I’m looking to adding more activity apps to my phone and I’d like to do more puzzles. I’d love to do stuff like Cryptograms, crossword puzzles and Jumble puzzles. Does anyone recommend any apps that specialize in these, but are free and not bombarded by adds or unnecessary charges?
>!There is an app called puzzle page that has a lot of daily puzzles like sudoku, crosswords, picture path and so many more. and you can go back and do old ones. I have the subscription so idk what you will get without it but I'm pretty sure it's a good amount still.!<

Do you have any puzzle websites or apps you frequent?
I’m looking for puzzles outside the normal word searches or sudoku games.
I like word puzzles like wafflegame.net and wordel. I’ve tried a couple cryptogram apps just wondering what everyone else is playing!
Puzzmo! They have many puzzles that have some strategy to them! I use a “subscription” through my library’s Hoopla 💕

Previous comment I made a few months ago for a similar question:
Check out Griddlers.net for tons of free puzzles on desktop. They also have a subscription option that allows you to solve puzzles offline and has a few other features that help make solving easier (and it helps to keep the site running).
Costs aren’t bad. $5 for 1 month, $25 for 6 months, and $40 for a year. They also offer family plans and senior/student discounts.
Also, if you’ve been a subscriber and something happens that you can’t afford it anymore, this is the type of company that if you email them, will give you extra time for free.
I have no official connection to this site. I’ve just been a loyal customer for over 15 years.
That’s nice to hear they’ll give you extra time if you can’t afford it. Thanks!
Hi! Does anyone have any good puzzle apps to recommend? Something a bit more flavourful than a sudoku, but nothing too complicated. Preferably without an ad after every puzzle!
Tents and Trees
Cubistry
Two Dots
Alchemy
Rusty Lake series
Flow
I Love Hue (and the 2nd one)
I can't remember the names, but there was a fun anagram puzzle app and one with cyphers that were fun.
I like nonograms :)
I like Einstein Riddle. They're little picture-based logic puzzles. No ads, lots of levels, varying levels of difficulty.
Hi. I sent 2 unique puzzle game. Check messages
If you like Sudoku and looking for something more challenging, might I suggest dailykillersudoku.com it's a website but it works great on mobile. I absolutely love this website, it's just one guy who makes them and hosts the website.
Killer sudokus are like regular sudokus but has no number, instead it has these groups of 2 or more boxes that add up to a number. You can slove them by combining maths and sudoku strats. On the website you'll find more explanations if it sounds confusing.
No timers, that's stressful.
With preferably as little micro-transactions or ads as possible.
I know it's a big ask, but I'm asking... 😮💨
Would you like to try my first android game. It was published a week ago. It is based on the Mastermind board game with some fun twists.

Try my game Runes: Puzzle
I'll give it a shot!
Try mine, Mummy Maze: Pocket Edition
Shameless plug 😉 https://frankgoyens.itch.io/dangerzones
Mobile friendly, no download, no ads or mtx
I don't trust this link, nor do I trust you. At all!
May I ask why? itch.io is just a website that hosts games.
If you like block puzzles you can check out my game: Brick Busterrr
It's a block puzzle game with some rougelite elements, item usage, HP management, and unlockable tools! :)
Discussion: I've really liked ones by Conceptis Puzzles lately. On android at least they have free to play ones without ads including weekly bonus puzzles (though it's money to buy additional packs). The pic-a-pix one is a neat play on suduku.
Seconded, I was really hooked on nurikabe for a while. A healthy free sample of puzzle packs is included in each app and I felt the IAP for more packs were a good value for the cost.
Discussion: please us the "not seeking solutions" flair so all our comments don't get removed for not having spoilers. As for my recommendations, Simon tanthams puzzle collection, I think it's called. It will entertain you for hours. Also sugar game by bart bonte
Discussion: Agent A: a puzzle in disguise. Best puzzle game I ever played.
Also "the last door" , it's a pixelated point and click adventure. The story is quite well written.
"The silent age" : another point and click adventure. Storyline involving time travel and puzzles are good enough.
The room series :as mentioned by someone else in the comments. There are quality puzzles.
The adventure escape series : They have a lot of different games on PlayStore and the quality of game varies with each one of them.
" Layton brothers mystery room" : Played it long time back. Not sure if it's still there on playstore but it was detective mystery puzzle game.
"No bodies" : mentioned by someone else in the comments. Definitely recommended. A very fresh idea.
"The frostrune" : another game I have heard a lot about but never played. You can give it a shot.
The cube escape series(rusty lake series): have played few games from this series. Good enough.
I played some of the Frostrune, it is very high quality but not really a puzzle game.
The Guides Axiom is pretty good. One of those ones that doesn't really tell you what to do, it just lets you work it out.
I started playing this game after seeing your post, it seems fun! It looks like axiom might be the second game in a trilogy (but the only one free to install), do you know if there's any benefit to playing them in order?
Might have played this or something quite similar but I'll check it out thanks!
If OP hasn't played Baba is You, this is the correct answer. One of the best puzzle games of the last decade. I didn't even know it was on mobile until yesterday.
Never played a game that made me feel so brilliant and then so stupid all mixed together. It is viciously hard in later levels.
Mind bending solutions!
Didn't know it was on mobile thanks!
Hello,
Does anyone have any recommendations for puzzle apps and/or web sites that have a variety of puzzles in them?
I already use Puzzle Page, and I’m a fan of puzzles like Killer Sudoku and Futoshiki.
But I don’t really mind what type of puzzles, I like a variety to test my brain.
Many thanks.
Discussion: I run these:
oh hey, I do logiquiz sometimes. The last couple days I did all 5.
Are the questions all generated programmatically?
Great! Yes, they are.
Edit: congratulations on finishing all five. The harder levels are really freaking hard.
Thank you kindly, much appreciated!
Discussion: Try circle9puzzles.com
No s at the end of the url.
Discussion: Logic Masters Germany is mostly variant sudokus, but there are a good deal of other puzzle types there, too.
Thank you very much, I do like the different sudokus, so it’s good it has those and other puzzles.
Discussion: Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection
Reposted because the automod does not appear to know the difference between a puzzle post and a question post.
Excellent, thank you kindly for that suggestion, I will go and check it out!
Discussion:
https://puzzlepass.io/en/ has daily puzzles.
https://krazydad.com/ has a large database of online puzzles as well as printable puzzles.
https://www.printable-puzzles.com/ has, uh, printable puzzles.
https://www.puzzmo.com/today/ has daily puzzles.
https://puzz.link/db/ may be the granddaddy puzzle site.
Superb! Thank you so much!
I am a huge fan of puzzle/logic games. I currently have a logic puzzle of the day calendar and a crossword of the day. I play so many games on so many different apps but I’m looking for a physical puzzle book that is GOOD and CHALLENGING. I did the Agatha Christie Puzzle Book and that was really fun! As well as the NYT Puzzle Mania and the NYT crossword books. Can someone recommend something else?
I’ve done all the Murdles also. I’m looking for something similar to the Agatha Christie puzzle book where there are a variety of puzzles to solve instead of just a crossword or logic puzzle.
Discussion: Are you familiar with logic-masters.de? In my opinion this is where the worlds greatest puzzle setters provide puzzles on a daily basis. They have a great portal to search for puzzles, I recommend trying some of the nicer ones in each difficulty (puzzles have a ‘niceness’ rating and difficulty rating). Try to find the difficulty that suits you and get puzzling. Most puzzles provide a link to solve online in one of the tools
Discussion: you may like the Professor Layton series of games.
Or if you prefer more sudoku but bored of Vanilla, try the Cracking the Cryptic mobile apps. Miracle Sudoku is also a fun one.
Or, if you prefer the logic puzzles as themselves, search for:
Nurikabe
Hashi
Battleship
Star puzzle
Tents and trees
Heyawake
Thermometers
And quite a few more. There are websites devoted to puzzles like these, too. Most for free.
Came here to recommend Cracking the Cryptic. I use the YouTube channel to get the link to the games: https://www.youtube.com/c/CrackingTheCryptic/videos
Those guys are awesome, and brilliant. And the sudokus are interesting variants, not just the boring basic flavor.
Don't forget about Jason Statham Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection
Discussion: montague island series
These are excellent. The puzzles get very challenging. The Murdle logic puzzle books are very basic compared to these.
I enjoyed Journal29. Available on Amazon.

Nonograms - make pictures using numbers on the sides that intersect
Einstein puzzles - assign objects and details in a grid
I'd love for you to check out my sub r/ninigrams, where I post daily nonograms for Reddit!
Every day I play Wordle, Spelling Bee, Connections, Strands, Swiftle, Bandle, Queens, Frogs, and Waffle.
I used to play NYT games every single day with my coworkers, a nice 10min of competition and a quick brain break. But then our agency blocked all the games and we cant have phones inside. So I dont get to play nearly as much anymore, I always forget by thr time I get home. But wordle, connections, spelling bee, were all my favorite. Outside that I love to play scategories or taboo on game nights with friends
I have Apple Arcade as part of my bundle, and really like Grindstone and Stitch. Especially since they’re ad free
I play the NYT games every day, and I also like cross logic puzzles
What apps have you found? I've found two. I'm wondering if other people have other apps that are similar.
And for background, I love jigsaw puzzles, but I can't stand jigsaw puzzle apps, even the really good ones. I just really like physical jigsaw puzzles, and my phone screen is too small, and I have to play with like 50 or 80 piece puzzles otherwise I can't see the pieces, and I just really love 1000 piece puzzles, and I like laying out all the pieces on a big table, so I can see them all, all at once. So, I'm just not excited about jigsaw puzzle apps.
So here are two apps that satiate my jigsaw puzzling needs on my phone without actually being jigsaw apps.
I Love Hue. I recently found this because Karen Puzzles said that she loves this app, for the same reason she loves gradient puzzles, and this app is amazing. It's basically all the fun parts of sorting pieces. It's way more enjoyable than sorting though. And the puzzles are all basically cool gradient puzzles.
Cubistry. This is a matching game, but I love it for the same reason I love jigsaw puzzles. In jigsaw puzzles, I'm trying to match a piece with another piece. And so even though this is a piece matching, elimination game, it really gives me jigsaw vibes. And I love that it's 3D, and you can easily turn it around.
What about you? Have you played either of these apps and do they remind you, or not remind you of jigsaw puzzles? And what other apps do you like for the same reason you love jigsaw puzzles...that aren't jigsaw puzzle apps.
As I started reading, I was all ready to say, "I Love Hue!!!" because that is the first one that came to mind, and I really enjoy it. I haven't really gotten into "I Love Hue Too" as much though. I'm not sure why that is.
The other app style that came to mind for puzzles that aren't puzzles, but where you end up with an image in the end is/are PathPix, especially PathPix Max. I have spent hours working through all of the images and artworks. I highly recommend the Max, as it has 114 giant puzzles, with over a million squares total, so you get a lot of bang for your buck.
I'm also a Pathpix fan! Have you also tried nonograms?
Yes, and I love those as well, but I find them more of a logic puzzle than jigsaw-like. I guess you do end up with a picture at the end though! I came across an app called Picture Puzzle Collection that was done by Konami. It is all nonogram puzzles, but the images are from vintage video games (thus, the pixels...ha!). It was free the last time I checked, and it had tons of puzzles to do, plus varying levels of difficulty. The "final round" had you completing all of the puzzles without the ability to fill in any blank (negative) spaces until you had the positive blocks for the row placed. It was SO CHALLENGING, yet so rewarding. It took me at least a year to finish all of them.
Similar to PathPix are picture block-type puzzles, where instead of making a line of colour, you have to "block" your colours, so an area that says "9" might involve making a straight line that is nine boxes long, or drawing a 3x3 grid of colour. Block-a-Pix is one such app, but I don't know if there are others.
I love nonograms, but only the ones in printed books. For some reason, I really can't get into them on the phone.
I have a couple logic-based games that I really love, that I think are sort of puzzle-like:
Pathpix has you connect pairs of colored numbers to create a picture. I like the ones by KpixGames.
Nonograms gives you information about how many squares are shaded (vs empty) in each row and column of a grid to create a picture. Nonograms 999 is my favorite.
We must have been writing our recommendations at about the same time! I will have to look for Nonograms 999. I don't think I have looked at that one before.
I'm another fan of nonograms too. I bought a huge book of them and rip out a page so I can sit in the bath and do them.
Happy Color. It's a color by number app that has lots of different art styles and is very satisfying to play. To me, it gives a similar fulfillment as puzzles because you're meticulously completing something bit by bit. Free to play, but you can pay a few bucks to remove the ads.
Just wanted to add that there is an I Love Hue Too if you didn’t know! It’s more geometrical so has a bit more of a real puzzle vibe
It’s so addicting, I used to play it before bed but I think I pavlov’ed myself to fall asleep every time I play it now lol
I love Puzzle Page (I am a subscriber). It's logic puzzles and things of that nature, but it does scratch that jigsaw itch. And sometimes they have events where you are completing puzzles to get the pieces to do a jigsaw in-app. Probably my favorite phone app ever.
Hi! Are you into scifi at all? I am working on a daily sci-fi crossword app.
It's now on testing (Google play store). If you're interested I'd be happy to add you to the beta testers!
Do all the Exit escape room boxes. They are $10-15 each and very high quality across the board, although some are too challenging. They also have amazing advent calendar adventures.
This is a great shout. I like the Unlock series as well, but they skew easier than Exit.
