honestly. roundabout and spread or roundabout and crackshot got me thru most of the game
Ty
Get the improved dash asap. Also the roundabout shot is insane if you know how to use it
Play a boss enough so you understand patterns. After that you can beat any boss with any weapon.
My 100% achievements playtrough took 2800 deaths.
Definitely the kind of game you enjoy so much that you want to reward it by buying the DLC.
Don’t say that, it is that hard, u are very good playing and that’s it, I also got it 2 years ago, my 2nd favorite after Dark Souls 1
I just thought it would be harder because of all the boogeyman stories around it. But by no means it's a walk in the park
It’s mostly kids especially with how cuphead looks.
I love watching my plat vid for this. I was so locked in at the end I was just jumping around the falling chip perfectly and I love reliving that moment. I have no idea how many hours it took to finally beat him but it was a lot. Congrats 🎉
The fun thing is that I did that parry on the video by accident and so glad I did because it would have taken me out. I was so locked in that I didn't even noticed the super was charged
>Not as hard as the reputation it has.
Totally agree. I think it was the prefect level of difficulty for me.
I expected it to be way harder based on the stories i heard about it on release. It wasn't easy, but it wasn't some rage inducing impossible game either. Just a pleasant challenge
Exactly how I felt. Liked it so much that should be playing the DLC soon.
I think the dlc is a bit harder than base game, but nothing crazy. It was great
I’ve always wanted to go for it but always found it intimidating. How long did it take you?
Not OP but took me approx 20 hrs including dlc. If I were to redo this I think I could do it under 10 hrs as there is def some stuff to get used to at first but once you get a hang of the concept it's not too bad.
If you love a challenge go for it. It's not easy at all but once you get use to it, you'll get better amd better.
This game has 43 trophies: 24 bronze, 12 silver, 6 gold, and a platinum.
They are very hard (8/10) and take 25 - 35 hours to complete.
Price: $19.99
OpenCritic: 88 / 100 (based on 189 reviews)
Other region prices, wishlist, or buy | Trophy guides: PSNP, PS3T
I am a bot. More info about me
bro 18 hours is quick for Cupheads plat, took me over 40, congrats
Crackshot is op that's all I gotta say 🤣
ah fair enough, I didn’t get the dlc so only had base game shots and charms, relied mainly on charge.
Painful bosses but the dopamine seeing that trophies pop and beating those bosses was well worth it
Fun pain. Dying to a boss a million times and finally overcoming that challenge was the best feeling ever
I also like that no matter how hard a boss is in that game, it never feels like something you can't eventually do.
Just looking at the fight, you know that you have it in you to beat that, it never feels like the game is cheap, it always feels like it's you that is the problem and you know you can get better.
Congratulations. I played the first level on my switch. Had enough.
This is one I can’t see myself ever getting…I’ve never gotten so frustrated with a game before.
Looking at king dice and cala Maria on expert. I almost lost my mind 😅. Funnily enough I thought the devil was easier than these two
King dice is without a doubt my hardest boss
My brother just got Cuphead yesterday in hopes of adding to our list of indie games we've played; little did the two of us know that this game was hard as balls. Bro, y'all make this look so fucking easy doing it without taking damage. HOW DOES ONE BEAT THIS DAMN GAME!!!
>HOW DOES ONE BEAT THIS DAMN GAME!!!
Infinite amounts of trial and error, building skills more and more across a period of multiple hours a day, trying new strategies, retrying old strategies,
and a WHOLE lot of dying.
imo the most satisfying part of the game is in your own skill progression. I’m stuck on the Devil in the base game, but I know I will beat him eventually - the fight is fair and it’s just a matter of fine-tuning my reflexes and responses, as it was for every other fight in the game.
I was looking at my boss fight scores and noticed that I got a B- for Goopy Le Grande and an A- for Dr. Kahl’s Robot, lol. The game truly does get easier with practice (and a lot of patience).
İn sekiro terms
Git gud
I think those are hollow knight terms...
Just git gud mate
Just kidding, the game is all about muscle memory, be cartain that these people that finish the game without taking damage, already died A LOT before being able to do this
I'll have to try several times before you remember "Now the boss will do this, now an enemy will appear here"
I'm currently s ranking the devil and king dice. P ranked and s ranked everyone else. I had a little under 500 deaths after a+ everything the first go round on normal (including the run n guns), and I did a ton of resetting. I'm sure I'm now over a thousand and I've still be resetting. It's also my first time playing lol
I won't even try to S rank everything, would like to, but my mental health is more important
So in other words…
Just git gud mate
It can be really hard lmao, I got it without knowing how hard it was and didn't play for months, honestly it's really hard to beat bosses the first time but you do get the hang of it, the people making it look easy have just been through the rounds
It is formally known as The Great Cuphead War in my house. 300 percent on all 3 saves. About 3 years ago. It is my greatest achievement to this day.
Why is it a war? Did it have any casualties? (smashed controllers do count)
At some point, you just become
It looks like a more fleshed out version of the cut weapon you can use through debug mode. But it had the ability to shoot through the target to damage multiple enemies/hitboxes. Not sure if that's gonna be part of this gun.
i thought it was exclusive to chalice
Yeah I'm not sure how I feel about the massive differences. I hope that mugman gets some unique abilities too
Oh I’m new to the game and haven’t played as MM yet - are they identical?
Looks like a multi-shot but with much bigger area between the projectiles
More range at the cost of less damage and cover perhaps? Seems like a safe option to pepper the boss with shots as well as get rid of destructible projectiles coming at you.
Kidnapping any princess lately, Ice King?
Of course! The Winter Wizard always makes sure to kidnap Baroness Von Bon Bon before lunch.
looks like spray projectile piss
...or lightning. ⚡
