What Redditors are Saying

How to Watch Naruto Without Filler

TL;DR Use resources like Naruto Kai or anime filler lists to skip non-essential episodes. Focus on the main story arcs and consider revisiting select fillers later.

Naruto Kai and Fan Edits

One popular method for watching Naruto without filler is using fan edits like Naruto Kai. This version cuts out all filler episodes and unnecessary content, providing a streamlined viewing experience focused solely on the core story [1:4], [1:9], [3:1]. While some viewers find it janky at parts, many appreciate its efficiency in delivering the main narrative without distractions.

Anime Filler Lists

Another approach is consulting anime filler lists that detail which episodes are fillers and can be skipped. Websites like AnimeFillerList.com provide comprehensive guides to help viewers avoid filler episodes [1:8]. This method allows you to watch the canonical episodes while skipping those that don't contribute to the main storyline.

Selective Viewing of Fillers

While most fillers can be skipped without affecting your understanding of the main plot, some viewers suggest watching specific filler arcs that offer quality entertainment or character development. For instance, the Chikara Arc/Power Arc is recommended due to its high-quality animation and engaging fights [1:5]. Similarly, Itachi and Kakashi-related fillers are sometimes considered worth watching [1:3].

Reading the Manga

For those who prefer a more concise experience, reading the manga is an option. The manga contains no fillers, intros, or recaps, focusing purely on the story as intended by the original creators [3:2], [3:3]. This method provides a direct and uninterrupted narrative flow.

Personal Preferences and Recommendations

Ultimately, whether to watch fillers depends on personal preference. Some viewers enjoy the additional content and character exploration provided by fillers, while others find them tedious and prefer sticking to the canon material [4:1], [4:5]. If you're unsure, you might start with the main episodes and revisit selected fillers later based on recommendations from other fans [2:1], [4:4].

ORIGINAL POST

I was wondering if I can skip all filler episodes completely, or is that going to affect the whole process of understanding the story ? I watched it way before but the filler made me take a lot of brakes and stopped watching it at the end And now I wanna watch it again and save some time

You can watch it without wasting time on the fillers, most of them are waste of time and doesn't add anything to the story.

Ya you can skip all fillers no problem, but except Chikara Arc/Power Arc that one you can't skip it's just too good. and has a lot of cool fights with movie quality.

Skip fillers. Watch them later if you feel like watching some additional side stories.

Skip the filler, go back to it later. I read all of the manga first, then watched all of the anime. Trust me, the canon story is what's important.

Just watch at your own pace. I have watched each and every episode and all the films over the period of 1 year or more. I highly recommend it.

I grew up watching og naruto so definitely watched some fillers but largely skipped most of em once I could tell it's fillerm.

I know there's some good ones but for the most part the series is already incredibly long, if you want you can look up the best fillers and include them during your watches.

I've been rewatching it through Naruto Kai. It's a little janky at parts and most of the openings are cut out which is a little bit of a bummer but over all the best way to watch the series.

Honestly, if you just want to see only what applies to the core story as adapted from the manga?

Yeah, probably best.

If you just like content that displays characters on unique and sometimes weird journeys?

Honestly, I don't think most of the filler is nearly as bad as most make it out to be.

Regardless, I personally would say watch it all, but maybe go back for the filler after the rest, if you'd prefer.

Only fillers I watched tbh were the early naruto ones, and the backstory fillers of clans or characters like kakashi obito or itachi ans shisui. Other ones were dragging it imo I might’ve missed a couple nice fillers

Look up NarutoKai. Ita free to download and its basically someone who has edited all of Naruto anime so it only follows the canon story. It's actually really good.

Death-T · 3 years ago

I mean, you don’t really have to worry about fillers for Part 1. You just watch episodes 1-135 and then watch the second half of episode 220. Or you can watch that last filler arc, episodes 216 to 220, because it transitions nicely into the Gaara Retrieval Arc in Shippuden and gives some screen-time to a background character in that canon story arc.

When you get to Shippuden, you have to decide whether or not to skip canon’ish fillers, like the 3 Tails filler that basically fills in the gaps left by the manga. It’s a little tricky to skip that arc because it mixes in some canon scenes.

You really only need a filler guide for Shippuden. This one here seems fine https://www.animefillerlist.com/shows/naruto-shippuden

There’s enough canon on its own. If you are finding you like it enough to watch all of it, then you can start thinking about fillers too

2 upvotes on reddit
PowderPills · 1 month ago

If it’s your first watch, you should watch the fillers. It’s long and annoying sometimes, but some fillers are great.

A lot of the people who complain about certain characters not getting enough screen time are some of the same who skip fillers. Regardless of whether it’s canon or not.

I low-key kinda have a "haha lil bastard" reaction to the boat arc... I forget but I remember thinking, "fuck man a war is happening or about to, and this hella long ass boat filler arc been going on so long it's starting to get hysterically funny. Coupled with at that time the eng dub was still being released, so a few episodes then months for the next few...

That and the cat arc with Sasuke were low-key such a different vibe it felt unique. Also the one with Lee and Gaara fking up the fake tails if that was filler...

Nah, they break the pacing of the story. It comes to a point when something big is going to happen, and a single line starts a filler saga of an unrelated past event for over +10 episodes, then they go back canon for 2 episodes, and then another +10 episodes filler saga of flashbacks starts. All of these in the middle of what is supposed to be a single fight.

Just watch Naruto episode 101, it's so funny.

I’m currently revisiting the whole Naruto anime. Are the fillers worth watching?

Recently, I decided to revisit the whole Naruto anime. Back then I was watching some episodes here and there but was never fully invested. Then I just read the manga up until the end of Shippuden. Since then I’ve forgotten a lot about what happened. So far watching the anime has been fun and nostalgic, and I can’t wait for what’s next.

I’m currently in the arc where the 3rd Hokage is clashing with Orichimaru, and where Naruto is about to fight Gaara. I plan to go straight to ep 220 right after they finish the Sasuke retrieval arc to save time. Are the episodes in between worth watching?

Its definitely worth it and you can skip the filler as it will not impact development of characters or plot. As top post mentioned the back stories of kakashi and itachi are worth it.

Another thing to note: Naruto is notorious for flashbacks and replaying the SAME ones to remind you of certain things during some present scene (it'll be like several minutes of flashback not a quick montage) and you can fast forward after you've seen the flashback before if you want.

3 upvotes on reddit
Acorolex · 6 months ago

I’m currently watching it, and haven’t skipped any filler. And to be honest, I think the filler is entirely worth watching if you have the time. If you really like the show, the filler is just more of it, and has some pretty interesting characters and battles. Of course, if you just want the story, then you can skip it without missing any vital information.

Watch 119-120. 349-361. Covers Kakashi. Watch 451-558. Covers Itachi.

Use a filler list and skip every other filler. But some are cool and I suggest watch them after the show.

100% skip the filler. It will not feel fast paced lmao there are 700 episodes, about 500 of them being canon and some episodes drag. Pretty sure one specific fight is like 5-9 episodes even skipping filler

2 upvotes on reddit

Some of the fillers are pretty fun to watch. Like “gotta see gotta know, kakashi’s true face” is a really good one. I’d say just watch a little bit of the fillers and if you don’t like it skip em.

  2. Use Filler Guides: There are several online guides that list which episodes are considered filler. Websites like Anime Filler List provide comprehensive breakdowns.

  3. Watch the Essential Episodes:

    • Naruto (Original Series):

      • Total Episodes: 220
      • Filler Episodes: 90 (approx.)
      • Recommended Episodes: 1-5, 6-19, 20-25, 26-96, 97-100, 101-106, 107-141, 142-220 (skip fillers).

Recommendation: If you're looking for a streamlined experience, consider using a filler guide to skip episodes while watching. This way, you can focus on the main storyline and character development without distractions.
