TL;DR
Trophy Challenges
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth features a demanding trophy list, with 61 trophies including a platinum. Achieving these requires significant time investment, estimated between 150-200 hours [1:1]. Some players find the mini-games more tedious than difficult, while others struggle with specific combat simulations
[1:2]
[3:5].
Combat System Mastery
The combat system in Rebirth is complex and rewarding once mastered. Players are encouraged to rethink their combat strategies and materia loadouts, especially when tackling hard mode [4:8]
[4:9]. Understanding the intricacies of the battle system can significantly enhance your gameplay experience
[4:3]
[4:5].
Materia Management
Effective materia management is crucial for success in Rebirth. It's recommended to have multiple elemental materias and to max out all your materias [5]. Arranging materia thoughtfully can make a substantial difference in battles
[4:7]. For those new to the game, experimenting with different setups can help identify what works best for your playstyle
[4:12].
Mini-Games and Battle Simulations
Mini-games such as Cactuar Crush and gym challenges require precision and rhythm [5]. Online guides, particularly from Optinoob, provide strategies for these challenges
[5:1]. Turning off in-game music can aid in maintaining rhythm during rhythm-based mini-games
[5:6].
Adaptability and Patience
Success in Rebirth often hinges on adaptability and patience. When following guides, it's important to remain flexible and adjust strategies as needed [5:8]. Practicing patience, especially during challenging combat simulations, can prevent frustration and lead to eventual success
[5:2].
Overall, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth offers a rich and challenging experience that rewards strategic thinking and perseverance. Whether you're aiming for 100% completion or simply enjoying the journey, these tips can help guide you through the game's toughest challenges.
Overall an amazing experience, some trophies were more tedious than difficult imo, especially mini games.
Well done, I’m currently on this. Just the Cloud & Zack and Cloud & Sephiroth combat simulations to do and i’m done!
Thx and good luck with the last challenges 😎
Yea agree, I try to like the story changes but I want to wait for part 3 but that a story for another day.
It was tuff plat but Is was fun.
Congrats ‼️
Can’t wait for part 3!
Thx!
Congratulations this one is on my list.
Thx, you surely have something to look forward to 👀

Hey guys i got 100% in remake earlier this year and it was fun to do but i really wanna also get the 100% for rebirth was hoping anyone thay has gone for this would have some tips and tricks for achievements to hit early on etc. Thanks guys!
I'm working on the same game atm 😅
I'll say this, F that last level in hard difficulty with unskippable cutscenes, F those Top Secrets battles both main game and DLC and F that Immaculate. Those battles were so stressful. But a very good game.
Now I am hearing that Rebirth is way grindier and way harder in every aspect... I think I am fine not attempting that one.
I hear ya! I'm not trying either of them, congratulations to you for even getting this one. I love final fantasy games, always have. I've played them all, but they are known for some brutally hard trophy lists. I'm looking at you ff9 and ff10, lol.
Oh, I don't think there is a harder trophy than jumping the rope I don't know how many times in a row, this game is a cakewalk compared to that one. But yeah, basically the game pushes you to play in a very different way against some of the battles, meaning if you don't have leveled up the materia needed you are going to have to grind or have a very very hard time.
Congratulations, Rebirth is easier than remake 😅😅.
I also got the platinum for Remake and I'm currently working on Rebirth — what makes you think Rebirth is easy?
Don’t think so honestly. Rebirth is over double the time, has far more minigames where some you have to play basically perfect. Plus the vr battles are way harder than remake. I still loved doing it though
I have the decks of both, believe me Remake is a joke compared to Rebirth with the VR fights, even the DLC boss is simpler
How did you do the score attack thing for Yuffie? I tried it for ages and didn't get it.
What do you mean? The boxes challenge?
Yeah. I'd always get to the very end and fail.
I also have that plat. I thought the hell house on hard was gonna be impossible, but I got really lucky and beated first try, maybe the dragon shit was difficult? But once you have the right set is a walk in the park. 10/10 game imo, the platinum not so much, it’s a grind for real and made me wanted to take a break from the series.
Working on this now, on chapter 5 hard mode, it’s kind of a fun challenge so far. Congrats!
Hard mode is not that hard tbh, only Chapter 18 gets frustrating because it consist in 2 long battles, you mess it up at the end of the first one and you are going to go all the way back with all the unskippable cutscenes. The really hard ones are the 3 vs top secrets and another boss you unlock by playing the dlc.
A few months ago I posted a thread saying how disappointed I was in this game regarding the battle system. I just want to say, I was completely wrong. I stopped playing at mythril mines and after a 3 month hiatus I decided to try the game again.
After watching multiple YouTube videos and some trial and error I finally understand the battle system and my god what a delight it is.
I’m basically at the end of Mt Corel and I must say, this game is a solid 10/10. The graphics, game play, story line, characters even the optional side quests are so amazing.
If anyone has lost hope on this game and has stopped playing out of frustration, I urge you to take a break and try again. You would truly be missing out on possibly the best remake any game has ever received.
Not only is it the best remake a game has received imo, this is perhaps the best final fantasy game ever made.
Original thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/FF7Rebirth/s/nWhlIUndC1
I bought this game for the combat (and of course, the continuation of Remake), and I was not disappointed. Once I finished my initial run of the game, I knew I wanted to complete all of the mini-games, so that I can focus solely on exploring more of the combat mechanics, and what a joy it has been.
I have accepted that I'm simply not good enough to deal with the toughest challenges in the Combat Simulator, and I acknowledge that it really is me. The game is beautifully designed and balanced from top to bottom, and is extremely ambitious and accomplished.
I've slowly gotten better as the game has progressed and that's because it rewards you for thinking, planning, and strategizing. I'll never figure out the exact right setups to break the game or beat certain insane bosses with one character or whatever. But I'm happy with what I'm doing and it's awesome how the game rewards those who pay attention, even if they're not the best when it comes to action mechanics.
I am on a similar boat. Had to go from normal to easy mode because I was not enjoying the challenge. I am very new at playing videogames and I am a toddler mom. I had about a couple of hours each day to play and spending those two hours trying to beat a hard boss was not it. I was usually lost about 30 minutes each playthrough not knowing how to get places haha. I am on my second playthrough because I skipped through so much so I could know the end without getting spoiled. Yesterday I was getting angry about the Fort Condor game because it seemed very hard for the game to be in easy mode xD I had to have my husband explain how to play it and it got better after that.
You'll get better. Rebirth is NOT a game for novices, so definitely start with Easy. I've been playing games for 35 years and Normal is plenty enough of a challenge for me. I don't need Easy but I can see how certain sections would be way too hard on Normal for those relatively new to gaming. In the end, it's all about entertainment -- if you're not having fun, what's the point?
I had a phase where I wanted to beat the hardest games out there, but it was a loooong time ago and not only could I probably not do it now, I have no interest in doing so, either. I have many other hobbies these days and gaming isn't even #1 anymore, so "fun" has become the top priority in any game I play. A little challenge is fine (too easy isn't that fun), but the days of, "yeah, I beat Devil May Cry 3 on Hard!" are long gone. And I'm perfectly fine with that. :)
I wasn’t wild about the battle system originally. But it became absurdly fun and fulfilling once I got good at it.
In fact, I beat REMAKE on normal mode in 2020, but I never got good at fighting. Think I have to revisit that one after I finally plat this one
Yeah I completed remake back in the day, tried chapter 1 on hard and got wrecked immediately. Currently replaying ps5 version of remake and doing hard mode and having a blast with it!
yeah hard mode makes you rethink combat and materia loadout completely, i adore it for that. normal is very easy and not a challenge, but hard mode in either game fixes that and is so rewarding when you master it
These games are meant to be played on Hard simply because the battle system is so in depth and complex, you can’t appreciate it until you are actually pushed to the limit of what you can do
It is a lot more complicated but thats what makes it fun if you have the patience to figure it out and spend hours arranging materia 🤣
The materia stuff was too much for me. I just slapped whatever seemed good on my characters and moved on. It didn’t negatively impact my experience at all.
It's not that complicated. Just annoying that if you're forced to switch characters you have to switch over materia if you want them to have similar builds
Man I got myself taking some time arranging materia and the difference between the fights is out of the box.
Make sure you have at least 4-5 of each elemental materia and max out all your materias.
As for the minigames, there are plenty of guides online of how to cheese the auto battlers, or how to perform well on Cactuar Crush. Never found the situps/gym stuff to be difficult, I'm a rhythm gamer so it kinda is like that.
Any other tips leave a comment and I'll answer as best as I can!
For real! If it wasn’t for his guides, getting the plat would’ve torn my sanity to shreds!
"Didnt find the situps hard " the one thing i was gonna ask about i completly dropped the game cause i want to get that done and out so no tips huh 🫠
I found it easier to just remember the pattern and I closed my eyes. It slowly speeds up to tolerate faster inputs so just start slow and gradually build it up....count it like you would count out a song like 1, 2, 3, 4. Just practice the pattern before you even start the game. Get your finger used to the motion and pattern they have to do. You got it brother!!!!
Tip I have to give is turn off the in game music. Makes it so much easier to count/keep Rhythm. Took me only a couple of tries after doing this 👍
I just have the battle sim left. Other than following the Optinoob stuff, any recommendations?
If all you have is the battle sim stuff then not really as I followed his guides. One thing you'll find is you.canr replicate his strats but sometimes things happen so don't follow them so rigidly and if things go off program, to remember the strat and just keep going. For the battle sims, if you follow his guides, for the Zack/Cloud fight, on round 9 and 10, don't get caught out so much by attacking. The main damage comes from the magic so trying to always hit them can and will get you killed. Focus more on blocking in Prime Mode as it gives you a ton of atb, and only get Berserk status when you're ready to throw some lvl3 magic. If this doesn't make sense it will if you watch his videos.
You got it, just take your time and remember there's no timer for the fights, take it slow and keep your fundamentals in order, its actually not so bad.
Yeah I've had a little look so I'm getting what you're saying.
Keep it flexible, stay patient, win. I shall do my best! Thanks for the heads up
Couldn't agree more with your title. Got the Platinum last year, and the combat simulator at the end is just BS. Congratulations on the Platinum :)
Congratulations on the plat! 😁
I finished the game on PC for the first time 3 nights ago. I can’t remember feeling this way about a game in so long. I’m 41 with a FULL family and job… it took me almost 3 months to get to this point due to time constraints and some open world burn out here and there… and I’m like “let’s do it again”!” I stopped playing for a weekend to try Expeditions 33 and realized that game was going to suck me in so I went back to Rebirth and am so glad I did. My biggest regret is not really learning a good build for each character earlier in the game instead of just brute forcing my play through on normal mode. I also didn’t understand just how OP Aerith could be until very late. I normally just move onto the next thing because my backlog is so big but damn I may have to just fall back into another play through. I’m not sure if hard mode is where I want to go with it though. What do you guys think? Should I dive back in now or give it time to settle? I heard it people mention giving it time before going again and I don’t want to not play something else amazing when I have such little time to game.
congrats! As a fellow 40+ gamer I have been putting off playing because I know how much of a commitment it will be. I don't have a ton of time to play these days and keep telling myself I'm going to start it after finishing some of my other smaller backlog games but man it just seems daunting.
Took me 120 hrs lol but I did everything but get all the Costa del sol pieces for Johnny's spot
You need hard mode to finish that quest.
If you just do the story on normal, ignore all side content. It's like 35 hours. If you do 100% then it's like 200+ hours.
I transformed my master walk in closet into my “man cave” this year and just started using my free time at nights to game. I get about two to three hours every other night and sometimes go into the wee hours of the morning even though I have work the next day. My wife is understanding since I always wait until my family’s needs are met first. I would say just get in there and go man. It’s totally worth it.
Hard mode goes quick if you're skipping the side content and fast traveling. I'm doing mine now plus side quests but it's still fast. I got through ch 6 in 7 hours and I'm redoing all the side quests and listening to townspeople talk to each other.
I had the same experience. You can still do quests for books, but without all the others stuff you can get through chapters pretty quickly.
My plan is to give both of them a hard mode run just before part 3 comes out as a refresher
Nice ! Now go play Expedition 33 😈
Hard mode is a misleading title. It’s completely unforgiving. Just do what feels natural.
As for how you feel about the game I get it. I’m the same age as you, no family though… but when I got to the ending I said if this was the last game I ever played that would be fine. And honestly if I ever did give up gaming… I might play through this one more time and make it my last. Or perhaps the entire FF7R trilogy once the third part is out. It’s one of the best games ever made.
Just finished the game on easy. I decided on “easy” partway through the game because it’s more fun and allows me to be creative instead of trying to be efficient. Also, I can take in what’s going on instead of just trying to survive. The game delivers massive value for the price. I noticed the vast amounts of work that went into creating every scene. I didn’t really care for the mini-games though and I think they could have cut that out; free time is more scarce for those of us that work. Overall, a much better game than even the Remake, which was already great.
I took the same approach for my first playthrough, running on Easy. I wanted to make sure I could focus more on having fun and soaking it all in as opposed to worrying about if I had the right materia for certain mobs and bosses.
I also knew I'd be running through Hard Mode after, I was going to face the punishment sooner or later anyways, lol.
All in all, some areas not as good as others, but all things considered, a fantastic game.
I think this is the right way to do it. You get to relax and enjoy the story and all the wackiness in a frustration free playthrough and then you can get down to the grindstone for hardmode.
My thoughts exactly. This game has such a highly fleshed out world that I didn't want to miss a thing, and then once I absorbed all of that, I would be able to get beat up as I streamlined the Hard Mode story and side quests lol.
> I wanted to make sure I could focus more on having fun and soaking it all in as opposed to worrying about if I had the right materia for certain mobs and bosses.
is this not the point of dynamic mode?
Coming from a Final Fantasy N00B, I’m envious you’re on easy 🤣 I know I can switch it but that’s not my style now that I’m towards the end of the game. I can’t for the life of me understand how someone could play on a higher difficulty than normal! Amazing game nonetheless..
You have to complete normal to unlock hard mode. Then it's a new game+ format, so you are already high level (or getting to max doesn't take long) and you have all the materia and weapons from your normal run.
Hard mode is fun and challenging, and you will already have seen the story so you don't feel compelled to rush through to the end.
I agree it's not for everyone though, some bosses are very frustrating.
I think some enemies only trully shine in higher difficulties, not only in this game, like sometimes I just brute force the bosses but when playing on hard you see new attacks or have to learn a specific gimmick to beat them.
The Mythril Mine boss for instance, I just spammed attacks on my first playthrough and it seemed like any other enemy, but on hard I was forced to learn how use the defense sinergy skill to survive the projectiles;
Same hwew, but the hard level is where the sweet items are at.
Mini games are good to me but I seem to be a very patient 30 year old compared to most on see on reddit. I am find taking my time completing the game because we're gonna have to wait few years for the next one so why rush to finish it. But glad you enjoyed the game too
Minigames are a huge reason why it became my new favorite game.
Legit what ive been asking for out of a new JRPG for many years. Finally delivered and it was incredible.
Varied gameplay is what i want in RPGs. And actual in game rewards for interacting with that varied gameplay. Cannot wait for part 3 and i hope they use some of these ideas in other future games.
Yeah this is the only rpg with the most fun side content I can think of
Mid 30s here. I love the mini games. I like some more than others, but I’m so glad they were included. I don’t understand the hate, you can completely skip almost all of them. If there are a few Materia or items you want from them, you can just focus on those few. Square did a really good job with making them interesting and challenging enough, but also giving players complete freedom over how many or few we want to engage with.
I hope part 3 is just as diverse with mini games, I’d even be ok if there were more.
Hy all, I would really like to download some official strategy guide for ff8. If I remember correct there was some version by Piggyback or something :) I'm really looking forward for the remaster and I would like to refresh my mind a bit before release. I think I didnt play it for over 10 years. Thx a lot!

You might find something interesting here ;)
Steam ffviii remastered version is coming and i didn't expect to find this guide in here :) thx a lot man
Thx a lot!!! :))) this is exactly what I was looking for :) Thx mate
This is my favorite game hands down, I'm currently trying to replace the steam version with 1080 AI enhanced FMV's.
Just found this, you're a lifesaver dude. \m/

This makes me hate reddit less. Thank you!
5 years later, thanks friend
While reading a guide will be very helpful, it's likely that even the most accurate guides we have at the moment will be slightly wrong when the remaster comes out. Square have confirmed the are changing the code for one of Rinoa's abilities and therefore could be fixing some of the other bugs i.e. a current guide will recommend you don't use the ability "Rare Item" but that might be fixed in the remake.
I actually have a copy of the old strategy guide put out by Prima Games (I think) for FF8. I could find it and ship it to you
I live in Philadelphia, but the strategy guide is in my parent's house in upstate NY. Let me see if I can track down some PDF guides for you
Ok, I read some of your earlier posts and I see that Piggyback and other official guides have errors in it so I'll try with AbsoluteSteve's or SplitInfinity's guide. Any recommendations which one to use? Thx :)
More a full walkthrough than a guide, but I always found this one by Cepiroth was extremely helpful https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/197343-final-fantasy-viii/faqs/4897 it’s also one of the oldest ones around though
I went to Game Stop or what may had been a EB at the time and was going to buy FF8 for about $20. The floor employee directed me to a copy bundled with the Strategy guide for the same price. The employee and my mom had to convince me to get it. I was basically like, "what the hell a strategy guide? You think I'm retarded and can't beat this without it telling me how?"
So happy I did. Used it for the secret stuff and the card game to get them all. Impossible to know you have to lose certain cards to people for them to start using whatever card you want from them.
I'm sure I'd definitely enjoy FFVIII a lot more (gameplay-wise, anyway) if I had a guide to go along with it...
I'm pretty.sure the official FFVII guide is missing some stuff like items here and there.
are the strategy guides hard to find or something?
Not really, back then you could find them in the video game section at any store. You kind of needed them at times for FF because you’d hit a brick wall of a boss and just want to get freaking past them to find out what happens next story wise. Of course you didn’t know this when you started playing because you wanted to beat it “yourself” but then you’d hit the fucking 1-2 knockout of Red Dragon and Demons Gate in FF7 (for me) and you’d go back to the store.
And people say "Oh you should do it blind!" Bruh when you're Stuck at parts like these you really need a guide to help you.
For the longest time I was stuck on demons gate, until I figured out about putting characters on the back row, think i did it by accident 😅
That floating undead boss dude in the caves under RedXIII's town for me. Come to learn you can kill him with Regen and other cure spells. I believe a Phoenix Down is a one-hitter against him.
Probably not. I just never wanted to spend money on them lol
At most, I would skim through one whenever I saw them on store shelves (provided they weren't wrapped in plastic), but that's about it.
I always liked to get strategy guides to look at the art. They used to be like expanded manuals to me.
Amazing game with some of the most difficult endgame content in Final Fantasy. The post game battles are honestly a mixed bag of "I've done it!" and "Who thought this was a good idea?"
All platinums on second image, 3rd is alphabetical order and 4th are all game names
If Final Fantasy your favorite franchise or is Final Fantasy 7 your favorite franchise?
Final Fantasy in general, 7 is great but 6 is my favorite
Huge congrats on this big milestone!
Thank you! Playing mostly what interests you makes it a pleasant journey
Congrats and a plat to be proud of!
