What Redditors are Saying

Best Budget Loadouts for Tarkov

TL;DR

  • Weapons: SKS, Mosin, MP-153, Vepr, AKM
  • Ammo: PS 7.62, Flechette, Buckshot
  • Armor: Level 3 or 4 armor, PACA
  • Other Gear: Cheap helmets and headsets

Budget Weapons

For budget weapons, the SKS and Mosin are frequently recommended due to their cost-effectiveness and availability from Prapor [1:2]. The SKS can be upgraded with sights for better accuracy. The MP-153 shotgun is another popular choice, especially when paired with buckshot or flechette ammo [1:5][3:1]. The Vepr or AKM with PS 7.62 ammo is also a solid option for those looking for an automatic weapon [1:1].

Ammunition Choices

The choice of ammunition is crucial in Tarkov. For shotguns, flechette ammo is highly effective but may require higher-level traders like Jaeger LL3 [1:6]. In its absence, 8.5mm buckshot or crafted magnum buckshot can be good alternatives [2:2]. For rifles, PS ammo is a reliable choice for budget loadouts, providing decent penetration [2:1].

Armor and Gear

When it comes to armor, level 3 or 4 options provide a good balance between protection and cost [1:3]. The PACA armor is often mentioned as a budget-friendly piece that insures well and repairs efficiently [3:6]. For helmets, options like the Kiver helmet with face shield or the Ratnik helmet (via barter) offer decent protection without breaking the bank [2:2][3:4]. Headsets are invaluable for situational awareness and should be included when possible [5:6].

Loadout Strategies

Players often recommend "rat runs" or scavenging strategies to maximize loot while minimizing risk [4:1]. This involves entering raids with minimal gear and extracting quickly with valuable items. Another strategy is to start with minimal equipment, such as a double-barrel shotgun, and upgrade by looting defeated enemies [5:3]. Investing in a good scope and silencer can enhance your loadout's effectiveness, particularly for sniping [4:2].

Adaptation to Game Progression

As the game progresses through wipes, players adjust their budget loadouts based on available resources and trader levels. Early wipe strategies focus on basic gear and weapons, while later stages allow for more customization and investment in higher-tier equipment [5:1]. It's important to adapt your loadout to your current goals and financial situation within the game.

Getting back into the game, as a friend recently purchased it. Wondering what the best low-tier load-outs look like. Just looking to get reacquainted with the game with some friends before the wipe.

Guns: SKS and Mosin are my go to (both from Prapor)- 7.62x54R LPS ammo for Mosin and 7.62x39 Ammo for SKS- You can unlock Jaeger and get access to the OP-SKS Which allows you to mount a sight on the SKS. You can buy the Cobra sight or the PSO scope from prapor as sight options- You can also remove the rear sight on the SKS and you'll have a way better sight picture with about the same accuracy- I would insure all your weapons cause they will probably always come back and you can drop you mosin / SKS for other peoples guns- If you don't know when you insure items they come back in to you in your mail if no one from the raid leaves with the item. This takes about 24-36 hours to return to you. You can commit insurance "Fraud" Where you throw your own insured items on the ground for other items so you leave the raid with a bunch of new items but the old ones come back tomorrow in insurance, effectively doubling your loot.

Amor: Your only real option early on is PACA from Ragman. I recommend wearing one to not get 1 shot by scavs, drop it for any scav armor higher than level 2.
- When you hit level 15 upgrade to using the 6B3TM-01 or MMAC armored rigs

Helmet: Green SSH from Ragman I recommend also insuring this as you can drop it for literally any helmet and just accumulate an insurance full of SSH helmets.

Headphones: Literally preference but I like the m32's from level 1 skier

Another tip, You can stack backpacks inside backpacks so make sure youre grabbing all the scav bags / day packs when you see them.

Once you Hit level 15 the two best budget guns are the RFB with M80 and the UMP with MATCH FMJ its gotta be match. They are both super easy to mod I just recommend suppressing your UMP its worth it. If you don't know there is a website that shows all the different ammo types and their pen values you can find here . There is also a gun builder and ammo tierlist on that website as well to make things easier.

Hope that helps, If you are looking to progress quickly to get into the swing of things again there are tons of guides and series on youtube about it. Even ones that show all the items you need for quests. This can also be found on the wiki here

Vs scavs some cheap level 3 or 4 armor, depending on how much you get hit by them. Any cheap helmet that can be paired with headphones will do. For weapon it depends on your favorite distance, but adar, 5.45 aks or some op sks will do. The ammunition is more important that the gun. I always use whatever the traders have plus ammunition from flee market.

Against players you need more serious stuff. Especially ammunition that can penetrate at least lvl 4 armor, the more the better. The same is true for your armor, at least lvl 4, the more the better.

Flechette is Jaeger LL3, which is a ways off for a noob. 12/70 buck is pretty good, and once you get your workshop up and running, matches + blue gunpowder can craft magnum buckshot which is very good ammo.

Gun including mods (if possible), rig, armour, helmet. Wanting to go back to basic because I have the worst habit of relying on armor too much so I played too recklessly.

Mp-153 shotgun, either just chuck a 6 round mag on it or look up deadly slobs "fraud" shotgun.

8.5mm buckshot.

Scav/berkut backpack.

Zhuk-3 press armor.

Triton rig.

Oh, and the Kiver helmet/face shield(feel these are necessary with how ridiculous scavs have been lately)

Molot + any sight, 3 mags of AP bullets - spare bullets in pouch, Hemostat and IFAK in pouch, Balaclava on the face and you're ready to go Woods - that's something I'd wear if super broken.

Or SKS + PS ammo instead of Molot

More money - WT rig (because of 2x2 slot) or Triton + 6B23-1 armor + Ratnik

as a gun - Saiga 12g with AP bullets, AK (for 7.62) slightly modded (sight, front grip, buttpad), ADAR (now there is no barter so idk if it's worth it)

Best budget loadout?

I don't know if it's under 90k. But my loadout for the foreseeable future is as follow: paca, dick helmet, sks, some PS Ammo, some sort of headphones.

Depending on what I'm doing I use different BP and rig. For doing tasks a small backpack and no rig. For loot runs the biggest rig I can get my hands on and an attack2 BP.

I just reached lvl 10 so finally starting loot runs with a lot of space.

Hey fam, you can get the ratnik helmet for cheaper than the dick helmet through the bleach barter and you get the benefit of 10% less ergo penalty (-13% for dh, -3% for ratnik) and the helmet has the extra ear coverage to give ricochet chance to side of head shots

Mp-153 with 8.5 buck is my go to budget gun. Ap-20s if you want more pen/ distance.

Pp-19 is a great budget smg and can basically be converted to a wannabe aks. See what you have at your disposal with your vendors.

Armor and gear is subjective to what you want/ need for that type of run. Typically I invest more in armor and less in the helmet.

Hey guys, Can you share your budget loadout sets under 200k or 150k? I mostly use gear tickets, but I die often. Due to poor gear and when I use high-level items, I end up going broke. I’m losing money faster than I can loot!

It would be really helpful if you could share your loadout setups. Thanks in advance!

Learn to snipe and rat with SR or DMR. Base gun with a scope around 4x is usually good enough and costs about 100k. Blue bp, chest rig, and meds another 50k, the rest is spent on the best ammo you can afford. The armor you can pick up in matches. If SR ain’t your thing, you can build a cheap smg like Bizon with t3 ap rounds for pretty cheap.

First thing to know is if you are playing easy or normal.

Matchmaking seems to favor purting together similarly kitted players, so if ticket/naked you'll encounter other low gear players more and vice versa. So going easy fully kitted is most likely shooting yourself in the foot for making money becouse most geared plawers in easy are super sweaty.

Other than that remember to equip the 4x4 safebox ( obtained throw season pass freebies) and stinger saves a lot in meds and the rig space for them.

For any other advice more info woud be needed, like how are you dyng and your specific goals/playstile in a match.

1 upvotes on reddit
themothwillburn · 4 months ago

I would recommend solo loot runs with budget kits. Sinister, chap and other YouTube content creators have loot run guides.

They normally suggest doing it on Normal with a big backpack and no armour etc but even if you do it on Easy with green tickets you can get anything between 400k-1mil

3 upvotes on reddit
hemankpie07 · OP · 4 months ago

Thank you and which level backpack would you recommend for a newbie We can’t edit gear in tickets so they are useless anyway.

If you are going super budget then the camping bag GTI is probably the ideal one as it's horizontal (can fit a gun and also if it's horizontal it takes less scrolling to get to it

But normally the minimum I would take would be the GA field GTi because you can fit 2 guns or something square/3x4

Always try to exchange it from the gear department as it'll cost less than buy it come auction but you can only get 2 every seven hours (if you plan it right you can exchange at night, wake up in the morning, exchange again, then you have four for the evening when you play), same with chest rig, exchange it and it's cheaper

1 upvotes on reddit
nukynator · 4 months ago

There’s a pretty significant price hike between blue backpacks and purple ones. You be the judge to decide if you’re extracting often enough to justify paying for the purple bags

It sounds like you should spend the $10 on a battlepass, which provides a mountain of ammo, armour, heals, guns, and the bigger safe.

Otherwise I'd use blue stuff. I don't bother with green. I've also had a fun time with shotguns and blue slugs for headshots so try that out. Somehow I've survived like 8 rounds in a row with the new double barrel shottie. Adding a suppressor and removing the stock has been really fun.

2 upvotes on reddit
nukynator · 4 months ago

to add on to that, using green/white ammo to deal with bots is a good way to save money. leave the blue ammo in your box until you know a real player is nearby

1 upvotes on reddit
PinoyChocolate_3435 · 4 months ago
  1. Do rat runs. Go in as stinger with 2 surgical kits.
  2. Using recruit gear tickets, avoid clash and do rat run exit as early as possible. Then on next round, install a silencer.
  3. Always bring 9*19 blue ammo. Guns you can scavenge from bots.backpack the 20 slot one or 21.
  4. Rinse repeat usually it would net 150-300 average.
  5. If you find broken armor or helmet. Swap it out and exfil asap. You can repair it.
  6. Scope is essential. The 2.5 battle scope on an aks74 with silencer is my most go to.
  7. Get a good headset. Sound gives spatial awareness which helps in 75% of engagement. If on a lose streak simply log out. My KD is shit but I still enjoy the game with friends.

About 250k worth of gear, which is what you can get from an average scav run.

My go-to budget stuff is Korund/Ulach/one of the guns I've built/kitted off of dead players. Korund from Prapor, Ulach from insurance/flea, and I'll bring whatever gun I've got ammo for.

At this point in the wipe, that's budget. And I didn't play for the first, like... five months.

Early wipe? No armor, headset, semi-auto shotgun.

It really depends on how far along we are in the wipe.

Early wipe: whatever I can find, usually ak with pso scope, lvl 4 armored rig, or whatever I have.

Early-Mid wipe: modded ak with silencer, pso and canted sight and foregrip. Lvl 4 armored rig.

Late wipe: whatever gear I feel like, don't really have a budget at this point.

My "budget" scales with trader levels.

Edit: For sniping I would add the Molot VPO-215 "Gornostay" To the early wipe. VPO with EKO rounds is a great combo, high damage, decent velocity, ok penetraion for early wipe. It won't penetrate anything above lvl 3, but most people don't run helmest with high armor class at early wipe.

For me, a budget loadout is around 170k.

Kirasa + Azimut works out around 70k...

Couple that with Vector 9mm and flash hider for 70k...add a few mags and three stacks of PST Gzh.

GSH + meds + PK-06 and backpack and you're at 170k exactly.

A good second favourite is Saiga 12 with AP-20 and the same Kirasa/Azimut setup, comes to 100k.

What are your favourite loadouts?

Always run the same on budget, traders only AK (at level 3 traders you can make a meta build with 50 recoil for ~120k)

  • 30 igolnik split into and topping 3 mags with BT as bottom 20. ~40k

  • SSh-68 or Ulach 22k/60k

  • Scav BP + 20 slot rig 30k

  • Korund, trade in for 4 diarys. 85k

In total 285k isch but allows you to handle any content in game including raiders and super chads easily. Most of it comes back on insurance as well

Load with 1 pistol 1 mag 1 bandage 1 smarchs

Kill scavs loot and extract

The Kit:

  • Ears: gssh 26,493
  • Rig: Bank Robber 12,546
  • Armor: none free99
  • Gun: PPSh41 40,264
  • Mags: 4 35 rounders 17,368
  • Ammo: 240 LRNPC 23,760
  • Meds: 1 bandage, 1 esmarch, 1 AI-2, (morphine in your ass for if you kill a geared pmc only) 21,804

Total: 142,235

Your goal is to kill scavs to upgrade.

Few tips:

  • Let the gun spray, it cannot jam.
  • You have an optional fancy 71 round drum if you really want to try to cheese a pmc with this loadout.
  • You can buy it with all level 1 traders but requires jaeger.
  • Shoot at their legs, you have no armor penetration.
  • Don't try this on big outdoor maps, stick to customs/reserve
  • Don't linger on maps, kill things quick, loot them and leave the raid. You do not have the meds to survive multiple fights

Feel free to add upgrades below, but remember the point of this kit is to get gear from scavs and cheese pmcs. Never every take a fair fight, you will lose.

  • Backpack: If you really want a starting backpack get the VKBO from Jaeger, yes it has 1 less slot than ragman's 2 but it is a 2x4 so it lets you take 2 of the 2x2 items instead of 1.
  • Meds:
    • Try to bring a cms/survival kit in your special slot and only use it on your legs.
    • 1 splint can save you some headache for only 7,139.
    • Analgin can also help but is more of a luxury item for this build, but I bring one every raid with my end game kits.
    • Using grizzlys out of raid is cheaper than using the post raid healing screen.
  • Throwables:
    • Don't sleep on smoke grenades for 5,075 you can loot a body in the open or block off an entrance to reposition/run away.
    • Grenades have their place, but this kit is not made to be aggressive with so they probably wont help too much unless you are using them with a tripwire and even that is niche.
  • Helmet:
    • You can add a balaclava for 4,402 if you plan to hide in some bushes to obscure that bald white head.
    • Don't bother with hats such as the boonie, bandana, etc. You might think they help camouflage you but I promise you they do not. With my settings they stand out more so if I wasn't going to see you, the hat is not going to help you and you will end up ditching it for the first semi-decent helmet the scavs have.
  • Armor: (you really want to find one from a scav if you are using this kit but...)
    • UNTAR for 2 max energies.
    • 6b23-1 emr for 1 propane.
    • Kora-Kulon for 1 raven.
    • Rouges at lighthouse have free armors you can get on your scav.
  • Clothing: I would consider this unnecessary but if you are staying in raid longer and running into player scavs...
    • USEC:
      • USEC PCU Ironsight shirt costs 40,000 and does not look like pmc gear most scavs will take a second look at this.
      • Pair this with the USEC Taclife Terrain for 25,000. Not ideal but everyone recognizes the green pants immediately, the blue will somewhat help but the holster does give you away if they notice it.
    • BEAR:
      • Best early shirt is the 'bear phoenix (green)' from the level 144 battlepass, if that is not an option, is probably the BEAR Sumer Field for 230,000. Not ideal but exposed arms are a dead give away and while we are trying to avoid green, the white helps break it up but the cost to benefit is low.
      • Same goes for pants really, BEAR Paladin at 127 battlepass, if not BEAR SPN 180,000. You are trying to avoid greens and blacks because scavs do not typically use these colors.
    • Honorable mentions:
      • If you somehow have the Khorovod achievement, use those.
      • There is a normal BEAR Phoenix... for 800,000.

The VEPR (.366 or 7.62) is a great budget kit early on. They need basically no modding and 20-round mags are more than good enough.

Noobs should be learning good trigger discipline and not spraying and praying as well, so the semi-auto nature of these guns is great for getting the hang of picking and choosing when to engage and how to be lethal when you do.

Pair that with the new Class 3 armor and a bank robber, headset if you can afford it. That’s all I’m running for a primary kit outside the odd shotgun when I go factory

The .366 vepr is not good, fully meta, rk2, and suppressed, 100 recoil. "Trigger discipline" can't save a bad gun. The 7.62 one is alright

Nobody is running that thing fully meta.

The guy asked about budget early wipe loadouts.

Vepr + bastion dust cover + reflex sight = super cheap and very effective.

Yes. 366 Eko has 30 pen and is cheap as fuck. Does wonders.

Agree. I've been running the VPO-136. Bastion dust cover and slap a sight on there with some 20 round mags of 7.62 for maybe 50-60k total.

This wipe I'm taking the approach of ignoring quests/pvp for a little bit and just stash running woods (my main map), so I already have a couple full junk boxes and a few million roubles. Sometimes playing less efficiently is more fun in the long run and less burnout

I run level 3 armors most of the time, level 4 when I find them on scavs. Usually a simple Walther/bastion or dovetail OKP 545 AK with PS works well, could get a foregrip and laser from skiier if it isn’t sold out.

I loot ammo in woods medcamp and have tons of PP, BP, BT, and BS which I now run in one mag for PMC’a (PS in the other for scavs).

Meds and food go up your butt, along with an extra stack of ammo. Level 3 helm, berkut/daypack/scavbp, GSSH, momex for drip, and you’re set.

now this is what i'm looking for. there is so many different kinds of ammo i never know what to keep. i use eft-ammo, but its still such a hassle to get to know what to keep and what is basically worthless.

Idk why it's not more popular but use the tarkov.dev ammo chart instead. Waaayy easier to visualize how ammo actually works and what's good vs bad.

Ye I fell in love with the pp 19. Single fire and it is easily controlable. Got me some raiders and 2x reshala plus guards. And several pmcs

Look at Mr moneybags over here with his MP5s he bought with USD.

Jokes aside, MP5 is a great early game go to. I use it for the first prapor quest. Blasts scavs at close range easy.

If you want a bit more spice, get the PPSH. Throw the 71 rounder on first then have some 35s as back up. You'll make enough money to buy another 71 drum if you live.

Best budget loadout

Posted by jeebusjambo · in r/EscapefromTarkov · 4 years ago

As someone who is fairly new to the game and doesn’t have a Bitcoin farm or millions of roubles, what’s the best budget loadout I can go with. I know there other posts about this out there but a lot of them appear to be from the beginning of the wipe so prices have changed. Any help would much appreciated, thank you

Best budget?

Saiga 9 with a vityaz suppressor and ap 6.3

This will discourage you from cornering people which will get you killed because semi auto. It'll make you aim for head and best of all. It's dirt cheap. Once you can slap a buttpad and reflex/dot on it. You're golden.

Think of it like a main weapon slot 30 round pistol that's cheaper to suppress with bigger mag capacity than a pistol that will also come back in insurance cause almost no one is losing a slot for it.

Low recoil for fast followups, I got kappa yesterday, I still run this gun for fun. Don't use 7n31 (Shoots high because of it's velocity) And don't try to chad around with it but if you're new to the game keep this in mind: Noise is death. If the scavs fired at you, assume players are running at you for PMC kill tasks because of the noise. The biggest thing you should consider is how much information you're giving up to other players and if you're in a firefight you already screwed up because assassination > Firefighting.

Saiga 9 suppressed and sighted/buttpadded, Potato sack armor and a 6b43 ratnik helmet, Gssh or better headphones and for god sakes at least a balaclava to cover your lightbulbesque skin color, 2 30 rounders of AP and 1 of PST(In your backpack) with 2 stacks of AP in the gamma, 1 f-1 grenade (Your retreat grenade. Toss and run), Salewa + esmarch and a morphine injector on the hotbar (Not pills they take too long to hit if someone is shooting you.) Never wear sunglasses in rain or night, they're darker than black and give you away easily.

Backpack: If you can do es lamp trade: Trizip. Beta 2 or mechanism also work. "But I'm trying to budget?" Backpacks /always/ pay for themselves in how much more you can carry. Don't ever worry about the extra cost. Having the space will always pay for itself over time even if you have 20% SR. Sell all those berkuts and small. No actual use because slots are way more important.

The class 4 armor is for stopping scav bullets, only take shots at players if you have to or you for sure can get the kill. Don't bother aiming center mass, don't bother taking fights (Run away and get into an ambush position.) If you can learn to click on heads like that, when you get an m1a in your hands you'll be farming raiders in no time.

Probably not. Depends what you think is cheap. We’re in late game for this wipe so starting up now is going to put you at a pretty big disadvantage. I’ve barely played this wipe compared to last and have around 18 mil.

The go to would be a hunter with good ammo or an ak with BP I guess if you have the flea market unlocked

1 upvotes on reddit
IIYellowJacketII · 4 years ago

Really depends on how far you are on quests. If you have no quests done VSS with 20 rounders of any ammo except SP-5 (just take whatever of SP-6, SPP, BP is cheapest) and use one of the dovetail mount red dots. Depending on what the TOZ mount costs that allows you to put on a grip, add a cheap grip too. Just keep in mind that the VSS/ Val recoil quite hard on full auto now, and have an incredibly slow muzzle velocity, so you want to get close, and just magdump a guy at shotgun range, if you're on target they will die, always. (Like really, with low recoil skill and minimal attachments you want to be within spitting range, but at that range pretty much no gun competes).

If you want more range use a Hunter with M61 or M993 (whatever is cheaper, normally M61), 10 rounders, and a PSO scope or red dot on the dovetail mount.

If you have traders unlocked (specifically Peacekeeper LL3) running an MP-7 with FMJ SX is always a good option (ideally with a suppressor, but that is quite expensive right now, and so are the magazines for the MP-7, so check what trader you need to buy them, you want at least the 30 rounders). MP-7 is good out to about mid-range, and FMJ SX has enough pen and damage to oneshot trough all of the class 4 helmets, aside from random ricochets, so if you fire it at 950 RPM at someone with low recoil there's a good chance they will just die.

An ADAR with M855A1 also does wonders, but semi auto in this game is not ideal unless you fire M61 or are far away.

For Armor just run a 6B3TM (or any of the other cheap class 4 armored rigs) and a shattered mask. At this point in the wipe people consistently run such good ammo, that anything besides class 6 only really helps you against scavs, and class 4 is sufficient for that purpose. Shattered mask is cheap, makes your face dark (harder to see) and puts a high ricochet chance and buckshot protection on the largest parts of your head hitbox, but just like with any helmet don't actually expect it to save you.

Also ALWAYS (even if you just pistol run) use a headset (which one you use is personal preference, just go and get used to the sound of 1 type).

You should focus on doing the questlines to unlock Peacekeeper quests asap then (just check the wiki, you need to do a bunch of skier quests until you get friend from the west and complete that), I believe Peacekeeper LL3 unlocks at lvl 18, and he is by far the most useful trader to have on LL3 asap, you can buy FMJ SX, AP6.3, SS190 (P90 is a pretty decent budget gun too), M855A1 and a bunch of useful attachments from him.

Alot of semi automatic carbines do work for cheap, just don't cheap out on the ammo, for cheap level 4 use the weird armored rig from ragman 2, its 50000 rubles and I get them back in insurance quite a bit, I like to run an ifak in my container and whatever other meds I like along with my keys (sicc case)

I dont use the hunter but it's know as the chad destroyer or rat stick . Akm/vpo with .366 might get you some kills but I dont think its worth it. Adar works wonders with 55a1 if you get those head taps. Some of my proudest kills when I just stated solo running was normal aks with a pso and bt. Dont run bt though. Bt sucks. If you can run bs or 7n, although those can be pricey

    • MP-153 Shotgun: Great for close quarters, especially in early raids. It’s inexpensive and can be lethal with the right ammo.
  2. Armor:

    • PACA Soft Armor: Offers decent protection at a low cost. It's lightweight and can be found easily.
    • 6B3TM-01: A budget-friendly option that provides good protection without breaking the bank.
  3. Headgear:

    • Kiver-M Helmet: Affordable and provides decent protection against low-caliber rounds.
    • Balaclava: Cheap and offers a bit of concealment without any significant cost.
  4. Backpack:

    • Bergen or Scav Backpack: Both are affordable and provide ample storage for loot without being too heavy.
  5. Medical Supplies:

    • Salewa First Aid Kit: Inexpensive and effective for healing.
    • AI-2 Medkit: A budget-friendly option for quick healing.
  6. Ammo:

    • Use budget-friendly ammo types like 7.62x39 PS or 5.45x39 BT for rifles, as they provide good damage without high costs.

Recommendations:

  • Loadout Example:
    • Weapon: AK-74N with PS ammo
    • Armor: PACA Soft Armor
    • Headgear: Kiver-M Helmet
    • Backpack: Scav Backpack
