What Redditors are Saying

Skyrim Secret Locations

TL;DR

  • Explore the northern frozen glacial area between Winterhold and Dawnstar for hidden gems [1:1].
  • Check out the necromancer's chicken nest south of Geirmund's Hall [1:5].
  • Visit the mammoth frozen in a glacier and the College of Winterhold's lost apprentices [1:8].

Unique Unmarked Locations

Skyrim is filled with unmarked locations that offer unique stories or items. One such location is the necromancer's chicken nest, where a novice conjurer reanimates dead chickens when you take an egg from a nest adorned with bones [1:5]. Another interesting spot is the fairy circle in Falkreath, which adds a touch of magic to your exploration [1:2]. The Talos shrine between Falkreath and Helgen is also notable for its enchanted loot and connection to the game's overarching conflict [1:3].

Hidden Environmental Storytelling

Some unmarked locations provide environmental storytelling, such as the burnt house with a Scroll of Flame Atronach nearby, hinting at a fiery demise [1:9]. The "lover's campsite" north of Dawnstar tells a silent story through its setup [5:1]. These locations add depth to the game world, offering players a chance to piece together narratives without explicit quests.

Exploration Tips

For those interested in discovering more hidden locations, exploring areas like Labyrinthian can reveal places like Shalidor's Maze and the Lost Valkigg ruins [3:1]. Kagrenzel is another remote location that doesn't appear on your compass unless you're close enough [3:2]. Additionally, the hot springs between Riften and Windhelm offer a relaxing spot with NPCs enjoying the water, though they won't appreciate theft [5:6].

Resources for Further Exploration

If you're eager to find more unmarked locations, resources like the UESP Wiki provide extensive lists of places to explore [5:1]. YouTube channels such as CamelWork's "Curating Curious Curiosities" series also delve into Skyrim's hidden treasures [2:6]. These resources can guide you to even more secret spots and enhance your Skyrim experience.

What are the "Best" Unmarked Locations in Skyrim?

ORIGINAL POST

I'm not talking about semi broken locations like the Dawnstar Chest. But more "official" hidden gems (sometimes literally) that are purposefully put in off the beaten track by the developers. But they can't be "named" locations that you can fast travel to.

Places you always hit up at the start of a run to get some handy gear or extra septims. Places with a funny environmental story to tell. Things like that.

The fairy circle you can find in falkreath, that and the giant crab corpse

The Talos shrine between Falkreath and Helgen, always head there early for an enchanted bit of loot.

Yeah Its right there early on, and it is a great introduction to the Talos vs Thalmor fought that carries through the whole game.

One I recently found despite years of exploring this game, was the (for lack of better words), "necromancer's chicken nest".

Its a chicken nest on a large ribcage turned upright, with other bone decor, with several dead chickens lying around. There's a novice conjurer nearby (that's easy to dispatch in 1 hit) that will reanimate one of the chickens when fought. When the egg is taken from the nest, the other dead chickens reanimate and walk around for about 30 seconds before dying again. (and that egg doesn't respawn)

This is directly south from Geirmund's Hall, across the river and up the hill by the mountain.

Various spots. There are no markers, but all vaguely in the vicinity of Winterhold. You can find unique items for each apprentice, but no quest to tie them together. Originally a college quest, and is mentioned in some dialog, but quest itself was cut.

Easter eggs and bizzare secrets. I'd love some!

Posted by Ca1____ · in r/skyrim · 4 months ago

I just reinstalled Skyrim and I'm so psyched about starting over again, I've had so much fun with the whole series and I'm looking forward to hour and hours of fun. If anyone has any strange places and secrets they favor I'd love to collect them here in thread. So if you could drop your favorite strange dungeon/quest/location here I'd appreciate it. I'd love to continue the thread with "here's mine" but honestly... I can't remember anything but the dread I felt when the troll came at me when I went up high Hrothgar the first time.

Thanks for reading.

Just discovered Shalidors Maze after 14 years of playing

Posted by Inevitable-Gur3895 · in r/skyrim · 2 months ago

I have played this game since 2011 and have never entered Shalidors maze until now. I was walking through Labyrinthian and noticed an unmarked door. Completed the maze, got the Diadem of the Savant (mid) and the Dismay shout.

What other hidden locations/quests do you know of?

Kagrenzel is far enough out of the way that it won't even show up on your compass unless you go out of your way to get close enough. Without the paid CC mods, there are no quests that point in that direction.

In Labyrinthian, head north, after walking through the central Nordic burial mound (where you place the masks), turn to your left. It is a double wooden door hidden underneath stone arches.

Oh, the trolls are no problem on the late game. It's just that I only visited the place, maybe twice per gameplay (for Mages Guild quest and the masks quest), and noticed the door by accident while completing the masks quest 😅

There's another location in labyrinthian that might go unnoticed.

When arriving in Labyrinthian (coming from Morthal), immediately past the entrance to the compound, turn left, up some stairs past a troll or 2, there's a door to The lost Valkigg ruins.

There's a little "lover's campsite" set up just NW of Dawnstar on the coast. I only found it recently (as in the past year) or if I've found it before I never paid attention to what was going on. No one is there, but it tells a pretty obvious story. ;)

Also, here's a HUGE list of unmarked places of interest.

What’s a secret area you’ve discovered that you think few others have found

Posted by stumped711 · in r/Grimdawn · 5 months ago

I’ve played this game for several hundred hours over the years. I’ve found a ton of secret nooks, pathways, areas etc. as I’m sure many players have. Some are obvious, others not so much.

It had me wondering..how much have I actually discovered that’s present in the game?

Has crate ever published a number on how many are hidden in the world?

What’s your secret you have stumbled on that you think others might have missed.

When you are in the Twin Falls area, there’s a spot west of the Arkovian ruins, up the road and through some rocks and bramble that leads to a heroic chest, I never knew it was there until I spotted it by accident

IDK how many people just randomly find those when playing on their own but IMPO the "secret" optional areas with a boss in them are the coolest things in Grim Dawn, like the Arkovian Coliseum and the Corrupted Tomb

By looking at the local map. Most extra/hidden areas and paths show the map extending further than usual, that's the clue to go looking

Fairly new here, can I get a mostly spoiler-free explanation of what that is? I'm playing guide-free until after my first story playthrough (including dlc), but I do have a tendency to clear the map on these sorts of games. Is this something that I might find naturally by exploring alone, or is it more like Diablo's secret levels where you have to do a series of obscure sequences?

9 upvotes on reddit
43user · 5 months ago

It’s 3 secret areas that are pretty hard to find. If you find the first, it gives you an item that opens the next one, and a lore note hinting at its location, and so on.

The first one is in one of the earliest areas in the game, and it’s given away by a shrine you cannot get to.

22 upvotes on reddit
stumped711 · OP · 5 months ago

That’s awesome. I love that whole sequence. Entire areas with bosses and a questline that spans a huge part of the entire world

Tamriel Rebuilt's best secrets?

Not a secret per se, but there is an amazing lore bit hidden in a conversation with one of the Ebon Tower Curia scribes. When you talk to him, he mentions that he can't stand the Simulacrum era bureaucracy, because back then maps were issued with imperialized names for the towns and settlements in Tamriel, and even some of those "settlements" being nonexistent. This is by far one of the best ways to justify the "retcon" of the old Arena and Daggerfall lore.

EDIT: Found him on UESP! He is actually located in the Imperial Census Office, my bad.

The Yscad he mentioned was actually a reference to a rather unpopular concept map among TR developers, which suggest revamping Vvardenfell alongside the mainland and notably renamed Ebonheart-on-Vvardenfell to Yscad to get around the "two Ebonhearts" deal.

Of note some TR devs actually are making a mod as a side project that revamps Vivec and part of it does include renaming Ebonheart, albeit just to "Hawkmoth Legion Fort".

Secret Locations?

Posted by Dracon204 · in r/swtor · 5 years ago

I've been playing for about 5 years now. Recently, though, I was shown a hidden room in The Foundry. It's off the map, contains a couple enemies and nothing else, but hey, it's neat! That got me thinking about other areas like this, like the path behind the fallen pillar in an early Inquisitor Instance in Korriban. It leads to an optional named Korr'slug enemy and a strange monolith structure. These places have always intrigued me, sparked my exploration urges. These are the only two I know of. Does anyone know of anything else like this? Places that are hidden away and completely optional, not tied to any quests or anything like that?
