What Redditors are Saying

Best Apps for Learning Algebra

Khan Academy

Khan Academy is frequently recommended as a top choice for learning algebra and other math subjects. It's a free resource that provides comprehensive video tutorials covering all areas of pre-college mathematics, making it an excellent starting point for anyone looking to refresh or learn new concepts [2:1], [3:2], [5:4]. The platform's app is also available for mobile devices, allowing users to study on the go [3:2].

Brilliant

http://Brilliant.org is another highly recommended app, particularly for those willing to pay for a more interactive learning experience. It offers courses in algebra and other mathematical subjects through problem-solving and interactive lessons. However, some users find it quite challenging, potentially more suited for advanced learners or those looking for a rigorous challenge [1:1], [2:1].

Symbolab and Photomath

For step-by-step solutions and practice, Symbolab and Photomath are popular choices. Symbolab allows users to input problems and receive detailed explanations, which can be very helpful for understanding algebraic processes [3:3], [3:4]. Photomath uses your phone's camera to scan math problems and provides step-by-step solutions, although it may not cover every type of algebraic problem [3:3].

Mathway and Brainly

Mathway is praised for its ability to solve algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus problems, offering step-by-step solutions in its paid version [4:1], [4:3]. Brainly is another option where users can ask questions and get answers from the community, though it has restrictions on the number of problems you can view without a subscription [4:2].

Additional Resources

Other resources include iCalc, which is noted for helping with algebra problems [3:1], and Math by Vivit, a developing website offering practice problems and interactive graphs [5:1]. These platforms provide additional tools and exercises to enhance algebra learning, catering to different learning styles and needs.

Pretty much what the title says. Is there a good mobile app for practicing math skills on the go?

Not algebra or calculus, but for Geometry you can try Euclidea. There are two similar apps called Pythagorea and Pythagorea60.

Eh, Euclidea is a fun game, but it's not remotely close to training.

I knew I wasn't particularly talented at math, but I didn't expect Brilliant to destroy me so completely when I tried it out last year. Pretty demoralizing. I now think of it as a training app for math olympians rather than ordinary people.

Best App/Online Program for Algebra?

Posted by ActiJosh · in r/learnmath · 3 years ago

I decided to recently go back to school to obtain another degree, and the math requirement caught me by total surprise. I can take a placement test, which I felt confident in doing. Today, after looking at the study guide and test question sample PDF, I have never felt more lost. Outside of grabbing an Algebra for Dummies book (which I will actually be doing), is there an app or online tutor option that you have experience in and would recommend to someone that feels totally lost?

I am so far removed from undergrad that I do not even remember this stuff anymore. Any help is appreciated!

Just in case you haven't heard of it, Khan Academy has an outstanding series of videos, available for free, in all areas of pre-college mathematics. If you haven't tried them yet, that's one of the first places to go. If Khan doesn't match your learning style, then searching for "learn Algebra 1 online" will probably turn up a million other options.

If you are ready to pay actual money, I have heard good things about Brilliant.org. If you go there they have a free teaser (registration required).

Apps for College Algebra?

Posted by [deleted] · in r/learnmath · 6 years ago

Good morning Mathematicians,

What are some good iPhone Apps to learn everything college algebra? I also want to learn how to differentiate so that I know when I should use certain formulas since that also tends to confuse me.

I want to study before the semester starts so I have a head start since I have a lot of classes coming up and suck at math. Just assume I know enough to pass high school, and not enough to pass in college.

Thank you in advanced.

Khan academy has an app you can download. And like what’s said before symbolab is great.

I used Symbolab and Wolfram Alpha a lot in college. There is an app called Photomath that is said to be very good and allows you to take pictures of math problems and receive step-by-step solutions, but I personally have never used it.

I love using Symbolab also. Very easy to input problems and the step by step is pretty nice.

i’ve never paid for it, but i’ve known people who paid for a mathway subscription for this reason. i use mathway to get a vague idea of what to do and to check my answers, but it only shows step-by-step in it’s paid version. similarly with brainly, except i got access to a paid account in high school and have been using it since for the explanations it gives.

1 upvotes on reddit
FunnyCandidate8725 · 8 months ago

of course! the unpaid versions are still decent but might not give you an explanation. brainly has a better shot of explaining it but it has restrictions on (i think) how many problems you can view a day or something like that.

Mathway is amazing for algebra, pre-calc and calc 1 just make sure you then solve the problems without any help otherwise you won’t learn.

Algebra study websites

Posted by Material-Story6257 · in r/learnmath · 21 days ago

I am a freshman in high school interested in algebra, currently taking algebra 1, and I am looking for online websites I can use to study it more.

Although, the websites I have discovered all have highly limited features to the app and require a subscription to gain access to the full version.

I was wondering if anyone knows about a website I can use without having to pay?

As mentioned, Khan Academy as well as other websites in the sidebar might be a good fit for you.

If you don’t mind trying something else I’m developing a free math website called Math by Vivit.

It has practice problems and I use desmos for interactive graphs and images. I currently have some issues with new accounts but you can browse it without one

Online learning: any suggested apps that can help (re) learn college algebra and up? I don’t mind paying

Posted by Albatross-soup · in r/Algebra · 2 years ago

As the title says, but with the added: I suck at math. My brain switches off because I don’t have the basics down and everything that is built on top of them is a mystery to me.

Ideally I would like to take a test to see where I am weak/ what level of math I understand, and have a curated math program that can teach me from there on up.

Thanks I’m advance!

What are the best math apps for learning algebra?

Hey. I'm taking a professional course/ certificate for work that requires me to spruce up on math basics. It's crazy how I recall almost nothing from my math classes. Are there any resources or apps that could help me hit the ground running on getting a refresher? Thank you so much.

Khan Academy is the go-to recommendation. It's hard to beat, assuming one has the time to work through the courses. If you're looking for more targeted refreshers and prefer reading over watching videos, then check out the Maths Is Fun website (not an app, I know...). Don't let the look of the site fool you: the content is quite good. It might not be my top suggestion for someone learning something for the very first time, but for refreshing your math skills, it can be a very good resource.

App resources for high school algebra!!

Posted by Ambitious_Funny_9241 · in r/math · 8 months ago

Hello! I’m doing well in my math program, but I’m the kind of person who needs regular review to retain what I’ve learned. Without constant practice, I forget things easily and make a lot of mistakes because I can’t recall them properly. I’m looking for an app to help me refresh my memory, become more confident solving problems, and improve my speed. it usually takes me a while to work through questions😭 i want to be able to do it a lot faster and remember stuff off the top of my head instead of counting on my hands.

I really really liked Brilliant, it was exactly what i wanted, but I can’t afford paid apps right now. my mom has cancer, and we really don’t have any extra money. I’ve been recommended Khan Academy, but I don’t need lessons or tutorials since I already have plenty of math books and programs. What I need are practice problems to solve. I used to print out pages of practice problems but that’s really hard for me to follow up with. i need to search everywhere for a non blurry picture and then see if it’s paid blocked and then finally i’d be able to do it.

All the apps I’ve found are either way too easy and only cover up to 10th-grade material, or they’re paid. Any help or recommendations would be super awesome!! Thank you sm

Hey! First off, I really admire how committed you are to improving in math—it’s not easy to stay motivated, especially with so many challenges. I totally understand how hard it can be to keep everything fresh and improve speed without feeling overwhelmed.

Something that’s helped me a lot is focusing on active practice rather than just reviewing. For example, working through problems step-by-step and reflecting on mistakes has made concepts stick better for me. Also, finding ways to turn notes or materials into something interactive—like writing down key steps or quizzing yourself—can make studying feel less repetitive. I use both Quizlet and KnoWhiz at the current stage, Quizlet lets you create flashcards on your own, while KnoWhiz allows you to upload your materials to generate specific flashcards with examples that help you understand concepts better. You can also find courses by searching on it. I don’t mean to promote it, but since you mentioned concerns about fees, I can share a promotion code with you to help with your math learning. I’m confident it has materials suited to your level :) It’s totally free because we really appreciate your feedback!

Lastly, I sincerely hope your mom feels better soon. And please, try not to put too much pressure on yourself—you’re already doing amazing! The effort you’re putting into your studies is truly impressive.

Hope this helps :)
