Major Professional Tournaments
The United States hosts several prestigious golf tournaments that attract top players from around the world. The most notable among these is the U.S. Open, which is one of the four major championships in professional golf [5]. Other significant tournaments include The Players Championship, often referred to as the "fifth major," and the PGA Championship
[1:1]. These events typically feature elite golfers like Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, and others.
Affordable Options for Viewing Top Players
For those looking to attend tournaments without breaking the bank, there are several options. The Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Memorial Tournament are known for being more affordable while still featuring top-tier players [1:1]
[1:2]. The Waste Management Phoenix Open is also highlighted as a fun and affordable event
[1:3]. Prices can vary, but attending on less popular days or purchasing tickets early can help reduce costs
[1:5].
Amateur Tournaments
For amateur golfers interested in competitive play, the GolfWeek AM Tour offers tournaments across the country with varying levels of competition based on handicap [2:1]
[2:2]. The tour provides opportunities to play at renowned courses such as TPC Scottsdale and Whistling Straits
[2:1]. It's a reputable organization that was previously associated with the Golf Channel
[2:7].
Historical and Exciting Tournaments
Some tournaments have become legendary due to their historical significance or thrilling finishes. Examples include the 1986 Masters, where Jack Nicklaus made a stunning comeback, and the 2008 U.S. Open, famous for Tiger Woods' victory despite injury [3]. Other memorable events include the Duel in the Sun at the 1977 Open Championship and Ben Hogan's heroic win at the 1950 U.S. Open
[3:1]
[3:5].
Recommendations Beyond Discussions
If you're planning to attend a tournament, consider factors such as location, accessibility, and amenities offered at the venue. For an immersive experience, look into multi-day passes or hospitality packages that might offer better value. Additionally, exploring local amateur tournaments can provide a chance to engage with the sport more actively.
I looked into the US Open for next year and it’s $650 a ticket which is a little steep for me. Any US (all states) based tournament that is relatively affordable that may contain the top pros like Koepka, Woods, Johnson, Spieth, Rory, Fowler, etc.
Thanks
The Players, The Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Memorial, WGC Dell Match Play, WGC FedEx St Jude should all have most of the top players. I live in L.A. and the Genesis gets most of them too since it's hosted by Tiger. The PGA is usually a little cheaper than the US Open as well.
Thank you! Just trying to take my Aunt out, the one who got me into the game way back.
I went to the Arnold Palmer last year and it was amazing. Highly recommend that tournament!
Waste management is affordable and the most fun. If that isn’t exactly the tournament you’re looking for I cannot recommend the memorial enough!
Thanks!

It’s not 650 a ticket unless it’s an all week pass or something special like all inclusive tomorrows tickets on stub hub is around 200 with fees so what are you wanting to pay? I went to Sunday at the players championship for around 50 bucks and that has all the top players
I was honestly looking for an all week pass. I was hoping for $300 for 4 days and if not that definitely a Sat/Sun weekend. That’s what’s in my head at the moment.
Must be insanely easy to get into a golf course without paying though.
Hey Guys!!
I’ve been wanting to get into competitive golf but I don’t really know where to start.
I found some tournaments in my area using the link below to the US Am Tour website but I am unsure how reputable this organization is as conducting tournaments.
If someone can give me and idea of where I can find tournaments to play in or if they have had an experience with the US Am Tour, please leave a comment below!!
https://www.usamtour.com/amateur/programs/usamtour/index.html
Thanks!!
Golfweek am tour. Depends on where you live of course. But check out the different tour regions on their site. I really enjoy this tour, people have been great, courses even better
Where are you located? They have different schedules for each region of the country
My company does all the awards for each tournament in the upstate region of South Carolina
I am in the NYC area. I know you can drill down to your region...
I play in the GolfWeek AM Tour. GolfWeek AM Tour
Ive played for the last 3 years and love it. They have tournaments all over the country and have big tournaments that you can travel to and play course like TPC Scottsdale, Whistling Straights etc. They also do it by flights and handicap so it's competitive for all skill levels.
I just joined this year for the first time (Louisiana South) after playing with a dozen or so randoms over the past year who play on it and hyped it up. Excited about getting in some good tournament golf!
Nice! Yea ive had nothing but great experiences and met some really good golf buddies through it as well. My tour, in Denver, has about 60 guys each week.
Thanks! I will have to check this out!
I know a guy that played in the AM tour and he loved it. He said the courses were a lot of fun in particular but he did have to get his handicap down far enough to play in the non handicapped flite. I have no idea how true it is but there is supposedly a lot if sandbagging going on.
>there is supposedly a lot if sandbagging going on.
Any tournament that uses handicaps/flights is guaranteed to have a sandbagging problem. It's inescapable.
It's what was the golf channel am tour, it's legit
I assume BlueGolf took this over from Golf Channel?
It was on blue golf even when it was golf channel. It's all the same tour directors from Golf Channel. Pretty much just renamed it when golf channel dropped sponsorship
Tried to find a list to learn some about some older tournaments or ones I’m overlooking, but I’m not talking best event. I’m asking which tournaments have been the most exciting/entertaining/historical that make you want to hop in the Delorean and go watch in person. I’m talking 1986 Masters, 2008 US Open, 1999 US Open, 2019 Masters, 1950 US Open, etc.
I’ll add a few more..
1913 US Open (Francis Ouimet)
1977 Open Championship (Duel in the Sun)
2000 PGA (Tiger vs Bob May)
2004 Masters (I know most people on here hate him now, but Phil’s back nine rally to finally breakthrough was great)
I will have to look into the 1913 US Open. Wanted to add that Tiger PGA but felt like my examples were already too Tiger heavy. Think I would add the 2021 PGA over Phil’s breakthrough but I absolutely overlooked the duel in the sun. Phil and Henrik’s duel might be up there as well.
2015 US Open, the last 3 holes with Spieth and DJ were nuts
What so special avout 50 us open??
You know that famous black and white photo of Hogan holding his finish on a long approach shot? That was him holding a one iron on the 18th hole on Sunday needing a par to force an 18 hole playoff that he would go on to win, just 16 months after a car wreck so devastating that doctors thought would render him unable to walk.
U just made to cry 😭
2016 open henrik and philthy made it an epic tussle.

Just a reminder LIV reportedly threw a BAG at Adam Scott and he turned them down cold. He definitely feels like he should have more than one major, I'm pulling hard for him tomorrow
That doesn't surprise me, Scott has always been all class, but he still deserves credit. I don't hate everyone who went to LIV, but I do think less of pretty much all of them, so it's only fair that I give credit to guys like Adam Scott or Justin Rose, who very easily could have justified taking the bag and effectively retiring from competitive golf. They both stuck around and kept grinding, it's been really great to see them rewarded with good showings in majors in their mid forties.
Yup that's exactly how I feel. At their age that money and promise of less travel and golf (although in reality that's debatable) had to be so tempting. They stayed on the PGA Tour knowing they'd have to work their ass off for maybe a few more chances at big wins, and they've both been rewarded
Adam Scott should have won the open in 2012. He collapsed on the back 9 in that one
But yea I agree he feels like a guy who should have two majors
So many of the big names you want to contend are right there lurking with some great underdog stories in the lead. It’s going to be a grind on moving day.
Man I love Rory a lot but his media takes have rubbed me the wrong way so much lately. Seeing Scottie’s post round interview just now made me like him even more than I already did.
It’s not hard, man. Just be accessible, a little relatable, and it goes a long way
He's done that though...for over a decade. Think his was only name out there where a club failed testing, yeah I'd be pissed and give them no oxygen then, show them their value when they've no crap to peddle. Let alone with how the pga tour treated him with the whole LIV thing. He owes nothing to nobody, the money men won't like it with their show pony disappearing
Agreed. I thought that he would finally open up more after his Masters win, but he still ducks the media when the going isn't great.
TBF Rory has opened himself up an awful lot in the past but these last few weeks have been a bit strange. Just had to address the Driver situation as the non-story it was and let everyone get back to praising him for his masters win.
I've only closely followed professional golf for the last few years and I don't understand the huge leash this guy gets from his superfans.
He's got "old-school golf elitism" air about him and it's not endearing to me. At all.
yes, but it's easy Karma
And was in a playoff with Rory at The Players. This isn't necessarily wire to wire, but he was never outside the top 5 for 3 days.

PGA has an impressive win list since 2010. Even Jimmy Walker was one of the best players in 2016 before getting Lyme Diseas. My guess is it’ll be another big name this week.
I think unfortunately youll see really low scoring. So much rain there the course will play soft. Seems like perfect conditions for Rory who already plays some of his best golf at Quail Hollow.
If Rory wins this thing (he should be the favorite), fuck it. Let's see the first modern calendar year grand slam. Oakmont should suit him well with his length and the Open is in Norther Ireland this year so he could cap it off at home
Oakmont is a brute. Rory has played exceptional in the last two US Opens, though, finishing runner up each time. But man, that is a tough course. You have to drive it straight and also have to have your putter working on those fast greens. I still remember the carnage from 2007. That year it played impossible.
People hate to hear it when I bring it up, especially online. But when talking about the most monumental feel good wins of recent times I have that in the top 3.
Tiger '19, Rory '25, Phil '21, Tiger '08 and Lowry '19 as my top 5.
I look forward to CBS showing us an absolutely shit broadcast of one of the best events of the year.
I’ve watched at least an hour of every tour event this year (average like 4 hours per weekend) and I’ve been thrilled with CBS and even NBC/GC broadcasts. The Pebble switch over was the biggest frustration but that’s a lot to do with the crappy TV deal vs. the broadcast.
I feel like they’ve got people on the production teams beyond the on-air talent that are golf fans and therefore knowledgeable/passionate about the broadcast. They know what to show and what matters. Golf is extremely hard to broadcast to begin with and I think they do a very good job.
Other than the commercial load which just is what it is at this point, CBS does a great job. NBC/GC aren't in the same league IMO.
CBS has been the top of the broadcast options for a year or more, by far.
Yeah the broadcast is actually fine--when it's not showing commercials, which is about 1/3 of the total coverage time.
I actually timed it yesterday for an hour. Between the full commercials and "eye on the course" they had 21 minutes of commercials during one of the hours.
I know NBC is the same.
Mcilroy is out of form. Doesn't have the fire anymore since winning the masters
That’s what made Tiger was so impressive. Not just climbing that hill, but staying there. Far more challenging.
Old rant... but oh my days we are 35 MINUTES into prime time coverage on Sunday and they have shown ZERO actual live golf. Do they not know that there's this thing called the internet? MY BROTHERS JUST SHOW SOME GOLF!

Really cool to see them battling it out on such a tough test of golf. It’s refreshing to see higher scores for a change.
COMON Bryson
He reached the 670y 12th in two.
...and then 3-putted for par.
Best YouTube golfer the world has ever seen.
And now he won Saturday!
Leaderboard is stacked with Masters veterans
Who else is going to be up there? The filler guys that got contracts because they couldn't buy more talent from the PGA Tour?
Tuned in a little bit yesterday (dialed into March madness today) and Doral rules.
They played a tournament? Wouldn’t have known
We now move on to the 3rd major of the year, the US Open! This year’s US Open will be held at the revered Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. See below for full write-up!
Oakmont CC was originally designed to be an inland links-style golf course, was then transformed to more of a traditional parkland course, and has now been restored back to its original links-style design. The 2023 restoration by Gil Hanse was meant to take the course back to its original beauty and challenge. This resulted in 24,000 square feet of green expansions to allow for more pin locations.
Oakmont CC is going to play as a par 70 around 7,372 yards. It will feature Poa greens that average about 8,500 square feet. There are 168 bunkers covering over 330,000 square feet. There are no water hazards and the fairways average about 28 yards wide. The rough is a mix of Kentucky Bluegrass and Ryegrass and will be grown to about 5” and very thick.
The first thing I’ll be looking at is FAIRWAYS GAINED. I know distance is usually a must for US Opens, but I think the rough is going to be incredibly penal and hitting fairways is going to be a huge advantage this week. The USGA wants players to struggle to make par and Oakmont CC is going to be happy to oblige. We will still factor in DRIVING DISTANCE, but at a lower weight than fairways gained. Ideally we want someone who does both well, but accuracy is more important to me this week. The name of the game is going to be avoiding mistakes, which is why we’ll also be factoring in BOGEY AVOIDANCE. Hit your fairways, hit your greens, avoid 3 putts, and try to sneak in a few birdies. That is what I see being the winning formula for this week.
Next up we’ll talk about some more reality based-stats. The reality is everyone is going to Miss fairways and everyone is going to miss greens. So we’ll look at SCRAMBLING and SHORT GAME to identify the guys who can get out of trouble and avoid the big numbers. In the same vein, we’ll also factor in SAND SAVES for 2 reasons. One, there is just a lot of bunkers on this course so guys will inevitably find a few of them. The second reason is because players would rather be in the bunkers than in the rough, so there will be situations where guys are actually aiming at bunkers.
Next let’s talk about just how hard this course is likely to play. I think we’ll be looking at a winning score around 4-5 under. So we’ll be factoring in STROKES GAINED: DIFFICULT COURSES because we want to find the grinders, the guys who love the challenge and who have patience and good course management skills. We’ll of course factor in STROKES GAINED: APPROACH as always but I’m not going to focus on any specific distance. I think this will demand a very strong all around approach game. Wedges will be important when it comes to scrambling and mid irons will be important on the few holes that provide scoring opportunities.
Lastly, let’s talk a little bit about PUTTING. I’m going to specifically be focusing on putting from 0-5 feet and 5-10 feet because there’s going to be a lot of par putts coming from this range. These are Poa greens so we also want to pay more attention to guys who do well on this surface.
KEY STATS:
I’ve already bet Sepp Straka (50-1 DK), Sam Burns (80-1 DK), Cam Young (150-1 DK), and Matthieu Pavon (400-1 FD). I will be betting John Rahm and Corey Connors but I’m waiting for the odds adjustment because I think they should be priced longer. I’ll get my full card posted asap, cheers!
I was thinking Corey Conners coming in, but on a deeper dive don’t love him. His accuracy is great, but when he misses fairways he misses them badly. His rough proximity range isn’t good at all.
And I do somewhat factor in how guys have done at other courses for US Opens just to see how they handle these type of conditions. Corey Conners has only made 1/9 career US Open cuts.
Sprinkled a little on Scottie and Rory. Cash out was around $35 last week. If Bryson wins will be very hard to not cash out
If Bryson wins I would cash out you have a real good chance at this…. But I’d take anything over 750 if Bryson wins
Astrology guy here - checking in for the US Open! Last week was one for the books as I hit 3 outrights all in the same weekend (never done that before) in Ryan (balls of steel) Fox, Joaquin Niemann on LIV, and the Bjorn/Clarke duo on the champions tour. Looking forward to keeping the momentum going into another major.
This week will not only test the guys physically on the course, but also mentally with all the air energy we will be getting. We’re still under a Gemini sun, but the moon will be in earthy Capricorn Thursday - Friday, then will shift into Aquarius Saturday - Sunday for a double air sign finish (lots of mental snaps incoming). Virgos have been the theme of the month since the Gemini sun highlights their 10th house (the career sector), but this week I’ll also be after Aries, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Taurus placements as well since they all should benefit heavy. My main fade of the week are Scorpio placements (Sorry Bryson and Rahm). Let’s dive in!

Bet the house on the field against Scheffler this week. Altho the best player, he never wins on courses that aren’t oga tour regular courses. Odds way too high
Rory to miss the cut at +325
Yeah he’s admitted that he’s kinda checked out for the year after winning The Masters. Love this bet.
His best finishes were on Poa greens and I think the conditions are going to negate a lot of the advantages the other guys have over him. He also finished 5th in last year’s US Open so it would appear he likes the set-up.
Alright, here’s who I’m rolling with this week:
John Rahm (12-1, boosted to 15-1 BetMGM)
Sepp Straka (50-1 DK)
Sam Burns (80-I DK)
Harris English (100-1 FD)
Patrick Reed (110-1 FD)
Cam Young (150-1 DK)
Matthieu Pavon (500-1 FD)
Joe Highsmith (750-1 Ceasars)
Prop Bets:
Top African - Christian Bezuidenhout (+210 FD)
Top South American - Joaquin Nieman (-140 DK)
First Round Leaders:
Keegan Bradley (66-1 BetMGM)
Davis Thompson (90-1 DK)
Other Bets:
The par 3, 8th hole will play up to 300 yards long. DraftKings offers closest to the pin bets and you can get “no green” from anywhere between +400 to +800 odds depending on the group. I’ll be watching closely as the first few groups go through and if they struggle to hit that green I’ll be jumping on some of those bets.
As always, GL if tailing or fading!
The long par 3 has kinda been the talk of the week. But it’s actually only the 6th toughest hole on the course for these guys. Pretty wide open runway to a huge green. It sounds ridiculous at face value but it’s not hard for these guys to run out an easy 3 wood and 2 putt.
Thank you! I couldn’t believe it, but I’ve been close many a times before on the trifecta lol finally got it.

Viktor Hovland yesterday played like he could have shot 65 but shot 71 because of his putting.
Today he's on track to shoot a 65 with his putting.
Cutting the coverage right before Rory’s putt is disbolical
Adam Scott going 70 70 is pure class.
the world's beigest golfer does it again
Lol. Such an accuracy description.
I believe one of his lab putters was bronze color at one point 😂
Let's hope he keeps it up. I love Adam.
Scottie showing the temper that earned him some hard time.
Hope his probation officer doesn’t see this…..
I saw it. His ass is grass come Monday.
Waiting for him to flip his cap backwards. He almost just did it.

he won the US open last year lol. i don't even like bryson but that's bogus m8. golf is hard
The downfall of Bryson on the last 3 and the rise of Scheffler on the last 5 was insane
Really tired of the “Scottie is boring” shit.
If you can’t enjoy striped drives and some of the best iron play we’ve ever seen then I really question if you’re actually a golf fan.
They're probably new to watching golf. He's an extraordinary talent and the best golfer in the world by a long margin. Absolute strip show with a killer short game top in his class at closing golf tournaments.
Don’t people realize that boring golf is one of the best compliments you could ever get in the game
He seems like a good solid, family man. He jokes around plenty if you saw the Colt Knost videos with him this week. Wanting him to be more outrageous on the course is a contradiction to his game and what makes him so great. I, for one, am very happy Scottie is the best player in the world.
He was on PMT last year. He was awesome, just a normal, funny dude who happens to be the best in the world at something.
Scottie is awesome.
Bryson saying he hit a perfect shot on 17 and got unlucky is why people couldn’t stand him. One of only 3 water balls on the day but he had nothing to do with it.
F yall that think this ‘wasn’t a Major’ or something. The green mile destroyed the field and Scottie played -1 on Saturday and Sunday. That was a well earned PGA Championship.
There’s only one major in my book, LIV Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Edit: This was a joke and I was expected to get downvoted to hell and now I don’t know if it was actually funny or if Saudi bots are in the chat in full force.
Personally, the PGA Championship doesn't really feel like a Major to me cos it doesn't really have an identity. I would like to see it replaced with being hosted at non-US courses
And he exclusively hits a draw. A fade would have held it up against the wind
