TL;DR
Leviathan Egg Types and Locations
In Subnautica, there are several types of leviathan eggs mentioned, but most are not interactable or collectible. The Sea Emperor Leviathan eggs are part of the storyline and can be found in a precursor base, but they cannot be moved or hatched by the player [2:1]. Similarly, Sea Dragon Leviathan eggs are visible in the game but remain non-interactive
[2:1].
Reefback Leviathan Eggs
Reefback Leviathan eggs do not naturally spawn in the game world for collection. They exist as a model that was likely intended to be used but were ultimately not included in the gameplay. Players can use console commands to spawn these eggs if desired, although this will disable achievements [1:3],
[5:7]. Some players mistakenly believe they have found them in the wild, but this is not supported by the game's mechanics
[5:10].
Ghost Leviathan Eggs
Ghost Leviathan eggs appear in the Lost River biome, specifically at the Tree Cove, where they are part of the environment but cannot be collected or interacted with [2:2],
[5:5]. These eggs serve more as a visual element rather than a functional item within the game.
Other Leviathans and Misconceptions
Some creatures like the Squidshark and Glow Whale in Subnautica: Below Zero are sometimes mistaken for leviathans due to their size, but they are not classified as such in the original Subnautica game [3:1]. Additionally, there is confusion about the existence of Reaper Leviathan eggs, which do not exist in the game either through normal play or cheats
[4:1].
Overall, while leviathan eggs are an intriguing aspect of Subnautica's lore, their role is largely limited to environmental storytelling rather than interactive gameplay elements.
Well you can see some of a species I can't mention in a no spoilers thread in a biome I can't mention in a no spoilers thread.
You can find the [REDACTED] egg in the [MISSING] biome at the [BLANK]
Yep lmao
There's a reefback egg you can get through commands, but commands disable achievements.
Dev consoles: spawn reefbackegg [quantity ] eg. spawn reefbackegg 1
Crab squid ain’t no leviathan
Technically, yes, but you can't hatch them in your alien containment.
Is it possible to get a leviathan egg in the game?It would be really cool to have a little ghost or reaper leviathan in the alien containment I have read some different opinions and I don't know which is true and which is not
No, only Reefback is possible through commends, Ghost Leviathan Egg is on tree in Minibiome of Lost River
But the Ghost Levithan egg can't be collected, right?
It's larger than Seamoth
I think they added it sometime and then deleted it for some reason
I think they added it

It for some reason

nop. the only leviathan egg you can interact with in-game is >!the sea emperor leviathan eggs!<. then there's the >!sea dragon leviathan!< eggs that you see in one of the >!precursor bases, i think before the primary containment facility,!< but you can't interact with those. (sorry for so many spoilers, at least i covered them up with the spoiler text format)
All good, I've been there. Thank you for the answer :)
ah, it just said no spoilers in the title, so i just made sure to spoiler-free it (i even use the spoiler format in spoiler friendly posts)
So i found a blue egg with tentacles and I didnt know what is was so I decided to put it in my giant aquarium I made for everything i found in my jounrey and as i was making life i get a notification saying squidshark egg discovered and I HAVE 2 OF THEM AND I CANT GET BACK TO THEM BECAUSE IM 900M UNDER THE SEA
Not sure if this works in BZ as I just started playing it but it was true in the first game. You can use hatched leviathans to push wild leviathans to the opposite side of the zone, essentially altering their route.
So let's say you want to build in an area where other leviathans roam but you don't want them near your base you can put alien containment there and a leviathan class creature, in this case a squidshark, and the algorithm registers a leviathan in the area and it will cause the wild leviathans to stay away.
In the first game I built in the LR on the edge of the ghost leviathan path, placed a crabsquid in a containment and I never saw the ghost again. I would run through the LR in my cyclops full noise and never be bothered.
Can anyone confirm this works in BZ? I started to test it yesterday but fell asleep before I could get all the materials needed to build. I should be able to finish it tonight if no one else confirms.
Squidsharks aren´t leviathans.
It says theyre on the smaller end of the leviathan scales but their databank says theyre classified as leviathan class predators
That´s weird. Anyways the only "ownable" leviathan in BZ is glow whale.
Kinda.
Basically if you can grow it in your containment, you can keep it in there as a pet, or release it outside and it'll be non-hostile.
Just be aware that:
Might I recommend glow whales? They're really big, and completely chill, and they make cool sounds. You can even grab onto the big wild ones and ride them for a bit. Eggs are kind of a pain to find (check the tops of some of the floating rocks in the lily pads).
I wish there were eggs for those eye jellies (which I think are the juvenile form of ventgardens? That may just be headcanon--nah, I looked it up. Juvenile ventgardens are similar free-swimming things, not the same as eye jellies).
The eye jellies do have (very abundant) eggs, and they’re a completely different species from the vent gardens. You can actually find juvenile vent gardens by the mercury wreck at the delta island
Eye jellies do have eggs! They’re in the eastern entrance to the underground tunnel from the west arctic to the glacial basin. If you start from the glacial basin dock, head south while hugging the wall and you should see the entrance about where the eye jelly population is most concentrated
i was in that area next to the glacier that had a ton of the eye jellies, and there were dozens of eggs laying around. It was like a spawning event. I grabbed 4... now i just have to find the blueprint for the big aquarium...
All you need to make the large aquarium is to build it in a large room
You didn't realize? Wild. Yeah, it even says so in the PDA entry if you scan them. They park themselves over thermal vents in their sessile adult form and use the vent to supply energy and nutrients.
Also, 2? there are a lot more than 2. There's a whole biome full of them, WSW of the lily pads.
They’re my favorite hatchable creature in BZ! I like breeding quite a few and releasing them in areas with other predators to watch them duke it out!
YES SQUIDSHARKS ARE LEVIATHANS IT SAYS SO IN THEIR PDA ENTRY EVEN THO THEY ARENT DIRECTLY PUT IN THE LEVIATHAN SECTION
They aren’t in the wild that I know of.
No, they do not exist in the wild
There are no reaper leviathan eggs in the game, cheated in or not. The only leviathan eggs in the game are props and not game objects.
except for reefbacks, but those have to be cheated in.
They do not exist
Does anyone have any tip where to find reefback leviathan egg? Or is it even possible?
I really wanna teeny tiny reefie in my AC unit...
Command console. The reefbacks eggs don't spawn in the game.
item reefbackegg 1
Actually they do, my friend is fully survival no cheats and found the egg, they exist just are difficult to find due to their small size
They don't exist without cheats.

Their original model was what is now the Spadefish eggs - you can find a GIANT sized one in the endgame area though, which is likely what they were intended to be (although you cannot interact with it).
Thanks, subnautica.wiki has wrong info then. Maybe I'll spawn it after i take care of Kharaa
Just don't... take it out of the Alien Containment Unit. They grow up so fast.
Edit: Also, what wrong info?
Where can you find this giant egg?
>!In the Primary Containment Facility, there is a chamber full of eggs. One of them is a massive 'spadefish' egg, which was probably meant to be Reefback egg before they changed that.!<
There is one at the tree of life but you can't interact with it
Nah, that's a Ghost leviathan egg, it says in the PDA entry for the tree.
I couldn't give you a tip on where to find one but I know they exist without cheats their just hard to find due to their small size
Oh my god, SHUT-UP! It does not exist in the game normally. You have to use a command and disable console. STOP REPLYING SAYING THEY DO EXIST WITHOUT CHEATS. THEY DO NOT.
They were removed from the game and you cant get them without cheats ;-;
I wanna go through the nice shinny cave in peace so, I ’ll kill the leviathans. But I won’t do it if they respawn cause that’ll be useless. Help 🥺
They don't.
Edit: The Void Chelicerates do respawn.
Thanks, have you tried it?
Yes, with a Chelicerate.
I think they do, unless there is a mod that prevents them from doing so. Just like the normal fish you use to get water or food from.
Pro tip: don't kill them. I did, and that made the endgame so boring
That wasn’t my experience, but I only forced myself to kill one that repeatedly made it a bit of annoying to get down to the lava region.
I only ever killed one, when I built too close to its territory and the constant roaring finally got to me.
I think they do. But not sure.
no. the only ones that respawn are the void chelicerates on the edges of the map. the game spawns new ones the longer you're out there
Do they exist?

So I can have a pet ghostie inna tank :D
They do not.
Or, to be more pedantic, some leviathan eggs can be found in the game, but you can't hatch them in your alien containment unit.
But... but but... I wanna have a baby reaper and ghostie
I have a leviathan egg. Not sure which one. But I can’t Hatch it. Won’t let me drop it in my containment.
EDIT: not sure what it is. It won’t let me hatch it in any containment unit. Someone wants to enlighten me in all ears.
No you dont. They're not in the game. Therefore, you're (most likely) lying.
See the previous comment on this post.
Idk what’s in the egg. But i can’t drop it in my containment unit, and it’s the only egg I can’t do it with.
From bhamv:
“They do not.
Or, to be more pedantic, some leviathan eggs can be found in the game, but you can't hatch them in your alien containment unit.”
Command: [item reefbackegg] It's the only hatchable leviathan egg in the game >!(not counting Sea Emperor Eggs)!< It looks the same as the Spadefish egg, but it's much larger. You can hatch in your "aquarium" and get a mini version of Juvenile Reefback. The egg takes about five in-game days to hatch and juvenile won't grow up even if you let it swim in the ocean.
So it stays a tiny version of a juvenile reefback? Sounds like it would make an adorable pet to keep around the base. Too bad the devs didn't officially allow this.
It was an actual in-game feature. It was removed somewhere along the way. And just to clear any doubts you may have: they don't grow larger than other fish in containment, but if you set it free, it will instantly change its size. They shouldn't despawn, but they shouldn't be able to grow up.
They dont but there is a mod for the levi eggs.
Sadly they do not. It would be cool AF if you could get some
I am knew to Subnautica and I would like to know if I could raise one of these somehow?
Reefback eggs are in the game but you can’t pick them up nor hatch them.
Okay thanks.
Not through normal gameplay.
You can use console commands to spawn them in and yes, they do hatch and work fine without glitches. The command is "item reefbackegg". Just don't release them near your base.
Okay thanks am am not going to do it because it is a just plain survival world but I am curios would they be really small in the tank or would they be huge and would be glitching out of the tank?
They are small and don't cause any issues inside the containment. Here are two images of them:
https://i.redd.it/8sykvsfdviu01.jpg

I'm pretty sure the reason they were removed is because of the potential to have a full grown Reefback stuck in your base after you release it . Release creatures grow to full size after a while.
im pretty sure they are mammals like snow stalkers in below zero
No
You can hatch reefbacks in containment chambers, but the egg is only obtainable through console commands. The command is "item reefbackegg". For some reason the reefback egg was cut from the game, despite the codes clearly being there to do it.
Or at least, so I have heard, and as is supported here: https://subnautica.fandom.com/wiki/Cut_Content_(Subnautica)#Reefback_Leviathan_Egg. Never tried it myself though, so I guess it could be a hoax.
But thei are hatchebale
(Other than the storyline)
You can only hatch 14 eggs in the game. And NONE of them are leviathan.
Reaf backs are levaetans
The Reefback eggs aren't available without cheating.
This. Hope it's not spoilers, but in a word: no. But also be grateful lol!
Cap reefback
you can hatch sea emporer for storyline
I think it would be fun to have at least one leviathan that’s so big you don’t see it for what it is, until there is some big realization. Like maybe there ’s this cool biome that has all these great resources, and then you realize there’s a big eyeball looking at you, and the whole ground moves…
I think there is an island hermit crab thingy in the trailer.
I appreciate all of your responses, sadly this is an unofficial post and can't really do anything to get them added. These are ALL great suggestions and hope at least one of these can get added to subnautica 2. 😁
just a larger variety of them in general would be great
Kraken
A leviathan that is not too big but stealthy and sensitive to light in a very dark biome. A leviathan thats sensitive to sound thats guarding an important resource. Leviathans that can work together to destroy your large vessel or maybe just to hunt and trap you. A very large and very slow leviathan that can finish you in one hit.
Where are leviathan eggs in subnautica
In Subnautica, Leviathan eggs can be found in specific locations throughout the game. Here are the key locations to look for them:
Sea Treader's Path:
Lost River:
Crater Edge:
Ghost Tree:
Key Takeaways:
Recommendation: Use a Seamoth or Prawn Suit for protection and mobility while exploring these areas, as they can be dangerous. Make sure to have adequate oxygen supplies and be prepared for encounters with aggressive fauna.
