Subnautica Resource Guide

TL;DR

  • Use scanner rooms in multiple biomes for efficient resource location [5:1].
  • Key resources like lithium and rubies have specific spawn locations [5:2].

Using the Scanner Room

A highly effective method for locating resources in Subnautica is utilizing the scanner room. This tool allows you to scan for specific resources within its range, making it easier to gather materials without extensive searching. Building scanner rooms in various biomes can significantly enhance your ability to locate different resources throughout the game world [5:1]. Additionally, equipping a HUD chip can streamline this process by displaying resource locations directly on your HUD [5:8].

Resource Locations

Certain resources are found in specific biomes. For example, lithium is commonly found in the Mushroom Forest, while rubies are located in the Bulb Zone near hot water vents [5:2]. Magnetite, another crucial resource, can be found in the Jellyshroom Caves [5:7]. Understanding these locations can save time and effort when gathering materials.

Gathering Samples

In addition to mining resources, some materials require collecting samples using tools like the knife. These include items such as Creepvine samples and Table Coral, which are essential for crafting advanced materials later in the game [5:4]. While the scanner room may not detect these samples, observing the environment and scanning with your PDA can provide valuable information about their uses.

Community Resources and Guides

The Subnautica community offers a wealth of resources and guides that can assist new players. For instance, there are comprehensive video playlists on base building and other aspects of the game [4]. Engaging with these resources can provide additional strategies and insights into efficiently managing your gameplay experience.

By leveraging these strategies and community resources, players can optimize their resource gathering and enjoy a more streamlined experience in Subnautica.

For anybody looking for this in the game, click the Journal icon in the bottom right of the main UI, then it's the second tab as shown in the video.

I had a quick look through and the thing that seemed most helpful to me was the Small Equipment Assembly Shop lists the resource costs of all the vehicles you can build. That helps because I can check that to see if I'll have enough resources first.

So more broadly if buildings can list their own resource costs as well as their recipes (and costs) that would be good. A good in-game encyclopaedia obsoletes the need for an external wiki.

(Let me know if this violates rule 5)

Hi r/subnautica, I've been working on making a publicly editable repository of everything that we currently know about subnautica 2 from primary sources. I started it earlier this month and it's been coming along rather nicely; if you would like to help out or just learn more about subnautica 2's development, feel free to check it out at this link

For the past 4 years or so, I spent my time creating ideas for Subnautica. This is just the lifeform ideas. I have ideas for biomes, structures, materials and more. The amount of lifeform ideas adds up to 125.

Labled in green is plants, labled in blue is non-leviathan class animals, labled in red is leviathan class animals and labled in orange is fungi.

I have revealed some ideas on this subreddit but most of the posts are have outdated art or have outdated information.

Let me know what you guys think. If you're interested in any ideas I'll try and give some information but just know that it is subject to change.

This is so cool, a fan game or at least a book of some sort with info about these would be so nice. Sadly concepts stay concepts most of the time

Yeah. I am creating a spreadsheet of all of my concept biomes with the info related to those biomes. I would have to do the same with my concept flora, fauna, fungi and leviathans though.

If you want to find everything yourself, without looking anything up, you'll want to find the fragments to build basic base pieces and a scanner room.

The scanner room checks for a resource you select within a range.

Build a scanner room in multiple biomes, and you'll start to see where all of the resources are throughout the world.

Besides that -- scan things and check your PDA. It'll tell you more about any resources it can make since some things require "samples."

Inglish_Tea · OP · 3 years ago

Thx :) I'll try the scanner room trick. Cuz i got one in my main base but I never thought of putting one in different biomes lol. And also wdym by samples.

izodine · 3 years ago

Creepvine sample. Table coral. Etc. You usually get these with your knife. Many samples aren't detected by the scanner room so you'll need to observe the world and scan things.

These become important later on with advanced materials and such.

Exploration. Experience. And sometimes scanner rooms.

In most cases you don't necessarily have to go looking for specific resources. As you follow the PDAs and radio messages and other story progression hooks, the game will typically lead you to most of the places that have the new resources you need.

Example: A PDA you find on the >!floating island!< leads you to >!the Degasi base in Jellyshroom!< where you find magnetite. The beacon for >!lifepod 19 !!Sunbeam plotline!< leads you to the >!mountain island !<where you find shale and lithium and such.

How can I understand what type of ship or multi-tool has what bonus?

Posted by Top-Abbreviations452 · in r/NoMansSkyTheGame · 2 months ago

I came across a table that presents that different types of multi-tools have bonuses to mining/scanning or damage, but I did not see any information about such a bonus on the multi-tool itself.

How can I understand that a certain type of multi-tool (and probably a ship) has such a hidden (???) bonus?

Also, if you have any suggestions for best options, please leave them.

Thanks in advance to everyone

Thanks for the table

Are these the original ship stats without any modifications?

Is it possible to see this stats in-game?

Do they not have a spread like the bonus percentages of the multi-tool?

1 upvotes on reddit
DavidManvell · 2 months ago

These are the base stats without bonuses and there is or is not a way to see him in game depending on what system you're on. You can mod your game up if you have like a PC or something and will allow you to see certain things that you can't do on like a console for example and each ship does have it's own uniqueness. But this is really good as a general rule. That's why I use a lot of exotic royal ships

Thank you very much, very interesting resource

There are a couple of photos that need to be corrected, the information is outdated.

  1. So how can I see the spread in bonus percentages marked in the multitool?

  2. Judging by the photo: the best choice for scanning is experimental or royal, for mining it is atlantide, for damage santineles or autophages?

The only way to find the true base stats of a multitool, starship, or freighter is to examine them in a save editor, which you can only do on PC (and possibly Mac).

1 upvotes on reddit
DavidManvell · 2 months ago

That's the one thing you really can't tell what the spread is. At least without some kind of a mod. And for item number two correct. As a general rule though you'll find that if you just get one really good multi-purpose tool like a royal you really don't need to switch back and forth. I've tried to use several different multi tools and it's just not worth the effort.

2 upvotes on reddit
T
TerriblePurpose · 2 months ago

The info provided by the others is the best resource.

As for suggestions, mine would be: don't worry about the bonuses. In the long run, they don't really matter much. Once you kit your MT or ship out with S or good X class upgrade modules, the differences between tools/ships are minor. Just go with the aesthetics you like best.

5 upvotes on reddit
Top-Abbreviations452 · OP · 2 months ago

Thanks for the advice. And have a nice game

This is a habit from other games and it appeared like this: I want to change my starting multitool... but what to? what is the difference between them (besides the visual)? how to find the required one... and then I came across the fact that there are hidden bonuses (or not, if they can be checked inside the game)

1 upvotes on reddit
T
TerriblePurpose · 2 months ago

I totally get you. I've a long history of playing RPGs and min/maxing the hell out of everything. But this game doesn't require it and I eventually came to be comfortable just rolling with whatever I liked the looks of (I do make sure I get S class tools/ships though... :P)

Anyway, good luck in your travels and stay safe out there, Interloper!

2 upvotes on reddit
f0xw01f · 2 months ago

Shuttles, explorers, and sentinel interceptors have a launch cost bonus (you can launch a shuttle six times on one full charge, vs. four times for a fighter).

Haulers allow more cargo slots to be installed.
