Where to Buy Rare Marvel Comics

Online Marketplaces

One of the most popular places to buy rare Marvel comics is eBay. It offers a wide range of comics, including rare and valuable issues. However, prices can vary significantly depending on the seller, so it's important to check completed listings to gauge reasonable pricing [5:1][5:4][5:5]. Other online marketplaces such as Hipcomic and MyComicShop are also recommended for their variety and reliability [4:1][5:3].

Auction Sites

Auction sites like Heritage Auctions and ComicLink are excellent for finding rare comics. These platforms often feature high-value items and provide a secure environment for transactions [4:2]. Goldin Auctions and PWCC are newer options that have started auctioning comics and may offer favorable terms [4:2].

Specialized Comic Websites

For those looking for specialized comic websites, Comicspriceguide.com is a platform where people sell comics, including rare ones [1:1]. Comicconnect is another site that runs long auctions, which can yield good deals if you set up alerts [4:1].

Physical Stores and Local Options

While online options are plentiful, visiting local comic shops can be beneficial. They might have connections to auction houses or know collectors interested in selling rare comics [1:4]. Additionally, platforms like Facebook Marketplace and Mercari can sometimes have listings from local sellers [4].

Recommendations Beyond Discussions

When purchasing rare comics, consider getting them graded to ensure authenticity and condition [1:2][1:7]. This can protect both the buyer and seller by providing a standardized assessment of the comic's quality.

Best way to sell valuable marvel comics?

ORIGINAL POST

I’m talking issues that have sold on ebay for 5k-8k USD. Not sure if ebay is the best route, or if there’s a specialized comic website that people use like there’s bricklink for lego. Any tips appreciated.

Thanks!

Definitely get them graded. I inherited a really nice collection of such books when I was a kid and held on to them until around 2005, when I started piecing out all but a few of them. By 2012, I had sold off the remaining ones, which were early key issues of Marvel's main titles.

I made some good money, but definitely left a nice chunk of change on the table by not having those key issues graded.

Are the comics 'graded' as that has a big impact on the price it will make, also remember that not every price you see on ebay is genuine, prices are often artificially inflated by unscrupulous sellers. I would take them to a known dealer to get their take and they may even know of potential buyers.

No grade. Definitely get them graded?

-second part of reply unrelated to grading-

The prices are generally the same, I’ve seen comics of this rarity go for around the 5-8k even higher mark even in the past not just ebay.

Pm me what you have I might be interested. And I'll show you how I ship them.

If they go for that much they need to be graded. This is for your protection as well as the eventual buyer.

Do you really want someone sending you a message asking for thousands back because its in worse condition than the photos show?

Would you be happy buying something for 8k only to discover it is really worth 4k because of a minor bend?

Definitely get them graded. For like 20 bucks (maybe less?) you can have them professionally graded and they mount them in a clear plastic case. That way no buyer can realistically claim they didn't get what they ordered. Ebay is a decent place for comics, but for the really valuable ones I would start with a local comic shop - they may know of auctions houses or other groups with interested buyers.

Where can I buy cheap reprints of old marvel comics.

Posted by [deleted] · in r/Marvel · 3 years ago

I've recently gotten into Marvel Comics but the ones I really want to read (eg, Daredevil #4) are crazy expensive, because they are vintage. I'm not looking to buy them for the collect or to resell, I just want to read them. Is there anywhere I can buy modern, invaluable reprints of them?

Digital versions tend to be cheaper. Not sure if marvel unlimited will have the ones you are looking for, but you can try that for free.

man, just use the app and read everything and then go hun special issues if you want a physical copy

the app is like less than $20 a month

Yeah, unless your situation makes an app impractical, I strongly recommend just subscribing to Marvel Unlimited. It's inexpensive, they have most back issues (and are filling in the back catalog more every month), and it's great to not have to try tracking down physical comics each time you want to read a story.

Marvel and DC both make graphic novel type collections of storylines. That’s a great way to find the stories you’re looking to read at a reasonable price.

Your local comic book shop probably carries them, and you should also be able to find them on Amazon or at traditional book stores (although I would recommend starting with your local comic shop).

Finding Marvel Epic Collection

Posted by demi-narudu · in r/graphicnovels · 1 month ago

Do you guys have any recommendations as to where I can buy Marvel’s Epic Collection volumes online? I’m not looking for a specific title. I am just searching for a site with a good variety of titles within the collection. I’m not looking as much for the Modern Era Epic Collection. Would love any feedback… thank you!!!

https://bookoutlet.com/books/category/comics-and-graphic-novels?sort_by=price_usd&sort_order=descending

they have some around $20-$23 be warned they have remainder marks (a sharpie mark (a dot) across the pages on the bottom usually) and they have horrible shipping. But, they can be cheap.

If you have an Ollie's near you, you can troll them, very hit or miss, but great prices when they have them.

What are good websites for checking for rare comics and comic accessories? Preferably including not just floppies but also non-book collectibles (including original art / comic pages)?

Posted by CuteKittyCat2 · in r/comicbookcollecting · 2 years ago

My current list (actively rearranged in order of usefulness) is:

  • Ebay

  • ComicArtTracker [aggregates a shit ton of original art websites]

  • Heritage Auctions

  • ComicLink

  • MyComicShop

  • r/comicswap

  • Comic-Hub

  • Facebook Marketplace

  • Mercari

I.e. what websites do you check regularly / have alerts on for your grails?

Goldin Auctions is nice if you are looking for grails.

Hipcomic can be decent as it is a marketplace so lots of the sellers you already know from ebay (milehigh, infinity, quality, etc) and lots of variety. They also have a free giveaway that you can enter if you like freebies (who doesn't!)

I LOVE comiclink that you have on your list, they always have great stuff

And PWCC is now auctioning comics last couple of months and they have really nice terms so could grow into something bigger.

And ebay just bought TCGPlayer so they are starting into comics but I haven't checked them out personally, just seen the 14000 emails they have sent to make sure I know about it - lol

Hope that helps :)

Comicconnect: Their auctions run for a long time but if you’re willing to set up a few timers/alerts, I’ve gotten a few crazy good deals on there.

Hipcomic: It’s a huge marketplace and auction site. I find their prices usually run pretty high for buy it now items but have used their concierge service to negotiate a lower price with the seller FOR me. I’m not sure if they chipped in or not but they got me a pretty large discount once (40%)

Honestly, eBay is probably your best bet.

2 upvotes on reddit
RealisticTax2871 · OP · 2 years ago

Yeah I'd agree but it's hard to tell what a reasonable price is on there. I see the first issue of Spawn going for $100 AUS but preowned, saw another where the issue was $500 and in mint condition so it's hard to chalk up the value.

When I recommend doing is looking up the comic you want, with the completed listings tab flipped. That will show you how much the comic actually sold for, rather than what people are asking for.

I just ordered some back issues from https://www.mycomicshop.com. There UI is a little tricky, but all the information you need is there, else try eBay.

Ebay would be best place to start. And rare comics usually arent cheap since the price were determined by seller. Unless u got lucky buying it from desperate seller or non-comic collector

Midtown is good and often has decent deals. For trade paperbacks instocktrades is the way to go. If they have the trade you’re looking for it will be the best price you’re gonna find it at.

Go to a store that doesn’t pull such shenanigans, my preferred shops put all the covers out (super-limited ratio ones aside that some sell at a mark-up) and if you show up early enough or think to call and inquire about a cover, it is yours. I’ve stopped visiting stores that pull B.S.

where to buy rare Marvel comics

Key Considerations for Buying Rare Marvel Comics:

  1. Online Marketplaces:

    • eBay: A popular platform for buying and selling rare comics. Look for sellers with high ratings and read reviews.
    • Heritage Auctions: Specializes in rare collectibles, including comics. They hold auctions that can feature high-value items.
    • Comic Book Resources (CBR) Marketplace: A dedicated space for comic enthusiasts to buy and sell.
  2. Specialty Comic Shops:

    • Local Comic Shops: Visit or call local comic book stores. They often have rare issues or can help you find what you’re looking for.
    • Comic Conventions: Attend conventions where vendors sell rare comics. This is also a great way to network with other collectors.
  3. Online Retailers:

    • TFAW (Things From Another World): Offers a wide selection of comics, including rare finds.
    • Midtown Comics: Known for a vast inventory, including back issues and rare comics.
  4. Collector Forums and Groups:

    • Join online forums or social media groups dedicated to comic book collecting. Members often sell or trade rare comics.
  5. Condition and Grading:

    • Pay attention to the condition of the comic (graded by CGC or similar services). Higher grades (9.0 and above) are generally more valuable.

Recommendation: Start with eBay and local comic shops for a mix of availability and price. If you're looking for something specific, consider joining collector forums to connect with other enthusiasts who may have leads on rare issues. Always verify the authenticity and condition before making a purchase.
