TL;DR Reaper Leviathans are primarily located in the Crash Zone, Dunes, and Mountains. They do not respawn once killed.
Crash Zone
The Crash Zone is one of the most populated areas with Reaper Leviathans. There are approximately 8 to 10 reapers around this area, particularly behind and to the south of the Aurora [1:1]
[2:2]. This makes it a high-risk area for players exploring near the shipwreck.
Dunes
The Dunes is another area heavily populated by Reaper Leviathans, with reports suggesting there are up to 11 reapers here [2:5]
[2:6]. The western parts of the map are considered dangerous due to these numerous leviathans
[1:1].
Mountains
The Mountains host about 6 Reaper Leviathans, mainly to the east of the island [1:1]. These leviathans are spread out, making the area risky for exploration.
Other Areas
While the primary locations are the Crash Zone, Dunes, and Mountains, some players have encountered Reaper Leviathans near the Quarantine Enforcement Platform and the Bulb Zone [3:2]
[5:10]. Additionally, the Void contains ghost leviathans rather than reapers
[2:3].
Interactive Maps
For those looking to avoid or find Reaper Leviathans, interactive maps can be helpful tools. Websites like Subnauticamap.io provide detailed locations of leviathan spawns and biomes [5:1].
Respawning
Reaper Leviathans do not respawn once they are killed, according to several user experiences [4:1]. However, game updates or cache resets might affect their presence
[5:2].
I don't wanna get jumpscare
Here you go https://i.redd.it/rrm2cadmjcj01.png
Mind you, this does not come with depth markers.
OP, even with this map you’ll still get jumpscared
I still love BKFL and Huey Dewey and Louie
You will hear them before you see them, just keep an ear out for them and if you hear them, go the opposite way.
Either right under your bed, or immediately behind you right... now!
8 in the crash zone, behind the Aurora mostly, 6 in the mountains (north-east corner of the map), but only to the east of the island and 8 in the dunes (western parts of the map).
You can always look up maps, but that will be pretty spoiler filled.
i want to make a leviathan observatory but i’m not sure what area has the most that are near each other (apart from reefbacks and sea shitters)
The crash zone has 10 reapers. 6 of them are located on the south end of the Aurora.
Probably the dunes for reapers. Or the void.
I thought the Void only has ghost leviathans that try to murder you on sight.
I think a couple reapers also spawn but yes they all try to kill you/make you go back to the map
The outer edge of the dunes would probably be the ideal place.
I'd say the Dunes, iirc there's 11 reapers there, permanent ambiant noises
"Build in the Dunes!" I said, "What could go wrong?" I said.
*rocks back and forth from the constant screaming of the Reaper that is like 50 to 100 meters from my base at the worst of times*
To be fair, I did build my base at the border of the Dunes and Mushroom Forest, but there is a Reaper really close and I can sometimes see it when I look out of my observatory. So, yeah, if you want to build in Reaper territory, you can build in the Dunes.
My next base is probably gonna be in the inactive lava zone to say hi to the Sea Dragon. lol
11 reapers in Dunes? wow that`s a lot, I really should explore Dunes in greater detail
You absolutely should. It is bursting with goodies and resources.
I love the idea of a levitation observatory! Post pics!
Google should have at least 2 different interactive maps that show the leviathan locations
If you want a bunch of one type I’d say dunes or crash zone. Void for ghost. I don’t think there’s really anywhere that has reapers or ghosts close enough to see both from one spot.
I been playing for 19 hours made a base, sea moth and everything i been to the aurora like 4 times also i been inside fixed the stuff inside been almost everywhere in the map. I been in a reaper leviathan area and no reaper leviathans i only seen a reef back, ghost and a sea treder leviathan is something wrong with my game? and im doing survival
Which one of the 24 or so Reapers do you want to meet?
at least 3
Bunch of them around the Aurora
At least one near the >!Quarantine Enforcement Platform!<, but about 3 in that biome.
A lot in the west, in the Dunes.
When you go straight from your base to Aurora it should be there, then you should hear roars and see him guarding, dont get too close to it because when you can hear him he can see you, so its pretty dangerous.
He should be in the area around Aurora. Maybe you just missed him. Try going behind Aurora, thats where I first saw him.
Or in the dunes
Go to the front of the Aurora, if you don’t see any there then your games broken
Wend to the front of the aurora, if 't be true thee don’t see any thither then thy games broken
^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.)
Commands: !ShakespeareInsult
, !fordo
, !optout
You can finish the whole game without seeing 1
If you want to meet reapers then stand on your starting life pod and face the Aurora, now turn 180 degrees to save the opposite direction. Swim forwards until you find a sandy biome called the Dunes.
You can also easily find one by heading to the aurora and circling all the way around it, reaper should spot you before you see/hear it.
Do Reaper Leviathans respawn? I haven't seen Sammy the Reaper in a while.
You bastard...you killed Sammy!
Oh No Dude!
No. No Leviathan with specific locations (anything not in the void) respawn. IIRC, crabsquid don't, either.
I recently killed both of them (or I thought there were only two) about a week ago at about the same time and saved after, so they shouldn't come back that way. Do they eventually respawn? Is there a 3rd one?
I thought it was just a glitch until it attacked my cyclops
Edit: ok so I guess theres more than 2 lol (sorry I'm a relatively new player and was also told there were only 2. I guess the person who told me only came across two)
Edit 2: ok apparently theres 22 of them in the game, damn
Every time the cache is reset (which it will because you will either run out of resources or update the game) they respawn. And there’s lots. Two I belive around the Aurora, some in the mountains, and more in the dunes.
I looked up reaper leviathan les and apparently theres 22 in total
MASSIVE SPOILERS IF YOU'VE NEVER BEATEN THE GAME >!https://subnauticamap.io/!< you can use that site to pin point exactly which one you saw
In what area because in the dunes I’m pretty sure their are 11 reapers there
I was kind of near the bulb zone and saw it in the distance
I have only seen one reaper at the bulb zone from when I was beating the game
That reaper you saw was probably the one in front of the Aurora by the entrance. If kinda hangs underneath of it.
There are a total of 22 reapers I think
I found all my rubies in the sparse reef
The mountain area has a great many. I never explored that area beyond the land mass itself
I got lost there in VR at night. It was very dark. :P
Here's a great interactive map for Subnautica, that shows off all the leviathan spawns, as well as all the biomes, if you're intetested:
so, ik if Reaper Leviathan just appear in: Dunes, Mountain, Crash Zone and "Crash Zone Mesas", but it can move for Mushroom Forest, Kelp Forest or another biome? and they stay spawning front or close of player like happening as before? (if you question: i marked this as spoilers bc i think if say where it spawns are a spoiler).
They have specific spawn points and do not respawn once killed. They can however follow the player into other biomes where they might stay instead of returning to their original spawn point. Hope that clears it up for you.
this helped, but, what about they spawn right front of you or next to you?
They spawn in a specific spot, whether that is in front of you or anywhere else depends on where you are facing. If you need to see a map, check out subnauticamap.io and you can see exactly where they are and how to best approach them.
Yes it can move to other biomes usually by following the player, very rarely does it happen on its own. Also they will stay there until they follow something back.
thx, this helped.
Really? You come in the most reaper-populated area in the game and ask if there are places with no reapers?
Yes.....
Don't even hope. There will be reapers and you will face them like a man, got it?
It’s a very reasonable question, OP, don’t listen to that person.
A guy just made a base there and posted it 7 hrs ago.. should ask them in the post.
I’ve never seen a reaper get close to the meteor crater. Here’s a leviathan map:
https://www.reddit.com/r/subnautica/comments/81dyuf/names_for_all_the_leviathans/
Is the crater the same as the sinkhole?
No, the meteor crater is on the north side of the dunes. There's a very obvious, spherical meteor in the middle of it. Explore it thoroughly. There's >!an alien sanctuary cache in there.!<
don't care for that area. safe shallows for me thanks!
Yes, the very northern part.
New player, absolutely terrified of running into the reaper... where does it not spawn?
I’m taking all precautions I can because I honestly crumble under pressure and will undoubtedly freeze up when it first spawns near me. I’ve seen it spawn near the Aurora in peoples’ let’s plays and I’ve been around 500-700m away from the lifeboat in every direction and have only ran into Stalkers that are aggressive so far.
Also please try and describe any biomes it spawns in since I don’t actually know any biome names besides Safe Shallows.
I too once used to be terrified just like you, I infact have thalassophobia. So this game used to terrorize me. All you gotta do is just take a deep breath and try to face em. Once u actually encounter them, you could find a way to avoid them.
If you wanna avoid reapers, try not to stray around the front and back end of the aurora crash site. If u follow a specific path, you could enter the spaceship without encountering a reaper.
As for the dunes, your PDA will warn you about multiple leviathan class creatures, so your best bet then would be to back off. Dunes is basically a biome which is dark and of low visibility.
At one point (spoiler alert), you will come across a landing site, try not to stray far from that island into the open space, there's reaper out somewhere there.
If you get a defense perimeter upgrade for your seamoth, you can easily deal with reapers.
Cheers.
Just for confirmation, I can bump into them at any point in the story so long as I’m in a biome which they spawn at? Even if I haven’t got very far into the story they still spawn?
The Reapers are everywhere except your life pod and your direct path to Aurora.
But take comfort you can always hear them a mile away.
Also only the Kelp forest near the western floating underwater islands area is the Reaper close to shallows. Just avoid that "promontory" if you want to avoid Reaper while near shallows.
I love sneaking past Reapers with silent running
They exist always. So even if u just started a new world, if you go to the biomes they live, you will find them.
I can post a map if you like, otherwise if the water gets dark, it's because the void hides terror.
I messed around a little in creative and found a few Ghost Leviathans and didn’t run into a single Reaper which for some reason makes me more afraid of them. Now I’m in a survival and still haven’t even seen a faint silhouette of one in the distance, I always feel like it’s behind me.
They blend in well into the ocean. You best see them from below.
You are safest on the bottom at all times. Just make little noise
Dunes. Your PDA will warn you.
Aurora.
Mountains, which is connected to the Dunes and near a story critical location.
The mountains aren't connected to the dunes. It's the complete opposite corner of the map.
You know what they say!
“If the water is brown, then get out of town.”
“If the water is dark, it’s no walk in the park.”
“If you’re in the sand dunes, you should hide in a groove (or just leave).”
“The mountains suck.”
On a serious note, do these sayings have any sort of real meaning? Lmao. If the water is brown/dark then I have a higher chance of running into something nasty?
They are in the Aurora crash site and the sand dunes between the safe shallows and the kelp forest
I always asked where did the reaper lelviathans come from, sure, they spawn in the crash site, but, that wasnt their natural habitat,it got destroyed,WICH means, there was anhabitat that was ideal for them?,if so,reaapers are able to resist radiation? very strong radiations because theyre right next to the thrusters of the Aurora.
Sure, reapers spawn in the mountains too but that biome is nothing like the crash site, but, both of them are near the void, wich if filled with ghost leviathans, and that doesnt make sense to me,can the reaper live in all places? Did they migrate like sea traders? what biome really is the crash zone?
plus, almost every creature has a relative one, like how the ghost raay is related to the ghost leviathan, the bladderfish with the hoverfish, sea dragon and sea emperor, artic peepers and peepers, but no one relates to reapers, theyre alone.
Reapers, while being extremely iconic to Subnautica, always seemed out of place to me. Both the Dunes and the Crash site are desert biomes, but I can't associate reapers with sand
Then I saw a particular creature in Below Zero that didn't really belong to an ice biome, but would fit perfectly in a desert landscape, while the reaper would fit well with the frozen scenery
It's a hunting strategy, reapers use echolocation and have an advantage over prey that only uses sight but only in areas with less visibility.
I don't see how echolocation fits into any of what I said, are you just copying other people's thoughts? Because I was talking about their appearance. Most creatures who live in sand have scales or hard shell for a reason (even the sand shark from the game itself). Silky smooth blue Reapers fit colder environment better in my personal opinion
Sand makes sense with their lore, darker water areas would be better for hunting
I think it’s the colors. They’re mostly a pale white which just feels cold, maybe if their stripes were more pronounced it would fit better
Reapers live in zones with low visibility so they take advantage of echolocation. The dunes are dark and sandy, so is the crash zone and the mountains are open enough to allow manouvering and also closed emough that they can hunt.
Other zones are too shallow, too open, too shallow, visibility is too high or too canyon like.
Plus the reapers are some of the only creatures in the game without bioluminescence. Most creatures in the game literally glow in the dark, while reapers don't and can ambush their prey
I think reapers originated in the mountains. They pass the vibe check there. And, consider, they hunt based on ecolocation. There isn't anything loud in the mountains for them to centre themselves on, therefore they had to have originated there.
They travelled to the dunes as a result of the impact event there long before even the precursors were present on the planet. Their devastation of the local ecosystem is probably partially responsible for the creation of those dunes. Hell, you can even see half-buried tree mushrooms that imply that the dunes weren't always around.
As for the Aurora, the crash was doubtlessly even louder than the meteorite impact earlier. Hence, all of the reapers present in that area. And we see the same duneification events as in the earlier dunes. It isn't quite as far along, but it's clearly still happening.
>Where do reaper leviathans really come from?
When reaper mommy and reaper daddy really love each other...
Wait don't they reproduce asexually?
"When the Grim Reaper Loves Himself Too Much"
They seem to live anywhere deep enough to comfortably fit them, and where there are no other big leviathans nearby.
