TL;DR
Popular Shapewear Brands
Spanx is frequently mentioned as a reliable shapewear brand, praised for its quality and effectiveness across various body sizes [1:2]
[4:3]. Although it can be expensive, many users find it worth the investment due to its durability and comfort. SHAPERX is highlighted as an affordable alternative that offers similar quality to more expensive brands
[3:2]
[3:5].
Online and Retail Options
For those looking for online shopping options, B Free is recommended as a good choice for shapewear [1:1]. Amazon is noted for having improved its clothing selection, including shapewear, with some users finding dupes of popular brands like Skims
[3:1]
[3:3]. Major department stores such as Myer and David Jones offer a range of shapewear products, allowing customers to try items on before purchasing
[1:2]
[1:4].
Budget-Friendly Alternatives
Shein is suggested as a budget-friendly option, particularly for everyday wear. Users have found their shapewear comfortable and effective, especially for larger sizes [4:1]. Additionally, Primark (known as Pennys in Ireland) offers affordable shapewear bodysuits that are praised for their comfort and washability
[4:2].
Considerations for Fit and Style
When choosing shapewear, it's important to consider the fit and style that best suits your needs. Some users recommend trying different styles, such as those with hooks and eyes rather than snaps, or ones that go under the bra for better support [4:1]. For events requiring seamless shapewear, double-sided fashion tape can prevent sliding and ensure a smooth appearance
[5:1].
Overall, while there are many affordable options available, it's crucial to find shapewear that fits well and complements your wardrobe choices.
Hello lovelies, I've gotten a few ribbed dresses recently for winter, but am not happy about the overall effect. May I have some recommendations for shapewear shops in Brisbane? I'm a size 12, if that helps. Thanks!
Spanx is the best. Myer is where I got mine originally, and I just buy online now.
Apologies, I don’t have a specific suggestion for shapewear (I tend to just use a pair of Bonds seamless shorts), but I did want to say that I had a similar experience with knitted/ribbed dresses. I’ve found that a lot of the styles on the market tend to be very fitted or straight all the way down, which always had me wearing shapewear underneath as they made me hyper aware of my thighs. I thought that knitted dresses just weren’t for me, but by chance I purchased a knitted dress that had a fit and flare/a-line skirt and it was SO much better! That’s the only cut I go for now!
I will look into that, thank you!
David Jones or Myer will have a selection. Take the dresses with you to try them in the change room. Good luck! I can never get knitted dresses to work on me - they always make me look so blocky. In my case it is the lack of structure- I need a defined waist and some built in shape (and no a belt doesn’t help me unfortunately).
David jones
Thank you!
Came here to suggest the same. I’ve also seen people recommend either Kmart or Target (sorry I forget which of the two is the one people like)
Try B Free online
Also agree re fit & flare, which doesn’t highlight my tummy like the fitted straight ones too.
I have a straighter one but it has directional ribbed sections not just vertical
Try B Free for shapewear.
Oh that's a good idea (directional ribbed sections) I will try that as well!
What good quality, reliable brands make shapewear that will actually do something for slimmer figures? I’ve tried Amazon and Macy’s, but none come in xs so they all seemed loose around the waist. I’d like to avoid lesser known websites if possible

My small Spanx is snug and I’m an XS.
Have an event coming up and need something seamless as I’ll be wearing silk. I’d love Spanx because they’re SO soft but they’re also so expensive :(
(Canada preferably as I don’t have a lot of time!)
Amazon has an amazing dupe of skims shapewear. I have both the knockoff and real. there’s 0 difference besides the brand name tag!
Yes SHAPERX is amazing!!!!! I even wore the bodysuit as a top once and went to a bbq and ate a lot, it was still very comfortable. I’ll be buying more.
Do you have the name of the store? :)
“SHAPERX” I found them because of TikTok lmao I was influenced

Try Knix :)
Idk but amazon shopping for clothes has gotten way better lately Id search shape wear into amazon and see
Looking for some good shape wear (reasonably priced) in the tummy and love handle area 🫶 I’m a size 16/18
If you're looking for cheap as chips, there's a bodysuit in Pennys that i wear a lot, and i find it does the job great, is comfortable and washes really well (kudos to PP who handwashes her shapewear, i'd never manage that :D). I lengthen the straps and wear it kind of tucked under my bra. https://www.primark.com/en-ie/p/seamless-scoop-neck-shapewear-bodysuit-taupe-991108201606
Spanx, skims or atir are the only ones worth trying. Honestly I've some of the same pieces fro. Spanx for nearly 20 years and they still work as good as they day I got them. Do no and I mean do not buy vacious. Overpriced influencer tat that is the same quality as shein
👏
I wear shapewear every day (I’ve lost 75kg so lots of loose skin) and have tried lots of different brands and styles and these ones from Shein are my favourite: http://api-shein.shein.com/h5/sharejump/appjump?link=lev8VvsGDiF_8&localcountry=IE&url_from=GM71044337235
I have about 6 pairs in nude and black on constant rotation and they wash very well. I would really recommend the ones with the hooks and eyes in the crotch rather than snaps and the ones that go under the bra than over.
What size would you go for, are they true to size? Well done on losing the weight I’m on my own journey myself!
Do you find the zip is visible under light fabrics?
Vacious is a fab Irish brand. Great quality that lasts (make sure to handwash). I'm currently on my 3rd holiday in their swimsuits.
The everday vest or shorts might suit what you are looking for.
I found vacious terrible, the material is bad and they make the clothes ride up. Really disappointing from an Irish company.
Mmm the only thing “Irish” about them is the address I’m afraid. Everything else is Chinese, and marked up a billion %. Better buying SHEIN then Vacious.
Vacious is not a fast fashion brand like Shein. It's a Limerick based company who use overseas manufacturing like most brands. The designing, online shop and marketing are all based in Ireland. I've a few of their pieces and the quality is great.
Thank you!
Skims are excellent and really, really comfortable.

I’ve tried every shapewear under the sun, and I’d say the first option looks best, but since everyone has different preferences I’ll share the pros and cons of each so you can decide what you will feel most comfortable with. I will say that with any of these, I’d encourage the use of double sided fashion tape along the top to prevent any potential sliding down while you dance.
Pros: mesh will be breathable, no potentially uncomfortable seams on your bottom, looks to be a good length to appear seamless while also keeping short enough that it would be versatile to wear under different outfits later.
Cons: depending on how they do the seam on the bottom of the shorts it may dig in, but I’d assume this brand is better quality than that due to the price.
Pros: the most versatile of all the options, no worries of digging in on the thighs, looks like it prioritizes belly which is what you mentioned you were looking for.
Cons: you may or may not get the worst wedgie of your life and it doesn’t look super breathable.
Pros: has bottom enhancement, so it wouldn’t make it look any smaller and should have the opposite effect, mesh again will help with breathability, and the length here is also good for versatility
Cons: there are more seams which may be uncomfortable, and it looks like it focuses more on bottom enhancement than the belly area.
Again, everyone has different preferences, so some of my cons may not seem that bad at all or maybe some of my pros won’t seem that great, but I hope this still helps you out a bit.
Im thinking of looking for some shapewear to help my lower belly look better in my clothes. Any recommendations would be helpful! I haven't bought shapewear in years and i feel like you just never know what your going to get.
I got postpartum underwear. They're not as controlling as shapewear, but they're also a lot easier to get out of for daily use. If you just need them for tummy control, they're worth checking out.
I have been wearing Shapermint camis since even before surgery, and they work well. Unfortunately they did change the material maybe a year or two ago and they're nowhere near as compressive as they used to be, but they still do the job.
Hi, u/accordingtoame. We hear you on the compression change on our camis, and thanks for the honest feedback, since we always improve our camis. You can also exchange your camis if you want to try a different style here, Link. Either way, we appreciate you!
Oh I have no plans to return, I just hope you go back to the old Empetua material.
I bought one on Tik tok and it was nice! It really helps suck in my lose skin. I would recommend this one but it does get a bit lose after time. So maybe find the same style but different brand! They are called fajas colombianas and made with a better material
shaper mint is what I use.
I’ve been pretty happy with Shapermint, I just use the tank tops to pull everything up. I think the strappy shoulder strap tanks have less of a tendency to roll up.

It’s hard to help with no idea about the cut of your dress or what you’re looking for out of shape wear
Is this some kind of kit for aligning your chakras or something?
Who’s this ad fishing for?
Manmade horrors beyond my comprehension
Odd that the master race needs tummy control. I would have thought they had that figured out.

H&M and Zara if buying second hand is not a good option for you . I believe used clothes are great for unique pieces but it’s too much work to find a work appropriate modern wardrobe for example. Depends on your stage of life /job
+1 on secondhand. affordable + sustainable. for apps, try ebay, depop, thredup.
for brands, try h and m, zara, abercrombie, hollister, uniqlo
what i do is go physically into stores, try things on to see fit / measurements i like. i then either google reverse image search to find exact garment second hand, or something similar!
Uniqlo has GREAT sales. Go to the store and try things on, as the sizes run a touch small. Once you know your sizes, watch the website. If you see something you like in your size, don't wait too long. I'm an XL and have missed out on some items because I waited too long. The quality:price is excellent, though.
Buy clothes secondhand if you know what you like and are willing to be ruthlessly accurate about your measurements. I use eBay for nearly all of my clothes.
Gap or LOFT on sale
I can’t afford $70 per pair of leggings or anything like that. Looking for decent everyday/gym leggings because I can live in them.
I hate overly tight ones I prefer the soft like butter ones that slip up your legs!
Edit: Thanks everyone!
Rockwear are great when they have sales or if you can get to their outlet stores
Rockwear are great, and always have a sale. Go for the luxesoft pocket tights if you like soft ones.
Rockwear last YEARS. I have 2 pairs that are 7 years old now and still in great condition.
Seconding rockwear. They frequently have sales on leggings so I get them when they are $20-30 each; they have some that are super soft with pockets and repel cat hair. Pretty much cheaper than Kmart with the quality in mind AND squat proof
Thanks I've just ordered 2 pairs!
Yeah, I wasn’t sure if it was just me or not. The M was very generous and I wore them even during weight gain. Last time I tried the XL was very tight but my old M still fit and hadn’t stretched at all. Disappointing as they were well priced, comfy and on sale a lot.
Target was pretty good last time I got some but not as good as my old Cotton On stuff.
The Michelle bridges range at big w has always held up well for me. I wear them playing netball. They get the job done.
I have stuff from there that is 5-10 years old and still holding up. Surprisingly good stuff.
CRZ Butterluxe has changed my life. Before Prime day this year, I’d never heard of them, now they are all I wear. I’m keen to try their swim line too
I bought 2 pairs this yr from their own website. They're fantastic
Target. They have great leggings and tops. I gym 5 times a week and use mainly Target stuff. I'll admit it doesn't last as long as my other more expensive stuff but if you're losing weight or changing body shape, it's fine as you may need new stuff soon :)
I have two pairs of those Kmart ones and they are really great good tummy control, has to be the exact ones though others a quite shit. Pockets are excellent!! The length is great for me as im only 160cm, I actually have to fold them up a bit lol.
Other brand I like and get on sale is the Exotica ones, good sizing and not to tight feeling.
