In summary, Ryu is indeed a part of Street Fighter 6, and he remains a central figure for both new and experienced players looking to master the game's fundamentals.
I grew up playing a lot of fighting games in arcades, but when things went online, I stopped and haven't really touched it since. Don't know why I originally picked up SF6 but it's been lots of fun. I started with Zangief and jumped on Ryu after learning more combos. It's been a wild ride, labbing and learning about +/-, meaties, etc... Truthfully, it's still all too much for me to grasp even at a moderate level yet. I'm very proud of it though, more so than I thought I would be haha. I'm kicking myself for not taking a screenshot when I did rank up and missing that! I was too busy celebrating haha.
The true Journy just started. Nows the Master rating grind.
First of all: Congrats.
Second of all: Dont get discouraged by the almost inevitable drop in MR, after reaching Master Rank. Keep in mind that 1500MR isnt supposed to be for fresh Masters, which came out of Diamond recently. Its just how the Elo-Like system works, so you will probably lose a lot in the beginning, to find your true MR Rank. Which is fine!
Just a reminder to everyone to turn on steam screen recording. Even if you forget to screenshot something, it saves the last 2 hours of gameplay, you can go back and make a clip or even take a screenshot of any moment.
Totally replaced GeForce Experience for me after Nvidia crapped out and stopped working.
Congrats. Achieved mine today too. I need to spend time to the boring stuff in training now
Congrats to you too. I've been enjoying the 1400-1550 range I'm going against. Lose 4, win 2. Still a net negative but no reason to jump into training mode yet I think.
Do we go back down to diamond if we hit 1399?
Guys ryu is arguably broken right wtf
Looking big Nick 💪😎
Thanks man!
Looking strong!
I've noticed you doing weighted cossack squats a lot. I have trouble with them unweighted, so imagining with heavy weight is... a stretch (lol). The mobility mostly is the issue.
Why do you program them, and did you have a lot of work to do to achieve them with heavy weight? What was the progression like?
Thank you!
I like them mostly because I saw Goku doing them in DBZ when I was a kid. The mobility to hit better range of motion took some time, mostly weigh goblet style weighted stretches at the lowest bottom position I could hold for 30+ seconds. Once I could hit those comfortable with a light load in front of me (I think like less than 25 lb), I started progressing in loads. I vary it reps with load depending on the week just to change the preparedness/fun factor. For example, last week was a single 32 kg bell instead for sets of 5/5 without alternating between legs.
I like them because they train the legs in the frontal plane, and get some good hypertrophy work for the glute medius which don't really get hit with bilateral squats. They also hit the inner thigh muscles pretty well too.
That's some heavy club work
Excellent work
Dude you are getting jacked
Just absolute disrespect from Ryu.
Some notes:
This manga is not canon.
I took these images on my phone camera from the physical manga, I've cropped out parts where you can see the other page as best I can, but I haven't got the hang of photographing books.
The fight is genuinely over this quickly.
Foreshadowing SF6 Ryu's damage
IIRC this manga started out with Ken winning SF3 (like actually beating Gill easy) to show how far he'd come and how Ryu needed to get his shit together. This is him getting his shit together before fighting Akuma.
I've always found it weird that Alex is the one who seemingly wins SF3. The stakes of SF3 are so low lol. Dude is like "Gill beat up my father, so I'm going to beat him up!"
Like, no one dies, It's just pure old fashioned squabbling for the sake of squabbling. I haven't played through all of WT yet, but I wonder if they're going to continue that illuminati shit in a later update of SF6 or something because we don't have Gill, Urien, or Kolin yet.
I just don't know if Alex has main protagonist energy tbh.
I think luck played a factor in him winning SF3. Apparently Oro had defeated Ryu and Ken dropped out, leaving the two biggest threats out of the tournament. I think Oro just leaves as well or something.
If they were planning on putting him over, I would have Alex beat Ken in the semi-final and then have either Ryu win in the final or have Alex win in a really long drawn out match or something. Instead he loses to Ryu and then nothing really happens with him after that. Be interesting to see what SF6 does though.
I don't think it was an easy win, there's a few pages where Ken is on the ground, almost knocked out I think. But yeah he does beat Gill. And Alex as well.
Ryu is something else 😅
Ryu Final is so good Capcom is still cribbing from it over 20 years later. God I wish the game writing was anywhere near as good as Masahiko Nakahira‘s works.
Some Street Fighter media are quite bloody and dark. For instance, Street Fighter Alpha the animation has some of them.
Rosanov felt more like the villain of a slasher movie.
He used his Focus Attack from SF4. It causes crumple on hit, makes sense.
Just foreshadowing SF4 10 years before it released.
Only 1 of these to KO Ken is wild
Ryu bias on the penciling team is strong with this comic.
This manga shows how NASTY is Shun Goku Satsu. To the point that, to defend, >!Ryu let's himself GETTING HIS CHEST PIERCED from part to part ('cause it was the less of two evils)!<
He wrote Sakura Ganbaru too, which literally created Karin Kanzuki (they liked her so much they put her into the games).
For the sixteenth and tenth teams, the rule is that teams have at least one original SFII and/or SFIII character as a team member
Rules:
(in the case of free theme teams, add the reason for choosing the 3 characters specifically)
Only characters from the Street Fighter, Final Fight, Slam Masters, Captain Commado and Rival Schools universe will be allowed, the only exception will be if they have themes involving crossover(Suggested characters need to be fighters or have solid mentions that they know/want to fight)
The suggestion must be from the 3 characters that will be the team, comments with two or just one character will not count
The team will be chosen by the comment with the most upvotes, please do not downvote comments other than yours and if someone has already commented on their idea for a team, upvote that person's comment to increase the team's chances of being added

I am a new street fighter 6 player! This is my first fighter game, so I am completely lost where I need to focus and learn. I am playing Ryu because I have heard he is an awesome character to pick up and learn fundamentals. I am not familiar with the terminology nor do I know any combos or things I should be looking out for in a fight. I will say I do know the basics of light, medium and heavy punch/kick. I have tried to find good material to learn but it's mostly talking about combos which I cannot perform. If there is any fundamental stuff I should learn on Ryu (Like his bread and butter) I will gladly read your comments!
Obligatory sharing of Core-A-Gaming's "Why Button Mashing Doesn't Work".
Despite the title, this video quickly morphs into one of the most concise primers on fighting game fundamentals,
Also, I just want to say that the Story mode in SF6 is well worth playing if you're extremely new. A lot of the mini-games and challenges are designed around getting you to interact with the mechanics of the game, and also, it's just one of the most enjoyable single player modes available in a fighting game.
While learning to fight the CPU is generally speaking not great practice for learning how to beat human opponents, right now your issues are likely more about just feeling comfortable moving around and pressing buttons, and this is a much less stress-inducing mode to learn that, and certainly much more fun than spending 100 hours in Practice mode.
I recommend that if you know Spanish (or at least you are willing to read the subtitles) you watch the Sh4rin series with Alexelcapo in which they teach Alex how to play fighting games. It can help you because they teach in a very comfortable way about the fundamentals, Alex learns using Ryu and it is a pretty fun series. So if you want to learn how to play without feeling so “pressured” by all the information you have to learn, then that series is a good starting point (you reach at least platinum but almost certainly with what you can learn there)
Make sure you go through Ryu's character trials.
Lots of videos on Ryu for BNB. Another resource is SuperCombo. The Fighting Game Glossary will help you with terminology.
For fighting game basics:
If you distill them down, rock is attack, paper is block, scissors is throw. Treat them like RPS. A common mistake is everyone tries to throw rock constantly because they are just mashing buttons. Throw paper and try to experiment when you can throw rock. If they are blocking, throw scissors.
For the light, medium, and heavy attacks, remember spacing is a part of that. Light is fast and close, heavy usually is slow and has range, and medium is the in-between.
And most importantly have fun. It's still a game and don't get discouraged. It's better to focus on improving rather than winning.
I hope this helps, good luck, and welcome to the FGC.
Thank you for your advice! Also where can I access the glossary and SuperCombo?
Just look them up, it’s not hard to find
Work on 4 things:
If you master this 4 things, you'll get to gold. I know it, because I did it, without knowing a single combo.
Good luck and have fun!
>If he jumps, anti-air. And they will jump. Always.
Can confirm. I can flashkick someone six times in a row and they will still jump in a seventh time expecting me not to be ready for a jump.
"He's crouching and not Moving... Maybe he fell asleep ?"
Ooooooh, maaan! If you master this 4 things, you can easily get to master. No joking:) Ppls always jump and DI's you. Just learn 1 combo, and use this 4 rules,GG You reach master rank.
Amazing advice but one small caveat
Im 2 time master and working on my 3rd, I still cant react to DI lol
You realize a beginner is going to have no idea what a DI is....
This is less about Street Fighter 6 specifically as I haven't played 6 in years, and more philosophy on getting started in fighting games generally: No shade to Ryu, but if another character calls to you more (for any reason, like their design is more appealing or you saw a clip from another character you thought was sick or whatever) and the ONLY reason you went with Ryu is because you think he's best for fundamentals, I'd encourage you to pursue whichever other character on the roster you find more interesting. You're more likely to stick with it and have fun if you're learning a character who speaks to you instead of a character you're only playing because you think of him as a kind of "tutorial". You can learn essential, universal skills and concepts on any character.
That said, if there isn't one who grabs you like that and you're just interested in getting started with SF6, or Ryu really is that character for you, great! I'm a big fan of his myself so I'm certainly not trying to discourage you from playing him specifically.
Well I love SF6 and it's my first fighting game where I actually invested time and effort. Started from Bronze and after months and months became Master with Ryu. Thought I'd make an appreciation post!
Congrats on your achievement for getting to Master Rank. Im on the same journey with Bison. Im stuck at Diamond Lvl#1.
Keep on grinding.
Welcome to fighting games bro and congrats!

Poison and Cody are ones I'd love to see, and feel have a fairly good chance of getting in. Broadly though, I'd be down with adding any Final Fight character except Abigail.
Hugo and Poison
Haggar
Poison, Cody, maybe Haggar as well just to finally see it happen. SF6 really needs some Final Fight representation, it's weird that a game set in Metro City has nobody yet.
The fateful.l9ng awaited day is here. By far the most requested character in the matchup mastery series. Its time to beat up.some Ryu's!
How to beat Ryu: don't get hit and don't try to punish
Lol, i mean close enough xD
So in one of the clips with ryu doing the dragon rain type move, in the beginning I noticed muramasa’s statue. I might be a little late seeing this, but is this possible we will have more weapons for ryu? Will he have new weapons? Will we have a revamp of some of the weapons he used in previous games? What do you guys think?
I fully believe Ryu is going to have multiple weapons and they are keeping them secret because He is the second half of the game. I hope the claws end up skipping this game for the tonfa if my cope comes true.
This 110%. I think they're going to copy the DMC5 formula. Not in the sense that they're trying to clone the gameplay, but that they're going to give us enough Ryu that it could function as its own stand-alone game.
if they do what they did w/vergil in DMC5, hopefully they give us a bunch of diff cutscenes from his viewpoint
DMC5 cheaped on that
Exactly. Ryu will have more weapons but a lot of the fans are not willing to accept it, and I understand why (looking at you NG3)
But TN is hiding his weapons as a surprise. They already know that all Ryu fans are buying the game regardless. They will either reveal the weapons during one of the upcoming gaming events, or a few weeks right before launch. It will generate more hype that way.
I found it weird if they decide to withhold the information. If Ryu has multiple weapons, it should be the highlight. I will wait and see.
The nightmare scenario is that they turn Ryu's weapons into DLC :(
Ryu is basically the girl chapters. Don’t get your hopes up
Didn't they already say that Ryu only has only slightly less missions than yakumo?
No, they said Yakumo has more missions, but that Ryu's role "isn't pinpoint"
The confusion a lot of folks had was that the interviewer asked 'so it's 50/50' and they clarified 'there's more Yakumo, but Ryu's role isn't small' - so a lot of folks thought they said it would be 50/50, or that it would be almost 50/50. But currently - we don't know; we just know that there's more Yakumo.
Hopefully team ninja proves this wrong but we will see
I think people are just skeptical because the circumstances of how this game even exists is vastly different from everything that came before.
Team Ninja apparently doesn't have it in them to work on an NG4 (Souls-pilled) and Platinum while they made good games haven't in a while and their style is very different. It being a collaborative thing backed by Microsoft makes the chances of a newer Sigma or Black type edition not as clear cut and guaranteed. All 3 companies would have to agree on it versus TN doing it on their own terms.
They noted that Ryu will use dragon-statues to buy items and do optional challenges, so this is either used for weapon upgrades, or is just a novelty. Don't forget we also had dragon-statues 'return' in NG3 and it was just a scenery piece; could be that too.
At this point I'm fully accepting of the fact he'll just have the katana, which still weirds me out since his entire moveset and animations seem pulled from Razor...so why not pull the other animation data? Is it not made compatible with the Platinum engine? Or are they really waiting to pull the old money scheme....
Honestly, I'd be down for capcom to have another go at 2d Jin or Kazuya, though the idea of a modern input electric would probably infuriate a lot of people lmao
Modern input players still need to hit the small window for perfects on Luke and Guile
Can someone explain this to me? I feel like I often see people glazing over EWGF. Is there some sort of incredibly tight window for you to execute the move? On paper, it's just 6523p, which is... just a DP with 5? For some players, I imagine their DP input already looks like that. Is it because Tekken doesn't include many motion inputs, so this one is harder to execute than most moves in Tekken? Surely these Tekken players have experience in other fighting games where this is just a standard input?
Ewgf is Electric Wind God Fist, it's +5 on block. The two main difficulties are 1. You can't buffer the input at all, so to do it in tight situations you have to be really on point, and 2. You have to do the last directional input and punch on the exact same frame, otherwise you get regular, non-electric, Wind God Fist, which is -10 on block (punishable by jab strings).
Tbh, in the modern day with leverless, it's really not that difficult. Doing it quickly and consistently on an arcade stick is pretty hard and that's where the respect for it originates from.
The closest we gave to 2d Kaz or Jin outside of SFxT is funnily enough omega sf4 Dan, they gave him a ewgf/wgf input. Do it perfect and it launches, imperfect doesn’t launch or it doesn’t allow for any combos. I love omega Dan
Omega was so much fun
but then probably modern would not get the electric, I'm pretty sure modern doesn't get perfect boom for guile
as it should that would be sacrilege there is a limit
SFXT was over 10 years ago
Now I want Jin as a playable character next season.
The people yearn for more Street Fighter x Tekken
Season 5 leak.
