What Redditors are Saying

Creatures in the Lost River in Subnautica

Ghost Leviathans

The Lost River is home to juvenile Ghost Leviathans, with three juveniles residing within this biome [3:1]. These creatures are known for their intimidating presence and can be found near entrances such as the Blood Kelp Zone [3:2]. While they can be aggressive, some players find juvenile Ghost Leviathans to be less hostile compared to other leviathans [3:8].

Warpers

Warpers are another significant threat in the Lost River. These creatures have the ability to teleport and can pose a danger to players exploring the area [2:6]. They are known for being particularly troublesome when navigating through the biome [5:6].

Crabsquids

Crabsquids inhabit areas around the Lost River entrances, particularly in zones like the Deep Grand Reef [5:1]. They are sensitive to light, which means turning off lights on vehicles like the Seamoth can help avoid attracting them [5:6].

Other Fauna

While not explicitly mentioned in the discussions, the Lost River also features unique flora and fauna that contribute to its eerie atmosphere. Players often encounter various types of fish and plant life that add to the biodiversity of this mysterious biome [1:1].

Exploration Tips

Navigating the Lost River requires careful planning due to its challenging environment and hostile creatures. There are multiple entrances to the Lost River, including those in the Blood Kelp Zones and the Deep Grand Reef [5:2], [5:3]. Understanding the layout and using stealth tactics can improve the chances of successful exploration without disturbing the resident creatures [5:4].

Pretty much where I put it.

Lost River isn’t the end game, but it’s at the door steps of it. Obviously you can only go a lil deeper

But you could feasibly go there fairly early if you made that choice. But I think most average players first time there they are likely nearing the end of their first play through

bro that’s what i’m saying, that thought just makes the lost river that much cooler

1 Is the shallows, kelp forest, and grassy plateau, 2 are things like the jelly caves, mushroom forests, and aurora, 3 are the other areas around the map you explore, 4 is lost river and finishing the deeper parts of the other areas, and 5 are the lava zones

in my opinion anyway

Late game. People who say mid game are bonkers. There is like…. 5% of the game’s content after Lost River. It’s cool content. But it’s still very speedable. No voice logs. No pdas. No survivors.

No one else got as deep as you.

Exactly, I make a pass with the Seamoth for resources, construct what can be constructed for a bit deeper, then move in for late game encounters.

Having just finished a hardcore run, I think 5% is a bit of an exaggeration. I'd say a solid 30% of my hardcore game was based in my secondary, Ghost Tree base - my main base for all endgame content.

Granted, it was hardcore mode, so I did a good chunk of careful exploration down there, but still. There's a good amount of story there, it's just more you-focused. Thermal plant + the lava lakes and the emperor means lots of back and forth from surface to the PCF. I think if you speed through it sure, it's fast, but I'd argue you can speed through a lot of the beginning of the game in a similar way!

Late game.

It might be middling in how much more you're going to keep playing, but by the time you've explored the River you've already found most of the tools you can play with.

Yeah, the last two biomes are pretty big. Unless you've memorized the layout of the ILZ you could take a bit to make your way through.

First time I found myself there I was somewhere about 2-3. That was a lot of fun. There quite by accident, under equipped, and kept prodding in and out scanning things and collecting resources then running away again.

Subsequent playthroughs I'd agree with your numbering.

I think you underestimate things in the game that aren’t physical space. In terms of crafting, story, biome diversity, discoveries, logs, and flora/fauna documentation…. The remaining game after the lost river is reskinned fauna, lizards, kyanite, a two short alien facilities, sea dragons, and…. Yeah. It’s a lot of open space. But not much there to do or explore.

Western Grassy Plateaus look for a big ol’ hole, keep going down and slowly make your way right in the ravine, around 600 metres down there should be an entrance with a light green hue. Best part? No “Raper” Leviathan 😁👍

Because if you're in a cyclops, it's a little narrow and you have to watch your keel cam to avoid bumping into things.

And also it's easy to miss that right-hand turn into the arm of the trench where the entrance is.

Nothing juvenile about that one. One fully grown one lives in the BKZ, and two in the Grand Reef.

There are, of course, three juveniles in the lost river, and the three adults in the void.

plus, if you are not dead set on exploring the area, but instead want to shoot straight down, that is a by far the quickest way. I intend to bar myself from using it for future hardcore runs, it makes the lategame too fast.

It's def not the fastest way. It's the longest corridor to the center room out of all of them. Plus consider that it's the furthest from the shallows. Blood Kelp trench is the quickest

Additional directions: Activate Lifepod 12's beacon and reach the pod, look around for a tall, sharp-ish rock wall. Hug the seabed while slanting off to the left of this wall.

I'm assuming you have a good map and understand the different regions, and also know basically where center point and/or your Lifepod (5) are location relative on the map >!https://preview.redd.it/upw0gq0e7xc01.jpg?auto=webp&s=cbe228d8f9a55f9008c7af7c15d31196e561b30a!<

there are 2 Blood Kelp zones in the world, a large one is north and slightly west (of center point) aka the north/center of the map world. >!this Lost River / cave entrance is guarded by a Ghost Leviathan so you have to "sneak" past it!<

The other BK Zone and cave entrance is smaller, West of center point and slightly south, where the Sparse Reef, some Grassy Plateaus, Sea Trader's Path and the Dunes intersect. >!This entrance is tighter and requires more advanced piloting of the Cyclops, but there's no Leviathan guarding it!<

>!Assuming you're taking the Cyclops down per normal game progression... take plenty of spare Power Cells (I took 2 full changes of 6 cells each... 12 cells) or bring along enough resources to build a base, power it, and recharge station. Also enough resources to build a moon pool + vehicle upgrade station since you'll want those as soon as you get down and harvest the resources so you can upgrade Prawn suit + Cyclops depth!<

i get what you're saying, the warpers were a pain in the ass as were the crabsquids, but i will let you know as it helped me a lot the crabsquids only come after you if you have a light on. So if you're taking your sea moth down there just keep the lights off and you should be fine.

A bit late, but i hope this helps out. The ones in the lost river are Juvenile Ghost leviathans. It's the variant most people meet in their games, for they can be seen in the lost river no matter the path you choose (at least that i can remember). That one is an Adult Ghost leviathan. There are fewer of them, like three or so. One spawns in the northern blood kelp forest and two more spawn on a place i won't say (because I don't want to spoil the fun if you haven't met them yet). The main difference is the size and damage, they even have different entries after you scan them

Build a thermal plant, follow the lifepod 2 signal and you'll see a huge cave entrance, that's the lost river

4 upvotes on reddit
D3V1LD0GGY · 6 years ago

The cyclops can go through the lost river, I would recommend building a bas on the surface and deeper down to mark your journey, as it is where most of the game happens. I believe there is only 2 ways or 1 into the lost river, so it will take a while to get into it each time you travel there from your main base. I would recommend having a farm on your cyclops if you don’t already, it helps a lot.

5 upvotes on reddit
A
az-anime-fan · 6 years ago

There are 4 entrances; all 4 in somewhat dangerous areas. Just look for caves around 350m deep. Now all 4 entrances can be accessed by a Cyclopes; however 2 are really tight fits. One of which is so tight I doubt you’d even think it was doable in the Cyclopes (they all are). The tight fit ones are close to the safe shallows; the easy to navigate ones are WAY out there.

The Lifepod 2 entrance is also the easiest way to get the Cyclops in. I would recomment against take it in your first trip. Take either the 'moth or PRAWN first and poke around a bit until you get at least to the Cove Tree (you'll know it when you see it)

The Cove Tree is a safe area and is an ideal place to put a base. You can safely bring you Cylcops there, but you don't want to get lost with that big thing, so that's why you should explore first.

The Cyclops is a diversion the developers have added to make finishing the game harder.

After my first playthrough, I build a Cyclops (its required for a component), but I never actually pilot it.

2 upvotes on reddit

I don’t think so. It is very useful if you’re going to stay a long time in a place, you can use it as a mobile base. But besides that, it doesn’t have a purpose.

There is an entrance near the center of the blood keep trench, at it's deepest part which I would recommend bringing the Cyclops through, however there is also an entrance at the southern end of the northern blood kelp zone, one in the northern part of the dunes, and a fourth somewhere in the mountains that you could take and I know the Cyclops will fit through all of them except the dunes entrance which I'm not sure of
