Popular Venues for Live Music
London is home to a variety of iconic music venues that cater to different tastes. Some recommended spots include The George Tavern, Shackwell Arms, Windmill in Brixton, and The Lexington. These venues are known for hosting live music events and often have club nights following the gigs [2:1]. For those interested in jazz, the Palm Tree near Mile End offers a unique experience with live jazz bands
[2:2].
Finding Live Music Events
For discovering live music events, there are several strategies you can employ. Following local venues on social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram can keep you updated on upcoming shows [3:4]. Websites such as DIY Listings LDN are also useful for tracking gigs around London
[5:1]. Additionally, apps like Songkick can help, though they tend to focus on larger artists
[3:5].
Exploring Different Areas
Different neighborhoods in London offer distinct live music experiences. Dalston and Peckham are popular among younger crowds and feature trendy bars and live music venues [2:5]. Bethnal Green and London Fields are other areas worth exploring, with venues like Ridley Road Market Bar offering vibrant atmospheres
[2:3].
Genres and Specific Shows
If you have specific genre preferences, such as screamo or post-hardcore, checking out listings on platforms like http://Dice.fm can be beneficial [5:3]. For rock, jazz, blues, and metal, it's helpful to explore diverse neighborhoods like Psiri and Exarchia, which host a range of live music bars
[4:2].
By exploring these venues and utilizing online resources, you can fully immerse yourself in London's vibrant live music scene.
Sounds great! You should definitely post it, you sing beautifully! Only feedback is how you’re recording your vocals - it’s echoey, maybe a touch tinny, making vocals hard to hear, I’m struggling to hear the words you’re singing. So just improve how you’re recording your vocals but don’t let that stop you from posting - it’s lovely
It doesnt sound bad, but maybe a little strained. Do you do any breathwork practice? That would help a lot
I just did vocal excercises for high notes like lip trills? Idk

I’m 20 and I’m moving to London, and was wondering if you guys could give me quite a few suggestions and recommendations for what I can do to make the most of my time living in this city.
I’m looking for places to visit, restaurants and areas to eat at, cool bars and clubs to go to, activities to do by myself and with friends, and most importantly where I can see some good live music.
Last time I was here I’d been to the Dalston and Peckham areas and thought both of them were pretty cool, but I’m open to visiting everywhere in London.
Really excited and I’m sure it’s gonna be great
I guess if was a 20 year old moving to Bethnal Green:
The main spot in that area now is London Fields more so than Dalston. Still some good spots in dalston though like Ridley road market bar (very busy, younger crowd, dancey fun vibes). Army and Navy is a great old school boozer if that’s your thing
The fields themselves are great for drinking/chilling during the day in summer, broadway market is great on the weekend although during market hours it is rammed. Cat and Mutton or the Dove for pubs on the market or pub on the park in LF. Netil360 Rooftop and mare st market next door are always busy too
Close-by is Night Tales in hackney central, mainly ticketed but fun events there
The Camel is a great little pub in bethnal green itself/globetown. Satans whiskers in bethnal green/Cambridge heath is great for cocktails
Plenty of other recs for that area but unsure how much info you need! You’ll have a great time wherever you end up hanging out
Victoria Park is the best for hanging and running/cycling if you're into that. There's Pavilion cafe by the lake but a new small coffee shop called Blas opened and is great. Good restuarants and cafes in the nearby village too.
If you like a weird divey bar, there's the Palm Tree off the canal towards Mile End which is cash only and has a live jazz band with a bunch of old guys, it rules.
Imma be real with you bro this not the answer you want but if you're gonna live in London you just gotta go find stuff and not go through a curated checklist of "hot spots". Dalston and Peckham are just gentrified areas that have the same trendy natural wine bars and coffee shops you'll find in the same area in any other major city.
If you’re gonna suggest some Vittles-pilled Zone 6 recommendations ………… this guy is 20……. chill out bro…….
100% this. If you’re 20 definitely go to Peckham and Dalston and yknow spend some time with people likely similar to you. No one needs to go to Penge.
What's vittles ? All I'm saying is to go where their interests and curiosity takes them .
Loooool not vittles catching a stray
Hard agree tho
what music are you into?
Which area have you moved to?
For live music, there’s still a lot of iconic, smaller music venues in London. Would head down to The George Tavern, Shackwell Arms, Windmill in Brixton and The Lexington. Most of these places are also open late and have decent club nights on after gigs.
More generally, just try and visit new areas, there’s great spots littered around so don’t get sucked into one neighbourhood.
How can I find live music near me playing right now?
Every time I leave the pub I want to listen to some live music but it’s almost impossible to find where small gigs are playing unless you know the venues around your town?
Any websites or apps?
LemonRock or following local venues on Facebook
For local unsigned bands you really need to do some research, to get familiar with all the places that they might play, then find out if they have their own listings. If you're on Facebook you can usually follow those venues and get notifications in your feed. But sometimes it might just be a blackboard outside the place, relying on you spotting it and remembering. Although bars like to attract extra customers, sometimes they'll get full without any advertising needed.
Follow your local venues on Facebook/Instagram/wherever.
Guessing you live in a small town?
No not even, but I when I use apps like songkick they only show bigger artists. There’s many occasions where I’ve just wanted to see lots of small artists and genres nearby but there’s no way of doing this?
I mean if you’re in a city then usually the pubs/venues advertise with posters on the window or on a sign outside, that’s the easiest way. Especially if it’s a student city because all those bands don’t advertise themselves outside instagram.
You might just have to take a chance on one of those pubs that says “live music every Thursday” and just see who shows up.
Really appreciate the recommendations guys!
Hello, I am visiting Athens from July 29th to August 10th, and was wondering if there is any live music taking place outside?
If not, which bars/clubs with live music would you recommend?
Totally depends on what kind of music. There are jazz clubs, blues bars, Greek folk music, techno, classical, opera.
If you just want to play it by ear, there are lots of bars with live music in Psiri and Exarchia neighborhoods.
If you want to actually plan something and buy tickets, check out the site more.com, that's the main ticket hub for more organized/professional events.
Thank you
Theres always live music in Athens, a lot of ut outside in summer. Depends on what type of music you're looking for.
Rock, jazz, blues, metal mainly. But open to all genres of course, as long as it is live.
I love to watch people enjoy on stage while playing.
visiting london uk soon and I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations for venues that have shows… Or any other recommendations for getting in the know about live music events (screamo, post-hardcore, etc.)
Knumears 13th July New Cross in My Theatre Friend 3rd July windmill Jawharp are playing a few shows in July Imsorryemil 27th July Sebrightarms (free show)
look out for mitsubishi suicide that’s all i’ll say
https://diylistingsldn.neocities.org/ this is my favourite site to keep track of London gigs
I’m a student at Exeter uni and I’ve just come back for the summer. I’ve enjoyed the music community in Exeter, in particular the jam nights and student bands, was wondering if there were any places in Brighton that did regular live music around that sort of level?
Welcome
Multiple gigs most nights here.
Look at the websites for Concorde2, Prince Albert, Chalk, Dust, Hope & ruin, Green Door Store etc etc
Use the Dice App and input those venues for listings too.
edit saw you were after more jam night stuff, but thought I’d leave up anyway
Plus other obvious small venues pipeline, folklore, Rossi, man street arts club, electric, etc., etc.
Thanks for the recommendations, will give them a look
The Bees Mouth has a jazz night and an open mic night which are both pretty great, might be the kind of speed you're after (there are tons of open mic nights in the city, but I think Bees Mouth is one of the few you can sign up for on the day, lots are pre-booked from weeks in advance which is an odd approach but apparently normal!)
Thanks, I’ll give that a look
Sorry if this isn’t for this subreddit.
Hey all! I’d love to go to a concert. I never managed to when I was younger. I’m now 19 and not really in the whole partying and going to concerts scene, same with my friends and would love to go to some concerts. Other than searching up band tour dates, how do people find concerts and even small gigs and performances in pubs and stuff? I live in London UK and it seems like I miss every concert from artists I like (it’s always American artists that mostly tour the different states 🥀) so I was wondering if there is an app or website that shows nearby upcoming shows in a clean and easy to understand format so that I’m always informed as to what is happening near me. Preferably it would show both big events and also smaller more local ones. But whatever you suggest I will try! Thank you!
Songkick and bandsintown are a couple apps I use.
Plus, subscribing to the various venues.
Check out the website of whatever radio station(s) plays the type of music you enjoy.
Even with all that, I miss them sometimes as well. Sometimes you do need to go to the artists page and see if they are touring.
You can subscribe to some artists as well.
Also not sure if Spotify does this in your area, but my husband gets gig notifications on Spotify if he has listened to an artists' music. We have found out about a bunch of gigs this way.
All of this and also follow your favorite bands and venues on Instagram. They'll often post stuff before the apps do.
These two apps work well for me too.
Figure out venues near you and check their websites. Also ticket vendors can filter by location too.
Some of the smaller venues will let you sign up to get email announcements of shows too.
Oh yeah! I used to get texts from a venue in Colorado when I lived there
Look up the venues near you. Often, they will have a listing of artists that will be performing there as well as a link to the ticketing service.
Follow your local concert venues in instagram. Even the small dive bar type or basement venues. They usually post the bands playing for the week or month. There’s also an app called Bandsintown but idk if it works in your area but it tells me the bands coming to town. And if you’re on the mailing list for StubHub, Ticketmaster, livenation, they will send emails about which bands are playing throughout the month.
I have Spotify, so I go to Search > Live Events. It highlights artists I've listened to and then shows everyone in my area. If I'm about to travel, I'll set the location and date to my destination to see what's playing there.
Hi, we will be in central London for one night (Friday May 30th) and were looking for a nice Pub with live music (folk-rock, indie or so) or generally a cozy but also fun place to spend the evening. Does anyone have any recommendations?
u/Alarming_Elk7853, there weren't enough votes to determine the quality of your post...
Spiritual Bar in Camden has a gig tonight, check out their Instagram @spiritualrecords
Looking for chill small live music bars nights of June 11 and/or 12th in London. What’s the best site to look this kinda place up? Jazz/blues/rock in a chill place would be great. Somewhere we can grab drinks and also enjoy some music. Any advice appreciated! Thanks!
Check Time Out London
Thank you! Very helpful
You could check what's on at Crazy Coqs.
Ronnie Scott’s on Frith St in Soho. Buy tix in advance, get there early to line up on the pavement for best seating. Absolutely incredible live music, extremely intimate. Factoid: Jimi Hendrix played his final public show at Ronnie Scott’s along with Eric Burdon, the day before Jimi died.
Will do! Thanks!
Hi folks. I know how difficult it can be to find an open mic night in London these days so I decided to host my own.
Tuesday 10th June 2025, 7pm @ the Victoria pub, 177 Grove Street, Deptford. SE8 3QQ
I am not a professional musician (or host) but I wanted to create a relaxed, inviting environment where people feel confident to get up and share their talents, make new friends and enjoy an evening of music without pressure or pretence. So whether you're a seasoned performer or stepping up to the mic for the first time, this is a judgment-free zone.
The venue will have two acoustic guitars, two mics, probably a ukelele. Other instruments/backing tracks also welcome but obviously you’ll have to bring them.
I hope this post is allowed here. This is in no way a money making scheme. I am not being paid for hosting, there are no entry fees, just an opportunity for those who love music to meet some like minded people, play some songs and hear some new music. (Or old music)
You can either DM me on here or email the venue any questions.

Awesome news!
Is this a music-only open mic or are you expecting it to broaden out to other performance arts too? (He asks a magician.)
It’s intended for music really because sometimes The tone can get a bit odd if you mix mediums and the audience isn’t always receptive, but it largely depends how many people turn up: If someone wanted to do a poem or spoken world or something I would probably try to accommodate them (unless there are also 15 musicians vying to get on)
