TL;DR
Popular Brands
Several brands have been recommended across discussions for plus-size shapewear. Skims is frequently mentioned as a top choice due to its quality and inclusivity, although it can be pricey [1:6]
[1:9]. Honeylove is praised for its comfort and support, with features like boning to prevent rolling
[3:1]
[3:3]
[4:7]. Miraclesuit offers sculpting and flattering options up to size 4X
[2:1]. Other brands such as Snag and Luxmery are also recommended for their quality and fit
[1:1]
[1:3].
Comfort and Fit
Comfort is a key consideration when choosing shapewear. Many users emphasize the importance of finding shapewear that provides support without being too restrictive, allowing for ease of movement and comfort throughout the day or during events [1]
[3:3]. It's important to follow sizing charts and recommendations to ensure the best fit, especially for plus-size individuals
[1:5]
[2:3].
Affordability
While some brands may be on the pricier side, there are affordable options available that still offer good quality and support. Shapermint is noted for being budget-friendly while providing decent smoothing effects [3:3]
[4:6]. Additionally, sales and discounts from retailers like Amazon and Selfridges can make higher-end brands more accessible
[1:8]
[4:9].
Special Considerations
For individuals dealing with specific concerns, such as post-surgery swelling or an apron belly, shapewear can provide additional support and confidence. Compression support leggings or shorts might be beneficial in these cases [4:4]
[5:2]. However, it's important to prioritize comfort and avoid overly restrictive garments that could exacerbate discomfort
[4:1].
Additional Advice
While shapewear can enhance silhouette and confidence, several commenters remind users that self-confidence should not solely rely on appearance and that the right partner will appreciate you regardless of body shape [5:1].
I'm still a little bit wobbly on my stomach and hips, and I'd like to have a smoother silhouette for an upcoming party. Does anyone have any recommendations for some good shape wear that doesn't feel too restrictive, as I want to be able to dance comfortably!
Luxmery. I have 6 or 7 pieces and they are worth every penny.
Did you buy the recommended size from their chart? It lists me as an Xs/s but I can’t believe that could be correct.
I'm a size 10 now amd got the xs/s
Skims is the best in my opinion but not the cheapest.
Do they do plus sizes? The last few I’ve bought from different places wouldn’t go past my thighs
They do indeed, surprisingly inclusive
Agreed!
I’d definitely say skims too. I have quite a lot from there now.
I buy them when they have a sale mostly. I’ve a few bits full price - but a bit pricey if you aren’t sure what you want.
They have a sale section that you could check out and see if they have what you want on there 💗
Selfridges sell Skims (bear with me) and Selfridges often have big online sales which include Skims. I've bought some absolute bargains that way e.g. Skims bra and bikini top for £10 each. Also delivery is fast.
This is excellent advice, I have done similar. Also, Net a Porter sell them and also have good sales.
Not really but I will say do not go for anything boned! I made that mistake and the damn things stuck in me.
Take a look at Snag. Depending on what you’re after in terms of control level, you may find you can feel sleek just from their knickers. They do also do shapewear too. I swear by their tights and thongs!
I’m curious what shapewear/corsets etc people have found useful for bigger /fat folks such as myself. Thanks.
Omg okay so im a big girl like 6'1 and a size 24/26 3x usually. We go to a monthly drag show and they do themes so we dress up and its getting more and more elaborate so now I'm getting in to corsets. I was having a really hard time but I came across this site called spicylingerie.com and it sounds sketch but they have a massive steel bones corest selection for plus size people. I ordered a basic black over bust corset and it was genuinely such good quality. I actually got it in a size too big!!!
I'll try and attach the busted photo i took at the end of the night of what my waist looked like with the corset on cause mama i wasn't gonna not get a pic lmao I just placed my second order with them for a sincher for the next show!
One thing I would 100% recommend is get all steel boning and hardware. Cheep hardware will make it harder to get on well and will wear out faster and us big girls need the strength of the steel boning to support us well
Hi, so I’m a fetus queen (if that’s a term lol) I’m a concept, with no looks, makeup or anything, but I plan to start doing drag soonish. I looked on the website as a future plus size diva and maybe I just have no clue how to measure, but based on what I have measured, according to the site you shared, I’d wear a 5X based on my bust and waist, but a 3X based on my hips. No idea how that’s possible unless I’m just incompetent when it comes to measuring😂 cinching is like the one thing that I can’t seem to find reliable info on—like finding/making costumes, getting shoes, makeup, wigs, and everything else is pretty straightforward (at least to me), but corsetry and cinching (and measuring for that matter) is just pretty confusing for me until I see someone with something more concrete. Also I’m commenting here since this is a question I haven’t seen answered a lot and this is specifically relevant to me.
You looking good!!!

I’m just commenting cause I would also like to know!
You could check out miraclesuit! I know their plus size shapewear goes up to 4X and it’s actually super sculpting and flattering, but still comfy enough to wear daily. Good luck!
This is me! I want to get shape wear just to sinch me im a little and give me more shape! I love my body i just was some more shape and smooth it out.
Cacique full body shaper from Lane Bryant! Swear by it!
I finally pulled the trigger on Honeylove for my wedding and I love it so much! Much better quality and support than the more budget friendly (but still decent) Shapermint I had before. The Honeylove shaper short I bought also has (very comfortable) boning that prevents them from rolling down which I always had an issue with with other brands.
I don't have recommendations on shapewear but I think that tucking your shirt in will actually give you some of the shape you're looking for
Yes this or wearing a crop top! Like a long crop though, still below belly button.
Yes exactly! This is what I do
Maybe ill try that agian
Shapellx!
I used to wear shape wear often and it was always honey love. Very comfortable (for shape wear) and I found it really gave a nice hourglass look.
Shape wear that works??
Hello ladies I am in desperate need of some recommendations for shape wear that ACTUALLY WORKS 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I am a UK size 14 and have a wedding soon and I am wearing a lovely black number however I need some shape wear as I am sadly swollen lower down (sadly just been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and the swelling is noticeable for me and I just feel so self conscious and uncomfortable) I know I know us ladies should be confident with ourselves but sadly all this has just hit my self esteem and confidence massively so need something that's going to smooth me out and hold me in if that makes sense. I am a UK resident so need UK retailer recommendations due to the wedding being in just over a week's time.
Side note...I can't justify spending £100 atm in this economy lol.
Thank you in advance for your time and help, I just want to feel pretty for the first time in forever and god knows how long I will get the opportunity to dress up again due to surgery and treatment. 🙏🏻❤️
I really like the brand Shapermint, and they're having crazy great sales this weekend.
Second this, I got two shapers with shorts for $20 each just recently on Amazon! They do the job on a budget.
I use HEYSHAPE for like 2 years
Second Heyshape! Skims are garbage, and Shapermint is smoothing but doesn’t have enough compression.
Honestly I'd wear a trapeze dress instead. Trapeze, fit and flare, or something else that lightly drapes over the lower torso. Do you really want to squeeze your swelling in shape wear? That sounds uncomfortable.
It sounds daft but the support actually helps as I have compression support leggings as I am very heavy down there if that makes sense? So the support aids me, I'm not looking to completely flatten ofc just feel a bit more like me again.
Great idea with the dress however I've already bought one plus I am a 32JJ cup size with a small waist and sadly those beautiful dresses make me look far bigger than I actually am due to my chest, I can't win.
Thank you taking the time to reply, I haven't really vocalised my diagnosis.
Oof, I can see the tent effect with that! Fit and flare, A line, or empire waist, then. If you can just define that bust, your waist should look slender even if there's a slight drape over it.
Honeylove is my go-to. Not cheap but high quality. Good luck to you!
Amazon
I’m looking for a really good suck in sort of shape wear, that will hide the outline of my apron belly in a satin dress. I’d prefer something affordable not something you could spend your whole salary on but still sturdy if such thing exists? Comment and suggestions please!! Thank you 🩵🩵
Maybe thigh society shorts? A little compression + no chub rub!
Agree that you 100% don’t need it though.
You don't need any kind of shape wear. The right guy will NOT care about your tummy. Trust me, it never stopped me from talking to a woman.
Edit: I didn't mean to offend anyone, I'm sorry. I know a lot of women with PCOS who gain weight easily around their waist, but don't have a lot on their lower body. I'm aware anyone can have PCOS and there are a lot of factors that go into a person's size or shape.
I have what I would call a "PCOS body". Extra weight around my stomach, large breasts, and not a lot in the butt or thighs. Most days I love my body, but there's a few dresses I'd feel more comfortable in if I could smooth out the belly, lift the boobs, and shape the butt a little.
Is there a shape wear brand that can even things out a little?
There is no such thing as a "PCOS body" any body can have PCOS. For example I have PCOS as well but I most definitely have a large butt and thighs lol.Try branching out into fashion advice subs and consider posting with a faceless photo or measurements so they can help effectively.
Any good stores known (online also) that have worthy body to thigh shapewear?
I love maidenform’s shapewear. Try on in store. Buy online.
Ordered online. Thank you!
I was given Shapewear from Confident & Bold Clothing Co for my birthday. I have been wearing it for around 4 months now, and I absolutely LOVE it!!! It's unlike any of the other pairs I have tried, it is comfortable, you can't notice it, it keeps everything where it needs to be, and overall I really have no complaints for it, easily a 5 star product. I Definitely Recommend It. Here's the website if you want to check it out. https://confidentboldclothing.com
I’ve used Spanx for years. It’s a nightmare to put on but it does a nice job.
Shapermint has some good options. I have a couple pair of their biker short length, and love them for under dresses. They are quite snug, hold everything in place, and smooth everything out.
I hated the shapermint I got. It never never never stayed up and rolled so bad that I actually called to get my money back.
I'm so sorry to hear that! I really love mine.
Not yet, I'm also looking for a one which is good and comfortable and suit shapewear.
size is important but is it elastic also very critical to me, otherwise, it's too tight to breathe.
Do you have a good option now?
I ordered maidenform for $19 on their website. They are sold through JCPenney also.
Hello! Can anyone recommend me some good shapewear? I am def not skinny but i am not obese either, but i have a huge belly, sometimes it gets bigger than my breasts:( i am not expecting it to magically disappear. What i want is to change the appearance around my waist so that i can wear some fits comfortably. Kindly help me with it.
I’ve tried a bunch of brands before but the only ones that actually stay in place and feel comfy enough to wear all day are miraclesuit. I’ve been using them for a year now and the quality’s solid.
I have an apple shape and don’t have a need for smoothing in the hips/thighs, but I like something that smooths out my tummy and back. What works for me are Honeylove’s tops. I’ve worn this type as a bra almost exclusively for 15 years. Honeylove is by far the best I have found.
Second the honey love rec, although my issue is my lower belly apron flap and I like the criss cross brief for that
Are you apple shaped? Do the briefs roll down?
I get Shapermint's camis off Amazon and wear one almost daily. They give a light smoothing and just enough compression without being uncomfortable.
I like them, too. And their high waisted shorts. The price point is much more palatable than most other brands, also.
I just got a pair of their shorts. They're so good for under shorter dresses.
Spanx. I recently bought some after not purchasing them for 10 years. The past ones did the job, but my word were they uncomfortable after a few hours. The new ones I bought were so comfortable. They were lightweight and breathable but still smoothed everything out and pulled my tummy in.
Looking for some good shape wear (reasonably priced) in the tummy and love handle area 🫶 I’m a size 16/18
If you're looking for cheap as chips, there's a bodysuit in Pennys that i wear a lot, and i find it does the job great, is comfortable and washes really well (kudos to PP who handwashes her shapewear, i'd never manage that :D). I lengthen the straps and wear it kind of tucked under my bra. https://www.primark.com/en-ie/p/seamless-scoop-neck-shapewear-bodysuit-taupe-991108201606
Spanx, skims or atir are the only ones worth trying. Honestly I've some of the same pieces fro. Spanx for nearly 20 years and they still work as good as they day I got them. Do no and I mean do not buy vacious. Overpriced influencer tat that is the same quality as shein
👏
I wear shapewear every day (I’ve lost 75kg so lots of loose skin) and have tried lots of different brands and styles and these ones from Shein are my favourite: http://api-shein.shein.com/h5/sharejump/appjump?link=lev8VvsGDiF_8&localcountry=IE&url_from=GM71044337235
I have about 6 pairs in nude and black on constant rotation and they wash very well. I would really recommend the ones with the hooks and eyes in the crotch rather than snaps and the ones that go under the bra than over.
What size would you go for, are they true to size? Well done on losing the weight I’m on my own journey myself!
Do you find the zip is visible under light fabrics?
Skims are excellent and really, really comfortable.
Vacious is a fab Irish brand. Great quality that lasts (make sure to handwash). I'm currently on my 3rd holiday in their swimsuits.
The everday vest or shorts might suit what you are looking for.
I found vacious terrible, the material is bad and they make the clothes ride up. Really disappointing from an Irish company.
Mmm the only thing “Irish” about them is the address I’m afraid. Everything else is Chinese, and marked up a billion %. Better buying SHEIN then Vacious.
Vacious is not a fast fashion brand like Shein. It's a Limerick based company who use overseas manufacturing like most brands. The designing, online shop and marketing are all based in Ireland. I've a few of their pieces and the quality is great.
Thank you!
Hi! I have 10 month old twins- I gained 120lbs while pregnant and my stomach of course got HUGE!!! I’m on a weight loss journey (50lbs down so far🥹), but I have new problem FLANKS😭😭 I have literal handfuls of skin around my hips, and I would be able to fit into clothes if it weren’t for that, so I’m looking for the best shapewear on the market! Please let me know!
I loveeeee the brand honey love. They’re a bit pricey but I think they are so worth it
What’s ur secret
Honestly, I started out by getting on a low dose(s) of Ozempic for 3 months to help curb my binge eating habits that I ended up getting during pregnancy and never losing- and that did result in roughly 14lbs of weight loss. I didn’t really notice a significant difference though until I actually started to change my diet/drink tons of water. It’s annoying to hear the same thing everyone else says, I know, but being in a calorie deficit (discussed with healthcare provider first of course), eating strictly whole foods/protein, intaking 80-100 oz of water per day and walking 7,500-10,000 steps a day is what really did it for me! I did go from practically stationary (infants+tiny house) and eating microwave dinners to doing all of the above, so I think that’s why it was such a drastic change for me.
That is my biggest issue is the eating due to my breastfeeding journey that only packed my wight on. Ok Ty I have issues with my thyroid and can’t cut the weight there a year Friday

Skims truly are amazing and worth the $$$. Or the OG Spanks.
best shapewear for plus size
Key Considerations for Plus Size Shapewear:
