Importance of the Sannin in the Naruto Series

TL;DR The Sannin—Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Tsunade—are pivotal characters in the Naruto series due to their immense power, influence on the main characters, and contributions to the storyline.

Role and Influence

The Sannin are legendary figures in the Naruto universe, each with unique abilities and significant influence over the series' events. Jiraiya is renowned for his sage mode and summoning techniques involving frogs [4]. Orochimaru is known for his unmatched knowledge in ninjutsu and body modifications, making him a formidable adversary [4]. Tsunade, as a medical ninja, possesses unparalleled healing abilities and strength, which she uses to protect her allies [4].

Mentorship and Legacy

The Sannin have played crucial roles as mentors to the main characters. Jiraiya's mentorship of Naruto is particularly significant, as he imparts critical teachings and techniques that help Naruto grow into a powerful ninja. Orochimaru's influence on Sasuke is also profound, shaping much of Sasuke's journey throughout the series. Tsunade, as the Fifth Hokage, serves as a mentor to Sakura and plays a vital role in Konoha's leadership [4:1].

Narrative Impact

The presence of the Sannin adds depth to the narrative, providing connections to past generations and enriching the world-building of the series. Their backstories and relationships with other characters offer insights into the history and politics of the ninja world. For example, Tsunade's lineage as Hashirama's granddaughter ties the current generation to the founding of Konoha [4:1].

Character Development

The Sannin contribute significantly to character development within the series. Their interactions with the protagonists often lead to pivotal moments of growth and self-discovery. Jiraiya's death, for instance, is a turning point for Naruto, motivating him to become stronger and more determined to achieve peace [5:4].

Symbolic Representation

The Sannin symbolize the diverse paths a ninja can take, representing different philosophies and approaches to power. Jiraiya embodies perseverance and hope, Orochimaru represents ambition and the pursuit of knowledge, while Tsunade stands for resilience and healing. These contrasting ideals provide a rich tapestry of themes that resonate throughout the series.

I know i will get hate for this but i m gonna say it anyway

I think boruto's team will be the most effected by if something happens to boruto (like him dying). If u notice their dynamic they aren't like old team 7 even if some people try to make them relate to other team 7. They completely different and the only team they represent is yahiko konan and nagato. Yahiko( the sun), konan (the girl who loves yahiko) and nagato ( the moon).

Naruto and hinata fans aren't going to like this but i don't care anyway. There are scene where we saw how naruto was defending kawaki while holding boruto's dead body and even next day they were having dinner naruto acted like nothing happened wasn't even angry with kawaki. For hinata yes she was hurt when she saw her one son is talking about killing her other son. Ofcz she will be hurt right after boruto's team 7. She is his mother gave birth to him . But i think eventually she will move on because he has to she has 2 other children too.

Lets talk about sarada and mitsuki now. Even look at the picture boruto looks like center of their world . Sarada who use to be really shy kid didn't know how to make friend boruto who always use to keep her company and help her to socialize. She also use to stalk boruto (chapter 700 of naruto, boruto anime, boruto manga) she can relate to boruto a lot she herself said. Lets see the things she did for him. Always shielding boruto with her own body. She even unlocked mangekyo for him. She send her father to save boruto practically begged him for the first and last time. Always worried about him. If u notice all she think about is boruto's safety she doesn't care if her image get ruined in the process.

Lets talk about mitsuki. Boruto is his sun. His whole reason of life is boruto. He is like nagato a lot. He follows boruto's judgement like nagato use to follow yahiko's. Nagato lost his mind after losing yahiko. It will be same for mitsuki. He wouldn't stop at anything to avenge him.

New team 7 has very unique bond which very different from past team 7 they are more connected and more close. It would break them if something happens to boruto. They again and again proved how much they love boruto.

Totally agree. Sarada and Mitsuki genuinely love Boruto. They would give their lives for him. The same cannot be said for the original Team 7 (even today, although Sasuke would be ready given what he owes Naruto). But there is a real and beautiful alchemy in this new team 7 and has even been developed within the fillers. We see them training together, always hanging out together or even when Mitsuki defects or Mitsuki carries Boruto and Sarada half dead after the fight against Vjctor. We can even think about after Omnipotence, they remain totally loyal to Boruto regardless of what others think, a bit like Himawari, they form a real family (a bit like Sakura said in episode 34 of Boruto NNG). In short, I love this osmosis and this new family.

Naruto and hinata's reaction or better yet lack of really was so frustrating like dude he killed your son. I get it there is no need to ostracize him bit atleast show some reaction, some hurt grief pain something anything. No next chapter comes and they just brush it off as if their son dying is just another normal tuesday morning like wtf dude. Instances like this ikemoto's writing falls short and bland like seriously they are his parents and excet one scene of naruto crying there is no other reaction to it. Sarada reacted better to this shit than naruto hinata shikamaru and sumire.

Soooo reallllll your son is suffering so much. Atleast stay by his side. Why is his uncle there more than you like wtffff dude?? Like i get u r a good person but thats urrrr son and neither him nor hinata are there. If that was sarada sasuke would be levelling everybody for his peanut. Ikemoto really needs to clarify why he wrote these chapters so half assed. Likeeee dude why ??? i was expecting so much drama but no none zero they could have extended this arc a few chapters to give us a better understanding on what everyone was going through.

One more major problem why the fuck in the first chapter in tbv hima mentions her dad is gone and not her mom. Even shikamaru mentioned hinata but not her own daughter. What the fuck are these people smoking when planning these chapters and dialogues because fuck i or literal any redditor can write some more emotional dialogue. We wait a month and no actual hurt. I am here for the angst hurt people why ikemoto why😑😑😑😑

Naruto (and Boruto by proxy) is a victim of anime morality. Obnoxiously virtuous which cause you to question their ethics. Boruto still referring to Kawaki as bro? You knew him for a couple months and he went on to kill/kidnap your parents, then ruin every relationship you have through Eida/omnipotence. But it’s no different than Naruto’s obsession with Sasuke, who was a global terrorist that tried to kill him multiple times. That’s why the aftermath of the Great ninja left me dumbfounded. With the opportunity to end the infinite Tsukuyomi, Sasuke openly admits that he wants to kill all Kage then insert himself as leader of the world he builds in his image, yet he serves no jail time after his defeat??? What makes him any different the Obito and the rest of the Akatsuki?

Grieving Naruto (And Hinata)

Posted by omgisthatbravo · in r/Boruto · 1 month ago

Throughout the first 25 chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, the story has primarily focused on the threat of the Shinju, and the effects of Eida/Kawaki’s transgressions at the end of B:NNG. Their transgressions being: Kawaki’s “murder” of Lord Seventh and the First Lady & Eida’s subconscious use of Omnipotence (on a multiversal scale) to rewrite the villagers memories. This resulting in Kawaki and Boruto, essentially, switching lives.

I’ll refrain from going on a tangent relating to Eida’s omnipotence, and focus solely on Kawaki’s “murder” of Naruto & Hinata. While I wasn’t particularly a fan of Ikemoto’s decision to do this, I did give him the benefit of the doubt. I couldn’t deny the possibility of all the, narratively rich, ripple effects that an event of this magnitude would cause. Two and a half years later and I’m nothing short of disappointed.

Naruto. Kind-hearted, empathetic, virtuous, and compassionate. The savior of Konoha. A beacon of hope, and the living embodiment of The Will of Fire. A leader, a father, a husband, and a friend. Yet we don’t see him mourned. A pillar of the ninja world and we don’t see a funeral, a flashback, or anyone grieving for that matter. An event like this would be a global tragedy and would affect far more than just Konohagakure.

How does Himawari feel about it? Who knows? But we know she thinks Boruto Otsutsuki isn’t all that bad. Even though during the couple months she knew him (Kawaki) he was an asshole and ended up “killing” her parents.

How does Sarada feel now that her mentor and idol is dead, and how does that affect her ambitions? Who knows? For some reason her story revolves around Boruto and is planting the seeds for her eventual collision with Hidari.

How does the Hyuga clan feel knowing their clan head’s first born daughter is dead, and her daughter is an orphan? Who knows? Correct me if I’m wrong, but we haven’t seen a Hyuga clan member since Hinata’s dad in the parent day arc. I could continue speculating other characters reactions but I digress.

All of this to say, Naruto (and Hinata’s) death should be a far more preventable part of the story than it actually is. I can’t help but feel like Ikemoto chooses not to acknowledge the ramifications of Naruto and Hinata’s death for two possible reasons. The first reason being that he doesn’t care to because we, as the readers/audience, know that they’re still alive and will one day make their debut appearance in TBV. The second reason being that he was more focused on removing Naruto & Sasuke from the story. Egregiously “fridging” them both. At least Naruto was respected enough to be fridged on-screen. Sasuke wasn’t awarded the same treatment.

honestly I think by this point shikamaru could theoretically put together that sasuke isn't actually a missing nin... that said, this just shows my problem with boruto in general: the complete disregard about naruto legacy characters. I get wanting to push out your new characters as the center point, but was such dsregard with legacy characters necessary?

It is a bit awkward. Most of the main cast is aware that Naruto isn’t dead. Even Himawari seems to intuitively know this. So a funeral would mostly feature the grieving of minor characters. Because the audience is also aware that they aren’t dead, it has no emotional weight for us.

I’m sure there was a grand funeral. Wouldn’t be surprised if all the Kage attended with delegations. Thing is… why show it? Boruto and Sasuke can’t attend. Kawaki would be there but watching Kawaki greet mourners at his parent “funeral” that he caused would really just make him look like an absolute psycho.

I don’t think Ikemoto wants Kawaki to appear irredeemable so he might be intentionally hiding the emotional fallout to prevent the audience from completely hating Kawaki.

>So a funeral would mostly feature the grieving of minor characters.

>Thing is… why show it?

To further show us the effect he had on the ninja world into adulthood. The funeral would feature characters from the 17 year series that were once supporting/minor characters. Characters that were relegated to practically non-characters in Boruto. Lol idgaf how Cho Cho and Inojin grieve Naruto. I want to see Kakashi, Tsunade, Rock Lee, Bee, etc.

>Kawaki would be there but watching Kawaki greet mourners at his parent “funeral” that he caused would really just make him look like an absolute psycho.

Well, thats what he is. And the funeral would undoubtedly shine light something suspicious going on with him. As I've said multiple times on this subreddit. Omnipotence or not, villagers should take note that Kawaki has no memories of Naruto (nor anyone else) that are older than a couple months. But because omnipotenece is far too complex of a concept for Ikemoto to tackle, you have to contrive ways for discrepancies not to be acknowledged. Which means cant speak in detail about what happened in chapter 80 and prior.

>I don’t think Ikemoto wants Kawaki to appear irredeemable so he might be intentionally hiding the emotional fallout to prevent the audience from completely hating Kawaki.

Lol most readers dont hate Kawaki for his actions towards Boruto and Naruto. Most people hate him beacuse hes uninteresting as fuck. He literally hasnt changed one bit since we've met him. Hes an asshole who only cares about Lord seventh. That's his entire character

If Boruto was a different story, then yes. For whatever reason Ikemoto hasn’t redeemed decided to use a relatively small cast and gives as little panel space to legacy characters as possible. Characters like Kakashi having cameo appearances at the funeral would do little more than increase the calls for them to rejoin the plot full time.

I won’t say I wouldn’t want to see it. I’d love it. But a chapter of Naruto era nostalgia would truly just be fan service to older fans. Few of the Boruto cast benefit from the inclusion so it kinda makes sense for the event to be skipped in the manga. If the anime gave us an episode or two for it, I’d be quite pleased.

Regarding Kawaki, he’s been set up to be exclusively Boruto’s problem to fix. Other characters being exposed to him being suspicious is distracting since we know none of them will actually be involved is whatever Ikemoto has planned.

To add onto this, Sasuke going rouge again apparently has no consequences at all. Not for himself or for Sarada. I think there was one background character who mentioned something about her being his daughter, but that’s it. We, as the audience know what happened to Naruto and Hinata, but to the world the only one strong enough to “kill” Naruto is Sasuke. They have literally no idea what actually went down, and it looks extremely bad that Sasuke went with him.

Mind you, Naruto is the savior of the ninja world. Sasuke and Boruto would be hunted down to the ends of the earth for proving everyone right about him in the end. Kakashi would look completely incompetent because giving him a second chance happened under his tenure. Strangely though, no one seems to care one bit. We literally have no idea how much Sarada knows about her own clan. Both her uncle and father and distant cousin caused the most damage to the ninja world in at least the last two generations and she’s just… vibing. Worried about Boruto. No one even looks at her sideways after her father helped kill Naruto Uzumaki (again, the audience knows what happened, but omnipotence having everyone believe the 12 year old did it all alone and Sasuke had nothing to do with it but still went with him wouldn’t make sense to anyone in universe).

Shikamaru doesn’t believe Naruto is dead though, which is the reason he hasn’t accepted the official title of Hokage

Shikamarus instincts tell him something is off and he trusts Boruto, Sasuke is sealed rn so can’t really have any consequences

Also the fact Sasuke decided to leave with Boruto Naruto’s supposed killer probably informs some of Shikamarus though process for trusting Boruto, Sasuke would be the first to kill someone who killed Naruto not train him

Ultimately these were plot reasons to sideline them to have Boruto and the new Gen get their focus without needing to kill them off

That’s didn’t even cross my mind, you’re absolutely right. Not to mention that Sasuke isn’t a staple of the community. He’s constantly gone for years at a time. Add the fact that he’s stoic/soft spoken, the villagers barely know him. They have no reason (outside of a Kakashi and Naruto co-sign) to overlook his actions in aiding Boruto.

That’s because Boruto hasn’t redeemed him yet. We still have to wait for that punch of brotherly love that Boruto promised back in chapter 80.

Once it lands Kawaki will give us a little cry and explain why he’s a jerk. Boruto will say he understands and forgives him. Then Kawaki will let out Naruto and Hinata. They will immediately forgive Kawaki too (because he didn’t kill Boruto yet) and Himawari will join them for a big family hug.

"they were shoehorned into the story at the last minute"

But they were in the story from the very beginning?

Gato from the Land of Waves arc traveled with two samurai as henchmen. Samurai were made known to exist very early and just weren't relevant to the story until the small role they played later.

You know the manga is about ninjas right?

Them having a bigger role outside the Iron Country would make little sense.

Naruto like most mangas explains things/worlds as it needs to.

That's your mistake, assuming that they are more important than they are and the construction of the world is not knowing every insignificant thing but knowing the important things. Shikamaru is about ninja villages and does not show construction well enough

My problem with them is that Mifune is this total nobody. He's a guy who appears twice and in those appearances: gets Kotoamatsukami'd and then defeats Hanzo.

You see the problem with that? THIS RANDOM DUDE BEAT HANZO WHEN JIRAIYA, TSUNADE AND OROCHIMARU WERE SCARED SHITLESS OF HIM FOR DECADES!

If they were just one village's version of the Anbu, where they're these powerful and versatile fighters, that would have been one thing. But no, they're just these dudes who run around chilling, while their boss is able to defeat one of the single most powerful secondary characters in the series?

They didn't exist, Mifune beats Hanzo, and then they never show up again.

Hanzo is absolutely on the upper crust of characters in the series, up to the War Arc whenever everybody gets waaaaaay stronger.

Jiraiya, in his physical prime, who would have been in the same level of power as Tsunade and Orochimaru, was scared shitless that there was even a single living person strong enough to even contest with Hanzo.

This is after seeing everything that Minato was capable of, this is after hearing about Sakumo Hatake, seeing Hiruzen in his prime, Itachi, so on. This is also a Jiraiya that knows imperfect Sage Mode, meaning that he would have thought that Hanzo STILL would have been stronger than him with Ma and Pa... who together were capable of fighting three stronger Paths of Pain than what Hanzo himself fought. And even when Hanzo fought Pain, it was a significantly weaker Hanzo than the one that fought The Sanin and all of the other shinobi that were at that battle.

The kicker on that part in particular? Jiraiya would have had no idea that Hanzo had gotten as weak as he had; he had to either assume that he stayed roughly as powerful or he had gotten even stronger. Jiraiya didn't know about the stuff with the Akatsuki or Danzo's espionage that really nerfed Hanzo over time, he was looking at raw stats and said "no, it can't be possible for someone to be this strong."

[Warning: Full Naruto Spoilers]

Boruto is not included; I didn't count the fillers, people who had already died (in the flashbacks) before Naruto started, or nameless characters, and found the death toll to be: [Warning: Full Naruto Spoilers]:

  • Well-known, great characters: [6 characters]: >!(the Third Hokage, Chiyo, Asuma, Jiraiya, Shikaku, & Neji)!<
  • Characters with very limited screen time: [5 characters]: >!(Hayate, Inoichi, Chiriku, Ao, & Mabui)!<
  • Well-known characters who had some redemption or in the grey: [6 characters]: >!(Haku, Zabuza, Itachi, Nagato, Konan & Obito)!<
  • Jinchuriki: Almost all the Jinchuriki (but we only get to know a few of them or know them a little later).
  • Villains: Almost all of them died, except for a very few who became good or neutral. Some of the villains' deaths were very emotional, like: >!Kimimaro, Kisame, Sasori, and Madara!<
  • Very emotional deaths for already dead characters; I know I said I won't but these are well-known characters with significant arcs & backstories: [3 characters]: >!(Yahiko, Kushina & Minato)!<
  • Alive characters who lost a limb permanently: [3 characters]: >!(Fourth Raikage, Sasuke & Guy)!<

I may have forgotten someone, but I think that's all of them

Do you agree with this premise, or do you have other Shonen in mind? (Please no spoilers; don't mention any character deaths, just the name of the Shonen anime)

Jirayas death was one of the saddest in this anime, actually the whole pain saga was very sad. Btw, where is Hidan? Does he count as dead?

3 upvotes on reddit
mynova2 · OP · 3 months ago

I found someone commented about this:

Okay, so I did some digging. The Naruto wiki does say that the second Naruto Fanbook says malnutrition is an exception to Hidans immortality.

However, looking deeper I found a interview with Kishimoto with some questions about Hidan.

Now there's 2 conflicting pieces of information. However, the Fanbook was released in 2009 while the interview was in 2015. Imo, the recency of the interview holds more weight.

Regardless, both could be true. He may still be able to die due to malnutrition, but he has not yet. He could have died in the gap between Shippuden and Boruto, but that ultimately depends on what the author writes.

Stakes in shounen has always been a hit or miss for me.

Naruto is, sadly, a miss for the most part.

Asuma and Shikaku are only regarded highly only for Shikamaru, but they themselves didn't do much to leave anything lasting of them. Chiyo had done more in the same arc she was introduced in, where she died. Asuma and Shikaku have done nothing to warrant anything upstanding other than, "Oh, I'm dying, let me leave something behind to Shikamaru."

And Neji's death was the dumbest death in existence.

Villains dying don't represent the stakes.

The only jinchuriki dying that mattered was Gaara, and he was brought back to life at the end. We literally didn't have time to even care about the others until Bee came, and he didn't die.

I think the only story where the stakes were felt without people dying so much would be World Trigger.

No one died, but losing in battle was bad before you feel the stakes of what happens if you lose a battle.

4 upvotes on reddit
mynova2 · OP · 3 months ago

I mean, even if they aren't a hit for you, they still count as stakes and death. For example, most AOT deaths are mostly shock value. They get you to know some characters for a few scenes or eps then kill them horribly. You barely start to know or like them, and I still counted AOT as a very high-stakes anime.

Regarding Jinchuriki, I agree. That's why I wrote the same thing next to them; I was just counting the deaths.

For villains, I disagree because some shonen don't even kill their villains, or only kill a very few of them, like One Piece.

Chiyo was a very deep and well-written character, and her fighting and killing her grandson Sasori, along with her sacrifice/death speech, were very emotional.

Asuma's death was very emotional to me too. I liked his personality a lot. He had his moments in Naruto, like fighting Itachi and Kisame, saving Shikamaru from certain death, and being a teacher for Team 10, as well as other scenes. They also focused on him a lot before he died, so he was well-written right before his death. And people who want more from assuma can even watch famous filler arcs like the Twelve Guardian Shinobi or Kakashi Anbu arcs.

"Neji's death was the dumbest death in existence."
That's only because the animation wasn't that great. Usually, when top-tier animated ep drop, the next ep will have low animation, and that's exactly what happened in eps 363 & 364, where he died. But if you think about it, his death makes absolute sense. He was fighting the combination of almost all the tailed beasts together, two Rinnegan users, and Edo Madara. These sticks were probably moving faster than bullet speed. If Naruto had turned into the Seven-Tails or Pain had killed Neji after some struggle, it wouldn't have felt cheap. The level of danger was at least 10 times higher than that when Neji died. My only complain is that they should have given him more screen time before his death.

It's tricky for me to be invested in stakes in a story. You either have Fairy Tail that puts fake outs so many times that I'm numb to it. Or you shove in so much death that I also get numb to it, as it just became gore porn.

If you watch the anime, then yes, Asuma's death would hit harder, thanks to the fact that there was a whole filler arc that had Asuma have a backstory. The manga just goes, "Oh yeah, here's some stuff about Asuma, now we'll kill him off."

And as someone who reads the manga a lot, the fact is that the stakes of handling emotional deaths didn't hit for those other than Neji's shocking death. It was shocking, but the fact is that his death was forced.

HxH has a lot of death than Naruto, tbh I wouldn’t even say that Naruto have a lot of stakes, it’s not that dark either.

Akame Ga Kill is also another example, I didn’t watch it yet but I heard that a lot of characters dies in there.

So sorry to break it to you, but it seems that there’s actually a lot of other shonen that are darker and more mature than Naruto, and Naruto is not even mature and don’t even have that much stakes at all.

Do the answer is: no, I disagree, you probably didn’t watch a lot of animes.

Edit: Oh, I just remembered that there’s also Code Geass and Full Metal Alchemist that are shonen with higher stakes than Naruto.

Akame Ga Kill. I haven't watched it. Someone who watched both shows needs to give their opinion on them

Code Geass, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and HxH have fewer good guy and morally grey deaths than Naruto. Naruto has about 19 characters of these, so my point stands as it is

  1. I think Orochimaru should have been portrayed as more powerful than the others. It was him and Minato that were considered as the 4th Hokage candidates. Also a person planning to take down a whole village should be hella powerful. Not to mention all of the experiments he performed in order to enhance himself. Lastly, he’s supposed to be a snake sage (right? or is that just Kabuto?). I’m kinda biased for Oro too so that plays a part lol

  2. Next should be Jiraiya. He is a sage and the grand toad dude even said he’d be the mentor of a prophet.

  3. Next in line is Tsunade. I think she’s last because they considered her for the Hokage position only after Orochimaru was already rogue and Jiraiya had turned it down.

Tbh Orochimaru was probably the strongest among the three of them he was immortal and his fighting skills were pretty good to plus we don't about the numerous Jutsus he mastered. So no matter how many times you kill him he'll just pop back outta snakes mouth even Sasuke had hard time fighting Orochimaru when he was weak af that guy is so underrated in terms of strength

None of them. The Sannins have always been portrayed as equal in terms of power, so I'd just like Orochimaru and Tsunade to have more fights than they did or else a main solo fight like Jiraiya. If I were forced to choose one as stronger it would be difficult because everyone has reasons to be chosen:

- Orochimaru was the main villain for a certain period

- Jiraiya was the protagonist's sensei

- Tsunade was Hokage and the most powerful kunoichi

I think orochimaru being the strongest makes the most sense. Tsunade spent years gambling and goofing off. Jiraiya seemed to stay active but orochimaru is literally researching ninjutsu. He should be the strongest for that reason. He has broken jutsu up his sleeve like the reanimating jutsu. Maybe they were all equal at one point but orochimaru should’ve eclipsed them at some point. I don’t see how orochimaru can devote himself to learning ninjutsu and Tsunade is goofing around but we’re expected to believe they are still equal after all those years.

What Naruto Characters that were completely ruined in the Boruto Anime?

Posted by Amber_Flowers_133 · in r/Boruto · 4 months ago
  1. Sasuke Uchiha: Many fans feel that Sasuke's character has been diminished in "Boruto." While he was a complex character with a deep backstory and significant development in "Naruto," his role in "Boruto" often portrays him as a distant, somewhat incompetent mentor, lacking the depth he once had.

  2. Sakura Haruno: Sakura was a character who showed considerable growth in "Naruto," becoming a skilled ninja and a healer. However, in "Boruto," some fans believe she has been sidelined, with her contributions and abilities not being showcased adequately compared to other characters.

  3. Naruto Uzumaki: As the protagonist, Naruto's development into Hokage was a significant aspect of "Naruto." In "Boruto," he is often depicted as a busy leader, which some fans argue diminishes his role as an active participant in the story. Moreover, his parenting has been criticized, with many feeling he is neglectful of Boruto.

  4. Kakashi Hatake: Kakashi, who was a beloved mentor in "Naruto," appears less frequently in "Boruto" and has been criticized for his reduced impact on the story, which some fans feel undermines his legacy.

  5. Mitsuki: While not a character from the original series, Mitsuki's portrayal in "Boruto" has been viewed by some as lacking depth. His potential as a unique character rooted in the lore of "Naruto" hasn't been fully explored.

Overall, the criticisms often stem from the way these characters have been written in "Boruto," with fans feeling that their earlier complexities and strengths have not been adequately honored or developed in the sequel series.

  1. Naruto Uzumaki : Everbody’s hero from Naruto and Naruto Shippuden is shown like a total waste here, his new chakara clock is horrific don't know why makers are not able to look at this bad chakara clock(they should look at the one in shippuden). Naruto is shown totally weak, he lacks in speed and what not to say.

  2. Sasuke Uchiha : The most high valued character from naruto to shippuden, is shown here a total jerk, he has no more the character attitude, for which he was highly valued, he is always low on chakar. His susano is also shown very weak in the last fight with Jigen. He with a saringan and a rinnegan was defeated very easily at multiple occucasions in the Boruto series and manga, Momoshiki also managed to destroy his rinnegan and what else to say.

  3. Orochimaru : Though not much seen, but seems like Amado is taking a lead here making genetically/scientifically bodies.

  4. Shino : One of the most intelligent character from naruto is shown a total useless here. He the one who use to control insects, and managed to defeat high ranks in 4th great ninja war, is shown as a teacher here who was easy defeated by children who just joined the academy.

Note: Power level of all young characters like Boruto, Sarada etc are shown much-2 high here, they are learning new jutus and gaining new powers on just a click and no with much of a training. Character build-up is very- very weak here, and naruto fans are having hard time connecting this new generation.

Chojuro and Kurotsuchi were pretty much ruined, since they were shown to struggle against rebels from their own villages. One might argue that Chojuro took those injuries willingly, but it still seemed rather unnecessary. Now, I realize that Chojuro is always willing to take a (non-lethal) hit in order to land a better hit of his own, but I have doubts about whether he had to do that kind of thing in that fight.

Naruto and especially Sasuke were definitely ruined in the manga, since they had so many abilities that they weren’t able to show in their fights against Jigen and Isshiki, but the anime drove home the point that they simply weren’t given that many chances to try different things—they were beaten to a pulp very quickly. And it’s likely that whatever they tried wouldn’t have mattered anyway against a guy like that.

But one of the biggest one is Rock Lee I think. In the anime, he confronted Isshiki alongside Konohamaru, Tenten, Kiba, and Choji. While Isshiki was able to swat them down like flies, Rock Lee didn’t even open any of the Inner Gates. You’d think that he would have opened the 6th Gate at least, but no.

all the top characters and ninja’s form naruto are just ruined in boruto, they are nerfed so much that they are a joke Naruto has forgotten half of his abilities, he uses hundreds of clones all the time……except when an important fighting is happening. Then for some reason he just doesn’t…..?

Naruto: made into a senile old man behind racks of filework. Nerfed him by making Kurama a Kamikaze. Made him insignificant for an Ootsutsuki. Isshiki, even as Jigen. An incomplete vessel with a fraction of his original power didn't even bother him until he is hit with baryon mode.

Sasuke: Gifted with the most powerful dojutsu in existence (until jougan was introduced an we still know nothing about it. Duh! 😒) and was nerfed by momoshiki when his guard was down. But even then. Did he use his dojutsu to it's heavy potential. No! He always cries on low battery.

Orochimaru: supposed to be a Trump card on Ootsutsuki science. Replaced by Amado. A nobody who has no chakra but knows everything more than anyone in the series.

Rock Lee: His sensei went supernova against a being with Ootsutsuki powers and able to stall him until Naruto and Sasuke took over. Did nothing against Isshiki and was defeated easily offscreen.

He was a symbol for hardwork in the OG series, wasted in Shippuden and converted to trash in Boruto.

Basically it was down to clash between wannabe Ootsutsuki now. With a little bit of Amado science here and there. Even hand signs are going extinct.

Sasuke was ruined because of how they made him an absent father and not be around for his wife. Growing up Sasuke craved the attention of his father because he favored Itachi. You'd think he would be determined to do right by his own child and be better than his father.

He can create portals. There is no reason he can't explore those other dimensions and not come home to tuck his daughter into bed

Why not have him become chief of the police force in Konoha? It was his dream as a child so why not? Could give him something to do while being a family man.

It's the same as Naruto not having his shadow clones handle that paperwork so he can spend time with his family. Just stupid reasons to create tension.

Sasuke is just made stupid when it’s convenient for the boruto plot instead of being the smart character that always keeps his cool

Basically every single Naruto character has been ruined. They should have just made another ninja series, not related to Naruto for that dumb story-line. I hate Kishimoto for allowing this.

Konohamaru is very useless and has less screentime right now. He lost a lot of fights and burned up. I don't know why they made him “trash" but I know that he doesn't deserve this. I miss the little konohamaru who killed a Pain :(.

all of them except Naruto, Sasuke and Shikamaru. Theyre the only important shinobi (you can argue Sai).

Shino is a corny and quite lame instructor, Kiba is a DOG STORE OWNER, Tenten is forever alone running a ninja tool store that noone goes to, Ino runs a flower shop, Sakura is the house mom who occasionally does medical stuff (maybe you can make a case for her), Hinata who is quite literally the only Hyuga left who had a capability to fight who also mastered her own gentle fist technique and could have become one of the best taijutsu kunoichi in existence is now just a housewife, Choji does Choji things and eats but now doesnt do anything of importance really and Kakashi… well… he legit running around as a photographer doing shenanigans in his “retirement”. Theres only a handful of them left that are even remotely similar to how they were at the end of the Naruto series.

That’s why so many people detest Boruto.

Me personally I understand their approach. Its not supposed to be Naruto 2: Boruto. They’ve dumbed the OG cast down to how shinobi were during Naruto.

Think of it this way, if there were a whole series about Minato and it ended with him sacrificing himself to save Naruto that would be an awesome concept. We would meet many many shinobi who be a badass like Madara, the 1st/2nd/3rd hokage (moreso than in Naruto, as the 1st and wnd hokage really are just implied to be OP but never really got to know them much), all of the Sennin more than in Naruto, more of the Uchiha clan with Shisui etc… but if they continued that with Naruto: Next Generations, people would be PISSED. 3rd Hokage is now an old dude who doesn’t do crap until Oro attacks, Tsunade drinks

the whole Uchiha clan is now all of a sudden gone and the main character is a dunce who runs around trying to get everyones attention.

Yamato - man is just a baby sitter. Orochimaru - super villain that committed biological atrocities, invaded the village, killed the hokage, yet he can work from home with no consequences Konohamaru - Naruto’s disciple, took down a pain at age 12/13, now is always getting whopped Rock Lee - Gai sensei’s disciple, now barely even does anything

It’s not that old characters are bad is just the new characters suck and storyline is not as dark. It’s not Naruto(esque) per say

I'll argue that Naruto and Sasuke's characters were ruined

Sasuke became very complacent with how things are despite the other elders (that also okay'ed the massacre of his clan) still being on the council advising the Hokage. Itachi's sacrifice and the village's decision to eradicate the clan are also covered up completely. He spent all this time being an "avenger" but only really ended up killing Danzo, which doesn't even change anything.

I understand he wants to "atone" but Sasuke genuinely wasn't even that bad compared to some other characters. Gaara literally made it rain blood during the Chunin exams. Sasuke's worst sins were killing Samurai that he told not to fight him, Danzo, attempting to kidnap Bee, and harming Karin. I think it was right for him to try and make up for it but the fact that he had a daughter that he's never around (like Naruto, his parents not being around also tore him up) is nonsense.

Naruto, who also had so much pain from not having his parents around, doesn't even attend his children's birthday parties in person. That point has been beaten to death so I won't go any further, but Naruto promised Nagato that he'd help fix the Rain village and it's still terrible there. The damage from Jiraiya's death isn't even cleaned up. He had to be reminded of how they were doing before he even made an effort.

Thoughts on boruto tbv chapter 20

Posted by Large_Whereas_431 · in r/Boruto · 6 months ago

Solid chapter 8 , basically this arc is going as I predicted. I honestly like how ikemoto displayed emotion into that scene flipping back and forth with shimimaru flashback . This is what people wanted to see like I said in another post I hope studio period changed that one scence from last chapter over him losing it because of the Chan thing that felt very out of character for him and a jounin in general .I knew this would be Sarada's ms debut arc, where she gets her moment, paralleling Sakura Chiyo Kazekage Retrieval arc, which was one of the dopest moments in Shippuden . With that being said, I don't expect her to win; realistically, she's untrained and winging it on instinct . I do expect her, with the help of Mitsuki, to put pressure on Ryu, selling the audience on her potential.

Personally, I'm sold on Himawari and Sarada; they both have a high ceiling. Sarada could later get EMS or, through science, a Rinnegan, and if Ikemoto and Kishimoto want her to parallel Naruto, she could also a debut Slug Sage Mode- which would be welcomed-but also become the jinchuriki of the Six-Tails, which is a slug . This pays homage to Naruto and Sakura because it is her summoning animal. As for Himawari, it's obvious she'll get a Tenseigan. I feel like " Naruto : The Last" literally set that up , additional things she could stack learning the byukago seal and embracing that Uzumaki lineage, and somehow sustaining a Baryon Mode- like state. The point I'm making is that the female cast is in good hands based on the first 20 chapters of TBV because their set up to be fighters with high ceilings to warrant screen time .

Back to Chapter 20, another part of my prediction is Konohamaru's Sage debut; we need this. It's obvious he isn't going to die. Basically, all that happened was Konohamaru's sneak attack left Moro shinju bloodlusted due to betrayal. If Ikemoto /Kishimoto wanted to kill him off they would have ard done so but instead , their setting him up for a big fight , which I'm excited for because he needs something to scale him up to a Shinjū, which only leaves one thing Sage mode .

Also, I need Gaara at some point to get freed; Sarada could literally get rid of Shinki's barrier so he could go out swinging, where he, Sarada , Mitsuki , and Arya will end up coming up short, leading him to get absorbed by Ryu. We'll finally get questioned answers about what happens when a Shinjū kills their target. Last but not least, after everybody is on death's door, I have No Limiter Kawaki making his debut, which was set up in Chapters 15-18, similar to how Boruto saved Himawari /Sarada in Chapter 12. No Limiter Kawaki is probably Ishiki level; this will be the debut of what we thought he was going to be from Chapter 1, which Ikemoto /Kishimoto alluded to-his time is coming.

Konohamaru will put on a great effort, but his imperfect sage mode despite how powerful will have glaring weakness like Naruto in the Pain arc, his sage mode will run out. Once that happens , Kawaki will come up clutch and display his dominance, forcing her to retreat, and he'll do the same to Ryu; his dojutsu can shrink his whole kit, completely nerfing his kit . If everything plays out like this for me personally, I would rate it over the first 12 chapters of TBV, if not as good, which is a win either way because it shows the side cast can carry an arc.

My top five things I would take from this arc if it plays out like this and why it could potentially surpass the first 12 chapters it establishes the Shinjū as a threat that must be neutralized, because if they grow in numbers, it will definitely be humanity's demise, and this is build-up for Konoha's destruction which will be boruto pain invasion arc . The second thing it would do is give Team 7 dope moments, with fans putting stocks in them, seeing their potential. Third, we see Kawaki establish himself as an asset, a true rival to Boruto; he may be weaker than Boruto or on par, I don't know, but it will be more respectable. Fourth, we get one of many questions answered: what happens when a Shinjū kills their target? Fifth, last but not least , killing Gaara would establish the darker tone this series needed badly . Yodo, who may not be dead, isn't enough to move the audience; we didn't get familiar with her character outside of this arc, but Gaara, a legendary character, will hit differently because OG fans bought into his character. He is one of the better-developed characters in the franchise, and seeing the OG Konoha reaction for a chapter, along with other Kages, siblings, and the Sand Village, will really drive home that these threats are no joke and that they have an impact on characters.

One of my favourite parts was also jura unkowingly crying and hidari catching notice😂 Seems jura cares about the shinju on a personal level

But of course, the highlight has to be the slow build up into that MS🔥the MS design ties really with her black hole ability as it resembles closely to a star collapsing into a black hole and I can tell its going to be pretty OP in future

Oorochimaru: supposed to be a Trump card on Ootsutsuki science.

Theyve dumbed the OG cast down to how shinobi were during Naruto.

The Konoha 12 and Sasuke. They nerfed the heck out of all of them (or if not nerfed, they were fodder-ized into oblivion).

Pretty much any entity from the original series is make stupider and weaker.

Many of them do not even act like themselves. I think Naruto might be the most egregious example. You have a character who suffered constant emotional pain because they didn't have parental figures and were envious of those who had that kind of support network but becomes an absentee father anyway. Even if we ignore power scaling completely, the characterization is so far off the mark is feels worse than some fan fiction.

The powerscaling is just laughable. By the end of the main series, Naruto and Sasuke are fighting literal gods. You have veterans of the Great Ninja Wars getting dummies by school children. It's laughable.

I get that the new protagonists need to be engaging and cool. There are ways to write them in a way that doesn't do a disservice to original material. It feels like they were trying to copy the formula for Naruto but never realized the environment and supporting cast (which includes the main characters from the original series) are so significantly different that some form of original thought might be required.

We still get some cool fight scenes, and there's a couple moments where the original cast are made the shine, which is nice, but it feels like they could have done that without having to diminish them throughout the rest of the series.

While a very different show, I think something like how Young Justice did it, where the big names DC heroes are busy on their own missions and have bullseyes on them because of their fame, which gives the younger protagonist a place dealing with smaller scale threats directly and perform more clandestine missions that don't draw the attention of some villains. The protagonists in that show end up developing their own roster of nemeses and fighting world ending threats in their own right, but Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc. aren't made to feel stupid or weak in comparison; they have a different role the play in the background, setting the stage for the protagonists to shine without being diminished by their presence.

“The main character is a dunce who runs around trying to get everyone’s attention.” Is that not the best possible description of Naruto from the beginning of part 1? And it’s not like Boruto doesn’t grow from that too, he’s like that for maybe 6 chapters (granted the anime starts earlier chronologically so that isn’t until like episode 40).

Yea but I’m old now so I see it from the perspective of the people trying to get him to stop making them climb the damn statue to clean the paint off. So now, boruto is doing that type of shit again and I’m just normal Squidward annoyed at him.

Then, on TOP of that, they made a SEQUEL to a series I liked, so I have to shit on it because it isn’t a reprint of the first one.
