Popular Online Retailers
Several online retailers are frequently recommended for affordable prescription glasses. Zenni Optical is a standout choice, praised for its affordability and reliability by many users [1:2],
[3:1],
[4:1]. Other popular options include EyeBuyDirect, which is noted for good sales and discounts
[3:6], and Firmoo, appreciated for ease of refunds and consistent quality
[4:2]. Warby Parker is also mentioned as a reputable option, especially for those who prefer trying on frames in-store before purchasing online
[5:4].
Considerations for Strong Prescriptions
For individuals with strong prescriptions, such as -9 or higher, it's crucial to ensure the lenses are centered correctly to avoid visual issues [1:3]. High Index lenses (like 1.67) can help reduce lens thickness and weight, making them more comfortable to wear
[1:1]. Zenni Optical has been specifically recommended for handling strong prescriptions effectively at a lower cost compared to local opticians
[4:1].
First-Time Buyers and Fit
First-time buyers might benefit from purchasing their initial pair in-person to ensure proper fit and comfort [3:5]. Once familiar with what works, they can explore online options confidently. It's important to have accurate measurements, including pupillary distance, to ensure the glasses fit well
[3:9]. Trying on frames in stores and noting down frame measurements can help when shopping online
[3:6].
Additional Options and Tips
Some users recommend checking out GlassesUSA and Eyemart Express for fast shipping and a combination of online and in-store services [3:3],
[3:4]. For those looking for prescription sunglasses, EyeBuyDirect and RX-Safety are suggested
[5:2],
[5:5]. Additionally, signing up for email alerts from these sites can provide access to significant discounts during sales events
[3:6].
Overall, while there are concerns about the quality of some online glasses, many users find them satisfactory for basic prescriptions and as backup pairs. However, for complex prescriptions, it may be worth investing in higher-quality lenses and ensuring precise measurements.
Help! I’m looking for new glasses, and I’m trying to find the best spot to order online that’s good quality but still affordable. Btw, my prescription strength is pretty strong, like almost -9 in one of the lenses. TIA!
I believe zenni is an online store known for its very affordable prices.
However, with your strong prescription, you'll want have your measurements (e.g. pupillary distance) properly measured since small misalignments will cause visual issues.
Good luck.
At this prescription, it is a bad idea to buy online. They cannot take precise measurements to center your lenses correctly. Decentering the lenses mean you will have unwanted prism effect (image shift).
I also have a tough prescription. I bought online from Hip Optical and they did not charge extra for the hard prescription; though I did choose the High Index 1.67 option.
i need to get a pair of glasses, & im looking online. anyone have any experience &with what websites? hopefully cheaper than outlets- im a college student. any input appreciated!!
What country are you in And how complicated is your prescription? Generally, online glasses kind of suck a little bit. Not terrible, but there is a reason they are cheap. For very basic prescriptions, online seems to be pretty decent. But as things get more complicated, like as your vision gets worse, online glasses get crappier.
US. i kinda figured as much, just need a cheap backup for my contacts. its a pretty mild prescription, but not the same in both eyes ..
I have been using zennioptical for serveral years. Still a happy customer.
You get what you pay for. Who wants to wear cheap frames from China? I prefer designer frames from Italy and Japan. Seriously who wears this crap and goes out in public? Cringe 😬
They look fine to me and last well also. And figure why spend big bucks on glasses when I get a new prescription every year. Cheers
thanks!! i appreciate it!
you get what you pay for.
do you have access to vision insurance?
i do, i just dont need anything indestructible or ridiculously fancy. just a backup for my contacts.
Vision Insurance is so inexpensive I’m not understanding the people that order the garbage from Zenni and other online garbage retailers. Someone the other day posted a pic of their AR Coating from Zenni, it was downright laughable! It was green and looked liked the damn Grinch. I feel like the people ordering from these garbage sites have never experienced high quality lenses and coatings.
There are sites that sell designer frames with Essilor lens/crizal ar, etc. Zenni is just one site, not representative of all online. I would suggest trying on frames that you know fit you in store then looking for them online. I wouldn't blind buy frames online without knowing how they felt first.
I just saw an ad for glassesshop.com and they do the first pair free. I'm ordering some today. Even with adding tint and a case, my total is only $35. I'm nervous about the accuracy of my prescription (really different from past prescription) so this seems like a safe option.
I recently went for an eye exam and found out I need prescription glasses. I’m looking forward to get my first pair, and I thought ordering online would be a convenient way to explore all the options without feeling overwhelmed in-store. I’d love to hear about your experiences.
Which online stores have you found to offer the best combination of quality, good price points, huge selection, easy-to-navigate sites, and fast delivery? Any recommendations for a first-timer getting prescription glasses would be especially helpful!
You might want an optician. Whats your prescription like? Do you need therapeutic tints? Is there prism? Did the doctor perscribe a multifocal or an anti-fatigue lens?
I know in store has a reputation, but find an optical where the opticians are not paid on comission and ask them to talk through your options with you. Bonus you can try on as many pair as you like without having to mail them back. Added bonus of an optician, they can work with your insurance and get you glasses for less than you think.
Thanks for all the tips! My prescription is pretty straightforward, no prism or multifocal. Just standard lenses for now. I’ve mostly been leaning online because I get overwhelmed in stores, but if I end up browsing in person, I’ll make sure to ask about an optician and go through my options properly. It’s really good to know they can help with insurance too.
I've bought from Zenni, iLookGlasses, Firmoo, Goggles4U, and SmartBuyGlasses. Zenni is the most reliable and best value.
You could also check out GlassesUSA.
So many options for me to look into. Thank you!
I’ve tried a few online options. Zenni's one of my go-tos and works fine, but I recently ordered for my mom through Eyemart Express and was impressed. They ship fast, and they have both online and in-store options if you decide trying on frames in person. Definitely worth checking out both when you’re comparing options.
Thanks! I get really overwhelmed in public, so it’s nice knowing there’s the option to do things online or in store. I just checked that they offer good deals for first-time buyers, which is a nice bonus. Sounds like a solid choice to keep in mind when comparing options.
Zennioptical makes my glasses also.
Oh nice!
Buy your first pair in person. Having professional fit/adjustments helps you adapt. Wearing prescription glasses is a lot like breaking in a new pair of shoes. You’ll experience a range of sensations but once over the hump, they should become natural. After you know what works for you, try online. If budget is tight, Costco and Warby Parker offer in person service at great value.
Thanks for the advice and recommendations! I get that trying them on in person helps with fit and comfort. I’m leaning online mainly because I get overwhelmed in stores. So many options and I feel rushed. Browsing at my own pace and comparing styles makes me feel more confident for my first pair. But I’ll definitely keep those stores in mind if I want to try frames in person first.
When you get your prescription make sure to get your prescription written out and pupillary distance measurement.
I'd recommend trying on frames in stores and for the ones you like take pictures of you wearing them and the product info. Look up the product info on their website for frame measurements so you know what fits you best.
I personally love EyeBuyDirect. Sign up for email alerts and watch the sales. Last year the best sale I saw when I chose to buy was President's day with 50% off lenses + 30% off frames. It should be standard, but make sure to get anti-scratch and anti-reflective coatings
Thanks, that’s really helpful! I’ll definitely make sure my prescription and pupillary distance measurement are ready, and I appreciate the heads-up on coatings too!
Kia Ora!
I'm looking to buy some glasses online, I know there are a bunch of different websites so wanted to see if anyone has any that they recommend (or any to avoid!). I have quite a high prescription (-8.5 and -8.75), and I'm worried they won't be good for higher strengths
Thanks!
FIRMOO always. Never had an issue, order from them all the time. You can always get the glasses checked after the fact, and also refunds are very easy to obtain if they don't suit.
I've used Zenni and Vooglam and had good experiences with both
I use Clearly and I’m not far off from you in blindness.
Does Aoolia deliver to NZ? If yes, check them out.
My partner's prescription is worse than yours (-9.25 and -8.5, progressive lenses)
We've used Zenni for my entire family's glasses for years, and love it.
The last pair my partner bought was quoted around NZD 900 locally (very strong prescription + progressive). Zenni charged USD 140 (USD 225), including photoreactivity and lens thinning.
Highly recommend.
Hey everyone!
I want to get some cheap prescription sunglasses because my clip-ons are uncomfortable.
What's the best online shop to look into?
Zenni or Eye Buy Direct.
Thank you!
Eyebuydirect will be a good one. I will avoid ZenniOptical because their glasses will often come with scratches on the lenses even after multiple remake attempts.
Thank you!
Warby Parker are good too.
Thank you!
I use www.rx-safety.com
I think Aliexpress is the way to go. I have bought from them. The products are good value for money and customer service.www.aliexpress.com/store/1104083962
Thank you! I didn't know they did prescription glasses.
Hi where can I buy cheap prescription glasses in Adelaide or online?
Optical superstore. Free frames with your health insurance
My latest pair were from Specsavers. I went cheap, and spent $39 on the frames.
The lenses ended up being about $110; but I've got shocking eyesight and get the lenses ground, which means they automatically get the anti glare film put over them.
They're fine. I accidentally leaned on them and had to very carefully bend the arms back to their spot, and was surprised they didn't snap.
Optical Superstore are great. There's one at Hollywood Plaza.
Depending on your vision, I have terrible eyesights, I got my glasses lens replaced at cotsco , 180, I use my old frame. Opsm quoted me 480 for new lens.
Optical superstore. Have a range of super cheap frames (sometimes free frames if you are low income) & you only pay for the lenses
Hey guys, being a victim of electronic products, I spend most of my time on digital screen everyday! Same as me? Exposed to too much digital screens and much study pressure with bad posture, my sight is getting poorer and poorer. Yesterday, I saw the eye doctor, being told a new glasses is needed. While the frames there make me look like a dork, is there anyone buy prescription eyeglasses online, I’ll be much appreciated to you if you guys could tell me some chic and durable frame brands. BTW, are there some eyewear sites with discounts?

Zenni Optical is great. Around $15 or so for frames, lenses, and shipping.
I used Zenni but because my perscription is so strong I had to buy the glasses with special material in the lens for $60. Although I did really like that you can buy matching clip on sunglasses for $5, Ivwas going to spend another $60 on perscription sunglasses!
Wow~Wow~thank you for your sharing
I've been getting my glasses from Zenni for years, cheap and glasses last a long time, would highly recommend.
Another vote for Zenni. Absolutely love them. Have been using them for a few years. Finally converted my glasses snob of a husband as well. He's now a believer lol
I have also used Zenni for years. I get the blue blocker lenses for upgrade on some pairs. I have seven pairs from there.
I also got a pair from Firmoo yesterday. I have a 50% off coupon if anyone wants to pick up a pair there.
The most important thing is to know the size of the frames you want to they aren’t way too big or way too small.
Does the blue blocker affect what you see normally?
Can somebody tell me how to measure your face for the proper glasses size? S M L?
I've bought from EyeBuyDirect. The glasses were under $30 which was impressive, but the quality of the frame and anti glare is not that great. The frame lasted 6 months, but they are sending me a new pair (just had to pay shipping). For the price I really can't complain, just might have been better to pay more and get something that is going to last longer.
Echoing Zenni or EyeBuyDirect. Plastic frames from Zenni are OK and last me about 1-2yr before breaking. EyeBuyDirect has slightly better quality, on sale it may be worth the extra bucks.
Coastal has the nicest glasses I’ve noticed. And if you register a new email address you can nearly always get a 50% coupon and they always get delivered faster than the estimate
I'm a loyal Specsavers customer, my glasses have broken and I just want to order a cheap pair to see me through until my next eye test in a few months. I like to treat myself to designer glasses every two years and save up for my glasses.
I'm wanting to try somewhere else as the range in Specsavers currently isn't matching what I need for the budget I currently have. Where do you buy glasses from online?
I do have my current prescription so that's not an issue.
Specscart are a really good online option based in Manchester.
I used Glasses Direct the last couple of times. The process takes much longer than you think, due to them sending you frames to try and then returning them, and the quality is probably less, certainly much lower than glasses I had from Boots and independents in the past, but fine for spares or when you're on a budget. Can't compare to Specsavers or Vision Express as haven't bought from them. Check MSE as they sometimes have special offers.

SelectSpecs or Glasses Direct
Hi i accidentally tripped and fell coming off the bus today , i fell on my face, broke my glasses. Is there any program or company that offer home eye exam on the phone or computer. It was hard walking home, i have horrible vision and was told i need surgery to fix my eyesight but i just havent schedule it since i know the price. I work two jobs at the moment and I catch the bus everyday i also have a kid at home. I need to have glasses but i still need it to be affordable. I might be shooting in the dark but i hope one of you guys somehow know something I dont.
I recently bought two pairs from Zenni. They are pretty decent and the prices are great. They don't take insurance but they have glasses as low as $7. I got a $7 pair and it's great. You'll need to know your pupillary distance and I measured mine using the instructions they have on their website, and it works.
Omg this is literal music to my ears. Thank you thank you i literally get depressed without my glasses because not being able to see and still walking around is horrible. Im so happy this website is a thing and i just checked the website and im so happy right now. I mean $7 glasses for the win!
I've been happy with Firmoo. They are extremely cheap. I hate to recommend them, though because I used to blog and they offered me ONE SINGLE DOLLAR to do a blog post for them. I was getting over $200 for some of my posts. But the price of their glasses can't be beat.
My aunt had a good experience at Zenni online
I just checked it and thank you so much for referring its great and exactly what i needed.
Warby Parker is pretty good as well, but not nearly as cheap as Zenni. They stand by their products, I had a pair break and they sent me a new pair for free, I just had to send the broken ones back.
Eyebuydirect!! Their cheapest frames are $6, and there's probably a sign up bonus. If your prescription is not crazy, lenses are even free. You have to dig a tiny bit to find the free lenses. They advertise them, but by default select the lowest paid tier of lenses.
They are always running sales (sometimes including lenses), but they don't combine with other offers. So if you need them asap, find a pair of frames that's on sale already! You do always pay shipping, though. They're great!
I always used to see ads on Facebook for prescription glasses, and as I was walking by the shops yesterday I thought why the hell not pick up my prescription and get me a pair. Anyway £200 later, i have my details and a new pair of glasses to pick up.
But now, for the life of me I can't find the site I was going to buy them from. I just want a small pair of wrap around sunglasses looking pair, for now. If anyone has any recommendations, also, not looking for clip in pairs, full prescription lenses.
Cheers
I've had my last couple of pairs from rxsport.co.uk who have been very good
I'll check them out now, thxs.
Managed to find it https://www.v2osports.com/
Really like the look of this site, will probably try them.
