What Redditors are Saying

Best Support Heroes in DOTA 2

TL;DR Popular support heroes currently include Winter Wyvern, Shadow Shaman, Lich, and Dazzle. These heroes offer strong laning abilities, teamfight potential, and utility that can help secure victories.

Strong Laning Phase Heroes

Several heroes are praised for their strong laning phase, which is crucial for setting up a successful game. Undying and Lich are noted for their ability to dominate the laning stage [1:3], [2:1]. However, Undying may not be recommended for new players due to his limited late-game impact [2:2], [2:5]. Phoenix also stands out with a solid laning phase and significant teamfight contribution later on [1:4].

Heroes with Teamfight Impact

Winter Wyvern is highlighted for her strong lane presence and impactful ultimate, making her a versatile pick for both position 4 and 5 [1:1]. Phoenix is another hero mentioned for his excellent teamfight capabilities, thanks to abilities like Supernova and Sun Ray [1:4]. Shadow Shaman is recognized for his powerful disables and pushing power, which can turn the tide in teamfights and objective control [4:1], [4:2].

Utility and Versatility

Dazzle is favored by some players for his ability to save allies with Shallow Grave, providing clutch plays during fights [1:2], [4:5]. Keeper of the Light (KOTL) is suggested for his pushing and team utility [4:4]. Jakiro offers crowd control and damage over time, contributing to both defensive and offensive strategies [2:1], [4:1].

MMR Gain Strategies

For players looking to climb the ranks, Witch Doctor, Shadow Shaman, and Oracle are recommended for their ability to influence games significantly [3:1]. These heroes provide a mix of healing, disables, and burst damage, making them effective in various scenarios.

Personal Enjoyment and Playstyle

Ultimately, the best support hero can depend on personal enjoyment and playstyle preferences. Some players find satisfaction in heroes like Grimstroke or Techies, who offer unique gameplay experiences [1:6], [5:1]. Experimenting with different heroes and finding one that resonates with your playstyle can enhance your overall gaming experience.

Shadow Demon, when they fix laning.

other than that, Lich. Because fuck the entire laning stage. Why even bother when you just auto-win?

Phoenix. The hero is just really good right now tbh.

Grimstroke

A bit complicated tbh. There are strong laners like nortrom or undying, but then again they offer little after the laning is over (global silence and tombstone respectively). Phoenix also screeing somewhere outthere with his fine laning stage and huge teamfight and lategame impact via eggs and sunray.

But my personal choice is winter waifu. Strong lane presence, shoves lane, good disrupting/initiating ult and she can be played both as 4 and 5. Also she is a milf

Best supports right now?

I'm fairly new to the game and find myself most comfortable playing as a support position.

So, what are some good support heroes I could play in this meta?

Edit: thank you all very much for your suggestions! :)

Jakuiro and Lich are still strong, so are Bane and Snapfire.

Undying should also be strong. I hadn't the opportunity to play him this patch but the focus on laning and early fighting should benefit him.

I do not recommend undying to new players as he doesn’t provide much in the late game and it can be frustrating when your team all runs to the jungle whenever they can instead of pushing when he is strong.

Hey, today I'm sharing a list of heroes that are the best to gain MMR with. There's a specific type of heroes I think it's way easier to win as support and this is the list for the latest patch.

What are some good supports to play?

Posted by Prit717 · in r/DotA2 · 6 years ago

I’ve recently been playing lion and winter wyvern quite a bit, but I was wondering if there were any others that have an easy time carrying the game if you can play them well enough. Position 5 would be preferable.

I’d say shadow shaman is pretty good because has good disables and also pushing power, so you can help your team in team fights or pushing when needed. Also from my perspective all supports that has disables and pushing power are pretty good, like winter wyvern, jakiro (is a bit slow but still), witch doctor (more focused on burst enemies but also has a some kind of disable and some pushing power), lich (if you like to play more defensive), cristal maiden (I didn’t played it lately but his ult buff is pretty good), keeper of the light (more pushing and team fight, also the chakra magic is pretty good to help your core in lane), leshrac (you need to farm more, but has great farm tools, pushing power, good damage, a non reliable disable, also is fast), lion (disables and burst, but I feel like lion is better suited as a pos 4 than 5, because with some farm you can become a killing machine), there may be others but that’s some that I can recall now and some that I usually play with.

AccomplishedSplit702 · 6 months ago

You can't one man this game anymore like it was possible 4-5 seasons ago. Even a top masters player can lose in low elo if the whole team truly sucks. However if you want to carry and take over the game then support is not your role. Play jungle or mid then. Bard and Zilean are best supp bets to impact on objectives and tf enough to win a match.

Zyra is queen for low/mid elo farming. Falls off a bit around diamond, but still viable.

Aterix21 · 6 months ago

As a Milio fan, why Jhin specifically? I know Milio pairs really well with the long range adcs and Lucian but why Jhin?

5 upvotes on reddit
puddingboofer · 6 months ago

Jhin benefits greatly from movement speed and rapid fire cannon. Milio's w is a mini rapid fire cannon, giving extra range. Milio's passive also makes the next damage an ally does do extra burn damage. So when Jhin has a 4th shot in the barrel, you can give him extra range and damage on it for a big free "trade". Slap an e on him and it's not even a trade with the move speed and shield(s). They get chunked and Milio just loses a bit of mana. I don't think we've ever lost lane with my cousin who's a jhin one trick.

5 upvotes on reddit
Random_Shades · 6 months ago

Another aspect is that Milio passive scales with ally AD and Jhin gets some of the highest AD numbers in the game.

I’m pretty much rode naut from iron to plat. Low elo players don’t play against hook champs very well.

No-Lychee-855 · 6 months ago

low elo don't play well WITH hook/engage champs either lol.

8 upvotes on reddit
Totoques22 · 6 months ago

There is a massive difference between hook and engage champ in low elo

Engage almost always waste their cc because nobody is ready or in position to follow up while there’s not that problem with Hooks since you always just bring the enemy toward your team

Taoist_Master · 6 months ago

Brand. Low elo there is bad spacing often in teamfights.

Get the enemy team grouped up and say cheese! Take a picture with brand ult and you win the game.

Best support for Spectre

Posted by Majestic-Wedding-909 · in r/learndota2 · 3 years ago

Hi guys!

I play a lot of games as pos5 with my brother, who mostly spams Spectre as carry. I understand that Spectre is too slow for current meta, and I feel that often he needs much more space compared to other carries to go online, and the more valubale laning stage becomes.

Which support would be best to pair with Spectre to win safelane more reliably? I mostly spam cm but I'm not sure this is the best option

Spectre can come online fairly fast. But the first 3 levels are rough. If you get manta + ags you can be a menace in the right game.

Strong (ranged or zoning) supports. Ogre, treant, undying, dazzle, warlock come to mind

As a Spectre player (low MMR), I like playing with Treant and undying. The others tend to push the lane too much which is very bad for Spectre.

Yea, im a 1k scrub spectre player aswell. It also depends on the offlane. Some though offlanes you just wanna push the lane, max dispursion and farm the easy camp each minute.

But i really like her this patch

Warlock

I play a lot of Warlock, spec warlock is a great lane. It's important for carry to remember that warlock has no burst damage, burst heal, or stun (until 6, and even then it's just 1 second), and doesn't usually have his slow until after laning. This means the lane should be played fairly passively. Kills can really only be attempted when the enemy heroes are lower hp than you and don't have a mobility spell or way to turn the fight around.

So why is it a strong duo? Because of warlocks heal?

7 upvotes on reddit
A
Atramhasis · 3 years ago

As a huge Warlock spammer this was literally the first thing I thought when I read the title of the thread. Warlock struggles often in the lane because he can basically only be a heal and pull bot that has to sacrifice his heal potential to harass well. Fatal Bonds and Upheavel are both OK spells in the lane but very rarely do they feel amazing. Spectre struggles with a lot of supports because she also cannot do any real fighting in the lane phase and needs a lot of time. She really only needs a support that can pull and sustain her. Spectre being a greedy carry is perfect for Warlock who also likes to have time to get items like Shard + Holy Locket where his healing gets out of control. After the lane phase, the two are a perfect team fight duo. Warlock initiates with a huge rock and Spectre can instantly follow up, while the Fatal Bonds makes the damage from all the Spectre illusions even stronger. Warlock is one of the few pos 5 supports that both wants a greedy lane partner but also wants to play a little greedy himself, and if you can learn to maximize his support potential early even though the hero is not as strong then you will win most games that go later I would expect.

4 upvotes on reddit
K
Kyubashi · 3 years ago

Spectre on average is a bit more of a 'greedy' safelane hero. While it's certainly not impossible to win your lane or get kills - your average goal is to survive, be able to last/hit deny reliably. As a result, usually defensive heroes do a really good trick for her.

Dazzle is a good homeboy because he has a bit of both.

Warlock makes the enemy cry because, let's be honest, his heal is just that good.

Abaddon, much like dazzle, while not as popular, has a bit of both the offensive touch and the ability to heal you with coil.

Lich can keep you well defended, and is good at harassing from a long distance without needing your help too much.

These supports that do a combination of harassing the enemy without needing your assistance too much, with the added comfort of being able to heal, tend to really play favorably into spectre on Lane.

cm is good with spectre and spectre doesn't have any problems in this meta

focus more on your play and less on your hero choice

DaZ. He's pretty good with any hero. His and specs slow together can really punish mistakes. The heal can keep spec in lane against harass.

Late game spec can be pretty hard to kill especially with someone constantly healing him in team fights.

DOTA 2 tips for Beginners

AI Answer

🤖

Best Support in DOTA 2

Key Considerations for Choosing the Best Support in Dota 2

  1. Role Versatility: Look for supports that can fulfill multiple roles (e.g., roaming, laning, team fighting). Heroes like Lion and Shadow Shaman can both disable enemies and provide crowd control.

  2. Crowd Control: Supports with strong crowd control abilities can significantly impact team fights. Heroes like Disruptor and Earthshaker excel in this area.

  3. Healing and Sustain: Supports that can heal or provide sustain to teammates are invaluable. Dazzle and Warlock are great choices for their healing abilities.

  4. Vision Control: Good supports help maintain vision on the map. Heroes like Treant Protector and Keeper of the Light can provide vision through wards and illuminate areas.

  5. Scaling into Late Game: Some supports can scale well into the late game, providing utility and survivability. Oracle and Tusk can be effective in later stages due to their strong abilities.

Top Recommendations:

  • Lion: Offers great crowd control with his Hex and Impale, along with a powerful burst damage ultimate (Finger of Death).

  • Disruptor: Excellent for team fights with his Static Storm and Kinetic Field, providing both zoning and initiation.

  • Dazzle: Provides healing and can save allies with his ultimate, while also being able to deal decent damage with Shadow Wave.

  • Earthshaker: A classic choice for team fights with his Fissure and Echo Slam, capable of turning the tide of battle.

  • Treant Protector: Great for map control with his ability to heal allies and provide vision through living armor and his ultimate.

Takeaway: The best support hero often depends on your team's composition and the specific game situation. Adaptability and understanding your hero's strengths and weaknesses are key to excelling in the support role.
