TL;DR
Honey Turmeric Masks
Honey and turmeric masks are frequently recommended for reducing the appearance of acne scars. These ingredients have anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe skin and reduce redness [1:1]. While not a cure-all, they can be an accessible option for those seeking DIY solutions.
Rosehip Oil and Other Oils
Rosehip oil is praised for its ability to lighten acne scars and hyperpigmentation. Users report significant improvements in their skin's texture and tone after regular application [3:2]
[4:3]. Other oils such as maracuja, tea tree, lavender, and vitamin E oil are also suggested for their healing properties
[3:1]
[4:1]
[4:4].
Aloe Vera and Green Tea
Aloe vera is another natural remedy that can aid in scar healing due to its soothing and moisturizing qualities [4:1]. Green tea, known for its antioxidant properties, may also help in reducing inflammation and promoting skin repair
[4:1].
Sunscreen Use
Consistent use of sunscreen is vital when dealing with acne scars. Sunscreen prevents further darkening of scars and helps protect sensitive skin from UV damage [5:2]. It's recommended to use a minimum SPF 30 daily and reapply every two hours if exposed to sunlight
[3:4].
Additional Tips
For those looking for more intensive treatments, microneedling dots like Peace Out can aid in reducing hyperpigmentation [5:1]. Additionally, maintaining a gentle skincare routine and avoiding irritation can prevent new scars from forming
[2:5]. While some suggest exploring professional treatments at med spa schools for discounted rates, caution is advised due to potential risks

Hey everyone! I am 22f and I am having the worse breakout of my life. I have pimples in my cheek areas and they are leaving very noticeable scars. It's honestly taking a toll on my self confidence especially because people somehow love pointing it out.
Why am I looking for natural remedies you ask? I live in a province and we live away from pharmacies. I am unemployed because of the pandemic (which may have caused stress and triggered my breakout) and I don't have enough money to order anything online.
I hope you guys can help me out. Thank you in advance!
If they are true scars I.e. changes in skin texture and not just dark/red marks then unfortunately there’s little that you can do apart from perhaps a vitamin A derivative, though even then the improvement is likely to be modest and take a while to see

If it’s the red marks left behind some people find honey turmeric masks help. You can just google honey tumeric mask and similar recipes will come up.The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin is not a natural remedy but it’s quite cheap and you could order online.
Here is my tips! You have to avoid irritation, if it’s irrited , it will leave dark spots that take months to fade . So right after i pop a pimple, i would desinfect it and apply some calming cream /serum on it for a while , then put a pimple patch on it . I would change the pimple patch 1 time per day, after i shower. Then I apply skincare normally, on the scar, i would put on healing /calming serum to keep it moist( i find cosrx snail mucin is the best for it) , then i put the pimple patch on . The key is to put the patch on when it’s still lightly wet, scars heal better when it’s moist.
It has already left a dark spot, what do I do now
Azealic acid and vitamin c! I find local chemicals peel is effective too ( TO red serum).
Usually, it would fade like 70% after 2- 3 days . Then after it , you might not need the pimple patches anymore, with vitamin c/niacinamide/ snail mucin/calophylle oil, the rest would fade quickly. My favorite combination is calophylle oil and snail mucin mixed together. But i do have vitamin c and tranexamic acid in my routine so i guess it does help.
Can you give me the link to all those products
Vitamin C, snail, niacinimide
Sunscreen and time
Tranexamic acid, consistent, frequency and time.
I’ve bumped up my niacinamide to a 10 percent solution and it works really well for fading acne scars. Also, ubiquinone and resveratrol are tremendously effective. Neogen micro essence serum has both, and it noticeably fades old scars fast.
Specifically, if anyone has any natural remedies to help get rid of them, I’d love to hear what has worked for you guys! Or products that have worked well for you guys. My skin is finally clearing up but it’s leaving the red marks behind. I’m trying to stay away from expensive procedures though. Thanks!
Rose Hip Oil!
Never heard of this oil! Where is a place I could buy it? And is it ok to use for skin that tends to be a little more oily? When/how often would you recommend to apply it? Thanks!
I have oily skin as well. I apply 2-3 drops max after my face serum and before my moisturizing cream.
I’ve been loving this organic cold pressed rose hip oil from The Ordinary. I hope this is helpful!
every time i use retinol my acne marks are a lot lighter in the morning! use sunscreen during the day if u use retinol.
I don’t know how natural is natural enough for you, but glycolic acid will work quicker than probably anything else along with using sunscreen (minimum spf 30 everyday)
Glycolic acid is plant derived and you can get vegan options too which tend to go more down the “green” route. Drunk elephant don’t use chemicals that are commonly seen as bad but they are quite pricey!
For SPF I am pretty oily and my HG is La Roche Posay anthelios xl dry touch gel cream. Make sure you’re using enough to get adequate protection. I use about 5-6 pumps for my face and neck.
Maracuja oil at night!
Where would I go about buying that? And I tend to have a bit more oily skin, do you think it would still work?
Amazon- it’s just for application at night and it doesn’t take much so I’m sure you’ll be fine!
I have very sensitive skin and just barely started developing acne scars. I desperately want them gone or at least much lighter.
I know practically nothing about how to heal acne scars and I don’t trust most products out there because of how sensitive my skin is.
Any good advice, beauty reddit?
I use the Derma E scar gel on my face as my last step in my night routine, and it has helped my scars heal more quickly time and time again after breakouts.
Just for reference, I have very reactive and sensitive skin that is finally clear after years of hormonal breakouts, thanks to finding natural products that work for me.
Otherwise, make sure you're moisturizing well at night and, as others have said, facial oils can help a lot too, including those with rosehip oil!
10/10 would recommend rosehip oil. I had really bad acne and I saw a big difference in my scars and hyperpigmentation.
Oh, i’ve never heard of that oil before and I use lots of essential oils! Thank you so much for the advice!
It’s not really an essential oil.
I also recommend Vitamin E oil! I used to have very bad acne and was left with lots of dark scars. After using Vitamin E oil in place of moisturizer for a couple years, my scars are pretty much gone. I wouldn’t recommend replacing moisturizer with oil to everyone, I’d advise you to dab a bit onto your scars with a cotton swab or something.
The ordinary vitamin F and C serum (not exactly sure the exact name) but it’s a black bottle with a dropper and says Vitamin F on it
Witch hazel
Tea tree oil
Green tea
Lavender oil
Aloe vera
I would only use these if you have oily skin! I am very dry and using essential oils right on the face (even diluted) is a one way ticket to flake-town for me.
Have you tried
Helichrysum oil
Carrot Seed Oil
Ylang Ylang Oil
Rose oil
Jojoba oil
Lavender helps all skin types not just dry skin
You need to look into this, but Derma rolling is great. Check out YouTube videos for before and after results. I have used a Derma roller and it really works wonders.
I (30F) have acne scars from uncontrollable acne in my 20’s. Hyperpigmentation and some pitted scarring on very pale skin. I know all about chemical peels, lasering, all the things. But I am not in a financial position where I can afford these currently.
My current skin care regimen is La Roche Posay Facewash, moisturizer and retinol serum. This is what works best for my skin after a decade of trial and error.
Is there anything out there I could try to visibly reduce the scarring at home? I know there’s no miracle product out there, and in office treatments are the best but if there’s something I CAN do to help, I would love to add it to my routine.
Thanks! 🙏
Do u use sunscreen in the morning?
Yes, it’s in my moisturizer and makeup :)
That’s really not enough you need at least SPF 50 if you’re using a retinol serum, in addition sunscreen should be reapplied every 2 hours you’re outside. This is why your acne scars aren’t fading. I recommend the skin1004 sunscreen, it’s very lightweight.
Sorry. Your products are great. Find a med spa school where they train on lasers, skin care treatments. Volunteer to be a model. You will get free or discounted treatments. The students are strictly monitored by teachers. Good luck!
Laser on your face is not something you want at a discounted rate or done by a student. My mom, who works in medical malpractice, has all the horrific burn cases where the person is permanently disfigured from exactly this
Yes, this is something that I will save for a professional once I am financially able :)
I'd use Peace Out microneedling dots for dark spots. They really helped me with hyperpigmentation that wouldn't come out with IPL and chemical peels.
Going to try these! Thank you!
Vitamin c serum every morning and spf. Then at night use rosehip oil. You'll see results in between a month and 3 months depending on age because of how fast your skin can renew.
Tretinoin creams, snail mucin essence/gel and sunscreen has worked wonders for me. Scarred a lot due to picking during the teenage years however they've disappeared completely now. This routine will show results within a month or 2 depending on how religiously you follow it. And DO NOT skip the sunscreen if you use a tretinoin cream.
2 months doesn’t sound that bad, thanks!
Rosehip oil helped me :)
+1 for rosehip oil. It really helped to even out my skin tone.
Thanks!
This helped me as well!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Dermarolling.
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is natural and used to treat pih. I recommend checking out https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/pih
There's a ton of great info on here
Thank you! Will do
Of course what works for me won't work for everyone but today I suddenly realized I couldn't see my old acne scars anymore so I thought I'd share what I did! First off, I'm not into lengthy skincare routines, products that have a lot of chemicals, or makeup. I try to have a super simple skincare routine and thankfully this helped heal my scars slowly but surely.
I cut out dairy. (My skin was actually totally fine until this one summer when I didn't have access to the dairy-free food I normally eat and my face blew up with acne, which started the scars.)
I wore sunscreen (veering towards the more natural brands) and hats, because too much sunlight can make the scars worse.
I stopped wearing foundation. I'd use a little bit of concealer if I really needed it for an event but otherwise just sucked it up and went out in public with acne and scars on my face. Surprisingly, this turned into a bit of a confidence boost because not once did anybody point it out or make fun of me, as I had suspected they would. And on the rare occasions that I did wear foundation, I washed it off as soon as I got home.
I adopted a super minimal routine for my skin for the mornings and evenings. Wake up, splash face with warm/hot water, then cold water. Pat dry. Moisturize with a few drops of argan oil (or jojoba). Add some sunscreen if I'm going to be outside a lot. In the evenings, I'd wipe my face clean with a makeup wipe, rinse face with warm/hot water and use a simple face soap bar to wash (The one I have now is by someone local and I forget the name but it smells like roses and was really cheap). Rinse face and splash with cold water. Pat dry. Few drops of argan or jojoba oil, and then I used a Vitamin C serum. This really really helped, a small bottle of Vit. C serum from the health food store isn't crazy expensive and lasts you a couple months, and seriously helped so much with the scars. Just try to put it on only in the evenings because in the daytime it can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. This whole routine is super easy, takes me 2 minutes in the mornings and evenings, and saves me SO much money.
Lots of water. Of course.
This whole process takes a while but is really worth it. I attached a couple pics of me about 2 years ago with post-acne scars and me recently (my skin even looked fine last year, I just really didn't notice how much it had cleared up until this month). I know my skin isn't perfect and could look way better with makeup but I'm pretty happy with the way it is. Hope this is helpful to someone :)
Amla oil . Time will fade them as well!
You look so good - in both pictures! Did you ever have to deal with scars that leave a deep mark? If so how did you treat it?
Nevertheless, proud of your progress! :)
Thank you, that's so sweet! It never got so bad that the marks were super deep but I certainly got a few very small indents from the scars. The vitamin C and occasional exfoliating (I did once or twice a week) helped those lessen a bit and now they're barely noticeable. Thanks again :)
Vitamin C is awesome! BTW you can use it in the day if paired with sunscreen, as Vitamin C also boosts the efficacy of SPF :) I’m also working to get rid of hyperpigmentation, and this has helped for me. Cheers!
Your skin looks beautiful and wonderful job on clearing it up! Ditching dairy was a major help for my skin as well. I do want to say though, there's a big difference between red marks and acne scars. Red marks are post-inflammatory erythema (PIE). Acne scars are indentations, and are treatable by professional services like laser, subcision, filler, chemical peels, etc.
ah, good to know. Clearly Im not very savvy on the terms lol. I had a few mild indentations along with the marks that lessened over time with some occasional exfoliating plus just natural skin regeneration over the last 2 years, but nothing crazy. Thank you for the info :)
I know it’s not the focus of the post but holy shit does your hair look amazing
Ah!! Thanks man!! Made my day :)
Hello Everyone! For context, I'm a 24 y/o woman with combination to oily leaning skin. I never had acne in my entire life, even during my puberty years. I always was blessed with clear, bright skin like all of my maternal family. The past year and more I was stuck in a very very stressful relationship and I finally broke free from the abuse and the torment now. I'm sorry for oversharing, thought it was important to mention it. I developed a lot of acne during my relationship I now have a realisation that this is aggressive and painful (possibly) stress acne. Please help me find some herbal remedies to get my clear skin back. My face full of acne is a reminder to the dark days I've lived in abuse. Having my clear skin back would be a very important step in my mental/emotional healing. Thanks for all the help. 🫶🏻
Hey I’m so proud of you!! That is incredibly difficult to do and yes a stressful relationship can definitely cause all kinds of issues including acne! For spot treatment you can use tea tree oil diluted with a few drops of Jojoba oil. I personally don’t use any other products on my skin, I use a bar of sulfur soap once a day or every other day and jojoba oil in the summer as moisturizer but I need castor in the winter months. I only get the occasional pimple now around my period. But diet really makes a huge difference, cutting out sugar and fast/processed food specifically. And make sure you drink lots of water and try not to touch your face with dirty hands. I’m just throwing out any tips I know at this point, eating lots of fruits and veggies and limiting too much meat and dairy can help clear skin! And destress your body! Healing starts on the inside by developing a nice relationship with yourself and body and shaking out all the bad juju leftover from a relationship like that. Again I’m so proud of you for taking care of you now!! green tea is great for your skin and so is bone broth!
Thank you so much for such kind words, I really needed them. My diet is really good, I don't drink often and I've quit smoking since leaving him. I shall try out your tips and update! Cheers :)
You’re so welcome. That’s really good! I’ve been struggling to quit smoking still, that is insanely hard to do so good for you!! It can also get worse before it gets better so keep hope! :)
He also said to take b complex and vitamin e and avoid all refined foods, sugar, and hydrogenated oils. He recommends pure virgin olive oil and coconut oil. The source of the oil is important. And he says to put a few drops of oregano oil and black seed in a light cream and put it on your face.
Sorry to hear about your stressful relationship. Regarding acne, it can come from many sources:
In his books he recommends 1. Black seed oil, 2. Oregano oil and 3. The body shape diet Adrenal Formula (it’s not a diet, it’s a formula that repairs the adrenal gland and nourishes the endocrine system). You can find the supplements on his site purelywildnatural.com
Thank you, this is very helpful!
I’ve had these since puberty. Wanting to do something about it if anyone has any remedies that helped them before going straight to a dermatologist?
Lactocide acid 12% is probably the best thing for you since it has been probably years. Buy a soap scrub and do that once a week or you can buy a mesh/ net sponge(daily). You also have a lot of acne scars so I'm assuming that you also need Benozole 5%. Kojac acid soap with turmeric, leave it on your skin for 30 sec then wash and if not you can use black soap with the same applied.

Bro just get tattoos at this point.
Glycolic acid may help or niacinamide but be careful with actives, could have poor reaction so spot test first. changing your diet may be a huge help to clear clear up your skin, but sometimes it’s just a lot of genetics and it just may not go away until you get older
It depends on the severity of your scars and what type they are.
If it’s just pigmentation (red marks) then Alpha arbutin and Niacinamide have really helped fade mine. You can get them both from The Ordinary and they’re very affordable.
But I must add to be cautious with the niacinamide and patch test it first. It can break some people out and it did with me, but after using it in small amounts once a week (only on my T-zone); my skin seems to have gotten used to it. Not saying that would be the case with everyone though.
And as someone else suggested, dermarolling/dermapen is also quite good. :)
It depends on what sort of scarring you have.
Indented/textured scarring:
PIE (post inflammatory erythema):
PIH (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation):

Lovely post!

I've had PIE and have had great success with a combo of daily SPF 50, niacinamide (The Ordinary), azelaic acid (The Ordinary), and AHAs (First Aid Beauty Radiance Pads or similar product with lactic & glycolic). Being really gentle with skin, hydrating well, and these treatment products gave me serious results in two months. You can check out my post history (like July 2018 I think) to see a B&A.
This ^
Retin a and dermapen sessions helped me.
Look for ingredients for clarifying skintone and dark spots: white mulberry extracts, vitamin peptides that suppress melanin overproduction which causes dark spots, niacinamide, beta-glucan and allatoin. Mask Moments masks have all of these. I would get on a routine as it takes a long time (about 8 weeks and often more) for many of these types of ingredients to take effect. But if you stay consistent, results will show. All about consistency and patience!
What kind of scars do you have? Unfortunately no OTC product worked for my ice pick scars. Microneedling showed the best results for me!
natural remedies for acne scars
Key Considerations for Natural Remedies for Acne Scars:
Aloe Vera: Known for its soothing properties, aloe vera can help reduce inflammation and promote healing. Apply fresh aloe vera gel directly to the scars and leave it on for about 30 minutes before rinsing.
Honey: Honey has natural antibacterial and healing properties. Use raw honey as a mask on the affected areas for 20-30 minutes to help lighten scars and improve skin texture.
Lemon Juice: The citric acid in lemon juice can help exfoliate the skin and lighten dark spots. However, use it cautiously as it can make your skin sensitive to sunlight. Dilute with water and apply for 10 minutes before rinsing.
Coconut Oil: Rich in fatty acids, coconut oil can help moisturize the skin and promote healing. Apply a small amount to the scars and massage gently.
Vitamin E: Applying vitamin E oil can help improve the appearance of scars. You can either use vitamin E capsules or oil directly on the scars.
Tea Tree Oil: Known for its antibacterial properties, tea tree oil can help reduce inflammation and promote healing. Dilute with a carrier oil before applying to avoid irritation.
Takeaways:
Recommendation: Start with aloe vera or honey for their gentle properties and ease of use. If you have sensitive skin, avoid lemon juice and tea tree oil initially. Always consult with a dermatologist if you have severe scarring or if natural remedies do not yield results.
