TL;DR Reaper Leviathans are commonly found around the Aurora, in the Dunes, and near the Mountain Island. They are not present near Lifepod 19 or in the Sparse Reef.
Aurora Crash Site
The Aurora crash site is one of the most reliable locations to encounter Reaper Leviathans. Players have reported seeing them around the front and back ends of the wreck [1:6],
[4:5]. The area surrounding the Aurora is heavily populated with Reapers, and they often spot players before players see them
[1:2],
[3:3].
Dunes
The Dunes are another location where Reaper Leviathans are prevalent. This biome is known for having multiple leviathan-class creatures, including Reapers [1:1],
[2:7],
[5:2]. While there might be areas within the Dunes that are less frequented by Reapers, such as the meteor crater on the north side
[5:1], it is generally considered a high-risk zone.
Mountain Island and Surrounding Areas
Reaper Leviathans can also be found near the Mountain Island, particularly on the northwest side between the island and the Floating Islands [4:1]. This area is close to other dangerous biomes, so caution is advised.
Sparse Reef and Lifepod 19
Contrary to some fears, the Sparse Reef and the area around Lifepod 19 do not contain Reaper Leviathans [2:2],
[2:5]. These areas are relatively safe from leviathan threats, making them suitable for exploration without the risk of encountering Reapers.
General Tips
Players can use auditory cues to detect Reaper Leviathans, as their roars can be heard from a distance [2:8],
[3:1]. Additionally, staying close to the ocean floor and minimizing noise can help avoid unwanted encounters
[3:7]. For those looking to avoid Reapers entirely, it's best to steer clear of the aforementioned high-risk zones.
I been playing for 19 hours made a base, sea moth and everything i been to the aurora like 4 times also i been inside fixed the stuff inside been almost everywhere in the map. I been in a reaper leviathan area and no reaper leviathans i only seen a reef back, ghost and a sea treder leviathan is something wrong with my game? and im doing survival
Which one of the 24 or so Reapers do you want to meet?
at least 3
Bunch of them around the Aurora
At least one near the >!Quarantine Enforcement Platform!<, but about 3 in that biome.
A lot in the west, in the Dunes.
When you go straight from your base to Aurora it should be there, then you should hear roars and see him guarding, dont get too close to it because when you can hear him he can see you, so its pretty dangerous.
He should be in the area around Aurora. Maybe you just missed him. Try going behind Aurora, thats where I first saw him.
Or in the dunes
Go to the front of the Aurora, if you don’t see any there then your games broken
Wend to the front of the aurora, if 't be true thee don’t see any thither then thy games broken
^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.)
Commands: !ShakespeareInsult
, !fordo
, !optout
You can finish the whole game without seeing 1
If you want to meet reapers then stand on your starting life pod and face the Aurora, now turn 180 degrees to save the opposite direction. Swim forwards until you find a sandy biome called the Dunes.
You can also easily find one by heading to the aurora and circling all the way around it, reaper should spot you before you see/hear it.
I finally got the seamoth and once i saw the place where there were supposed to be lifepold 19, i turned back because it looks like an ideal place for a reaper levitahan spawn, is there one or is it just a feeling?
No, there is no reaper leviathan in that arena.
Thanks alot
Thanks a lot,
https://subnauticamap.io/i/Sparse_Reef
Use this map to help guide you. Keep in mind that Sea Treader's Path and Grand Reef are in between Lifepod 19. While there aren't any leviathans in those areas, there are Ghost Leviathans in The Grand Reef, so don't tread to far out.
Thanks a lot, i fortunately just took the things i needed and then went back to my base, damn i feel lucky, i don't want my seamoth to explode beacuse of a damn big fishy boi
We've all been there, bud lol. I make sure to carry enough on me and get what I need when I'm exploring. Make sure you don't go into the Crater's Edge lol
But lifepod 4 there might be a reaper nearby
It’s fine there because the sparse reef has no fish
But the dunes are close if a deeper were to see them they can leave
As a general rule you can just use your ears, you will hear them screeching long before they are anywhere near you.
New player, absolutely terrified of running into the reaper... where does it not spawn?
I’m taking all precautions I can because I honestly crumble under pressure and will undoubtedly freeze up when it first spawns near me. I’ve seen it spawn near the Aurora in peoples’ let’s plays and I’ve been around 500-700m away from the lifeboat in every direction and have only ran into Stalkers that are aggressive so far.
Also please try and describe any biomes it spawns in since I don’t actually know any biome names besides Safe Shallows.
They are in the Aurora crash site and the sand dunes between the safe shallows and the kelp forest
I too once used to be terrified just like you, I infact have thalassophobia. So this game used to terrorize me. All you gotta do is just take a deep breath and try to face em. Once u actually encounter them, you could find a way to avoid them.
If you wanna avoid reapers, try not to stray around the front and back end of the aurora crash site. If u follow a specific path, you could enter the spaceship without encountering a reaper.
As for the dunes, your PDA will warn you about multiple leviathan class creatures, so your best bet then would be to back off. Dunes is basically a biome which is dark and of low visibility.
At one point (spoiler alert), you will come across a landing site, try not to stray far from that island into the open space, there's reaper out somewhere there.
If you get a defense perimeter upgrade for your seamoth, you can easily deal with reapers.
Cheers.
Just for confirmation, I can bump into them at any point in the story so long as I’m in a biome which they spawn at? Even if I haven’t got very far into the story they still spawn?
They exist always. So even if u just started a new world, if you go to the biomes they live, you will find them.
The Reapers are everywhere except your life pod and your direct path to Aurora.
But take comfort you can always hear them a mile away.
Also only the Kelp forest near the western floating underwater islands area is the Reaper close to shallows. Just avoid that "promontory" if you want to avoid Reaper while near shallows.
I love sneaking past Reapers with silent running
I can post a map if you like, otherwise if the water gets dark, it's because the void hides terror.
I messed around a little in creative and found a few Ghost Leviathans and didn’t run into a single Reaper which for some reason makes me more afraid of them. Now I’m in a survival and still haven’t even seen a faint silhouette of one in the distance, I always feel like it’s behind me.
They blend in well into the ocean. You best see them from below.
You are safest on the bottom at all times. Just make little noise
Dunes. Your PDA will warn you.
Aurora.
Mountains, which is connected to the Dunes and near a story critical location.
The mountains aren't connected to the dunes. It's the complete opposite corner of the map.
You know what they say!
“If the water is brown, then get out of town.”
“If the water is dark, it’s no walk in the park.”
“If you’re in the sand dunes, you should hide in a groove (or just leave).”
“The mountains suck.”
On a serious note, do these sayings have any sort of real meaning? Lmao. If the water is brown/dark then I have a higher chance of running into something nasty?
Not to kill but to die from it
The one on the back of the aurora is quite easy to find
Though usually it finds you
You were right I saw a water bottle that I needed because I didn’t have any water and it came up right behind me and then it disappeared and I thought it would come back from the same side but it came from the side
Near to the aurora crash, usually close to the nose of the wreck
Far side of the aurora is practically guaranteed
Aurora
There's also generally one on the northwest side of Mountain Island, in between the island and the Floating Islands. Go further northwest to the northernmost part of the Blood Kelp and there's at least one Ghost Leviathan who lives there, but that isn't quite a Reaper.
And AFAIK there are two back on the far side of the Aurora. One hangs out around the nose; one is on the far right side (starboard).
Really? You come in the most reaper-populated area in the game and ask if there are places with no reapers?
Yes.....
Don't even hope. There will be reapers and you will face them like a man, got it?
It’s a very reasonable question, OP, don’t listen to that person.
I’ve never seen a reaper get close to the meteor crater. Here’s a leviathan map:
https://www.reddit.com/r/subnautica/comments/81dyuf/names_for_all_the_leviathans/
Is the crater the same as the sinkhole?
No, the meteor crater is on the north side of the dunes. There's a very obvious, spherical meteor in the middle of it. Explore it thoroughly. There's >!an alien sanctuary cache in there.!<
A guy just made a base there and posted it 7 hrs ago.. should ask them in the post.
don't care for that area. safe shallows for me thanks!
Yes, the very northern part.
If I was to swim >!out of the quarantine enforcement platform's docking area!< and take a quick left to the island, would I see a reaper or will I be fine?
Generally if you stay on the north side of the island, you'll only run into bonesharks until you get to the beach by the platform. I usually see the reaper on the south side of the island, by the base of the mountain. I just build a scanning room on the island and set it to track reapers. With range upgrades, you can see the location of at least two of them and they are easily avoided.
TLDR: the reaper can also spawn inside the caves, so be careful
I thought i'd be a really smart cookie by using the repulsion cannon to move the seamoth into the cave pool to explore the thing unbothered.
Barely 60 meters deep and coming back to the moth after checking the cave walls for any ore formations i just see a sinuous red and white thing swimming by me.
That mfker spawned INSIDE THE CAVE just to disimbue me of the notion that i was some sort of system breaking genius
Next time he sees me i'll be full of medpacks and a thermal knife
Mostly the reapers will stay a bit away from the island so if you hug the wall you’ll probably be fine but that’s still reaper territory so you’ll want to keep moving in case one gets to close. Anything that is in the mountains biome proper is risky as there are a lot of reapers hanging out there.
What is "a lot?" I'm just getting to the point in my first playthrough where I'm gonna have to push out into their turf; are they comparatively rate or do you start seeing them in groups like reefbacks once you get into those biomes?
There’s not much past the island anyways but I think there are like 3-4 ish
they roam around quite a lot so no way to tell really
Well shoot.
The end of the game has you nearby when you take the >!teleporter to/from the Primary Containment Facility - the one inside the large Alien Containment with the Sea Emperor!< - and I don't recall any reapers. I took my cyclops and seamoth there a lot of times. There is a reaper on the eastern side of the island at about 140m depth, so as long as you don't swim to the right/east when exiting the docking area you should be fine. There are, however, more than a few Warpers.
I ran into a warper my first trip out to the island. I had no idea what was happening to me.
Reaper Leviathan
type: Raid Boss
hp: 5 million
time to despawn: 45 minutes
location: the undersea
how to summon: get to the undersea. to do this, you need at least 6 players who all are level 2500+. then, head over to the submarine in tiki outpost. talk to the guy standing next to it, and he will open up the submarine. after 6 lvl 2500+ players each sit in a seat (there are 12 seats), a cutscene is played where the guy pulls a lever and the submarine is dropped into the ocean. afterwards, you are teleported to The Undersea. your accessory is automatically replaced with a submariner suit. it allows you to breath underwater. because you are underwater, you can move around freely, wether it be up down right left forwards backwards (unless youre in the submarine and the doors are closed), but so can the raid boss. after 15 seconds have passed, the submarine door will open, and there is an animation of the reaper leviathan tunneling out of the ground. after the fight, once everyone takes a seat in the submarine, the door closes and a cutscene plays of the submarine going up, and them you are teleported back to the submarine area in tiki. you can only fight him once every 25 minutes.
description: a 55 foot long black serpent, with jagged scales, and has 4 glowing, red eyes. it has bioluminescent stripes running down it’s sides, and has mandibles
moveset:
bite—charges at a player and attempts to bite them, if successful does 5k damage, breaks instinct, cooldown 10 seconds
charge—charges at a player/group of players and rams through them, if successful does 3k damage, breaks instinct, cooldown 10 seconsles
screech—the creature roars, and deals absolutely massive AoE, dealing 3k damage, breaks instinct, cooldown 10 seconds
tail swipe: the thing does a tail swipe, if successful does 4k damage, doesnt break instinct but if you dodge it it consumes all charges and instinct is disabled for 30 seconds, requires at least 3 charges to dodge, cooldown 10 seconds
chase—chooses a single player and chases them, biting and whipping its tail at them for 10 seconds, each swipe/bite does 1k damage, cooldown 10 seconds
guaranteed drops: 5 leviathan scales, 6 levels, 500k-1 million money and 2-5k fragments
not guaranteed drops: reaper scales (30% drop chance to get 1-5 scales), can be used to craft reaper leviathan shield (costs 50 scales and a monster magnet) with the beast hunter (basically the leviathan shield, but is black, has light green bioluminescence, gives 2000 hp, blocks 95% of water damage, 20% against all attacks, 40% defense against sea events [reaper levi doesnt count]
sorry if the boss is inaccurate I havnt played subnautica in forever
You should genuinely contact devs. But if you want it in the game it can't be a direct reference to the reaperm this is a perfect idea
every time I do they ignore me and last week I got locked out of discord
lowk the most fire thing
Do Reaper Leviathans respawn? I haven't seen Sammy the Reaper in a while.
You bastard...you killed Sammy!
Oh No Dude!
No. No Leviathan with specific locations (anything not in the void) respawn. IIRC, crabsquid don't, either.
so, ik if Reaper Leviathan just appear in: Dunes, Mountain, Crash Zone and "Crash Zone Mesas", but it can move for Mushroom Forest, Kelp Forest or another biome? and they stay spawning front or close of player like happening as before? (if you question: i marked this as spoilers bc i think if say where it spawns are a spoiler).
They have specific spawn points and do not respawn once killed. They can however follow the player into other biomes where they might stay instead of returning to their original spawn point. Hope that clears it up for you.
this helped, but, what about they spawn right front of you or next to you?
They spawn in a specific spot, whether that is in front of you or anywhere else depends on where you are facing. If you need to see a map, check out subnauticamap.io and you can see exactly where they are and how to best approach them.
Yes it can move to other biomes usually by following the player, very rarely does it happen on its own. Also they will stay there until they follow something back.
thx, this helped.
