TL;DR Deleting and reinstalling the Hinge app does not affect your matches and messages if you use the same login credentials. However, deleting your account is different from deleting the app and can lead to a loss of data.
App Reinstallation
Reinstalling the Hinge app without deleting your account will not affect your existing matches or messages. As long as you log back in with the same credentials, your data should remain intact [5:1]
[5:2]. However, reinstalling the app may not resolve server-side issues or bugs, as these are often unrelated to the app's installation on your device
[1:1].
Deleting and Remaking Accounts
If you delete your Hinge account and create a new one, you will lose all previous matches, messages, and data associated with the old account. Some users have reported fewer likes and matches after quickly remaking their accounts [4:1]. It might be beneficial to wait before creating a new account to avoid potential penalties or algorithmic disadvantages.
Account Bans and Data Management
If you're banned from Hinge, creating a new account can be challenging due to the platform's data retention policies. Users have noted that using the same photos or information can lead to immediate recognition and re-banning [3:1]
[3:3]. For those in the EU, there's an option to request data deletion under GDPR, which might help in removing bans
[3:5].
Fresh Start Considerations
Starting fresh on Hinge by deleting and recreating your account is common, but it doesn't guarantee a better experience. There's no evidence that Hinge penalizes users like some other dating apps do, but results can vary [2:4]. Using a new phone number or email might help in establishing a truly fresh start
[2:2].
In summary, while reinstalling the app won't affect your data if you keep your account, deleting your account means starting over completely. Consider the implications and any potential strategies for managing your data and account status effectively.
This might just be me but every time I get a little suspicious on the app on where my likes went along with these recent glitches of seeing only 5 profile pictures along with the "out of likes" bar. Just wanna know if re-installing the app at least solves the solution when using Hinge for you guys? Cause it has for me in the past and I still tend to still get likes and matches.
Reinstalling does nothing to in app performance.
Reinstalling won't help, because you're installing the same version of the app as you experienced the bugs with. For server-side problems, that won't help either.
If you see any changes in app behavior, it's likely due to the storage and cache for the app on your phone being deleted.
The next time you're tempted to delete and reinstall the app, try clearing your phones cache for the app, first.
I stopped using Hinge 3 years ago because I entered into a long term relationship. However, I uninstalled the app but didn't delete my account. Now that I'm single again, I want to get back on Hinge but I'd like a fresh start. Does Hinge punish you like Tinder does for remaking your account?
No, people do it all the time.
I know I have.
Did you use the same phone number/info? Did you wait a period in between deleting your account and remaking?
I used a new number. Use pingme
Do you still get a new profile boost every time you remake? Do you use the same pictures?
I was banned from Hinge after a revenge report from a date. I’ve used the app for over 4 years with no prior issues, and I’ve tried everything—appealed in-app, emailed them, even filed a BBB complaint. Still no resolution. They responded pretty quick with the BBB and stated that my ban was final and could not be overturned.
I am now in the process of a hard reset as I don't think there is any other option for me. I requested a data download and saw that Hinge has stored around 15 different photos and profile prompts that I had put up.
These pictures that I has used have proven to be successful for me over the years and was wondering if there any apps that could get past being picked up and avoid another ban.
Im going to buy a Samsung (android) phone, use a new number, not verify myself, not use my house wifi , use a new email and updated DOB ,change up my prompts and hope for the best.
Is there anything that I've missed out?
Thanks all xx
This happened to me too. I was with this girl for 4 months, she broke it off, i told her about herself, i saw her profile disappear and then 2 hours later my account got banned 😂.
Cannot use old pictures in my experience.
does this include images that are edited (e.g. reversed or with a filter overlaid on them) or cloaked?
I'm hearing different things now. Again, I don't get away with it because apparently it doesn't change the hash value enough with editing. I want to try turning some of banned ones into video files again to see if that holds up.
How did you download your data, I got an error when I tried to download it. Banned back in Jan
they emailed it to me, i downloaded a zip file which had a lot more info about me than i expected lol
Did they show the actual photos and prompts you used ?
If you live in the EU you can email them and make them delete all the personal data they have of you in accordance to some EU law, i’ve heard that also removes the ban
oh yea? I have an EU number linked with the account but I am on travels for the last year in Asia. Would this still work?
Any leads are useful! thanks
I think as long as you’re an EU citizen it will work
How Can I download my data? After my profile got banned
theres an option on the 'your account has been removed' page that asks you if would like to download your data. its at the very bottom (atleast for me)
So i just deleted my Hinge account, and made a new within 30 min, to get a fresh start. But for some reason im getting way less likes/matches now? Has anyone had similar experience? Maybe i need to wait some days to recreate new account instead?
Well yeah you arent going to get matches off a fresh account day one, especially when many wmn dont pay and have limited swipes per day.
So the more i swipe, the more il Get noticed?
Did you have any luck with matches/likes later?
I do that once a week. Yes.
Yes. If you use the same login.
Many people are posting complaints about the app being down. The issue seems to be that photos and prompts are disappearing from people's profiles - their own and others.
We don't have any answers or insight into the bug anymore than you do. Just know your profile hasn't been deleted, it's a widespread issue.
I'm sure Hinge is aware, but even so, you should submit a ticket to their support to let them know. That should motivate them to fix it.

My stack seems to be rendering normally now, but still can’t properly see the profiles of my matches and it’s telling me my own profile is 0% complete 🥲 Just gonna sit back and chill in the hopes that they get stuff restored in the meantime
Thoughts and prayers for the devs over at hinge who are having a rough morning 🫣
Did it get fixed? Most of my matches profile aren’t loading as well but I’m able to see the conversation
My profile data is back and loading again (phew), and I can see match convos too. But yeah my matches and my likes are all still missing pics and prompts—except for one guy, weirdly. Not sure what Greg’s secret is, he’s the only one whose full profile loads for me currently
there's a problem with the app - chelsea didn't write back to my latest message. hinge, could you notify her?
I was just talking to Chelsea and she's replying super quick
Oh snap -- she must've just missed my message. Tell her to just confirm friday night, thanks.
😂😂
Folks should refrain from saying "Its fixed" until it has been working for at least a half hour to an hour. Because it is definitely not fixed for myself and many others.
Adding a data point that it’s back up for me now after being down for about an hour. On iPhone, in California.
Phew I thought I’m the only one
Yeah my Hinge feels like it’s been down for the last two week 😂😢
I'm on iOS (iPhone XS) if that matters. I don't get app notifications for just this app and it's driving me crazy. I'm considering deleting and reinstalling the app to see if that helps.
Nope. I reinstalled the app recently and everything was how I left it. It's linked to your phone number.
Be careful about creating a new account right away!
I deleted Hinge a few days ago wanting to do the same thing after having the same account for years. I was thinking of waiting 91 days, but I emailed Hinge Support asking if that’s necessary. They told me: “You are welcome to create a new profile at any time. There is no “cooldown period” or similar mechanism which would penalize you based on time between account deletion and re-creation.”
I actually asked the same question about 3-4 times prior, because the previous responses didn’t properly answer me. I suspect the Hinge Support people tend to briefly skim emails rather than answer them properly as to get through them as quickly as possible.
So I figured it was fine to go ahead and create my new account now, but as soon as I input my phone number and email address, it said “this account has been been removed for violating the terms of service.”
Important context: I got banned from Hinge two months ago because I foolishly created a second account without deleting my old account. So what happened to me may happen for you.
I was able to get the ban lifted within two days despite breaking the rules by politely apologizing and assuring I would closely follow the terms of service moving forward. Unfortunately, instead of allowing me to keep the new account I created, they restored access to my old account.
The only possible term of service I could have been flagged for violating is #10: ”You have not previously been removed from our Services or our affiliates’ services by us or our affiliates, unless you have our express written permission to create a new account.”
This technically apply to me because yes, my account was previously removed from Hinge — but I had the ban reversed two days later. My suspicious is that they keep a list of phone numbers / email addresses / etc that have been previously banned so they can automatically remove any new accounts created under them.
When my previous ban was reversed, they must have restored access to my old account but not removed me from the list of users who got banned in the past.
Part of me feels like I shouldn’t be too worried, because the last time last time I was banned, I had actually broken the rules and still got the ban lifted.
This time, I have a paper trail showing that I went out of my way to check with Hinge Support if what I was doing was okay, and I was told yes.
My biggest concern is that whoever looks at my appeal may see I was banned two months prior and not bother to look any closer to see that Hinge Support told me it was okay to delete + recreate.
Since I do have that paper trail, it does give me a strong case but I’m still worried.
When I got my banned lifted from Tinder I waited a week to delete my account as I wanted a break anyways and waited 91 days before making a new account and when I recreated the account again I used all the same information and also verified my account and had no issues. Even though support says you can create a new account at any time what they forget to inform you is that you can create a new account anytime after 90 days.
This part of the ToS when it states "You have not previously been removed from Our Services or our affiliates' services by us or our afiliates, unless you have our express written permission to create a new account." Only applies to people who never got their account reinstated so this doesn't apply to you since you got reinstated and deleted your account.
When I emailed Hinge and asked if there would be any restrictions after being reinstated they mentioned that there would be no restrictions and that the user can delete and recreate your account as any normal person and that all user data is deleted after 90 days such as photos, phone number, face verification, email address, and any user uploaded data if the user decides to delete their account.
the frustrating part is i specifically asked them if i needed to wait 90 days and they said no 😭 i am hoping that since i have the emails where Hinge Support was telling me it’s okay that they will lift the ban
Technically you can recreate a new account within 90 days, therefore that's why they never told you to wait 91 days to recreate your account since the system doesn't restrict you to make a new account. When I say this I am not talking about being restricted by being banned. I would suggest emailing support again and ask them to re-authorize your account.
I used 2 phone numbers for an account by accident, I guess similar to you. my question is when you get only one account unbanned, will it flag the algo if you create a new account and they flag you as fraud again?
Any updates on this mate, how'd it go?
Long story short I felt like I needed to delete my profile, which I regret. I joined again, and now the app feels almost unusable. I had zero problems with the app before and the quality of profiles, likes, matches. But now I’m only seeing what hinge’s algorithm seems to consider less desirable profiles. I realize I shot myself in the foot by deleting, but is there a way to circumvent this, or should I give up and move on.
No, Hinge doesn't punish you for this. Most likely you're just being "explored" by the algorithm because it sees you as a new user, part of that is showing you less desirable profiles for a while.
Hinge does punish you for this unfortunately. Google Hinge shadow ban. Most dating apps do this actually, which is no surprise, they're all owned by the same parent company.
All I find are scammers promising to "unban" you and speculation from users on reddit who probably overestimate their own looks or the quality of their profile.
Nah, I do it all the time although I haven’t since September and it got really good after a month. I think hinge goes from great when you first get it, to absolute garbage after a week, to back to reasonable then stabilizes to match how well you do like wise.
I did the same but I rejoined after 20 days or so. I don't get any likes (never really used to anyways) but get decent matches (5 in my first week). Its just a case of sending those 8 likes out everyday and relying on them to match with you
At least you are having real people. 90% of the profiles i come across are scammers. Always asking to chat on whatsapp.
My Hinge account was recently removed for "violating the terms," but I genuinely have no idea why. I’ve always been respectful and never sent anything offensive or inappropriate, so the removal came as a complete shock.
I tried appealing through the app, but that didn’t go anywhere. Since then, I’ve emailed Hinge support (hello@hinge.co) three times - on Friday, Saturday, and Monday - but I haven’t had any response at all.
The frustrating part is that Hinge has always been the best app for me. I’ve tried Bumble and Tinder, but they just don’t yield the same quality of matches or conversations. Hinge is the one that actually works for me, so losing access has been really discouraging.
Has anyone here had success getting a removed account reinstated? Or if not, is there a way to start fresh with a new account? My phone contract and Wi-Fi are both up for renewal soon, so I might be getting a new number and IP, which I’m hoping could help. I did try setting up a new account with a friends number (from my same phone and Wi-Fi) and didn't last 12 hours!
You’ll never hear anything back from them if your ban is related to terms of service.
They’re insanely ignorant when it comes to appeals I was banned 3 months ago same reason had no idea why or how, tried as hard as I could to contact them but never got anything from them.
Tinder and hinge are both owned by the same company you’re banned off all of that companies apps. Tinder were nice enough to offer some sort of help telling me that I was banned after being reported by someone on hinge but they couldn’t tell me what the message was or help me further because hinge initiated the ban.
But ya give up trying to contact them
Have you managed to set up a new account with Hinge or have you just given up on them completely? It's super frustrating when I know I've not done anything wrong!
I gave up because once they ban your account everything associated with your account is banned I.e your email phone number IP address apple account and photos all show up on the ban
I tried to appeal via app & received email within few days. In order to get verified, they require submission of unexpired government-issued ID or passport (people outside US).
I don’t see why a dating app require such sensitive documentation. Just beware of identity theft.
I’ve emailed them multiple times and got a reply on Tuesday to say my request had been passed to the relevant team, but heard nothing since. It’s very frustrating!
i’ve emailed so many times and still have heard nothing as mine was a revenge report
is there a way to send them a letter by mail?
Mostly as a form letter response
What’s that?
What happens when you delete and reinstall Hinge
Key Considerations When Deleting and Reinstalling Hinge:
Profile Data: When you delete the app, your profile and data may not be immediately removed from Hinge's servers. If you choose to reinstall, you might find your previous profile intact.
Account Recovery: If you use the same phone number or email to log back in after reinstalling, you can recover your previous account. Ensure you remember your login credentials.
Match History: Your match history and conversations may still be accessible if your account is restored. However, if you delete your account entirely (not just the app), all data will be lost.
Notifications and Settings: Reinstalling the app will reset any personalized settings or notifications you had configured. You’ll need to set these up again.
Potential Bugs: Some users report that reinstalling can help resolve bugs or glitches in the app, providing a smoother experience.
Recommendation: If you're looking to refresh your experience on Hinge, consider simply logging out and back in first, or clearing the app's cache (if on Android) before deleting and reinstalling. This can often resolve issues without losing your data. If you do decide to delete your account entirely, be sure to back up any important conversations or matches you want to keep.
