TL;DR
Common Issues with Updates
Users often experience issues when trying to update their MacBook Air due to various reasons. One frequent problem is receiving an error message like "Failed to personalize the software update." This issue can occur during attempts to transition from a beta version to a stable release [4]. Some users have reported that even after following standard troubleshooting steps, they still encounter difficulties, indicating that the problem might be more complex and require professional assistance
[4:1].
Troubleshooting Steps
Several troubleshooting steps can help resolve update issues. One method involves using the terminal command softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer
to download the full installer directly from Apple's servers [4:4],
[4:6]. Another approach is to use Apple Configurator with another Mac or a macOS virtual machine to reinstall the operating system without losing data
[4:2]. Restarting the Mac has also been a simple yet effective solution for some users
[4:7].
Gradual Rollout of Updates
Apple sometimes releases updates in phases to manage server load, which means not all users will receive the update simultaneously. If your device isn't showing the latest update, it could be part of this gradual rollout process [5:1],
[5:4]. Users are encouraged to check regularly or switch to the public beta channel to access updates sooner
[5:2].
Additional Resources
For those seeking alternative methods, websites like http://MrMacintosh.com offer resources such as InstallAssistant.pkg files, which can move installers to the Applications folder for easier access [4:5]. Additionally, visiting the Mac App Store may provide another avenue to obtain updates
[4:8].
If these solutions do not resolve the issue, consulting Apple Support or visiting a Genius Bar may be necessary to ensure your MacBook Air can update smoothly.

Yea you need therapy, and yes the drugs are the reason you felt “alive” with them. Go to therapy and please see a support group for addiction.
When you use drugs during a relationship it creates this experience in which you associate the partner either the high you feel. You also vibe one addicted to the relationship in a sense. But it’s not love because someone who loves you wouldn’t encourage you to harm your body.
It sounds like maybe you just aren’t that into your current boyfriend. It doesn’t have to have anything to do with the drugs. You could just not like him as much.
I’m so sorry for what you’re going through, I will be praying you do not do something bad
I will be praying for you 🙏🏼

Edit: is your mom abusive? Do you have any kind of support system?
do you compare yourself often to other trans people? or spend alot of time reading negative dooming shit?
I do often compare myself to photos I find on Reddit but I don't spend much time reading negative stuff.
IDK why I am so so dysphoric and negative about my body when it is not that bad. Maybe I just need to get on HRT and it will go away but I am failing at that :(
It appears that I am FULLY stuck on this. I have disabled iCloud find my, made another administrator, reinstalled macOS for the fourth time, used safe mode, disabled the proxy, used root account, and none of that worked. I am trying to update from the last public beta before RC to the stable release and I still get this message.
This happened a while ago to me when i wanted to try the 26 beta from sequoia, what fixed it was reinstalling macOS through Apple Configurator with my macbook connected to a macOS vm running AC then choosing to restore from my time machine backup so i didn't lose anything. a real mac will work too tho and should be preferred, i just only have one mac
Basically (since im realizing what i wrote isnt very clear)
Have another mac or vm running Apple Configurator
Plug the main mac into the mac running AC
I think i chose the 'Update' option but I don't really remember, there are probably guides
Restore from a time machine backup (so you dont lose anything)
Updates work (at least for me)
Also the main mac needs to be in DFU mode to work with apple configurator iirc
I keep having issues with the reddit mobile app where my comments dont actually post, can anyone tell me if this did?
it is also happening with the web version of reddit.
Or from Mac App Store.
It’s not as stated of the download macOS versions website on apple. They also said that you can only get it from settinga
It was for a bit, if you need it, go to mrmacintosh.com full installers and download the Installassistant.pkg, it will move the installer to Applications folder, launch it or create a USB installer.
I was looking for the installpkg for Tahoe. Thanks A LOT!
command line from terminal softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer
Download full installer using terminal.
Paste this to your terminal. It will check apple servers for available download and if it is, it downloads the full official installer to your Mac:
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 26.0
I restarted my Mac and it fixed it for me
I just did… for the 31th time
I experienced this error a few weeks back on a M4 mini when trying to upgrade to 15.6.1 from 15.6.0. At that time I did all the usual things apple support suggested and eventually took it into the genius bar where they used the configurator to restore the firmware and installed 15.6.1. Come this morning I see updates to 15.7 and to Lake Tahoe. When I try to update to either I got the same message.
I called up Apple Support, referenced my earlier case and explained I want a computer that updates without having to do the whole DFU thing. Pretty quickly got a call from a senior tech and after trying a few things he got me to download and run the 'Capture Data' program to capture some system diagnostics. Within 2 hours of uploading the diagnostics I got a call back and it looks to be a hardware issue and I have to go back to the Genius bar for repair.
Your root cause may be different of course but if you are still under warranty and it keeps happening then leverage apple support.
Already pressed Check for Update
They kinda messed up the MacOS Tahoe release lol (Macbook Air M4)
Press on beta public and you’ll get official after 15.7 then you will get another 1.8GB update and your set
It’ll show up eventually, as is their usual practice of a gradual rollout
I had an option for either
Its normal it comes out in patches, so Apple servers don't load
I need help with my mac. It’s a MacBook Air from 2019 and when I opened my mac in class this morning it was updating. 4 hours later when I came home, nothing had changed, so I tried to turn off my MacBook to see if it would stop (because I have work to do and I desperately need to use it). It turned off, however, when it turned back on it is not stuck in this loop of loading a little bit with the Apple logo, then shutting down again, and then it starts updating again with the Apple logo, but then shutting down again. This just goes on and on and on and nothing changes. Please help, idk what to do!
UPDATE:
I managed to get it back to normal through pressing I think it was Command + R and it brought me to MacOS utilities. I then restarted my mac through reinstalling MacOS Sonoma. So all is good. Thank you everyone for the advice though :’)
have you tried charging it? not sure but maybe it needs more power before the update can finish?
Yeah I have, it’s currently plugged in charging at the moment so it should have enough charge, it’s strange
that is very odd i've never had that issue before ngl. i hope you figure out i'd be soooo mad lol
Boot in recovery (R key while starting, I think). Then reinstall the system. Do NOT shut down while it does it.
Once you're booted into Recovery Mode, make sure you have enough free disk space before reinstalling Mac OS like Electrical_West_5381 suggested.
Turn OFF automatic updates in settings so it doesn't update at an inconvenient time again.
I would try.. back up your MacBook and delete and create a new partition which will delete all the existing your data.
Got a 2017 MacBook Air from a friend. On first boot, it said “update failed.”
Tried Internet Recovery to install a fresh copy of Monterey (formatted the drive and everything). It would get to ~10 minutes left, then fail.
Next, I made a bootable High Sierra installer on my old MacBook Pro — that worked fine. From there, I tried upgrading to Monterey… still failed.
Created a bootable Monterey installer from the Mac App Store image — same failure (screenshot in post).
Eventually, I managed to get it up to Mojave, but that’s it. No Catalina, no Big Sur, no Monterey. Just Mojave forever, apparently.
Anyone run into this before or know why it’s happening?
Use DFU and try to revive/restore it, if you have another Mac handy.
dfu mode is only for apple silicon macs, not intel ones like the op's 2017
Wrong. DFU works on Apple Silicon and T2 Macs.
In my experience, the Ssd could be at fault. Some Ssd, even from Apple have a hard time upgrading the firmware I have encountered the same issue and the only solution has been to replace the Ssd. You can also try to install open core on another SSD and then try to install it on the faulty one. The reason being is that sometimes some ssd do not allow the firmware on the computer to be written. Hence the problem. try that and let us know.
A no screenshot B. I just installed sequoia the other day, when you get that error, keep restarting
Oh, huh
I've got a 2015 MBA at home running Sequoia like a champ, so your 2017 should be no issue at all.
Here's what I'd do:
Get an entirely new, quality USB key or external drive for your installer. I've seen so many stories of failed installations due to poor media!
Find a family member/pal with a Mac running modern MacOS and make an OCLP-enabled installer for your 2017 MBA. Make sure to select the correct model during creation!
After booting off your new key/drive, make sure you delete any partitions on your existing internal drive. This will ensure you get a 100% clean installation.
Report back!
I've done tons and tons of OCLP installs on a range of Mac hardware using the method above and more or less every time, it "just works".
You got this!

When trying to update to macOS Tahoe 26 Beta 4 I am met with the following text:Failed to personalize the software update. Please try again. An error occurred while downloading the selected updates. Please check your internet connection and try again.
The error when trying to update
I have had the error since getting the possibility to update my computer, and I have tried everything that I can find whilst googling. That includes:
I am writing here in hope that some guy on the web knows the solution, because i sure do not.
Try downloading the installer here
Thanks. But is this installer not just reinstall Tahoe on my mac?
Afaik you can just in-place upgrade with the Install macOS beta app it unpacks since the data volume is separate from the system volume.
i have a macbook air 2017 and i want to download mac os catalina on it, on the apple website it says that it’s compatible, the update doesn’t show on the app store and when i go on the apple site and click mac os catalina download it transfers me to appstore and then when i click download an error like this pops up “AMD-Action::SP”
idk what to do cause there is 20GB of storage please!!!!!
What is the version of macOS you currently have installed? Is it older or newer than 10.15? As it’s somewhat relevant I should also mention that Apple changed the numbering system with macOS Big Sur (11), and will be changing it again this fall with macOS Tahoe (26).
it’s the mac os high sierra 10.13.3
The installer for macOS Catalina is available from here but you can actually install up to macOS Monterey which is 2 whole releases more recent.
Why can't I update my Macbook air
Key Considerations for MacBook Air Update Issues
Compatibility: Ensure your MacBook Air is compatible with the latest macOS version. Older models may not support newer updates. Check Apple's official website for compatibility lists.
Storage Space: Insufficient storage can prevent updates. Make sure you have enough free space (at least 15-20 GB) to download and install the update.
Internet Connection: A stable and reliable internet connection is essential for downloading updates. Check your Wi-Fi connection and try restarting your router if necessary.
Software Conflicts: Sometimes, third-party software can interfere with the update process. Try disabling or uninstalling any recently added applications before attempting the update again.
Update Process: Ensure you are following the correct update process. Go to System Preferences > Software Update to check for available updates.
System Integrity: If your system files are corrupted, it may prevent updates. Running Disk Utility to repair your disk can help resolve this issue.
