TL;DR
Noctua NH-D15
The Noctua NH-D15 is often recommended as one of the top air coolers available. It is praised for its exceptional cooling performance, comparable to some liquid coolers like the Kraken AIO [5:9]. Users appreciate its reliability and effectiveness across various setups, including high-performance CPUs like the i7-12700k
[4:10]. The NH-D15 also comes with a quality screwdriver, which users find convenient
[5:7].
Deepcool AK620
The Deepcool AK620 is another highly recommended air cooler, noted for slightly better temperature management compared to the Noctua NH-D15 at similar noise levels [5:3]. Reviews and testing, such as those by Gamers Nexus, highlight its strong performance in terms of cooling efficiency
[5:4]. It is considered a great option for those looking for effective cooling without breaking the bank
[5:11].
Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4
For those prioritizing quieter operation and a sleek design, the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 is a popular choice. Although it may offer slightly less cooling power than the NH-D15, its noise reduction capabilities and aesthetic appeal make it an attractive option for many builders [5:10]. It's easy to install and provides a balance between performance and quietness
[5:1].
Other Options
Additional recommendations include the Thermalright Peerless Assassin and Frost Spirit models, which offer good performance and compatibility [4:4],
[4:5]. The IceGiant ProSiphon Elite is mentioned as a high-end option available in the US, but the Deepcool AK620 is suggested as a more accessible alternative
[5:5]. These options provide a range of choices depending on budget and specific cooling needs.
And y’know, mon mothma, which was just an absolute gorgeous piece of casting
Maybe a hot take, but I don't really like live-action Ahsoka. I feel like she gets duller as a character the more we get from her in the live action.
I honestly think she peaked in The Clone Wars Mandalore Arc and Tales of the Jedi and it's been downhill ever since.
The show was fantastic. It was so much better than it had any right to be.
Curious how’d you find your way into this thread as a non SW fan?
If you asked me 5 years ago if a show about Cassian Andor was a good idea, I would've laughed at you. If you told me that it would one day be my favorite out of all star wars shows I'd be rolling on the floor laughing and think you needed a psychiatrist.
Well here I am, firmly claiming that a show about Cassian fucking Andor is up there with the best shows of all time such as the Wire, Breaking Bad, and Deadwood. It's unreal, and I love it.
I can’t swim…
Pretty solid haul for a show that didn’t have a ton of crossover appeal in the mainstream and was going up against the phenomenon that is The Pitt (which is another outstanding show, hard to be upset about any award Andor lost to it).
Just
Keep
Swimming!!
I’m not disparaging Star Wars. Ive been a fan for essentially my entire life, so I know the average quality of the franchise and how great of an exception Andor is. I also know what these industry organizations tend to nominate, and it’s usually not installments in long running franchises like Star Wars. I like the MCU too, but I don’t expect any of those movies or shows to win awards outside of a tech category here and there let alone awards for writing. All I meant was to celebrate Andor as an achievement, and hope Lucasfilm allows skilled creatives play in the universe with similar freedom to what Gilroy & co got to do with this show.
We are like the r/howardstern subreddit
Engines deserve fresh smelling air as well.
Me trying to coax the last bit of use out of my dying car. Just give it whatever makes it happy.
If this weeeeeere to work. Maybe in the cabin air filter?
Theres this stuff called frigi-fresh u can spray on cabin filters for smellgood
I think there was a post on here about someone spraying some air freshener into their cabin air filter and it made their windows fog up since I think the filter was still damp
One of the luxury brands literally has like scent canisters that are stored under the dash near the glovebox and get atomized into the air after the cabin air filter. I think it's on the Audi RSQ8.
For cleaning the ducts you have special solutions you have to spray an entire bottle of into the cabin filter. Then put your windows down for 10 minutes on full blast.
Works like a charm but applying the solution is awful as in you cough your lungs out.
Dude hangs dong air fresheners
That is why you attach a 6 inch long 1/4 inch wide piece of aluminum foil to the back of your mouse. Damned static electricity keeps crashing the database server.
I've been complemented on how the Maxima 927 that I burn smells!
Instructions unclear, air freshener installed in cylinder head.
I’m sure the biker behind them in traffic appreciates the coconut beach fresh scent exhaust!
Bought this cooler 2 years back and this turns out one of my best purchase. I shifted to NCR 2 years back from Bangalore and bought this cooler to beat the Summers Heat and it really working like a charm till date. It helps me save both money and environment. Though I am not against AC but I think using coolers in dry summers in NCR will help dealing with power crisis. We should focus on using AC + Cooler. PS: I am little bit more inclined towards saving nature.
These room coolers are the best. Just 100 watt consumption in peak May June summers
I bought a Bajaj Shield... Two of my rooms are cool because of it.. Saves money.. Saves the environment and saves me against the bad effects on an AC.
Iam planing to buy one too.. please tell me if the Bajaj one is noisy ?
I've spliced in a fan regulator in my cooler to reduce the wind noise and reduce the electricity consumption further lol.
Buy one with 3 cooling pads. (2 sides and 1 in back). Air actually gets cool. Bajaj cools air but has leaking issues. Try Kenstar.
On your nanga badan /s
Joking (or am I), just put those ice cubes in water which you're putting inside the cooler.
The plastic ones become useless post may, the metal ones are fantastic..
Plastic ones I used very extremely noisy and didn't cool one bit post the month of May..
Yes Metal one obviously best. However this one also is not very noisy, plus it has a feature to adjust the flow of water that helps to maintain humidity level and more I like it to reduce the dripping sound of water during night.
Iam planning to buy it.. In Chanidgarh..iam Not an ac person too and peak summer is almost over! 2 weeks max left) But m worried on the monsoon.. Will it still work.. With maybe the humidity control.. Also is 100 litre good enough or should I go for lesser.. Iam a single guy in a 3 bhk
Deets of the cooler??
We used to buy from the local market, no brand..any local shop, get a water submerged motor, double layer the side khas khas shades.. better go for an exhaust than the regular fan..and if possible ask for a speed control regulator ..
Using same cooler
Bro add ice cubes it makes u take a blanket
Building a i7-12700k (more than likely that chip) but want to air cool.
What are among the best coolers right now? In the $100-125 range.
My current i5-7600k has a cryorig h7.
Look at the Arctic Freezer 34 Duo, be quiet! Dark rock pro 5 , noctua NH-u12A chromax.black
Edit: Thermalright Frost Spirit 140 (FS140)
Noctua NH-D15
Scythe fuma 3 (smaller but asymmetrical, more compatible and very quiet)
Thermalright PA120SE (best bang for buck but not as good as FC140 or FS140)
Edit: I still haven't looked into the DRP5 or the Elite that Be Quiet! has but they are probably good too but much more expensive
To add to this. The phantom spirit 120 is an excellent air cooler and slightly smaller than the frost commander.
Frost Spirit over the Frost Commander, but otherwise- yea, this is it.
Isn't the Commander higher up? More heatpipes but i haven't looked into comparisons between the 2 personally
Frost Commander sounds so cool, though.
I have an NH d15 chromax black on my 12700k. The highest I've seen temps is in the low 60s.
Don't forget the DeepCool AK620
Thermalright peerless assassin, NH-D15, DeepCool Assassin IV
For the price of the deepcool assassin iv, i'd just get the nh-d15 or a be quiet dark pro 4. The performance of the deepcool and noise are just not comparable for how much they're charging.
My 7700x was being cooled by the assassin IV and even undervolted, it was just too loud. Switched it up to the nh-d15 and no issues with temps or noise since.
I think Tech Jesus did a video on this that basically confirmed my fears. it's such a cool looking design but just not up to standards of that price range.
Peerless Assasin. 13700k not OCed idling between 30-35 C.
I second that. probably the VFM king out there
Dh-15 black makes my 7950x sound purrrty
With unlimited budget, what is the best air cpu cooler?
Needs to be compatible with LGA1200
Probably the IceGiant ProSiphon Elite but it's only available in the US.
The Deepcool AK620 is what I would go for instead.
I wouldn't call that an air cooler by any stretch.
That Noctua cooler is one of the best but isn't the absolute best anymore in terms of outright lowest temperature at a given noise level. The Deepcool AK620 is a little better in that remark. GN Testing: https://youtu.be/UGM6FcLDckk?t=692 This video goes into more detail about the cooler itself and how it compares to a bunch of other high-end air coolers like the Noctua
Deepcool AK620. GN Testing: https://youtu.be/UGM6FcLDckk?t=692
The Noctua NH-D15 is generally viewed as the best traditional air cooler regardless of cost.
Not necessarily deepcool assassin 3 is better than noctua NH d15.. Because i have used both
A lil bit late, but still maybe usefull. Deepcool AK620 is better in my opinion then both, if you're looking for budget. If you have unlimited budget I would go for the NH D15.
An alternative to the Noctua one is the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4. Slightly worse cooling, slightly better noise levels, different aesthetic. I personally really like the look so I’ll probably go for it in my next build.
I replaced my Kraken AIO with Dark Rock Pro 4 and I am super happy. Just awesome cooler and pretty easy to install (some air coolers are pain in the ass to install)
And you get a very nice screwdriver included with the cooler.
Replaced my Kraken AIO with the Noctua NH D15 and I'm also super happy. Same temperatures as a 360mm cooler, can you believe that?
"regardless of cost" means that there isn't a more expensive cooler that performs better, that phrase does not imply it's a good value.
My HOA won't allow window units hanging out the window, and I don't really have an ideal place to put the air conditioners that sit inside but use a window to vent.
So I'm looking at evaporative air coolers like THIS ONE but it says a full water tank only lasts for 4 hours?? it won't even get me through the night? It has an option to be connected directly to a water line, but that's not an option for me.
Anyone around here try any of these out or know of one that lasts longer?
Also, how effective are they in SJ? I read that their efficacy changes in different climates.
Swamp coolers are great when you're in an dry climate. San Jose gets hot and it can be dry at times, but the coast is just over the hill. Swamp coolers tend to be less effective when moisture is already in the air. They do work, I use to use one way back when and chuck ice in the bucket to help cool things off. Make sure you don't have the thing blowing on anything as the moisture will stick to surfaces and may cause a molding issue.
As others have mentioned in this thread, swamp coolers only work in dry climates and can get super gross with mold over time.
The Technology Connections Youtube channel has some great videos on the subject of swamp coolers and portable AC units.
(Discusses swamp coolers) Personal "air conditioners" aren't what they seem
(Discusses portable AC units) Portable Air Conditioners - Why you shouldn't like them
TL;DR: Don't get a portable AC unit with only one duct. Find a AC unit with ducts for BOTH outflow and inflow.
That’s why you keep it cleaned, fill it wil ice then add water, I have no problem getting ten too twelve hours out of my swamp cooler. Ps it don’t matter what climate you live in.
It def matters what climate you live in. San jose is kinda a tweener where sometimes it isnt dry enough to work super well but swamp coolers just dont work in the east
I haven't used one here, but they're common in NM. ABQ is 17% humidity right now.
The problem when I lived there was monsoon season (late summer) when the humidity would go up.
SJ is 41% right now. They'll still work, but will also make the air more humid inside. They're still functional until about 70% humidity.
In short, it will mostly work. But there will be times when it doesn't work very well.
Seconding this. I grew up in Alb and the humidity is very different. A swamp cooler worked great there (especially in our small adobe house) but definitely would be less effective here.
We currently use a stand alone A/C unit in the bedroom and living room which works well. The key is the time when you use it and try to naturally minimize how hot the rooms get with curtains, outside sun shades, etc. Edit: we have Honeywell A/C units
We had central AC but it was old and couldn't keep up with super hot days. I bought something like this and it did absolutely nothing to keep me cool. We ended up purchasing a portable ac (even though they are not really that portable) it worked great for us and they are not as big as you think. If you have a Costco membership definitely don't wait to purchase. People were buying quite a few yesterday. I did a lot of research I will tell you to stay away from LG. Honeywell is very solid and so is Hisense. If you can spend the extra $$ get dual hose much more efficient.
Instead of a window unit, what about a portable AC with a hose? Those don’t stick outside the window, just between the window and window sill, and you can remove the hose when you’re done.
This. I got one at Home Depot for my 15XX sqft single story SSJ home. I can keep it 10-12º cooler than outside. $300 has saved me from cooking for 9 years now. If it didn't suck so much energy I would get another. Can be put away for winter.
it would require an entire rearrangement of my furniture but could be possible if swamp coolers suck
portable AC units also suck. If you go this route, insulate the exhaust tube and seal any gaps where hot air escapes. It makes a noticeable difference.
They aren't good at all. In a sealed room, it will do nothing to cool down the room. The area in front of it will get cool, but the room will heat up as a whole. Heat has to go somewhere and our cooling solutions just move it around.
A window or floor based AC unit or a mini split is the real way to go. Or, if you can't afford it, but can buy bags of ice cheap, a diy swamp cooler works. I made one for my dorm room 25 years ago and got through a terrible Missouri summer.
I will try to get a swamp cooler. Thanks for the info.
From the description, this is a swamp cooler. What else can "humidifier purifier" mean, if not the air from the fan passing to a water reservoir (sponge)?
EDIT: /u/Dimsml has already explained it.
This looks like a swamp cooler. It cools the air by pushing it through a moist sponge thingy. They work only if you let the moist but now hot air escape, you either need to open a door or window or have a vent outside. They also raise the humidity, keep that in mind.
In case you have a hardware / home applliance store nearby, they might have a bigger better version.
Hardware stören ist a pretty good idea. Thanks for the tip
note that swamp coolers work best in really dry climates. If you're German, a swamp cooler only works marginally in your climate and you'll need to fill it with ice blocks to notice any effect at all. Dont expect a room to drop more than 2-3 degrees C with a big unit. Something like the blower you listed will struggle to drop the temp even 1 degree in a 1x1m2 room
spot the german autocorrection
Might get a bit cooler if you use ice But if you’re in the UK try the B&M shop they sell these for £20. If it sucks just take it back and get refund
You really want a proper air con unit tbh as that one on AliExpress will operate like a tiny fan
Unfortunately a real air con is not an option for me. But thanks for the tip!
A normal fan would be better and just the same price :)
I’ve been so tempted to get these little ones before but I know they’ll be awful
If you put a normal fan in front of a bowl of ice cubes or ice water it should do the trick
These work on the principle of evaporating water to have a slight cooling effect. As a side effect the air humidity increases which gives the perception that it’s getting hotter. Net effect is almost zero except in very dry climates.
The device Ali sells is really a tiny miniature version of a real cooler. So it will probably have no effect at all.
My friend has told me about how he has trouble getting to sleep at night simply because his room gets really hot. (It's been over 106 degrees F here in Cali recently.) He already has a fan but he says this doesn't help much. I've been searching, but I'm not sure what else I could get him other than those swamp coolers I've been seeing lately. Any replies at all are appreciated, thanks!
i really can’t seem to find anything for 40 bucks other than some as seen on tv thing so i don’t entirely trust it (it’s called an “arctic air” tho if you’re curious). I think it might be better to hand your friend 40 bucks and tell them to put it towards a good air conditioner personally but maybe someone else can vouch for the arctic air or has a better idea
Yes. I bought one of these arctic air things and have been in the heat waves here in Cali. They don’t work when it’s that hot. Probably ok if it’s in the 80s. I caved and got an actual AC and it’s changed my life. I agree with your suggestion, OP could give their friend $40 towards a proper ac
A ceiling fan vs a regular fan was game changing for us.
Get a bedjet! They're a little pricey depending on your budget but theyre super awesome. We have two, one for each side of our bed.
Maybe look for a used window unit ac? New they're about $130 for the small ones here (KY) but you can probably pick one up on Craigslist or fb marketplace or whatever a lot cheaper if you don't care to clean it.
I think your best bet is a diy project of ducting the fan air thru a cheap cooler with ice in it.
Iss garmi mein sone ke liye kya lena chaiye fan/cooler and at what price
Cooler lele chotu sa, ya toh orion ka accha koi fan. Cooler is preferred, but wahii pani bharne hote hai regular interval pe.
Zyada litre wala lega toh bhadna bhi nai hoga regular. Bada cooler is better imo.
Ho skta hai..maine use ni kia
Dermi cool lagake hilale aur soja
Must try
install AC
If you need a fan, you can take mine, I am about to graduate
Nanga soja.
Kiske sath🤔
username checks out lol
Ye puchra hai toh bandi toh hogi nahi. Toh roomate hi sahi tere liye.

I live in a 1-br apartment, older building so theres no AC — it gets hot here in California so when I get back from work, my apartment is way more humid inside then outside!!
Looking for a great cooling fan, somewhat nice looking — and Ive done a lot of research on Dyson but cant bring myself to paying $400-$600!! Theyre really asking for an arm and a leg for that
Vornados are awesome af.
Hard disagree. I want to like their fans but they just don’t move as much air as cheaper alternatives. Not to mention I’ve had to warranty the one from my bedroom already but the $10 fan from home-depot just keeps running and I rarely even turn it off.
Amazon basics makes a very good vornado alike for like half the price too!! I use mine in California for my bedroom 10/10 would recommend :)
Might need to be more specific. Walmart/hardware stores/etc will have nice looking fans that put out a ton of air. Impeller fans like Dyson blade less are more common these days.
Personally I've found that I prefer old bulletproof vintage fans from yard sales and stuff. They put out a ton of air and look great.
If you look at new fans, look for the cubic feet per minute (CFM) number. The higher it is, the more air it blows.
Thank you for this! This was helpful, i didnt think about info on the cfm number.
Cooling fan thats not crazy loud on level 3, like the old school gym ones. I will look into walmart!
Also worth noting the larger the fan blades are, the quieter it will be.
Unfortunately I don't have any amazing recommendations, but definitely don't go for the Dyson. While they do look cool and generally are well built enough to last a while, the amount of air they move for their size and noise level really is just quite pathetic. This video has some interesting tests on their efficiency: https://youtu.be/dS0oFmzU06g
Buy a window AC? This way you can even keep it after you change rent
This is probably what I would do. A window ac unit and another big fan to circulate the air.
1 bedroom, no fan should be needed, sounds like a small living space. That window AC should be good enough.
Do NOT get portable AC's they are terrible at cooling and electricity efficiency.
Also don't buy Dyson or expensive brands if you rent you're most likely not rich so... Buy cheap stuff with good reviews on the net.
best air cooler
Key Considerations for Choosing the Best Air Cooler:
Cooling Capacity: Look for the cooler’s CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) rating. A higher CFM indicates better airflow and cooling efficiency. For small rooms, aim for 1,000-2,000 CFM; for larger spaces, consider 2,000-4,000 CFM.
Water Tank Size: A larger water tank means longer cooling times without needing to refill. Tanks of 5-10 gallons are common and can provide several hours of cooling.
Energy Efficiency: Check the power consumption (watts) and look for models with energy-saving features. Evaporative coolers are generally more energy-efficient than traditional air conditioning units.
Portability: If you need to move the cooler between rooms, consider a model with wheels and a lightweight design for easy transport.
Humidity Levels: Air coolers work best in dry climates. If you live in a humid area, a traditional air conditioner may be more effective.
Noise Level: Look for models with lower decibel ratings (below 60 dB) for quieter operation, especially if you plan to use it in a bedroom or office.
Recommendations:
Choosing the right air cooler depends on your specific needs, such as room size, climate, and portability requirements.
