Locations of Degasi Bases in Subnautica

TL;DR The Degasi bases are located in three main areas: the Floating Island, Jellyshroom Cave, and Deep Grand Reef.

Floating Island

The first Degasi base can be found on the Floating Island. This location is above water and features two separate habitats that were used by the Degasi crew for scientific purposes [2:2]. The island is accessible early in the game and provides a safe environment to explore without the threat of underwater creatures.

Jellyshroom Cave

The second Degasi base is located in the Jellyshroom Cave. This area is more challenging due to its depth and the presence of hostile creatures like the crab squid [3:1]. Players often experience difficulty navigating this area, especially if they leave their Seamoth lights on, which attracts crabsquids [3:5]. The Jellyshroom Cave is an essential location for progressing through the game's storyline.

Deep Grand Reef

The third and final Degasi base is situated in the Deep Grand Reef. This area is known for its eerie ambiance and dangerous inhabitants, including warpers and crabsquids [5:7][5:10]. Many players find this biome intimidating due to its claustrophobic nature and aggressive creatures [5:11]. Despite these challenges, the base contains valuable resources and items, such as the orange tablet [3:2].

Exploration Tips

Navigating to and exploring these bases requires preparation and strategy. It's recommended to park your Seamoth or Cyclops at a safe distance from hostile creatures [5:9]. Using tools like the stasis gun can help manage threats like crabsquids [3:9]. Additionally, following radio signals and crafting necessary equipment will guide players to these locations [1:7].

ORIGINAL POST

Hey, I spoilered this post just as a pre-caution bc I'm not sure what these things are, but whats a degasi seabase and where do I find it? I know that they're on land but I've only been to the island with the gun so dont know where to find them. Are they on that same island? I dont really like to google things like this just to avoid spoilers

We cant tell you what Degasi is without major spoilers.

Eventually the radio will guide you, so don't worry.

actually the radio doesn't mention or lead directly to any Degasi site. as close as it gets is the island marker that indirectly will lead explorers to find the island habitats. the other bases are all triggered by pda acquisition.

Radio calls are triggered by progressing through the game, things like crafting sth specific or visiting a specific biome. Focus on getting yourself a seamoth submarine

I have a pet crab squid named Gary from an egg.

I live in the red grass area and so once I lost him and thought I lost him or hit him with my Cyclops. I cried for 1 hour straight. I had connected with Gary. He killed peepers and little red guys for me. I had connected with me. And now hes gone

Until I found him in the kelp forest killing a stalker.

Decided to go looking for the base down there, I brought my cyclops by the entrance of the cave and went down in my seamoth

I do my exploring, then I look out the window, where seamoth fragments are falling

So I have to frantically swim up to my cyclops (200m away) while avoiding crabsquids and warpers

Scariest shit of all time.

Now, you might be saying, why didn't I go in with my cyclops? Well, I wanted to, except idk how large the entrance was, and to exit I'd be maneuvering around with an EMP every 10 seconds

The Cyclops fits in there, lots of hull scratching though.

The Cyclops technically angers Crabsquids and invite creature attacks, but they are incapable of doing enough damage to harm it.. the Cyclops auto repair is faster. I also don't recall them ever successfully EMPing it. They are really not a threat.

The Grand Reef, to me, is the only biome that’s immediately “no.” I want as little to do with it as possible. I *detest* crabsquid like nothing else in the game.

For me it's the claustrophobia too. Like you can barely keep an unupgraded Seamoth there with you near the stalactites. I think their grab animation is amazing but horrific too

They just leave you alone unless you go up to 'em. The place has a ton of good resources, especially early-game.

I always go "Fuck it, maximum depth is just a number." and make my way from Lifepod 17 to the Degasi base by hugging the ceiling with my seamoth.

Is there any point to the Degasi Grand Reef base?

Posted by jerseydevil51 · in r/subnautica · 6 months ago

One of my favorite things about the game is how it leaves things for the player to follow to advance the story. So I got to the Grand Reef Degasi base and the achievement for learning their fate, but there doesn't seem to be anything there.

I didn't find any new modules or blueprints there, just a creature egg and an orange tablet. I'm guessing that's the real prize here, but I don't know what it goes to.

I can't help but feel like I'm missing something here. Is there anything else to follow after this point, or was it just a story based dead end?

  1. Yes, there is a point. You should read the in game lore and PDA things to discover all this stuff.

  2. Going to assume you are a first time player. You should honestly (not being mean at all here) leave this sub. Someone gave me the same advice here and so glad I did. You only get a first time playthrough once, and most of us here have already done so.

Don’t spoil it for yourself. The game is amazing.

Is it nuclear powered?

7 upvotes on reddit
R
r3dn0va · OP · 7 years ago

It’s nuclear. It started out as Bio but after things to eat there isn’t enough organic material in the LR to sustain the reactor as there is in the shallows. Uranite is pretty easy to find.

15 upvotes on reddit
R_Davidson · 7 years ago

I may have been playing wrong, but isn't the best way to power a base is bio reactor? Maybe even more than one, you can grow infinite food right next to it for infinite energy

2 upvotes on reddit
D
DecentChanceOfLousy · 7 years ago

The reactor rods can make the base have energy when you return more consistently (because they need less manual supervision). With the bioreactor, its out of energy half the time when I come back because I left the scanner room on (or something else that drains power). Even installing a nuclear reactor and not powering it helps for me, just for the energy capacity.

protip: open the console and type "item terraformer". Then use the the tool it gives you to utterly destroy the environment around the area where you want to build, once you've moved enough earth eventually it will let you construct that base piece.

Once you're satisfied with the construction, go back to the title menu and load up your save, all the terrain you destroyed will be back as it was before. I do this every time I want to build somewhere but something invisible is blocking me from doing so.

r3dn0va · OP · 7 years ago

Until I built this I had a sprawling base in the shallows of corridors and towers that had grown slowly over time as I discovered blueprints. The location in the LR is pretty specific. It’s easier to design to a location than it is to create something interesting in a big open space. Just look for that special location and build there.

19 upvotes on reddit
R
r3dn0va · OP · 7 years ago

It’s not clear in this image but everything to the right is mostly glass. Everything in the tower on the left is functional stuff (reactor, purifier etc) and a huge amount of reinforcement to counter all the glass on the other side. It’s too good a spot not to use a lot of glass - views from the inside are awesome!

When I actually go into that base I park the seamoth in what I hope is a safe spot a fair distance away and use the seaglide to zip back and forth for air and for a repair if needed. Always, always save before you park in case you get unlucky. I have used the perimeter defense system successfully when passing through crab territory but now I use that ugrade slot for storage and just book it past them to safer waters.
