General Overview
Dining options at Six Flags parks have been criticized for their limited variety and lack of healthy choices. Many visitors express dissatisfaction with the typical fast-food offerings, such as chicken strips, pizza, and hot dogs [1:3]. However, there are some standout items that have received positive feedback, such as the Philly Cheesesteak at Mama Flora’s in Great Adventure
[1:1].

Dining Plans and Value
The dining plans offered by Six Flags can provide value if you plan to visit multiple times. These plans typically include regular menu items and can offer savings on meals throughout the season [4:2]. However, some users note that the options may be limited to smaller or basic menu items, and additional charges might apply for upgrades

Tips for Visiting
If you're visiting during peak times, consider ordering in advance for places like Giordano's Pizza to avoid long wait times [2:7]. Additionally, bringing your own water bottle or using the refillable cups available at the park can help save money on drinks
[3:2].
Wow are they abysmal. Six Flags has never been known for its food but things have really declined at Great Adventure. So little variety and if you're looking to eat healthier (or have any dietary restrictions whatsoever) you're screwed. Even Six Flags America has better options. I really hope the merger helps improve things - Kings Dominion used to have some of the worst food out there but Cedar Fair recently turned things around and the food is actually great now. Oh well, end of my little rant.
The official reason is, nobody orders the healthy or more unique options. To the park's credit, they have tried to offer them a few times in the past (Go Fresh Café used to have its own place and offered multiple salads including a build-your-own option, and rotisserie chicken was available at Granny's). Unfortunately, the general public sticks with chicken strips, pizza, and hot dogs…
Lots of people ordered the Chinese food, and they don't even have that now. So I don't really think product sales is a decent excuse. There's just few food places there in general compared to other parks, even things like ice cream are kind of hard to find.
They all have Chop six it just sucks. They need to replace the bad Chinese with some quick and cheap stuff like fairs have. I know that isn’t healthy but I’d like more options vs the gray lo mein.
Meh, food options but what do you really expect at a them park? Mostly fast food options.
I ate at Mama Flora’s today and their Philly Cheesesteak was actually delicious. Honestly some of the best theme park food I’ve ever had. I feel like at Six Flags parks you have to take other people’s recommendations (this from Canobie Coaster), because eating at some random food spot is bound to disappoint
Yeah we enjoyed those cheesesteaks last week too. And the $24 dining option made the outrageous prices just ridiculous 😀
That's a good point. Unfortunately if you're looking for lighter options it's extremely limited (even more so if you have any dietary restrictions, which thankfully I don't)
Yeah I’ve never eaten their food before and I definitely never will try it out. As if $20 chicken strips doesn’t already rub me the wrong way 😬
I will be visiting in July and I am looking for food recommendations to eat in the park or any restaurants nearby. I'm not trying to spend a fortune, but I do want more than McDonald's and chicken strips at the park. I do have a meal plan that my wife and I split while in the park. Thanks for the help everyone.
There’s a Giordano’s Pizza on the other side of the freeway - it takes about 45min for their deep dish pizzas but we called in our dine-in order in advance when we started walking out of the park and it was ready 10 min after we sat down - perfect.
Terrible recommendation. There is also a Lou Malnati’s near that Six Flags and it is better than tourist trap Giordano's in every conceivable way. Giordano's is where deep dish pizza gets its bad reputation with coasters.
Advance ordering for deep dish sounds like a great idea, now i just need to find a place for an Italian beef and chicago dogs.

There's a Portillos at Gurnee Mills (external to the mall itself).
Yukon BBQ and Windy City are the best restaurants in the park by far.
There are some great local breakfast & lunch spots near the park, but they close around 2-3pm (Tina's Italian Bake Shop, Gurnee Donuts, Riverside Cafe)
The Culver's across the street from the park is also consistently high quality, and Timothy O'Tooles Pub next door serves good food.
Can confirm. Windy City is a good choice. Much better burger than I’ve had at a theme park so far. One of our party got the salad and was was wishing they got a burger when the food arrived. It’s inside. It’s cool: which is a big deal if it’s a hot day.
best theme park burger I've had was at Miami River Brewhouse at Kings Island (the meatloaf burger they have for Winterfest)
very similar restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring the food to you
I prefer to eat outside the park. I like Mama K's in the little strip mall across the street, or Salutos across the interstate and west a bit if I'm looking for something a bit fancier.
Great! thanks for the options.
Depending on where you're coming from, you may enjoy the nearby Culver's (burgers and such).
One very subpar slice of pizza at Primo's Pizzeria near The Dark Knight was $16.99. WTF.
In defense of chicken strips, the ones I had this year at the park were surprisingly delicious.
I haven't been to Six Flags since Wonder Woman, West Coast Racers, or Crazanity was built, and I'm excited to go! I got the pass with the Ride N Refresh, but I'm assuming it's just a regular cup I can use. Would it just be worth it to get the plastic ones they sell throughout the park? Is there any good food I should try out, or just take my own lunch? Any other tips or suggestions aside from the usual drink water, sunscreen, and stay hydrated?
Your ride and refresh cup should be the same as the plastic ones but either way they’ll scan your barcode to refill. If it’s not I would bring a sharpie to write your name on it.
As someone said the spray bottle fans are good to have. I never brought one before but even an umbrella for shade. There’s never shade around. Have fun!
If you're going all day from open to close, the All Day Dining pass is a great value. I have the season dining pass for 2 meals per visit, my wife and I usually get the meals that are shareable and have a high quantity of food. Meals that come with lots of food are the Cilantro lime chicken nachos at Food Etc & the orange chicken & teriyaki chicken bowls. The loaded nachos at Twin Charged Tacos, chicken strips from Johnny Rockets, and anywhere else that has them.
Not sure if you already tried the Bbq Mac anc cheese place across from full throttle already but it’s one of my favorite foods throughout the park. I would try bringing a mist bottle to stay extra cool
Yeah best food actually it’s on the all day dining meal too and quick to get.
Prestige pass grants you early entry through the VIP gates…they’ll “rope drop” around 10:20am every morning…
Aside from some repaints and remodeling many areas, including bathrooms, it’s still the same park with not much change.
I'm considering buying the dining plan for next year for Great Adventure in NJ. But I don't know what that includes. What does the dining plan meal typically include? Are there any healthy options?
The best way to find out is to download the six flags app. Click on your home park and then choose dining at the bottom of your screen. Now you can browse all of the dining options. Meal plan will be labeled next to all of the items on the menu that you can utilize the dining plan for. There are quite a few options. If you have the money, definitely go for it. In my opinion the dinning plan options are hearty and delicious for the price. Get a diamond pass with a meal plan! You will be all set with food and beverages for the rest of 2023 and 2024. Let me know if you have any more questions. Enjoy!
Things of note. You’re generally restricted to the regular or “smaller” menu items. Like you can get the single cheeseburger, but not the double. You can get the foot long hot dog, but not the chili cheese footlong hotdog. Our home park has very few healthy items available. My son was able to upgrade some chicken strips one day to the hot chicken strips by paying an up charge, so that might be an option, but if I’m paying at every meal then I need to question the value of the food pass. Keep in mind the 3 hour rule and how long you’ll actually be in the park. We’ve ran into “problems” a couple of times now where we’re not ready for dinner, but most of the restaurants in our home park start to close up around an hour before closing. So if we get to the park at 11 and eat lunch, we need to be in one of the restaurants by 5:00 (if the park is closing at 6, which has been the case on Sundays now). We’re not always ready to eat by that time since we need to be heading to dinner around 4:45 if we’re going to get our 2nd meal that day.
Ultimately the food at Six Flags isn’t great. I haven’t really been thrilled with the quality. However, the portions are generally big and it isn’t hard to go enough to get your value out of it. The average meal is around $15-17 from what I’ve seen. So you can do some math and figure out the value you think you’ll get out of it. Our home park costs $100 for the 2 meal dining plan. We’ve been 3 times so far and have gotten 6 meals per person (2 per day). That puts us at roughly $90 per person that we would have spent had we been paying out of pocket. Now in reality, we’ve gotten a 2nd meal in the park that we wouldn’t have normally gotten (either got fast food on the way home, which would be much cheaper, or waited to eat until we got home). Since we just got our passes, and have all of next year to go, it’s not hard to see we’ll be coming out way ahead by the end of the next season.
It all depends on your park and how long do you stay in park. My is SFGA and food quality is bad and expensive. I never stay for more than 3-4 hours in a visit. It does not makes sense for me to have a meal plan.
Here is the menu for 2022. While it is no doubt different now, it will give you a sense of the types of food Six Flags makes available:

Very helpful! Thank you!
Hey yall! What food is good at six flags? Got a season pass so lmk! <3 What do you deem reasonable priced and decent?
Prices are generally the same, so it just depends what you want. The tacos by Goliath are good. And I enjoy the Max'd Out Mac and Screaming Spuds, though it is a bit greasy.
Assume to spend roughly $20 for each meal.
I do love some Mac and cheese <3
The pulled pork mac and cheese is pretty good as far as amusement park food goes! It’s on par with the mac at some of the brew pubs in the city I lived in for my first couple years of college. The garlic knots it comes with are decent (around Dominos level).
I prefer Twin Charged Tacos by Apocalypse, especially their rice bowls... the only drawback is that they're not open all the time, like on slow days.
Yes!!! Their asada tacos are my fav.
My personal ranking:
The loaded baked potato:
I read this opinion from another post and tried the chicken sandwich by WCR and it did not disappoint! It’s a bit pricy but for theme park food it was pretty good.
I ask for the chicken wings by Full Throttle to be prepared plain without sauce... the skin is crispier and less messy that way. BTW good call on getting burgers at Johnny Rockets rather than the spam-ish sandwiches elsewhere.
Damn do I love Reddit, and you! Thanks <3
Ace o clubs by wonder woman is pretty good. I got the tri tip and my gf got the pulled pork. The portion sizes are enough for 2 people imo. Highly recommend the dining plan and using it twice, without it, the price is nearly the same with drinks without the dining plan.
The smart water they sell is also the large size bottles, enough to share with 2 people.
Katys kettle by tatsu is not bad either, decent chicken sandwhich for the price or chicken strips.
I’ve been going for years. My go to’s are usually the orange chicken spot by Goliath, chicken spot by west coast, tacos spot by west coast, bbq place by riddlers and if they are open, sandwich shop by colossus. Their food quality has been slowly picking up. The CEO six flags had for a bit seemed to emphasize on food quality, so food has gone up a lot since the pandemic days. Get the food pass if you’re planning on visiting 3+ times this year. You’ll save A LOT
Headed to the park this Friday and I don’t really want to drop $65+ on a dining pass. I could bring some snacks/food in I suppose. But, does anyone have any tips on the best priced food options in the park, if any??
Les Frites in Italy is the best deal and the best food in the park
Mobile order a kids meal. The options are limited, but they’re all around $10 and the portions are reasonable.
The pretzel sandwich in Germany across from verbolten is probably the best deal
The chicken tenders at squires grill is enough food for 2 people for $15. It’s our go-to.
We eat a big breakfast, pack heavy snacks for the park and plan to buy like one snack there (like their giant pretzel for $10), and have a cooler in the car with sandwiches and sides after we leave. We tend to leave early bc of our young kids, though.
ETA: If you're going to buy food, I think the hand cut, loaded fries at Les Frites are delicious and the best value
Considering taking my daughters ages 8 and 14 to Six Flags this weekend. A few questions since we’ve never been. Is it worth buying tickets in advance, or the meal deal etc? I can’t tell if prepaying for the meals or drinks ahead of time is a savings or not. (Are they lenient about bringing food in?) On a hot day, would you recommend we do both the waterpark and the amusement park? It’s a bummer it doesn’t appear you can JUST do the waterpark, unless I’m looking at it wrong.
I’d love any suggestions or tips for these ages, and how to make it as cost effective as possible. If there’s another spot you’d recommend for the day, will consider as well!
Would Canobie Lake park be a better option, cost and experience wise? We live halfway between both.
Bring your own food in a cooler and tailgate. Assuming they still allow re-entry, I wouldn't pay for any food at that place. It's going to be overpriced and underquality.
Yes, the food at Six Flags is disgusting and absurdly expensive. I went with friends the other day, and we went back to the car for lunch.
But, keep in mind it is a long walk from the entrance back to the car. There's a tram, but you still have to walk over a bridge with a lot of stairs. An 8-year-old may not be able to handle it. I recommend either walking back by yourself to get the food, or getting there early and pay for preferred parking (getting there early is important, since it fills up pretty fast).
Food at Six Flags is expensive and terrible. Reentry and tailgating is the way to go.
For Six Flags there is a ticket with a Dining Pass you can buy online that gets you a refillable cup and unlimited meals (every 90 min or something). Totally worth it to get ONE meal pass and share. My kids and shared a chicken fingers and fries as many times as we could. Got like six meals and at least 10 refills over the full day.
We were at six flags yesterday. I wouldn't prepay for food. We went to the water park and snuck food in our bag. Nothing large just enough to get through the day. If you I would do a chair rental/cabana rental so you have a home base. It is around $50 for Six flags and HH add on. The water park is fun though and large, we were there for around 5 hours plus ride time. We did rides first, did the water park and then a few rides after
I think Six flage has a summer pass including parking for $79.00 per person who like to go more or every other weekend. Food is way overpriced so take with you in pocket.( dry food okay in a purse)
Were you looking at Canobie Lake from your perspective or theirs? My 8yo loves the heck out of that park. It's huge to them. Maybe by 14 you're a little jaded... I get what you mean though, it's relatively small. We went 3x last year and 1x so far this summer. But I love how it's not exhausting for an old fart like me.
Would you do Canobie over Six Flags? Maybe they are really the same cost once I factor parking in.
I think I can help shed light on that one.
I'd say Canobie is the more light, kid friendly amusement park. It has a couple of thrill rides, but nothing too crazy.
Six Flags is that next level up. The coasters are bigger and more plentiful. Also, the water attractions at Six Flags are probably going to be bigger and better.
If I had to put in my money's worth though, I would hit up Canobie on a slightly rainy day. From my experience, fewer people visit on days with inclimate weather, and those who do show up end up in shorter lines and riding more often.
Oh I have zero advice in that regard. Last time I went to six flags it was a different park. Though my daughter loves roller coasters so she really wants to go soon. The 2 hour drive compared to 30 to Canobie has me hesitating! I'm sure she'll win and we will go in the next few weeks... Adding in the water park seems like a major pain in the ass.
Personally six flags over canobie for rides but if you want just a water park go to water country
Do we need to add on the water park?
Yum Yum Café is definitely my favorite place to eat, though Granny's is also great!
What do you recommend from the restaurant?
My go-to is usually Chicken Tenders and either fries, breadsticks, or Mac n' Cheese, though their pizza is also pretty good!
Granny's and Yum Yum Café have revamped menus this year, and I think the food quality is stepped up (but the portions might feel a little smaller).
Mama Flora's is a pretty good choice as well!
I was thinking Jersey devil, what’s new on the menu?
It was closed with the menus removed last week. No idea if it's reopened yet.
I bought the dining pass during the Labor Day flash sale but don’t remember if it said I could use it at any location. My receipt shows “2020 2-Park Premium Dining”
Anyone know?
Yes, the Premium upgrade allows it to work at all parks. Have you installed the Six Flags app on your phone? You can add the pass to it so you don't need the physical card, and it tells you what parks it works with, plus all the discounts/offers you have.
Yes, the premium dining pass allows you to eat at any six flags (:
Planning on going in a week and was wondering what is everyone's go to snack or meal at the park!
Thanks in advance for your feedback!
We got the chicken and waffle sandwich at the Chicken Coupe last week and really liked it! I also like the Mac and Cheese with garlic knots from the place by Full Throttle.
i 2nd the garlic knot mac n cheese
The wings are really good by Full throttle
Update 3 years later, wings are ok, price is $20 for 5 wings and some fries. If you have to eat and starving then I guess, if not just wait till you leave …
Second this!
Twistedwiches cheesesteak sandwich by far
Is the sandwich shop open yet tho?
I believe weekends only.
Awesome! My gf will be happy to hear that. Thanks again
Exit the park, head down Magic Mountain Parkway, google whatever kind of food you want, Santa Clarita/Valencia has it all.
Drive home. Raise cattle. Butcher, cook and eat. Park is closed. Off to bed.
Food etc chicken nachos
