TL;DR
Choosing Between ETRADE and Power ETRADE
For users looking to trade on the go, it is recommended to use the Power ETRADE app rather than the regular ETRADE app. The Power ETRADE app offers a more robust interface, particularly beneficial for options trading [1:1]. However, you can use the Power ETRADE app with a regular E*TRADE account, as it doesn't require a separate account
[1:4].
App Performance and Updates
Some users have reported issues with the new updates to the ETRADE mobile app, such as delays in pulling real-time data and frustrating options views [1:3],
[4:9]. If you're experiencing performance issues, it might be worth trying both the regular and Power ETRADE apps to see which works better for you
[4:7].
Trading Features
The Power ETRADE app allows users to repeat orders by going to the orders section and copying any order [3:3]. However, some users find limitations in editing open orders and prefer using ETRADE Pro for saving and duplicating orders
[3:4],
[3:8].
Extended Hours Trading
To trade during pre-market (PM) and after-hours (AH) sessions, users must sign a form that enables extended hours trading. This can be done by calling E*TRADE customer service or accessing the form from a computer [5:1],
[5:6]. Once signed, users will see "ext hours" in the dropdown menu when setting a limit trade
[5:1].
Additional Considerations
While the mobile app provides convenience, some users find the desktop site offers unique features not available on the app [2]. Additionally, if you encounter issues with the app, contacting customer service may help resolve them, as E*TRADE is known for excellent customer support
[2:3].
if you are doing any trading on the go, don't use the regular etrade app. use their power etrade app. much better, especially for options.
Can I use the power etrade app with my normal etrade account or do I need power etrade account
You can use the regular account. It’s just a more powerful trading interface.
Thanks, I think that's what I got switched too, . Not sure but it seems to be heavily options focused
They rolled it out a few weeks ago, at least on my Pixel 5. The delay is kind of annoying to pull real time data, and the options view is very frustrating.
At least I can now scroll left and right without issues.
Yes and tbh i like it much better
I see a lot of people unhappy with Etrade on here. I’ve been with them for over 10 years, and have generally found it to be pretty good. The fees aren’t the cheapest, but they’re not crazy. The platform is full of useful features, like Power Etrade. My biggest complaint is that I actually have a better experience on the iPhone app than on the desktop site. My charts and live data are easier to monitor on the app than the desktop, but I can’t be logged in to the desktop for the unique features offered there while also logged in through my desktop. I’ve also found customer service to be very helpful (which is how I discovered Power E*Trade); they helped me execute an option trade that wasn’t working on the site. So, if you’ve switched away from Etrade, please let me know what you found that was better and why.
Happy with E-Trade here
I have switched away from etrade as my primary account twice. Then through mergers I end up back at etrade eventually. this is over several decades. their margin rates are terrible, that is the only real complaint I have.
otherwise they have come a long way over the decades. there are minor things with orders I don't like.
they do have excellent customer service and the best fixed income side of things for retail investors. I have had to call their fixed income desk a few times they were worth the fee.
I remember starting with DLJ Direct and riding it all the way to E*Trade. Remember when margin rates were cheap and trades cost $25 per? Complete opposite now.
wow, DLJ Direct, preceded by Donaldson, Lufkin, and Jenrette. Been doing this a long time.
(still refer to my Schwab account as Waterhouse)
I’ve never had any issues with them since opening an account with them 5 years ago
Happy camper with E-Trade
I like power ETrade. The desktop app is slow. I would like the power Etrade app to add more functionality such at being to add your own algorithms.
I'm sticking with E*Trade Pro as long as it's available. The ability to save orders and duplicate orders is super helpful. Repeating an order in Power E*Trade didn't even seem possible, at least not as easily as it is by simply right clicking Pro and picking duplicate order.
I cannot understand how Power E*Trade Pro does not even show your account balance and profit loss real time besides during regular market hours? Surely that is a minimum requirement for any trading platform in 2025? Back to E*Trade Pro for me.
exactly and font sizes suck
If I’m buying and selling options it’s power ETrade. Just monitoring positions ETrade.
I agree with you. I have not used pro since power came out.
I bought my first stock with E*Trade in 1998.
I have seen lots of changes to the platform as you can imagine.
I have never had an issue that has not been resolved.
If I was not happy, I would bolt to one of the very fine competitors.
I hear transferring is a breeze.
Good luck!
Me too. However, when they were taken over their help went to shit.
I just don’t get power Etrade. It looks like it has more stuff for options but if I’m trading 0dte I can’t be confused.
Am I crazy or does the power Etrade app not allow you to edit open orders. If I have an option order to sell at a price for profit and cut it at a loss it doesn’t allow me to modify it. Only cancel it. Am I crazy or missing something
Agree that’s all you need, I think Power is intended to keep the young ones entertained.
Been with E*TRADE since 2013 and had not one complaint. I updated the app Friday night thinking update means better. This new app is garbage. It’s not even the design. The app is about 10 seconds behind simple tasks such as scrolling down the screen. It’s frozen about 20 times so far. This is all with the market closed on the weekend. Monday morning should be fantastic when it tries to perform the complicated task of updating numbers. God help me if I need to make a trade.
You only use mobile?
Mostly, only have my phone traveling during the day.
Which app, regular or Power? I updated both on Saturday, working fine for me on iOS.
If you’ve only tried one, try the other, it might work better for you.
Just the regular. Power does work better so that’s what I’ve been using today. It’s not my preference, but at least it works. Thanks
The app was shitty before too.
It’s way worse
Is it a complete redesign? I thought etrade app ok, better than fidelity. Etrade app has live pricing, L3 and better charts than Fidelity
Complete redesign, but the design isn’t as much the issue as it doesn’t function.
According to their website I should be able to trade PM and AH but it doesn’t seem to work. Anyone know how?
You have to make it a limit buy
Need to call them and they will walk you through signing a form that will allow extended hours trades. Once you sign, it enabled your account and you will see "ext hours" in the drop down when you set a limit trade.
You can sign the agreement online but you have to do it from a actual computer
^This. Takes all of 20 seconds.
I never look at Screen Time but it caught my eye today when I saw how much usage there was today. At midnight it shows about 30 minutes of operation for camera and E*Trade. Between then and 7am they are both open the whole six hours. Then about 20 minutes for 7am. Nothing for two hours, until I start using my phone around 10am.
I had my phone locked before I went to bed. Should I be suspicious?

I only have one question. Did the trades the phone made overnight make you any money? 😂
The benevolent hacker/trader
Turn off background processes for everything you don’t absolutely need running in background (precious little id think). Bugs in an app, especially when they connect to a network, can eat your battery
Do you have a cat?
yeah but his face doesnt look like mine
Has anyone else on iPhone had an issue with being able to login but accounts not loading? Just spinning and spinning the circle. Other tabs like watchlist and markets load fine. Accounts will spin and then crash the app.
Seems that it’s been happening since last week.
Called etrade. Deleted the app, reinstalled and it works now.
I had this happen on my iPhone as well. Turns out that my PiHole was blocking a connection that the Etrade app wanted. I added wildcard entry for localytics.com and everything works perfectly now.
Was just gonna post that. *.localytics.com was my fix too.
I don’t see any issues with iOS app loading accounts, portfolio etc. Try deleting the app an re- install.
Did that. Still no go. iOS 14.4, iPhone SE.
I am having same issue since last week. Is there a solution to it? If so please share the info to fix it.
There are two ETrade apps, download Power ETrade app should put you back in the business
Since the pandemic, the minute you click a ticker, I get an interrupted page half the time. This requires you to resort to mobile where the UI isn't nearly as beneficial to research before putting in an order. Extremely frustrating.

Is it a terrible cloud provider they run on; or maybe an "on-prem" solution that is overloaded by volume? I'm close to pulling over $200K worth of money out to find a different broker.

Thoughts and similar experiences?
E*TRADE is the best
use etrade pro
browser based power etrade sucks ass
That sounds like it might just be a problem on your end. Works perfectly fine for me.
works fine for me
Are you using power e*trade? never had an issue on my end
It's 2:30 pm and both the Power App and regular app just stopped working on the orders. "Timeout" warnings are coming back.
Anyone else having probs?
I already cleared the cache and forced stop on both, so I don't think it's on my end.
Ive been on hold for 30 minutes trying to see if my calls have been purchased.
31mins here same bullshit
47 mins for me
1:07 no one is going to answer are they
Yo wtf is this shit I can’t sell my shit
Fucking bullshit. I will be switching to ToS
Finally answered and mobile order now showing cancelled
if you read the fine print when singing up for your brokerage, you would see that they are not held liable for discrepancies and incorrect values presented on their trading platforms. These sorts of glitches happen.
But what if they are regularly occurring and only on one particular stock? I’m not trying to sue E*TRADE just curious why this only happens with GME and why the white to blue shift happens. This used to only happen during after hours for GME but over the last 2 weeks it’s been occurring during normal trading hours.
4 hour volume count vs daily had been off by 1-4 million everyday on TDA/tos/fidelity since at least the beginning of April. What’s your 4 hour count for yesterday 20th on yours? TOS is a little over 1.5 million and daily says 2.48 million.
We all know they’re not glitches!!!!
wow impressive, how do you know?
It's not a bug; it's a feature.
That's just how little volume is being traded.
I would like for your answer to make sense. But it goes from 95k to fugin 7k. After refreshing after the next candle began. This and the blue text wonkiness.
Nailed it. Good shit buddy. We need something pinned for this stuff so shills don’t down vote till we forget
ThIs Is JuSt a GlItCh AnD yUo ShOuLd NoT wOrRy AbOuT iT.
As a software engineer, this made me laugh pretty freaking hard.
