TL;DR
Owala
Owala water bottles are highly recommended for their innovative design that combines a spout and straw in one lid. Users appreciate the ability to cover the straw, preventing exposure to dirt and germs [5:3]. The bottle is well-insulated, easy to clean, and fits comfortably in car cup holders
[5:8]. Many users have praised its durability and leak-proof nature, making it a favorite among families
[5:9].
Hydro Flask
Hydro Flask is another popular brand mentioned frequently across discussions. It offers a variety of lid options, including straw lids, and is known for excellent insulation and durability [1:1]
[5:4]. The straw can be covered to keep it clean, and the bottles come with handles for easy carrying
[5:2]. Hydro Flask also provides warranties on their products, which adds an extra layer of assurance for buyers
[5:12].
Simple Modern
Simple Modern bottles are favored for their versatility, particularly because they offer shared lids that fit multiple bottle types [5:1]. This feature allows users to customize their drinking experience according to preference, whether using a straw or a different lid type.
Klean Kanteen
Klean Kanteen offers straw-capped bottles with silicone straws, which are replaceable if needed [4:1]. While some users love their Klean Kanteen for its durability
[3:11], others have found issues with certain designs, such as rounded bottoms that tip easily
[3:6].
Stanley
Stanley bottles are appreciated for their robust design and effective insulation, keeping drinks cold all day [5:6]. They fit well in car cup holders and are noted for being dishwasher safe
[5:7]. However, some users prefer other brands due to specific features like straw coverage
[5:2].
When choosing a water bottle with a straw lid, consider factors such as ease of cleaning, insulation capabilities, and personal preferences regarding straw design and bottle size.
I could really use a water bottle that is made of metal, isn't too heavy, doesn't leak, can be put into a backpack, has a removable straw, keeps water cold, and isn't a Stanley.
Any recommendations?
Check etsy. I have the greatest water bottle. It's 30 ounces, keeps beverages cold for 24 hours, has a metal straw, etc. There are a ton of pick from and a lot of them have a fandom associated with them. Mine is Schitt's Creek. But also many of them are just a plain color of have other designs on them.
See if you can find an old Army canteen. You might be able to find an old aluminum one at a thrift shop or a plastic one at an Army Navy surplus store, e bay, or someplace like that. Try to find one with the canvas cover and a metal cup.
I have a hydration bladder
Definitely Yeti
Love my “hydro flask”. I have 2 different sizes and it’s great that I can change between coffee or straw lid
Water bottle requirements
I’m on the hunt for the perfect water bottle. Preferably, I would like one that does not have a plastic straw that touches the water. I would like one that fits in the car cupholder (I have a RAV4). I’m having the most trouble finding a 40 ounce water bottle that is not painted. I don’t want any powder coating finishes or any colors on the body of the bottle. I heard good things about Klean Kanteen brand, but I prefer a straw and one that is 40 ounces. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
Thank you so much!!
Check out the brand Swell.
I found this. It is painted and the straw is all metal- this would hurt my teeth.
So I'm wanting to purchase a new water bottle. I always would buy cheap ones say like Hydrapeak ones from like TJ Maxx or Ross.
However I'm needing a very good water bottle that will keep water cold (40oz or higher) and that it won't have these little plastic thingies that most water bottles have on the inside. The reason being it's so annoying to clean/hand wash them and they mold at times (though I do my best to wash my bottle everyday). But the other issue is I just struggle to remove the plastic/silicone and then put it back on.
My other thing is I hate straws. So a Stanley is an absolute no. (Also not a fan of the handle).
So any suggestions for a good 40 oz (or higher) bottle that's easy to clean and keeps water cold?
I personally love my Owala. It has a straw on the inside, but it’s not like a Stanley straw. You can sip using the mouth piece and the straw or just drink out of it like a water bottle with no straw. The silicone pieces on the top are easily removable for cleaning.
I keep seeing that, thank you for the recommendation! I wasn't sure if it could be without the straw or not and if the silicone was hard to remove! Do you have the freesip or freeswip sway? (Trying to learn which one is which since I noticed they have different ones)
We have a couple FreeSips - Note there are two pieces of silicone in the lid. There's the molded insert that seals the mouthpiece, which is very easy to pop out, can just pinch and pull the tab on one end. There's also the circular o-ring type gasket that seals the screw top, which is trickier to get out just because it's down in a groove. I use a blunt (so it doesn't damage the silicone) dental pick to hook around under it, but you can get it with a toothpick or similar. That o-ring doesn't get gross as fast since your mouth isn't on it, though, so I only have to pull it out every few months. Less often if you're just putting water in thebottle, more often if you're putting things like coffee or soda.
The Spin looks like the o-ring is more external so might be easier to pull off, can't tell about the mouthpiece deal.
I also do not like straws but love my owalla. I've had mine for 3 years. I've replaced the lid a couple times (kids under 10) but its my favorite water bottle
I have the freesip, but the top on the freesip sway is really similar! The silicone isn’t hard to remove once you know how to do it. You just have to be able to pry it off. I usually stick a floss pick underneath it and it pops right off. You could probably just do it with your nails, but I get mine done and don’t want to mess them up lol
Obsessed with my Owala. It's the best water bottle I've ever owned.
Klean kanteen is great
never heard klean kanteen mentioned anywhere before. but I happened to receive one as a gift aboot 10 years ago??? The one I have is 16 oz. and since it is smaller, I don't use it much. It's def good long lasting quality. Very thick plastic handle
What I have been going with for the past few years as daily drivers for the summer months is a couple of generic insulated bottles. Pretty sure I got them from walmart on clearance. They are quite sturdy oddly enough. I'm not quite sure what may end them. I just checked the one, too. I filled it up with ice and water 14 hours ago. Had most of it, and there's a 1/3 left. And there's still a large chunk of ice in water. And it spent 8 hours in a 100 F factory. It looks very similar to the klean kanteen bottles.
Honestly, I hate my klean kanteen. The bottom is kinda rounded, so if you bump it - it tips over easily. The “normal” lid on it has an air relief hole. The lid of this water bottle is always dripping all over the dang place. I’d probably like it more with the screw-off cap, but I hate unscrewing a cap then holding it while I drink water. Just bugs me
It is one of very few non-insulated steel water bottles out there, so I wish i liked it. But I just don’t. So I got a 25 oz camelback chute recently and like it much more. I anticipate having this water bottle forever, and using the klean kanteen as a backup / extra bottle when needed
Yes, I know I’m picky - but I work in design and hate when simple things are wrong, like having a rounded bottom on something that needs to stand up
+1 for Kleen Kanteen. Had mine since 2011 and it's still chugging along (pun intended).
Hi, Is that the "Camelback Chute mag stainless steel insulated water bottle?"
Thanks
The bottle is essentially the same, the differences are in the cap.
The Chute Mag (my suggestion) has cap has a magnet that keeps the cap open when you drink from it. The cap also has a small integrated rigid handle.
The Chug doesn't have magnet, so the cap could flip back down on your face, depending on how you drink from it. The cap also has a larger, swivel handle.
Lastly, the Flip Straw has an integrated, stowable straw to sip from, and has a large swivel handle like the Chug.
Hi, I keep thinking I’ve found the perfect drink bottle for me until it breaks or it has some other flaw (i.e persistent leaking). I’m looking for a drink bottle with the following:
I live going between Australia and New Zealand. So somewhere that’s easily available there is ideal. But shipping makes things easier anyway. TIA!
We bought Contigo bottles at Costco 11 years ago. One got lost and I ran one over with the car but the other 5 are still as good as the day we brought them home. Daily use although 99% of the time just for water. I also put them in the dishwasher
My gf got me into owala. It seems to be good quality and I like the color selection. It also doesn’t leak basically at all. I can get a couple drops if I lay it on its side or turn it upside down. But if I knock it over accidentally it almost never even spills a drop.
I’ve only had mine for 3 years but I am still obsessed with my Owala!
Straws give you wrinkles in your lips and above. You will look like a smoker.
You know what else isn't good for wrinkles? Dehydration
I'm a fan of the KleenKanteen straw capped bottles; https://www.kleankanteen.com/collections/hydration?cap=Straw The straw itself is silicone and while it might be a bit soft if you keep biting through it, it is also replaceable. Plus when you close it up the straw gets protected from dirt/dust.
I’ve decided I want to finally get a straw water bottle and am tempted to get a Stanley because it’s recognizable and I’m hoping easy to clean if it’s as popular as it is, but I’m open to others! Looking to buy 2 or 3 of whatever I pick so I always have a clean one at home and a clean one at work. I’m also hoping to have one that is safe/healthy - not a mold magnet, no leaching microplastics, etc.
I really like my Hydroflask
Love my hydro: two main reasons over a Stanley: the straw can be covered (I don’t like the idea of my straw being out in the open and more likely to be touched, knocked into something). I like having a handle on top, especially because I bring mine in and out of the car. I like not having to hold it upright
I've been loyal to hydroflask for over a decade. I did just get a 40oz all around travel tumbler for the center counsel of my car, since my waterbottle is too big. And it's also awesome and keeps my water ice cold. My toddler especially loves my tumbler and the silicone straw makes it safe if he attempts to walk around with it.
I also have a hydroflask for my coffee.
Highly recommend!
Hydroflask also have warranties (unless they’ve changed). I’ve had two replaced in the past because they lost their insulation.
My entire family is addicted to the Owala now. I bought one for my nephew for his birthday, and it was all down hill from there. Two adult cups and two kids cups later, I’m tempted to order another couple. The built in straw is sooo nice and being able to shut the top and lock it, makes it my best purchase yet.
Owala is the only answer here. Spout and straw (and the straw can be covered so it's not exposed to everything around you) in one, well-insulated, easy to clean.
I love my Stanley, and not because it’s popular on Instagram!
It truly keeps my drink ice cold all day. It fits nicely in my car cup holder. Most importantly, I had some carpal tunnel after pregnancy and the handle on the Stanley allows me to lift it up with two or three fingers without having to use my thumb (which I have to do with my yeti cups). My carpal tunnel was the worst in my thumb, and I seriously notice a difference when using the Stanley, as crazy as that sounds.
So yeah, I love my Stanley. I got the 30 oz and would not want larger, but I know some people swear by the bigger one.
Same here. Plus it's dishwasher safe. Now that the carpal tunnel is gone I do have the bigger one as well.
I love my Stanley for all of these reasons! My carpal tunnel has gotten better but man was it a life saver being able to grab it with my three fingers!
Owala. I am always knocking it over and it never spills. Built in sip/straw option is amazing. 32 oz fits in my Toyota 4Runner cup holders.
Does it keep cool? I do drink a lot of water so would be nice not to constantly refill.
Ditto on Simple Modern! This has been my favorite water container brand for about 5 years, and it's nice with shared lids so I have several and can pull any life type I want out and it will for sure fit
I’m looking for a good quality leakproof water bottle or insulated tumbler that I can carry in my purse.
Ideally something that’s not too heavy and bulky. I tend to carry larger handbags so I’m still open to looking at bottles that are medium to large in size.
Bonus if it has these features:
Right now I use a MiiR Flip Traveler which is good but I want to look at other options.
I love my YETI. It has all the features you list.
I have the 32oz big girl rambler in cosmic lilac (link) but all the lids are interchangeable so I could put it on my 12oz hotshot or 26oz rambler too if I wanted to use a smaller bottle for the day.
It’s insulated and keeps water cold for ages - I use it constantly through the night and it’ll still be cold in the morning.
It’s easy to drink from every angle including lying down (I got it while I was recovering from surgery so I didn’t have to keep sitting up)
It’s leakproof - I think it maybe leaked slightly in my bag once but only due to my own stupidity for not closing it properly.
They have a ton of fun colors, including colored straw caps (link)
It’s easy to clean either by hand (nice wide opening) or by dishwasher (lids are top rack safe).
It’s also very robust. I’m clumsy AF and am constantly knocking it off the side of furniture, and we have a lot of furniture with metal legs and the bottle hasn’t taken a ding at all.
I really like my Owala free sip! The function works where when you pop the lid you can sip through the straw or lift up the bottle to pour it. Insulated as well, and in terms of pricing it can range from $20 on Amazon to $25 at target! Also comes in a nice variety of colors!
My daughter got this and I agree with the suggestion. She had the hyroflask type one but she said was too bulky and weighed her bag down. We saw them in store so we got a good feel for the size/weight but she didn't like the colors so we ordered online. She loves it. I think it's a great design. I like the option to use straw or lift the bottle.
Agreeing on the free sip! It’s the best water bottle I’ve ever had. I want another, bigger one
I have several Owala free sips and love them. Several because I am lazy and hate washing them daily. I also have a bigger one for the gym.
I have an insulated Ozark Trail bottle (Walmart brand) and it’s the best I’ve had for keeping my drink cold. They come in a bunch of different lid styles. Mine has a straw top that flips up, but my husband has the same one with a lid that just screws off. Neither of us have had any issues with leaking and they keep drinks cold for about 10 hours with no trouble.
I use the tumbler and I mean I USE it. I have to make sure I hydrate a lot and this thing is with me from sun up to sun down. It has a magnetic lid to open and close, easily comes off for cleaning, and still perfectly sized for straws. They insulate like crazy too.
I've always been happy with my Hydro Flask. They have a fairly wide variety of sizes, lid styles, and colors. I like my drinks to be icy cold, and my Hydro Flask has never disappointed on that front.
Another vote for hydroflask! Mine has never leaked and a bottle left in the hot sun for hours has kept my water cold.
I have a Kleen Kanteen with a straw that gets covered. If your bag doesn’t have a designated holder, I highly recommend getting one.
I second owala!!! The sip or chug top is wonderful and I love how I can carry it by handle or lock it and throw it in a bag. A 24 or 32oz would probably work great for you!
just purchased my first owala and I looooove it. tbh not a huge fan of all the funky color combos because I would end up liking one color but hating the color on the rim or handle so I ended up going with their white and gray version. figured I could add funky stickers to it if I wanted color.
I never understood the Stanley obsession either and tbh I'm not a huge fan of the exposed straw or worrying about whether or not my water bottle will fit in my car. owala was the perfect fit for me. there's a sip or swig ( will probably fit your silicone straw), good handle to carry it, locks securely, isn't too heavy to carry.
I could use some help. I currently have a Stanley Ice Flow waterbottle. I love having a straw and the large handle is great for carrying it because I can fit my whole hand in the handle. I don't like that the straw is exposed and is hard to clean because it's not removable. I love the straw design on the Owala FreeSip because it's easy to clean and the cap covers the mouthpiece when it's closed. The handle on it is terrible though because it's too small to actually carry it with. I have been searching high and low for a waterbottle with a covered mouthpiece straw that also has a large carry handle. Anyone have any recommendations?
Owala recently released two new models. Same Freesip covered straw but different carry handles! Check them out. One is the Sway and the other is a tumbler. 😊
Thank you for the awesome recommendation! I just went and purchased the FreeSip Sway and it is exactly what I've wanted. You rock!
I've tried for many years to find a water bottle that works for me. I've bought so many that I didn't like for one reason or another. Some of them weren't as leak proof as they claimed to be, some of them were too difficult to clean, some of them were too difficult to carry around effectively, the list goes on. That was until I found HydroFlask.
I am SO happy with them! I love that they're dishwasher safe and even easy to clean by hand. I love the varying size, shape, and lid options. I wanted a 32oz bottle so I wouldn't have to refill it as often for regular daily drinking, but I hate the shape of the travel tumblers that are skinny on the bottom for cupholders and bigger up top. I also hate straws. So my 32 oz wide mouth is perfect.
That still left me with a struggle in terms of bringing it in the car and drinking it while driving/riding as a passenger. So I got this 24 oz with a straw, even though I hate straws, so that it fits in a cupholder and is easy to drink while driving. And I'm obsessed with this new beachplum purple color!
Overall I couldn't be happier with my HydroFlasks. I'm so happy I found them!
I hate straws too so I bought the narrow opening lid for the wide mouth bottle. Much each easier to drink out of while driving.
I thought about that a lot! In the end I didn't want to deal with unscrewing the cap. I could do it, but a straw just seemed easiest while driving.
Also, I forgot to add in the main post, but I'm OBSESSED with the carrying handles on the lid!! I can't tell you how much of a game changer those are!!
That's such a pretty blue. Enjoy your new bottles!
I've these exact sizes but both in green! I actually ended up getting a cup holder converter and adore it and it fits with the boot too!
Ooooh that's cool! Could you share what you got? I'm just curious to see what a cupholder converter for this would look like!
I got this one https://a.co/d/9d8elPU but ngl it looks a tad different in pictures than what I got (and I took this straight from my orders) so idk if they've updated it or the pics are just renderings. Mine doesn't have the grippy wings. It also fits the giant cups from AMC lol
Welcome to the obsession!
Has anyone found the magical unicorn of water bottles that uses a straw but does not leak when tossed around in a little kid’s backpack? We have tried a million different brands and they all leak. Would send one with an open spout but our preschool prefers the straw for less spillage when it inevitably ends up on the floor. Anyone have one that holds up? Thanks!!
My kid uses Funtainer from Thermos 12oz bottles.
Love these! And you can get replacement straws on Amazon for cheap!
I’ve been happy with the hydro flask for kids. I realize it’s kinda pricey, but so far the quality is great. Kiddo has been using it daily for play school since September (and at home on weekends) and we have yet to experience a leak.
We all use contigos. The only thing I don’t like about them is the silicone straw part is not replaceable if bitten through by a teething toddler. I was able to contact contigo and they replaced my entire water bottle as a one-time thing, because straw biting is not covered in their warranty.
The camelbak ones are replaceable. You can buy them in a pack of 4 on their website.
We looked at those but the bite to suck encourages an unnatural suck, which is bad for their teeth. I was so tempted though when he bit through his second silicone mouthpiece on the contigo water bottles. Infuriating.
We use the yeti, it’s a spill proof flip spout, and it’s a yeti so it keeps tea warm and apple juice cold buuuut it’s super heavy, it took our kid dropping it on her foot once before realizing that. But it gets washed daily and used and abused at the park, and has held up really well for over a year and I see a lot of other toddlers that have different color variations here in hot Florida where ice at the park is a game changer 😅
We also use the yeti kids. It's great
Came to say this! Yeti flip top for the win.
There is one at Costco right now that seems to be pretty darn spill proof. It's Contigo brand.
Anyone else have a hard time with the straws on these cups? I was so excited to try them but my 3 year old has difficulty sucking water through the straw, like a lot of force is needed.
As a former Floridian who was fully invested in Tervis as Floridians are, definitely make the switch. It’s miles better.
I could use some help. I currently have a Stanley Ice Flow waterbottle. I love having a straw and the large handle is great for carrying it because I can fit my whole hand in the handle. I don't like that the straw is exposed and is hard to clean because it's not removable. I also have the Owala FreeSip and I love the straw design on it because it's easy to clean and the cap covers the mouthpiece when it's closed. The handle on it is terrible though because it's too small to actually carry it with. I have been searching high and low for a waterbottle with a covered mouthpiece straw that also has a large carry handle. Anyone have any recommendations?
You all literally just changed my life. I went to Target immediately and purchased the FreeSip Sway. This is what I've wanted for literally years. Amazing!
Congratulations to you
Thank you! This is a pretty big day for me
I feel the same way about the Sway. It’s my first and only Owala and I’m glad I got this model. Congrats and welcome to the club!
Freesip tumbler?? I just got one and am in loooove
This isn't a bad option and I thought about it in the past! However I like the top carry handle versus the side handle
Have you checked out the new Sway? It has the large handle, the covered mouthpiece, and fits cup holders.
The FreeSip sway is basically Owala's answer to the Ice Flow, so if you like that one I think the Sway will be your bottle 🥰
Behold, the FreeSip Sway. As the others have mentioned, I think it's definitely what you're looking for. This is a 30 oz, but it also comes in 40 oz. I love it!
best brand of water bottles with straw lids
Key Considerations for Choosing Water Bottles with Straw Lids:
Material: Look for BPA-free plastic, stainless steel, or glass. Stainless steel is durable and keeps drinks cold, while plastic is lightweight and often more affordable.
Insulation: If you want to keep beverages cold or hot, consider insulated bottles. Double-wall vacuum insulation is ideal for maintaining temperature.
Straw Design: Ensure the straw is easy to clean and has a good flow rate. Some bottles have removable straws or built-in cleaning brushes.
Leak-Proof: Check for leak-proof designs, especially if you plan to carry the bottle in a bag. A secure lid is essential.
Capacity: Choose a size that fits your hydration needs—common sizes range from 16 oz to 32 oz or more.
Ease of Cleaning: Look for bottles that are dishwasher safe or have wide openings for easy cleaning.
Top Brands to Consider:
Hydro Flask: Known for their insulated stainless steel bottles, they offer excellent temperature retention and durability. Their straw lids are also well-designed for easy sipping.
CamelBak: Offers a variety of water bottles with straw lids, known for their bite valve technology, which allows for easy drinking without spills.
Contigo: Their bottles often feature a one-handed operation and are designed to be leak-proof, making them great for on-the-go use.
Nalgene: A classic choice for outdoor enthusiasts, Nalgene bottles are made from durable plastic and are easy to clean, although they may not have insulation.
Recommendation: If you're looking for a balance of durability, insulation, and ease of use, the Hydro Flask with a straw lid is highly recommended. It keeps drinks cold for hours, is made from high-quality stainless steel, and has a wide mouth for easy filling and cleaning. For a more budget-friendly option, consider the Contigo Autoseal Water Bottle, which is leak-proof and easy to use with one hand.
