Basic Rules and Betting Minimums
Roulette is a game where players place bets on numbers, colors, or combinations on a spinning wheel. Each casino has its own rules regarding betting minimums. Typically, outside bets (such as red/black or odd/even) must meet the table's minimum bet individually, while inside bets can be spread across multiple numbers to meet the total minimum [2:1]
[2:3]. It's important to understand these rules before playing, as they can vary between casinos.
House Edge and Winning Strategies
Roulette inherently favors the house due to the presence of zero(s) on the wheel, which reduces the odds of winning on even-money bets [4:9]. While some players attempt strategies like Martingale or betting patterns, these do not change the house edge and can lead to losses over time
[1:3]
[4:7]. The best advice is to play for entertainment and walk away after a win
[1:2].
Chip Management and Player Identification
To avoid disputes, each player receives different colored chips at the roulette table. These chips are unique to that table and must be exchanged for regular casino chips when done [5:1]
[5:3]. This system helps the dealer and surveillance identify which player placed which bets, reducing the chance of cheating or disputes
[5:7].
Surveillance and Security Measures
Casinos employ various security measures to ensure fair play. Dealers announce "no more bets" before the ball lands, preventing players from changing their bets [5:4]. Additionally, cameras monitor the tables, providing oversight and evidence in case of disputes
[5:8]. Players should be aware that any attempts to alter bets after this point are likely to be caught.
Common Misconceptions
A common misconception is that one can develop a strategy to beat roulette consistently. However, all bets have the same house edge, and no strategy can overcome this in the long run [1:5]
[4:4]. Some players believe that observing the wheel or dealer can provide an advantage, but this is largely unreliable and not recommended
[1:6].
This is a PSA for anyone who thinks they have a strategy or can create a winning strategy for roulette. I've seen videos and reddit posts of people thinking they have found a proven strategy and I can guarantee anyone who thinks they have are wrong. THERE IS NO MATHEMATICAL STRATEGY THAT CAN CREATE A POSITIVE EDGE FOR THE PLAYER. I don't care where you place your bets, there is no combination of any kind that will work and the casino will always have the edge. They're not dumb and no, sorry to tell you or anyone else, you're not Einstein and have somehow been the one to figure out a combination of bets that have cracked roulette. Also please only play single zero / European roulette.
So with that out of the way I can tell you with many years of experience that there is 2 actual ways to have an edge in roulette, and they have to do with physics. But of course these are not guarantee's either.
The roulette wheel spins on bearings and the casino has to occasionally check their roulette wheels and make sure they are perfectly level. As long as its spinning perfectly level then every spin is completely random. But if for any reason the wheel becomes off level enough it can create a small advantage for the player by having balls land in that section of the wheel that is slightly dipped in that direction off level. You would have to track the numbers and see if there is a pattern of a particular part of the wheel that the ball is irregularly landing in. These days this is usually not the case because casinos know that this can create an edge so they make sure they're roulette wheels are always level. But technically if you did find this (which I have once at a casino) you could theoretically have an edge.
I will try to explain this next one as simple as I can. This is also a strategy that I have used successfully many times. In short, if you are at the casino and nobody is at the roulette table (usually late at night or during the work week) you can potentially get an edge. Dealer's are creatures of habit. When the dealer spins the wheel they usually spin it at roughly the same speed every time. They're working and it's just another day for them so it's routine. When they grab the ball and throw it, same thing, it's habit and they're not thinking about it so it's usually the same speed. If you're the only one at the table and you get your bets out fast enough the dealer will not re-spin the wheel and just grab the ball and throw, for at least a few throws. the wheel is going close to the same speed and the dealer is throwing at close to the same speed. if You look at the card that most casino's give you, at times if the dealer is consistent you can start to track a specific section that the ball may potentially land in. It's literally everything to do with the physics of the speed of the wheel and the speed of the ball. BUT this only works at a table by yourself because you don't want to have to wait long between spins and the wheel slows down too much or the dealer has to re-spin the wheel, also it has to be a dealer that is consistent in their motion. And even then it's no guarantee. But I can tell you that it has worked for me many times in the past. I have noticed of recently though that I believe casino's have became wise to this because some dealers re-spin the wheel every time or stop the wheel and spin in reverse. Either of these make this strategy completely unplayable.
Hopefully I explained this well enough, and again physics is the only way to POTENTIALLY get an advantage in roulette but even then it's never a guarantee. Posting this because I don't want anyone wasting their money thinking they have found a mathematical and combination strategy that will work. It won't and you'll eventually lose your money. Hope this helps.
Happy Gambling
The only way to have an edge in roulette – just as in baccarat – is to walk away from the table once you have a relatively big win in the short term (i.e., you beat the odds and won). As long as you stay at that table and keep on playing over the long term, the more the house edge works against you and you will lose your bankroll. Have the inner strength to walk away when the going is good and you will be a winner!
So true! Helpful counsel.
You can still win without having an edge. It comes down to money management and using a leveraged strategy. Play a group of twelve numbers with pays 2-1. If it doesnt hit on the first two spins, double your bet in the Martingale system. Then incrementally increase your bet from there so that when it does hit you get all of the previous bets back plus X. Martingale is a sure loss strategy if played without leverage and if you continue on for too many lost outcomes. But if you just go with the strategy I outlined above you must lose ten times in a row before you get to a serious loss expectation. It is not very often that a table with have 10 straight spins without hitting at least one the numbers in a group of 12.
Money management dictates that you leave if you run into one of those stretches of 10 straight losses. At that point you are risking too much to get back to even. And also you leave after you double your bankroll.
You can run a similar leveraged strategy just playing a street or alley and staying with it for many spins. Work through the minimum bet and how much you need to survive for at least 10 spins to know the correct bankroll size.
Like any other roulette strategy you are going to lose if you play long enough. But I have been able to make money on this just playing patiently and leaving when I am up.
Like any other roulette strategy you are going to lose if you play long enough.
Playing long enough includes playing enough separate sessions. Mathematically there's no difference between playing:
The wheel doesn't know or care what day it is or how long you've been playing. If you keep doing this, you will lose overall because as you've correctly admitted, you don't have an edge with this system.
I guess I was not clear. I do NOT believe you can win longer term. I do believe you can employ effective money management to capture a gain on a session. I think as adults most of us understand that roulette is a negative outcome proposition. If we aspire to play for fun, I have found that my strategy gives a better outcome to do so, without 'putting it all on red' or getting too far over my bet limit chasing losses.
Generally the table min and max is there to ensure the martingale "play" cannot go on forever. For example at my casino a standard sign is 5 min and 500 max. That comes into play around 9 or 10 spins if you kept doubling, but also a very expensive way to ensure a 5 dollar profit if you got close to that level.
The strategy I outlined means you do NOT have to keep doubling every spin and that is why it is viable for a short duration (up to 10 losing spins).
$5 total bet: $5
$5 $10
$8 $18
$10 $28
$15 $43
etc...
You can step it up more if you play more aggressively but you can remain disciplined and still have the expectation to collect a win after each spin without going full out crazy Martingale early in the progression.
I don't believe that you have made money due to point 1 at all, sure, the concept makes sense, but for you to see enough data to know the wheel is wonky (without it being ridiculously obvious to the naked eye) you'd need to watch thousands of spins
Sure you may have made money that session but I dontbelieve you can say you were +EV
I agree with you, that's why I said I only noticed that once in my life. I said that the casinos check that regularly. The point of my post was actually to say that any mathematical, odds based strategy is always nonsense when it comes to roulette. And that the only way you could ever find any potential edge would be physics related i.e. - off level wheel (I only POTENTIALLY noticed once), and a pattern from a dealer due to the physics of speed of the wheel and ball. Really was just wanting people to know and not waste their money listening to someone who says they found a roulette strategy because they don't exist.
Well there is one other, easy way to beat roulette... online promos! I've made around 10k through +EV roulette
i mean yea. if you have an experienced dealer, they don’t close the bets immediately. they spin the ball, give the players a few moments then say “no more bets” if you really want to sit at the table and watch how the wheels spinning and when the dealer releases and try and calculate a small subsection of numbers then play multiple bets all in a matter of 15 seconds… you can get an edge.
for the leveling thing they should be doing that every single day when they open the table so that’s kinda bunk. unless it’s some run down old casino that doesn’t gaf anymore but even then.
Looking back I probably didn't do a good enough job explaining what I meant. In regards to your first point, I meant you go off of the previous number landed. If you can start to pick up a pattern because you're at the table alone, things are moving quickly, the dealer is not re-spinning the wheel than you can look at your card and try to determine what general section the ball may land in due to the pattern and physics of the speed of the wheel and ball. So you would have this information at the moment the previous ball landed. Hope that makes sense. And even then it's no guarantee which I said.
About the leveling I agree. I only noticed this one time in my life, and it was the only thing that made sense. The moral of my post was to say that there is no mathematical, odds based strategy that can beat roulette BUT if these conditions are right you may POTENTIALLY find an edge.
Recently went to a casino in Vegas and played at a $15 minimum table. I put 5 dollar chips on a couple of numbers and the dealer told me that each bet had to meet the $15 minimum, not my total bet (which was around $50 total). I’ve heard from others that the total bet just has to meet the minimum. Anyone know?
Bets like black and red, odd and even have to be $15. Anything on the table just need to total $15.
Most casinos you can spread the money throughout numbers, but must meet the mimimum total. Simultaneously, you can also bet outside, but each outside spot must meet table minimum, and cannot be combined with inside bets to meet minimum
Total is total not each. With that , most tables are outside bets have to meet table mIn and inside bets have to meet table mIn but that’s it
To caveat - $15 minimum on individual outside bets - inside bets to total $15
+1 this is the rule
I did the same thing. I’ve played roulette on my phone on an app for practice before I went. Just to learn a little bit.
$15 minimum. So I throw down $100 with my ID. I then put $5 chips on red, 19-36, odd = $15. The dealer said that’s wrong sir you cannot do that!
I was confused for a minute. Then I realized. You can only put $5 chips on to the actual physical numbers themselves. She told me only $15 minimums for red/black, the 19-36, 1-18 etc, odd/even.
Do you bet colors, chase numbers, or spread your bets? Share your approach. Also, whether it’s ever worked!
CoinPoker doesn’t offer roulette, but I’m loving their poker-themed variant someday. That is wild.
I play a few numbers I’ve marked as “lucky”, without any math behind it. And it did pay off well last month at TG Casino.
Once, I tried the Martingale system on Lucky Block. It was fun at first, but it requires deep pockets.
To me, the best strategy is stopping after a win. I broke even last week.
I see roulette strategies on forums sound smart until they don’t. At Instant Casino, I keep it simple and prefer corner bets.
Considering that there are 36 individual numbers you can bet on all giving you 35 times your bet if you win why shouldn’t you bet the same amount on let’s say 18 numbers simultaneously which gives you a 1/2 chance of winning money even after considering the 17 numbers you lost with, as an example let’s say I bet $10 on half the numbers that’s a $180 bet with a 1/2 chance of winning, statistically you should win half the time so you lose $180 in the first round and win a profit of $170 on the second round.
I never played and I assume that there is a problem with what I’m suggesting so please let me know my mistake.
Best strategy is to only play single 0 "European" roulette.
There's no strategy. No matter what numbers you play or bets you make, given enough time you will eventually lose all your money.
Casinos have no interest in giving you 50/50 odds.
Pretty much this. Roulette is hard to screw up because every bet is the same. At least in craps you can make poor decisions (guilty) as well as smart ones (also guilty) But roulette is just the same no matter how I look at it
There’s a craps bet that’s even but you have to make a non-even bet to be allowed to make it, so yeah.
There’s some strategy in that some bets have worse expected returns than others. But yea, there’s no winning.
People who are bad at math and logic love roulette and even think they can invent a strategy to beat it. Every bet has the same house edge. That house edge will destroy you in the long run.
There aren't 36 numbers on the wheel. There's 37-39 because 0/00/000 exist.
It's impossible to win long term.
Some different (losing) strategies will help you control variance however.
How is that different than betting on red or black? Evens or odds? Either way you have close to but slightly below a 50/50 chance. In the long run you’ll lose because you’re a little outnumbered because of the green/0
There is a large felt area where bets are put down. The dealer and the surveilance on camera are trained to watch for people changing their bet after betting is finished.
So is there a limit on how many people can play at once?
Any table game will have a limit of how many can play. Something like Blackjack or Baccarat will have 6-8 spots where players can sit, but each player has their own individual betting area, typically a circle or square in front of them. In Roulette there everyone is using the same betting area, so the limit of players is based on how many color sets of chips the casino has.
There's always some kind of physical limit. Roulette has eight, maybe ten different sets of chips, and when you buy your chips, you name a value for them. They're all going to be that amount.
Blackjack, 3-card poker, baccarat, those are all going to have so many betting slots, and that's how many people can play... unless the house lets you play more than one, but that's still how many physical hands can be dealt.
Craps? I've seen tables two people deep. Rarely, it gets three deep, but then you have a real hard time seeing the table.
Each player has different colored chips. There is a big table with all the possible options that you can bet on. There's a space for each number, for black, for red, for odd numbers, etc. You have to put your chips on the table before the dealer waves and says no more bets. There is a camera right above it. Then the ball lands on a particular color. If your bet wins, the dealer puts the correct amount of money on top.
Each player has different colored chips? I thought the chips on the color depends on the value of each chip?(like red chip for 25$, black for 100$)
In other games, yes. In roulette, it's different colored chips. When you leave, you exchange your roulette chips for regular chips.
This is true too. But you ask for $25 chips, and my stack of 25's would be a different color than your stack of 25's.
Don't listen to the commenter, it's not like that everywhere.
>To avoid disputes, each player receives a different color chip at roulette. These chips are good for that table only and you must cash them in for regular casino chips when you are done. You cannot cash in the roulette table chips at the cage.
People already talked about the different chips. But when you play roulette the dealer will call no more bets, this also means that there shouldn't be anyone moving or touching anything on the table so it's really easy to see someone moving stuff when no one is supposed to be touching anything.
The really ELI5 answer is: They watch you.
The dealer is watching first and foremost, it's their responsibility. Most of them have also been doing it long enough that even if they don't see you place extra chips on a winning bet (called capping a bet, not to be confused with pulling money off a losing bet called pinching a bet) they will often notice if they look away and look back and more chips were there than they remembered.
But cameras are always watching. Even if the eyes behind the camera aren't watching you at that very moment the camera is recording so it's as simple as going back on a youtube video to double check if anyone did anything funny on that table.
And it's a crime. Around these parts it's similar to theft and at best you're going to give the money back and get your ass kicked out and at worst end up in jail.
From last fall: How to Beat Roulette
Double on the black until you hit profit at least that's what I do when playing at rolling riches though I start with small amounts like $5 or $10 this always works think the rtp is great there
Bet on double 00 then profit!
skip it and head for the blackjack table, or sports betting if you can study it some
I used to run a variation of the nightingale system on roullette.
I'd bet $1 on 1-12 and $1 on 13-24. The odds of a win in that one roll are very much in your favor. If I lost I'd double what I was out on the same bet. Lose again? Double again.
Theoretically if there were no max bet on the table you could never lose. I'd search for tables that had low minimums and high maximums to increase the number of bets one could place before maxing out. These were not fancy casinos. I once played for dimes on a table with ciggie burns.
Also one zero on the table vs two zeros halves the house advantage. I had a spreadsheet to tell me each bet as I lost. The bets increase exponentially as you lose. But each roll is well in your favor and the chances of losing many times in a row is tiny.
I did this on a vacation level for years. Never lost. Never made a lot either. A few hundred here and there. Paid for my rooms usually. Its not a lot of fun. But the dopamine is there.
In reality I never came near the max bet where i'd really lose. Until one day. Fremont st. I lost like 6 or 7 rolls in a row. Crazy odds but not maxxed out. But I didn't have it in me to place the thousands on the table neccessary for that last bet. But I watched. Id have lost.
I lost like $850 on that bad run. Stopped after that. Except the one day I wanted to show my new wife. Lost asap. Stopped for real.
i am talking about completely legal and openly avaiable casinos here.. not some secret society backdoor club.
and not a series of bets, just one 50/50 (i know roulette isnt exactly 50/50) bet
Every casino will have its own table maximum, and those might even differ within the same casino.
so what table limits are common ? i never been in a casino ? could someone like jeff bezos make a single spin for 1 billion dollars ?
Every casino sets its own limit. I doubt any casino on earth would allow a billon dollar spin though. That would risk destroying the place.
One million dollars
so if i had a suitcase with one million dollar i can walk intio any casino.. put it on the table.. say red or black and eithr win or loose and that would be ok for everyone and i can just leave with the money or loose it without questions asked ?
Yep
No. A million is way, way over the limit for roulette tables in almost any casino. Go to Monte Carlo and you might be able to negotiate that, but just go to a random roulette table on the Las Vegas strip and the limits are going to be more like $5000.

Amazing story 💜💚💜💚💜💚💜💚💜💚💜
so cool! keep the good work up:)
How do you position the ball when you go to spin?
Reach into the wheel and have your arm straight. Don't move your arm, not even your wrist. Hold the ball between your middle finger and thumb. Good luck! Remember: Practice makes perfect
Practice. Ask to go on whatever table gives you the most practice for your weaker hand. Don't use your whole arm. Don't even use your wrist. It's one smooth motion of your middle finger against the rim. Do not "click" or "snap" your fingers.
Practice fast spinning and slow spinning as well. These will come in handy when it comes to your companies speed rates and will impress your inspectors when managing games. For example as soon as you're done paying out and have nothing to do but wait just give the ball a big long fast spin, gives the players time to place their bets and keeps the game going. Give it a slow spin if you have a small game or spent ages paying out on a big win or multiple wins.
today was my first time playing blackjack in a casino! 18+ USA. there were a couple little things i learned:
there isn’t a sign or anything for this, so what else should people know?
Most casinos will let you use a "basic strategy" card at the BJ table. If you're new, use it. They cost about $1 at the gift shop, and if you go to one of the instructional classes, they may give you one.
Most casinos have really cheap minimum bets during early day hours/weekdays. They also often offer beginner classes in several different games during the day. If you are staying there, or are close enough to get there at breakfast time, inquire about those. The beginner classes and low-minimum times are a relaxed way to learn about the games without losing much.
Always tip your waitress. Whether you order a pepsi or something fancy and alcoholic, they expect the tips.
They'll take cash or they'll take the $1 chips. Don't use roulette chips, since they aren't easily converted back to cash.
Rules for casino roulette
Key Considerations for Casino Roulette Rules
Game Layout: Roulette consists of a spinning wheel with numbered pockets (0-36 in European roulette, 00-36 in American roulette) and a betting table. Familiarize yourself with the layout to understand where to place your bets.
Types of Bets:
Betting Limits: Each casino sets minimum and maximum betting limits for each table. Make sure to check these limits before placing your bets.
Payouts: Understand the payout structure:
House Edge: The house edge varies between European (2.7%) and American roulette (5.26%). European roulette is generally more favorable for players due to the absence of the double zero.
Gameplay: Players place their bets before the dealer spins the wheel. Once the ball lands in a pocket, winning bets are paid out, and losing bets are collected.
No Betting After Spin: Once the wheel is in motion, no further bets can be placed. Be aware of the dealer's call of "no more bets."
Recommendation: If you're new to roulette, start with outside bets to familiarize yourself with the game and minimize risk. As you gain confidence, you can explore inside bets for higher payouts. Always set a budget and stick to it to ensure a fun and responsible gaming experience.
