Hi. What are the best underrated home gadgets on Reddit that have made your life easier or more efficient?
Thanks in advance!
Definitely the Electric Spin Scruber! Someone recomended it to me here and it honestly saved me from back pains ngl and it also made my cleaning faster,.
I definitely to look into this, my back pains are getting worse. Thanks!
Watch Tiktok reviews, some are garbage & will get stuck under pressure & some actually have really good motors!
Thought it was gonna be one of those useless impulse buys, but the fabric shaver brought my old hoodies and sweaters back to life. So satisfying to use too.
Bidets, trust me! You’ll use little to no tissue in no time
Theres this refrigerator odor eliminator from Purriko my sister got me off the whim after he co worker brought one in for their office fridge to keep the smell down. What it does is basically keeps the fridge smelling cleaner and longer by neutralizing the smell of decomposition as food sits for too long like leftovers, fruits, and veg. Actually replaces baking soda and works twice as good.
At first I wasn't really sold until we had a brown out that lasted 48 hours. Usually everything goes bad by then and the fridge starts smelling but this actually kept everything smell free. Says it last 10 years so we will see but so far so good. I got one also to add under my car seat to help with the hot stale car smell from the humidity we sometimes get here.
This could be anything - a cool gadget, super useful item, decorative, etc.
I'm unsure about the original price as it was a gift, but DEFINITELY my Kymera Magic Wand!
This wand works for real! With a little wand movement, you can control your TV and other appliances! If you are a Harry Potter or fantasy fan, you will adore it!
I don't know if it's the absolute coolest, but I really like my little pocket microscope: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LAX52IQ
And, for $150 you could get the case and cell phone camera attachment and still have plenty leftover to buy cool things to look at. Although I find the coolest things to look at are just random tiny things you happen upon: salt and sugar crystals, bugs, the fibers in a napkin or piece of fabric, hair, sand, carpet fibers, plants, whatever random bit of snoo is on the table/carpet/my shirt, ear wax.
That’s really cool, I’m gonna get my dad one. Thanks for the idea
This is so cool.
I have a friend who would love something like this, but she's a scientist and works with microscopes professionally, so I'm scared of getting her something too Mickey Mouse.
If anyone with experience in microscopes generously felt like providing guidance, I would forever appreciate it.
So I'm not a scientist, but I am an engineer and generally curious person. I remember seeing a college class (at least upper level, possibly grad students) using these while studying tide pools (or something in the tide pools) on a beach in Southern California. Their professor had one and was looking at stuff himself.
This is not the type of microscope you can use to look into cells or see subatomic particles with. But you can see individual fibers in cloth or paper, individual grains of sand, salt, sugar (powdered sugar looks like a clump of tiny snowballs). What I especially like about it is that you don't have to do any special preparation. There are no need to prepare slides. You just put it over whatever you want to look at, turn the lights on (there's a button on the side) and adjust the focus. It's super fast and easy to look at anything stationary.

Sous Vide and vacuum sealer. My husband's favorite present since 3 Christmas' ago
Can confirm, also not her husband.
My husband would say his engraved Leatherman multi tool.
I love my Lampe Berger and making the house smell nice.
Their a particular model you like? Thanks for the idea. Link would be awesome
AirPods!!
Shopping for a present for my little brother, I actually got him these last year haha
Mine is a $10 food catcher for the kitchen sink. Purchased after a teaspoon got stuck in the disposal teeth. Thankfully didn’t have to replace it fully, but did spend $250 to get it out 🙄
[I did try but didn’t have the cool special extra- long pinchers, nor confidence that I wasn’t causing more damage, that the plumber had)
My washer was overflowing because it's in a cold pantry and the drainage pipe was freezing over. We close the pocket door and the heat doesn't get in there.
The water was backing up and overflowing into the floor. Without this it would've gone on the full cycle and sat there all day.
Tip: I called my insurance agent and let them know I had these in addition to smart smoke/CO detectors that notify my phone and I got a small discount on my Home Owner's insurance
I have several that work with Tuya, same app as a ton of my smart home devices. It'll beep and send a push notification to my phone via wifi.
I inherited mine. The world’s smallest adjustable wrench. It’s the size of my index finger, I’m a woman with small hands. We’re nothing else will work this will. In generator engines, lawn mowers, even taking apart one of those pop up covered car ports. It’s been a life saver and it’s older than I am and I’m 57.
I just ended up with one cleaning my in laws house! And the tiniest socket wrench too! I've used both this weekend.
Those sensors are great. Ours saved us from slow WH leak that would have eventually ruined the flooring downstairs. However we bought one after a serious WH failure that ruined the flooring downstairs. More a fool me once, fool me twice situation :)
The ones I purchased not only have an audible alarm but send me a test email once per week with battery level reading.
Fixed my dryer twice with nothing but YouTube and a few dollars of eBay parts (manufacturer doesn’t sell them any more).
So true. My husband has fixed both our washer and dryer as well as our garbage disposal this way.
YouTube showed me how to replace the $400.00 Miele Dishwasher part that went out literally three days after the warranty expired with a $10.00 Whirlpool dishwasher part.
Ours is a Procter-Silex, but it is as bare bones is one gets (exactly what we like). If no waiting and extra features like thermometers is what you want, this one is not the one for you.
My mom thinks I’m a savant because I can fix all kinds of stuff. I just watch YouTube videos and follow the steps.
The Moen ones are pretty good for this, but they're way too expensive now for me to wholly recommend. They were $70 when I bought a 3-pack a little over two years ago, now they're $125.
I’m looking to find those small, affordable Amazon gadgets that end up being way more useful than expected. What’s your favorite cheap find?

I was about to add this. I think the adapter runs around $30 and it’s simple to install on a standard toilet. It’s a game changer!
I wouldn't say my $30 bidet is BIFL, but it certainly is great. I've had to repair it a couple of times in the 5 years I've had mine. That being said, the reduction in toilet paper will pay for itself within the first year. My wife and I got through a roll of TP in a week. So a 12 pack of the good stuff literally lasts us 3 months.
A kitchen screw driver. One of the small palm sized ones that has the bits in the handle. Throw it in the junk drawer and now you don't have to go to your tools when something needs a new battery.
A quality travel mug. My wife loves her contigo and I love my yeti.
i have one of those screw drivers in my kitchen drawer! not kidding, the screwdriver is the size of my palm and it's called the "teeny turner" (it says this on the handle haha!) - i've had this thing for over a decade and it's the best for small/quick fixes.
I keep my Leatherman in the kitchen for that and use it almost daily
You can get one of those for under $50?
We got ours for $39 at Costco.
Do you have an example of one that's buy it for life? I've seen a number of those cheap amazon ones break.
Yeah, I want one, but I think it will have to be heated. Our water is like ice. Anyone have a recommendation for a heated bidet?
Fellow dads, I need your help.
My wife asked me what I want for Christmas.
She is really good at getting meaningful gifts, but I don't really want any more stuff. What I want is time together back in our lives. We have twin toddlers and not a lot of budget to buy a Roomba or other "big" time-savers.
What do you have that is under $50 that saves you time, sanity, or anything else to give you more time & sanity for the wife & kids?
If you’re not already on the bandwagon: a 10” or 12” cast iron. We use ours all the time. Its great to cook with once you get the hang of it and you can pass it down for generations. In 100 years your great great grandkids will be cookin’ up dinner on grandpappy u/IdahoJoel ‘s old casti
Not just any old cast iron. Get one of the newer "thin" ones or a carbon steel pan.
I have one by Lancaster, but it was like $150 when I bought it and they are more now. They have ones of amazon that aren't as heavy as a Lodge, but are really solid and still hold heat really well.
If you get a cheap one watch for the finish on the inside. Even if they are pre seasoned I take a 120 grit sandpaper with a block to the inside, get it mostly shiny, take it to 240 grit, wash with soap and water then season.
We have that. Great idea!
What do you think you spend the most time on?
Maybe there's a better way to do dishes (like a good drying rack or dishwasherable baby food containers), or laundry (better diaper pail or drying racks? Mesh laundry bags for all the little clothes?) or food prep (a decent blender?) that would help you out.
Someone mentioned an air fryer, which are great, but I also need to toss in a crock pot if you don't have one. There is so much great food you can make with like 5 minutes of prep time and they almost always come out with enough leftovers for a couple days.
What’s your favorite?
Not religious but if my air fryer was Jesus Christ I'd worship it.
We got one when wife was pregnant with the twins. Good investment.
You sound like my wife. I am more of a devoutly practicing Dutch Ovenist. :D
I see your god, and raise you a pressure-cooker-air-fryer-combo and command you to bow to the glory that is, well, arguably more expensive than $50… so 😐
Which brand!? I need this! But there are so many options. I don’t are if it’s 150.
If your house has two floors, a secondary place to change diapers. Changing pad, basket for diapers and whatnot, etc.
Best thing we did so far was create the ability to change diapers upstairs or downstairs. Pretty cheap to have two of everything.
Bidet!!! I loved my bidet so much I got one for the other bathroom just in case I poo in there. Best money I ever spent.
Difficult to install?
Nope! I have these. Just take the seat off and connect the water supply and put the seat back on. Our TP usage dramatically decreased which is good because I insist on Charmin Ultra soft. No more hundred wipe shits. Just a quick wipe to dry off and make sure everything is clean.
Depends on the bidet and your toilet/plumping. I installed mine a about two weeks ago and it took a little over an hour and the pressure on my sink still is low.
Instapot. I'm shit at cooking so I ate out a lot. Now I can throw whatever I want in there and I have a nice home cooked meal and saving money
Did you ever use a crock pot before? I have a crock pot and wondering if it would make sense to get an instapot - my understanding is it's basically the same thing but just cooks faster.
Never used a crockpot before but the instapot makes my meals in 45 minutes or less. Meat always perfectly cooked. So are the vegetables. Doesn't a crockpot take hours?
Pretty much. I've seen some comparison videos online and crock pot does some things better with the low and slow method but mostly the instapot can cook all kinds of things faster with the added use of high pressure. The instapot though does have a crockpot setting too.
I've got one too. Handy device.
Microwavable ramen/noodle bowl from the Japanese dollar store. That plastic thing is a lot more useful than just noodles TBH.
Professional grade tinfoil and cling film cutters. No more shitty stupid cardboard boxes breaking every 2nd use.
A lollipop, the very moment my father gave me my first lollipop it changed my life forever, from that moment forward I would crave sugar to the point that it would damage my teeth irreparably however I'm doing a lot better about it now, as the old saying goes "you don't appreciate what you got until it's gone"
My vibrator. I’m not joking. Being able to get off has really helped with my anxiety, and for some reason my hands have never done the job on their own.
I’m pretty good with my hands. Would be happy to lend a hand if you needed it.
No thanks! I’ve already got three, another hand might just make it crowded down there.
Magic wand?
Oh god no. I’m too poor for one of those. Mine is just some kinda dinky knockoff, but it gets the job done.
Power sander. To think after all those years of doing it by hand, I could have saved myself so much time.
My dog, he was $30.
My cats. It was buy one get one free so we came home with 2. They literally fill my heart with joy.
A power sander. You know, an electric hand held belt sander that if you leave it too long in one spot it digs a hole? Yeah, one of those literally saved me hours and hours and hours when I went to sand my parents deck in the back yard. To think I used to do that stuff by hand.
a water bottle. This is not a joke.
insulated or not?
I recently started using an insulated metal one to hold ice so I had ice for a cold drink when I took my lunch break and was amazed at its ability to keep ice solid for hours (of course I've only used it in winter so far, but the interior of my vehicle was warm).
Its nice because I can't ever say I don't have something to drink. Best 16 bucks I've ever spent.
Weighted blanket with cooling technology.
I've been looking for a weighted blanket for years, but they are always that super light, fluffy and soft material. I just want a old school cotton quilt type with weights, not some unicorn poop loaded with bb's. I freakin hate those kinds of materials
I'm sure someone can sew together some plate weights into a potato sack for you...
Buy a duvet cover and stuff the weighted blanket in there. These are not common in my country but Ikea carries them.
I think this is mine- https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/ofelia-vass-duvet-cover-and-pillowcase-s-white-00133024/
Pocket pussy 🤣🤣🤣
Squatty Potty, that thing is magic
A water pick to clean your teeth and gums.
Darn Tough socks
Mace.
Deodorant, and you can keep the change you filthy animal.
Some smelly as people gonna b mad at this
Well my nose is mad at them.
Instant read meat thermometer...
Take the guesswork out of cooking, make better food...
