When selecting shapewear for your wedding dress, comfort and effectiveness are key. Here are some recommendations based on user experiences:
Miraclesuit
The Miraclesuit brand is frequently recommended for its effective tummy control and comfortable fit. Users have praised the "instant tummy tux" for its ability to sculpt hips and prevent rolling down, making it ideal for long wear [1:1]. It is also suggested for lifting the butt, which can be beneficial for dresses with lace side panels where seamlessness is important
[3:1].
Honeylove
Honeylove is another popular choice among brides. It offers seamless options that are particularly useful for dresses requiring a smooth appearance. However, some users noted that while Honeylove provides excellent shaping, it might be cumbersome during bathroom breaks, so consider changing out of it after key events like the first dance [1:4],
[5:2].
Spanx
Spanx remains a staple in the shapewear world due to its high quality and effectiveness. Many users find Spanx to be comfortable enough for all-day wear, especially the ultra high-waisted styles that provide good waist snatching and tummy flattening [1:2],
[4:1]. Some users still prefer Spanx over newer brands like Honeylove, citing familiarity and reliability
[5:4].
Skims
Skims has been highlighted for offering shapewear that is both comfortable and effective. The Skims bodysuit is known for its strong compression, and their low back cut styles are perfect for fit and flare dresses [4:2],
[5:3]. It's recommended to size up for comfort.
Other Considerations
While choosing shapewear, it's crucial to balance compression with comfort, especially given the long duration of wedding events. Super compressive shapewear might restrict movement or affect enjoyment during eating and dancing [1:2]. Additionally, trying on different brands and styles at stores like Macy’s or Kohl's can help you find the best fit for your specific dress and body type
[1:3],
[3:3].
Ultimately, the best shapewear will depend on your individual needs and the style of your wedding dress. Consider these recommendations as starting points and try on various options to see what works best for you.
Looking for the best shapewear out there to wear on my wedding day. I am insecure about my stomach/hip area and want something that will suck me in as much as possible lol. I own spanx but I feel like it’s not doing the job. Thanks!
Just flagging that you might not want to wear super compressive shape wear for a long day! Might prevent you from eating, dancing, and generally enjoying your party :)
I wore ultra high-waisted spanx that were super comfy but still snatched the waist and flattened/smoothed the tummy. The split gusset was clutch bc there was no way I would be able to take shapewear off and on all day/evening.
I ended up wearing Honeylove because I needed something seamless, but I highly recommend going to Macy’s and trying on their various shapewear offerings. The MiracleSuit brand especially.
I went with honey love as well. I will say I changed out of them once our first dance and stuff was over into just regular seamless shapeware underwear. Because honey love + wedding dress = extremely difficult bathroom situation.
I've worn a few things from Yummie before. They are pretty cheap and worth a try. Everytime i go on their site there's a sale going on. Might be worth checking out if you find something you like thats on sale.
I’ve had luck with miraclesuit! I have the instant tummy tux and it’s perfect for tummy control, it sculpts my hips really nicely too. It’s comfy enough to wear all day, and I promise it doesn’t roll down - no lines, no squeezing, no pinching. They have lotssss of options and the fit is amazing!
What's the best shapewear to hide stomach, create hourglass and lift back side? Shapelex vs Leonisa
Thanks!
Thank you!!

I am an older bride and have chosen my dress. The issue is finding the correct shapewear to help smooth out the tummy and possibly lift the booty. The side panels of the dress are lace and so the shapewear must be a nude or at least undetectable. Don’t look at the dark undies I wore to try on the dress. lol. I was not thinking through my underwear choice that morning. Would love to hear suggestions. Thank you!

Check Kohls for the high waisted shorts in nude
Kohls!! I didn’t even think of that one. Thank you!
I swear by miraclesuit. I got a high waisted thigh one and it does the trick with the tummy control and lifts the butt a bit. I think their shaping boyshorts would work great with your dress. They've got tons of options - definitely worth checking out. Good luck!
Thank you so much! I’ll look into that one too!
I've got three wedding to go this summer and I'm looking for the best shapewear to minimize my tummy, maybe even reduce it down if possible. I would also like it to smooth my back rolls.
For reference this is the the dress I will be wearing: https://www.astrthelabel.com/products/satin-puff-sleeve-dress?variant=43000250466480
Since I can wear a full bodysuit shapewear I'd prefer that since it would not roll down. I'll also be using boob tape so no need for a bra.
I saw this shapewear recommended, but I'm not sure if it'll actually provide enough tummy compression: https://spanx.com/products/oncore-open-bust-panty-bodysuit?variant=39773558112467
If anyone has some good recommendations it would be much appreciated!
Edit: Also this is the shapewear I was thinking of getting: https://spanx.com/products/spanxsupersculpt-totalcontour-open-bust-mid-thigh-bodysuit?variant=43016376713427
I have skims bodysuit and it literally snatches me. I think they have sale now, size up one size
My spanx just gave up on me, blame the bloated belly, peri, or too much uses, but I am thinking of trying some new brands like Honeylove, looking at the super powershort, maybe the briefs, I think I'll still wear my own bra though. Let me know what you decide!
I have only tried a handful of shapewear so I can speak to the ones I have tried. My Spanx, while expensive, stands at a much higher quality and effectiveness than the others I have tried. If you are able to make the straps work, the styles you have are excellent
I am looking for the best shape-wear that won’t look bulky on my wedding gown. I’m getting married in July and I’m working out, dieting, etc However I want to look flawless in my fit and flare wedding dress. Any suggestions?
Loved my shape-wear from Honeylove!!
Skims has a low back cut that is perfect for this style of fit and flare! Had a very similar dress and they were so comfortable and smooth. here
Do you mind sharing a photo of it 🙏🏼
It’s linked in my comment! Click “here” :)
Honey love is a newer and great brand - but tbh I still prefer Spanx!
My dress was white satin, and it felt a bit bare without anything underneath it. I wanted a shape wear bodysuit that wasn't super constricting but also felt solid. I tried a few from a few different companies, but ultimately settled on Playtex.
I’m attending a wedding soon and want to wear a fitted dress. Can anyone recommend shapewear that won’t roll down or feel restrictive?
Are you wearing a dress with straps? If so, I find the bodysuit compression shapewear to be the only true way to avoid having them roll down!
It’s one or the other. If it doesn’t roll down it’s because it’s restrictive. My teenage daughter told me I looked snatched in one from honeylove.
I like medical compression. Look at Marena!
I like Honeylove the most, personally. Smooths me out without making it impossible to breathe
I like the miraclesuit slip shapewear for fitted dresses. No lines, no pinching, and it sculpts really nicely! I’ve worn it for hours and it doesn’t roll up or down. What kind of dress will you be wearing? because I also have a bodysuit and it’s my favorite for showing off curves, super breathable too.
Skims has really good Shapewear. I’d get the long version so that it doesn’t cut off mid thigh. Weird trick that sometimes works great is to use part of a cotton ball in your belly button with a flower nipple cover over the top. You have to experiment to get the right amount of cotton. Not too much or too little. Shapewear over the top.
Thanks so much I’m going to try this!
You look lovely! I think letting those curves shine adds so much appeal to the whole look. Truly don’t think you shapewear love 😊
You look amazing! You actually look like you already wear shapewear!
That’s so nice thank you!
You don’t need shape wear at all!
Hourglass figure!! VA VA voom!
Beautiful dress and it fits you just perfectly!! If shapewear would make you feel more confident then by all means but rest assured you look incredible and no one will be looking critically at you. Who is the designer of this dress?
Thanks so much I appreciate it! The designer is Trish Peng. She an NZ designer!
It's my second marriage and I have 3 dresses, picked up on sale over the last year lol. O
I think the one I've decided on in a Halston strapless midi dress in crepe fabric. I love how comfortable it is but it does nothing to hide all the bumps and lumps.
I've considered Spanx but I know there are a ton more out there. Best suggestions?
TIA.
My wedding dress is also crepe material. I bought Honeylove shapewear and although they’re comfortable, they show through the dress.
I’m going with Skims high-waisted thong. It’s not showing through the crepe material.
This is so good to know, thank you so much!
You’re welcome! Good luck 🙂 It comes in a bunch of nude colors
I wore Kim Kardashian’s Skims. I started with spanx and didn’t like how uncomfortable and tight it was and I was surprised to find how comfortable the skims were.
I used to swear by spanx.
I got a new pair of spanx a couple of months ago and, holy shit, it is painfully tight and unforgiving. I’ve actually lost weight/inches, so I’m surprised that the fit was even worse than the first time I purchased spanx around 6 (maybe more) years ago. The fabric is completely different from the identical product I purchased previously.
Just totally different fabric/weave. Stiff and very little give vs buttery and elastic.
It’s really disappointing when companies change up a good product to cheapen it.
Shapellx.com
Honeylove or skims
I love my shapewear from Honeylove. By far the most comfortable shapewear I have ever worn.
I’m dead set on wearing shape wear on my wedding day to help suck me in and just give an all round smoother shape. Only issue is every pair of spanx I’ve worn constantly roll down 😩
Anyone have suggestions or recommendations for shapewear that won’t do this?!
Update-Thank you for all the recommendations-I bought the Honey love power briefs 😁
I have this same problem because my torso is way too short, i can pull most of it over my boobs and even using a bra to hold it in place doesn’t help.
I have heard that people like Honeylove because it has soft boning that holds it up. I’m going to try something like that and see.
I just ordered a pair of seamless tummy control shorts so I’ll report back and let you know what they’re like 🫡
Good luck! Report back!
Well?!?
Honey love! I had originally tried spanx but they were so uncomfortable and kept rolling down! Honey love sucked me in and was so comfortable, I forgot I had them on! Worth the investment.
Here to also say honey love! I ordered a few different sizes and styles to try on and their return policy is great. I really liked that the power shorts had a strap that you can use to go over your shoulders to help hold them up-- I probably described that poorly, but it reminds me of suspenders.
Honeylove is the way to go! I'm wearing them on the big day. I was fighting for my life getting SKIMS on and Spanx just didn't feel good at all.
SKIMS were trash for me, and this coming from someone that’s used to having to wear compression hose. Boooooo SKIMS!
HONEYLOVE!
Y’all, the social algorithms know I’m getting married and I keep seeing ads for shaper mint and honey love and a bunch of others that have influencers I don ’t know making claims about how good they are. But from real Reddit brides, which shape wear actually worked for you and didn’t roll and lasted the whole day? TIA!!
I bought Shapermint shorts for use while trying on dresses and they were very quickly NOT the right kind of shape wear. They rolled down a lot. I ended up getting a very form fitting crepe dress and in addition to rolling down, you could see the line of the shorts on my legs through the dress. I ended up getting SKIMS and have been very happy with them! They are definitely TIGHT but they do the job!
ETA: I haven’t had my wedding yet so can’t comment on how they perform all day, but so far have been happy in my fittings with skims.
Used to work in the lingerie dept at Nordstrom! Here are a few reccomendations: -TC Highwaisted Thigh Slimmer (has boning in back to help keep shapewear from sliding down) -Skimms Solution Short (great if dress has a slit) -Spanx Undie-tectible thong (perfect for a little tummy control and also good for layering underneath other shapewear)
I personally find highwaisted shapewear (not mid-waist) to look the most seamless. Depending on the cut of your dress and if you are able to wear bra, have some one help you "lift up" the shapewear so that it comes right up to your breastline. Then put your bra right on top of the edge of the shapewear so that there is no gap between shapewear and bra. This also helps with strapless bras always tending to slide down!
Also, you can consider having alterations done for shapewear if you find a piece you really love but needs the length adjusted especially in the thigh area!
Oh and find having shapewear with a gusset opening is really handy and makes using the bathroom so much eaiser instead of having to take the whole thing off!
Any recommendations for petite shapewear? I'm super short waisted and also tiny, so a lot that I've tried on have been too big and too tall
Do you think the spanx undie-tectable will work under crepe? I can’t tell you how many options I’ve bought that end up showing under my dress. My current plan are the skimms high waisted shorts but I’d love a less-hard-to-get-on backup plan for the reception.
I ran into the same problem with my crepe low-cut dress (had to get something that only goes up to mid-waist). After trying a bunch of less expensive options I bit the bullet and got the spanx haute contour mid thigh short, which turned out to be perfect.
Omg I also have a crepe dress. Haven’t bought any shapewear yet because of that. I was planning on utilizing spanx return policy and just try all of them lol
Do you have any experience with the Spanx Suit Your Fancy Plunge Low-Back Mid-Thigh Bodysuit ? I’m considering it ...
The Spanx body suit line are great if they properly fit someone's body! Becuase the cups/bra are built in it to the actual piece of shapewear it can be difficult to get a customized look. I find that it doesn't work great with people with very long or very short torsos and/or large breasts.
It is hit-or-miss so I reccomend trying it on before purchasing or buying it from a store that has a good return policy!
Thank you!! I have yet to think about a bra. I have 36DDD so I don’t usually wear bras. I’m secretly hoping my corset will take care of that for me, but we will see ♀️ thank you so much for your insight
I have some from Honeylove that work really well, the boning is the key I think. I’m not going to be able to wear them on my wedding day because my dress is low in the back, so something to keep in mind! The Honeylove one I have come right up to below my bra strap
I used a spanx bodysuit (shorts silhouette) and I was comfy all day long! I felt very sleek and athletic wearing it haha
I bought a honeylove shaper. They aren’t paying me to type this! I like that it squeezes in my tummy but doesn’t squeeze my hips or butt. It’s a bit difficult for me to wiggle out of but I think that can be said for most shape wear. It’s not a miracle worker, it didn’t make me a size smaller or anything, but it did straighten out my gut without flattening out my flattering curves.
best shapewear for wedding dress
Key Considerations for Choosing Shapewear for a Wedding Dress:
Style of Dress: Consider the cut and style of your wedding dress (e.g., A-line, mermaid, ball gown) to choose shapewear that complements it. For example, a mermaid dress may require more targeted shaping around the hips and thighs.
Level of Control: Decide on the level of compression you desire. Light control is suitable for smoothing, while firm control can help shape and sculpt your figure more dramatically.
Comfort: Look for shapewear made from breathable, stretchy materials that allow for movement and comfort throughout the day. Seamless designs can also help avoid visible lines.
Length and Coverage: Choose the right length based on your dress. Bodysuits, high-waisted shorts, or slip dresses can provide different levels of coverage and support.
Size and Fit: Ensure you select the correct size according to the brand's sizing chart. Shapewear that is too tight can be uncomfortable, while shapewear that is too loose won't provide the desired effect.
Recommendations:
Spanx Wedding Dress Shapewear: Known for its quality and comfort, Spanx offers a variety of options specifically designed for brides, including bodysuits and high-waisted shorts that provide excellent smoothing without sacrificing comfort.
Commando Control Slip: This option is great for a more fitted dress, providing a smooth silhouette without any seams. It’s also made from a lightweight, breathable fabric.
Yummie Tummie Bodysuit: This bodysuit offers full coverage and support, making it a great choice for a structured dress. It also features adjustable straps for a customized fit.
Choosing the right shapewear can enhance your confidence and comfort on your big day, so take the time to try on different options with your dress before making a final decision!
