For my next watch I’ve been considering a blue dial. I find them classic and versatile but fun and sporty. I find a lot of the blue dials that I immediately think of haven’t totally wowed me and I want to make sure I’m thorough.

So far contenders are the Aqua Terra and Planet Ocean from Omega (smaller variants of each), the Oyster Perpetual and Datejust (though I already have a silver dial) from Rolex, and the BB58 and Pelagos from Tudor. The Cartier Santos is also a contender but I really love both the classic medium Santos and the Santos-Dumont, so idk if I want to take up my Santos slot with the larger blue variant.

I’m certain there are many other good blue dial watches that I’m not considering, would love to hear thoughts!

Blue dials are one of the most recognized colors when it comes to watches now even more than shades like gray. Besides white & black, blue seems to be one of the most popular dial colors even if nowadays blue dials have died down in terms of trends as it seems green is currently in trend with Red seeming to pick up steam as the next big dial color.

Anyways what I wanted to talk about is the best blue dials & in my opinion I think the blue overseas probably has the best blue dial in the industry, there’s a certain charm & look to it what the amazing amount of depth this dial has that’s almost incomparable. I say “almost” because my honorable mention, the Chronometer blu by FP Journe is also one of the best blue dials in the business. Which makes a lot more sense when you remember that both the Overseas & Chronmeter blu share the same dial maker.

Some more honorable mentions, the Credor eichi II in the blue dial variant instead of white, the two tone submariner bluesy, the omega seamaster smp300 with the ceramic dial, and the saxonia blue copper thin aventurine dial.

Looking to get a blue dial watch, a we only have space to bring one watch and a few straps

Requirements: Must be able to work with jeans and tees to suits, day to night without looking out of place, design and versitility is the most important factor. No unnecessary complications (i.e: chronographs, moon phases, tourbillions etc.) Date is fine but no day/date. Within ±10 seconds a day and scratch resistant glass preferably saphire. I want a watch that I have the confidence that if it was in a sauna that I wouldn't have to worry about it (not that I'm planning to) Also normally to be part of a 5 watch collection so a decent power reserve is prefered quartz is acceptable. Doesn't have to be high end. current front runners in the mock up are omega AT 150m, Tudor bb58, and JLC Polaris but I could be persuaded by Tissot gentleman, Seiko prospex, Casio Oceanus t200 etc. Looking for both the best regardless of price and the best bang for buck.

I just recently got my Santos de Cartier with the white dial and I’m definitely still ik the honeymoon stage. But I find myself craving for color as I expand my collection.

I kinda like the blue dial of the Santos as well but I think having the same watch with just different colors is weird.

I’m thinking an AT or an IWC would scratch the itch. What do you guys think?
