TL;DR The Best Buy rewards program offers various benefits through memberships and credit card promotions, including anniversary rewards, purchase-based certificates, and seasonal bonus categories. However, these offers can vary significantly based on membership type and personal account status.
Anniversary Rewards
Best Buy continues to offer anniversary rewards for long-term employees, with notable amounts such as $750 for significant milestones [1:1]. These rewards are typically given as gift cards or certificates, which may be more valuable than individual prizes
[1:1]. While the exact details of these rewards can vary, they remain a part of the employee recognition program
[1:5].
Purchase-Based Rewards
For customers, Best Buy Plus offers rewards for specific purchases, such as $20 certificates for buying Nintendo games and accessories [2:1]. These rewards are generally processed within 15 days but might take slightly longer depending on return periods
[2:6]. Customers can track their progress through the Best Buy app
[2:2].
Credit Card Promotions
Best Buy credit card holders have access to various promotions, including bonus rewards points and financing options. However, customers must choose between earning rewards points or opting for interest-free financing on purchases over $300 [3:2]
[4:3]. Seasonal offers, like spending outside Best Buy for additional rewards, are also available
[4:2].
Bonus Categories and Offers
Bonus rewards categories are typically offered through Citibank, not directly by Best Buy [4:1]. These offers rotate seasonally and may include cash back or rewards points for specific spending categories
[4:2]. While some users report receiving frequent offers, others may find these promotions less consistent
[5:8].
Combining Rewards
Rewards from different programs or offers can often be combined or redeemed simultaneously, provided the criteria for each are met [5:3]. This flexibility allows customers to maximize their benefits from the rewards program
[5:7].
Overall, the Best Buy rewards program provides various incentives for both employees and customers, though the specifics can vary widely based on individual circumstances and membership levels.
I'm coming up on a milestone in a few weeks and I'm wondering if they do any rewards like they used to. I know we used to have a points program that you could buy stuff but that isn't offered anymore. Where might I look in the new systems/workday for that kind of info?
I just got $750 a few months ago for my anniversary, so I'd say yeah, that program is still around.
You can still order individual prizes, but you can't see those items until you've achieved said anniversary date.
Hint: Most of the prizes available are usually worth FAR less than if you accept the Gift Card instead.
Happy Best Buy-versary!!
What was your anniversary
$750 gotta be like 25 years unless they raised the amount cause 20 was like $650.
I got $300 in certificates for my 10 year this last November.
I got an email and option to print it out. Like one of those certificates you print out from online generic “College” course, lol
Year 5 and 10.
Lol
Has anyone with Best Buy Plus received their $20 rewards for buying Nintend0 games and accessories? I called customer service and they were not even aware of what I was talking about. The fine print says 15 days. It has been exactly 15 days.
Just wait, check the app, as long as you used your account attached to the membership you will get it.
In the app go to your account > View member dashboard > Your Offers > check progress on that offer specifically I’ll tell you if you met the amount, as long as you have any of the nods yellow, you’ll get them, just be patient
I actually just got mine today
I just received one today 🫡
It may have to wait until the day after when the standard return period ends. Or at least until close on the 15th day. It does say approximately 15 days and not exactly, so it might take just a little bit longer to receive it. You received every item 15 days ago, not just ordered, right?
I got 3 emails about the $20 certificate this morning. I need to use it before expiring in July. I think it is valid for 30 days.
So I have the Best Buy credit card and the $50 membership if that matters. I just made a purchase that I decided on monthly payments. I was just curious from experience when I got my TV I got a metric ton of points and I still did monthly payments. So I was expecting the same thing here however I don’t see any points pending. Did it change now that if you do monthly payments you don’t get any points back?
You have to choose the rewards instead of the financing. You can’t do both. So if you did financing you won’t get any points or reward certificates.
That sucks but I’m not worried about it I’m just so close to another $5 credit I was hoping to get that. I wonder why I got so much then when I got my tv.
If that was your first purchase when you signed up or a promotion for bonus certificates. Those happen a lot for members, especially around holidays
The membership also occasionally have "quests" for example the recent switch 2 accessories
You now have to choose standard credit, unfortunately.
If the tv was more than 500 dollars, members get a 50 dollar certificate, Your tv has to be more than 299 subtotal to qualify for financing as well but you have to choose the financing option.
If the purchase was done in store, look at the bottom of the receipt and see what it says
The current promo is if you are an existing TotalTech member or are signing up to be one AND apply for a new Best Buy credit card, you get $75 dollars in rewards points (money to spend at BBY) automatically. You can then choose to get an additional 10% of the money you spend (before tax) in reward points or interest free financing if the purchase is over $300 before tax.
I already have a card. There was always a bonus category to activate that I can remember… it would change every couple months. But now nothing.
They are seasonal offers and rotate often. I think they just had a “spend $500 outside of BB, get $50” and a 5% cash back in certain categories.
There is no bonus rewards at the moment.
Maybe they are user specific generated? cause I have 8% on grocery until the 14th
Yes, randomly offered to people.
I recently got 50 in rewards if I made a 50 dollar purchase
Any idea why?
Because they’re limited time and don’t run all the time?
Like you said, they’re typically emailed to you and you have to click and activate them. They are not offered through Best Buy, but instead through Citibank. There’s a customer service number for them on the back of your card (not the Best Buy one). They should be able to tell you which promotions you’re eligible for.
I’m logging in the Citibank card site. I’ve always activated them through the site, not email (although I don’t doubt they send an email) Multiple calls to Citibank was useless. I’m guessing it’s like the other person said, they just don’t have one right now. Last I knew it was warehouse clubs
Damn how do you get these offers? I didn’t get any email with those
They must have the Best Buy Visa and they want them to use the card outside of Best Buy.
These specifically are from the Best Buy credit card, accounts in good standing will get these a couple times a month
I mean I do get some each month but they are ones that say “spend $4000 and get a $100 rz cert”
I don't know, I get constant offers. A few a month it seems. Mostly much lower than this but yeah, they come pretty regularly
They’re individually redeemed, you could meet criteria for all and get them all.
They can be completed simultaneously but I believe your second one if specifically for automated bill pay transactions. I had both those and completed them both and only utility, cable, streaming, etc payments on automated bill pay count towards the second. Got my certificates the day after transactions posted on the account.
You're right. Didn't even think about that. Can't get it done in the next 7 days. Good to know for next time though.
I've had overlapping rewards before. This will stack from my experience
Appreciate it
Keep in mind, I believe the recurring is about subscriptions
To quote email just received,
"Reward points change: The second change is that on February 14, 2023, earning points on eligible Best Buy purchases will become an exclusive benefit of the My Best Buy® Credit Card. To continue earning rewards on your Best Buy purchases, you can apply for the My Best Buy® Credit Card and earn 10% back* in rewards on your first day of purchases. Plus, for a limited time you can earn a $100 reward certificate* when you apply, are approved for, and spend $100 on your new My Best Buy® Credit Card at Best Buy. Activation required. Offer ends February 13, 2023."
I'm a credit card member, but damn. That was like the one reason I ever shopped at BestBuy. Idiotic decision if so.
I used to go to Best Buy so much beck when I had gamers club, I understand it was too good of a deal but even before that had many pre order deals where you get 10 bucks in gift cards.
But now it’s just a store I go to maybe once a year but now I have less reason to.
I don’t want your crappy credit card, and now have less of a reason to shop with you. Glad we still have these stores for now but just sucks the rewards program are just gone for 99 percent of customers
Your argument makes no sense. If you only went once a year you would have never benefitted from the rewards points anyway.
I mean I used to spend insane money at Best Buy Easily over 1,500 and it slowed down after my gamers club went away and also Best Buy sales used to be just better
But it slowed down and now I have even less reasons to just pop in and buy things if I can’t even get rewards
membership also gets you front of line for PS5 drops ...
Yeah If you can burn 200 bucks enjoy but I can’t drop that much on a store I rarely go to now because GCU is gone and the point system changing
Yes but it is not required. If it was then 100% I would say it was bad however you do not need to have the card or TT to shop at Best Buy. Also the memberships are not for everyone although Best Buy wants them to be. Not everyone wants or needs a card or TT.
Best Buy is fully leaning into the idea of being a membership store. Not sure if that is good or bad will have to wait and see. For the longest time though they had an identity crisis of being half in half out of being a membership based store.
Haha I know no one here cares
Honestly just sucks Best Buy had some great tactics back in the day and now nothing
EVERYONE gets free shipping...
...in return, no more $5 rewards; now incentives for credit cards.
As an infrequent customer I'd take free shipping over 2% back in rewards (which might expire by the next time I shop).
For what it includes $200 is a steal. The amount of support you get is insane and well worth the $200 alone, plus you get discounts, free installs, protection plan on it like your insane if you don’t get the membership and are a consistent customer. Honestly waiting for the day they bump up the price because they lose to many employees because they don’t pay them enough to deal with the demand
Got email about the free shipping. Guess they're shuffling around member benefits. No more points but free shipping for all. Question is, how are they gonna sustain free shipping with no minimum amount? It's good for consumers, sure. But sounds like it'd hurt the company's profits.
I've had a separate employee on each of the last 3 days telling me to get the Best Buy membership vs an actual warranty on an item. The third day I had an indepth discussion about the Membership vs an actual warranty on a certain item. I told them my situation about how I'm not a frequent buyer and my use case and they still kept trying to convince me that 180 for the membership was better then the 2 year warranty at 180.
I'm curious as to what the employees get if they successfully sell a membership.
no, sales advisors do not get commission or bonuses for membership or credit card sales. the only commission i’m aware of is that category advisors for appliances and such get a commission for certain brands.
we’re heavily incentivized to push memberships and credit cards as Best Buy’s business model is based primarily around both of those items.
i will always be honest with people, the Total membership is usually situational and there are some instances where it does make the most sense to sign up for Total, however it’s not always the case.
VPLs get bonuses based on their brand, Category Advisors get bonuses based on how much revenue they sell (in their category and for the whole store), and Designers/Appliance Pros make direct commission off their sales.
This isn’t even true , cat advisors don’t make any bonuses for brands
We do get bonuses, just not commission. It's a quarterly bonus based on brand or category sales performance
oh. my appliance category advisors coworker said he makes commission, but maybe I misheard.
I sell more memberships being honest with people. "I don't think Total is best for you/this. Try out Plus for a year, it's saving you $XX today, and it's about 25% of the cost. if you want Total later, upgrade then."
Yeah they get not getting bitched at by their DM/Supervisor.
Best bonus the company can afford...
They’re commissioned on hours. No memberships, don’t expect to be scheduled.
Employees have a set amount of memberships they need to sell. They do not get any kickbacks or commission off them. It’s mostly to get upper management to get off their butts.
We get the bonus of not getting harassed by our managers.
We don't get harassed by our management. That's our bonus.
Been a BB "member" in some way for at least 7-8 years, upgrading to Total Tech probably in 2017 or so and then rolling over and renewing into this "new and improved" Total Tech membership. I always used Rewards Points from many larger purchases (appliances, devices, TVs, computers) as a way to pickup some DVDs a few times a year.
When I heard that BB was discontinuing physical media I went to check my Rewards Points which I haven't paid attention to at all this year and discovered there were none issued since early this spring.
Now my understanding is that with the "new" Total Tech membership, they've eliminated Rewards Points entirely and it's now folded into the "Cash back" or whatever "rewards" program for credit card users only.
Is this true? So no more loyalty points even for the paying Total Tech members? The folks on BB chat can't answer this question for me and referred me to a phone number support and I don't care that much to be on hold for 40 minutes with someone who barely knows what they're talking about (done that plenty of times with Best Buy over the years).
Thanks for confirming, everyone. That’s too bad. Another nail in the coffin I guess. Why take something away from their best customers? It doesn’t make sense but I guess you see it time and again when these big box businesses collapse.
Best Buy internally said the amount of unutilized rewards was worth getting rid of this program in lieu of free shipping on all orders with no order minimum. Felt more customers would value this over rewards they weren’t using. As a total member who already receives this benefit off free 2 day shipping, I understand your frustration.
I know that this decision is crap, it's anti-consumer, and I already thought Best Buy was worst buy for years now, but how much does it cost you to open a credit card if you really want the 5% back?
Because the Best Buy corporation's is that the "best customers" aren't the ones who continue to shop there over and over again, but the ones they can milk for a few extra bucks up front. It's all about short term profit at the expense of long-term viability now.
Yeah. As of Valentine’s Day, rewards points became exclusive to BBY card holders.
Not much love there from Best Buy ehhh?
Correct. The only way to earn points is by paying with a Best Buy credit card and NOT using promo financing.
I bought a new tv on Black Friday and I am a free member. No credit card or anything like that. A few days ago I was issued a 10 dollar certificate. Is this just a random gift to incentivize shopping?
They have sent random $10-$20 codes for years. Unfortunately according to Best Buy my $5 purchase last was too much to earn a bonus this year. I have switched a lot my shopping to Target or even Walmart.
Okay. So I'm not spending 15k there this month. Glad I found this.
Yes.
They 'soft cancelled' their rewards program.
Yes they are locked behind the credit card.
Yes it is bullshit
As an employee I don’t get no rewards 😂, sad tho Bc I’ve spent at least 2k so far and have like 300 points
I have about 25,000 points banked as elite plus. Still working.
Elite here and I can still bank points
Today, I got a notification that a rewards certificate was issued to my account, my account was set to accumulate points. My first thought was fraudulent activity, I contacted support and they said it happened automatically, which I thought was weird. I looked on the settings and the only option there was to auto-issue at a particular dollar value. I asked customer support about this as well and they had no idea of the change happening.
This seems very intentional/deliberate so Best Buy can control the awards issued and keep the cap level low. No idea if this is happening to anyone else.
Are you elite or elite plus
I lost elite status. Wow, I did not think being able to accumulate points would be dependent on your status. That's really lame.
May have lost elite status
That’s what i was thinking
I must've lost elite status same thing happened to me today 😒
It's a really lame condition in order to be able to accumulate points. It's literally a setting in your account.
I have no idea if this was well known or not, it was apparently just changed in October. So, now, you only get Rewards points for an Apple product if you specifically use the Best Buy credit card, and nothing else. Maybe no one cares, but I find this incredibly irritating, and kind of shitty on the part of Best Buy. Given that an iPad is $500-$2000, losing those Rewards points feels like, at least to me, kind of a big deal, especially on a new model, which would otherwise not be on sale.
I don’t think that’s right. I just bought iPhone 11 Pro and AirPods Pro with BB card last week. Says 4200 points pending.
Did you read my post? You now only get points if purchasing with the Best Buy credit card, which it sounds like is what you used. You no longer get points if using any non Best Buy credit card, or debit, or cash.
Sadly I'm in the opposite side, I used my BB credit card to purchase an iPad pro during the Black Friday sale (That seems to be lasting for several months at this point...) and listed in my account it specifically says "Apple Point Exclusion" and subtracts the points, so what should have been a little over 1500 points turned into 142. I'm tempted to email support and see whats up with that if what Wolvee26 said is true.
I don’t think that’s right. It is true you have to use standard financing on the Best Buy card however.
You don’t think what is right?
I was surprised as well when I purchased my iPad Pro last month. They still count towards your spending total for elite. I know that’s not much though as this year elite members where screwed on the early Black Friday sale.
That is fucked up. I wish I had the social media know how or clout to make a real stink about this. This policy change is bullshit.
best buy rewards program
Key Considerations for Best Buy Rewards Program:
Membership Tiers: Best Buy offers a tiered rewards program, including My Best Buy and My Best Buy Elite. Higher tiers provide more benefits, such as increased points earning rates and exclusive offers.
Earning Points: Members earn points for every dollar spent, typically 1 point per dollar. Elite members may earn 1.5 points per dollar. Points can be redeemed for discounts on future purchases.
Special Promotions: Keep an eye out for special promotions that allow you to earn bonus points on specific products or during certain sales events.
Expiration of Points: Points usually expire after a certain period (typically 12 months) if there is no qualifying purchase, so it's important to stay active in the program.
Additional Benefits: Members often receive exclusive access to sales, early notifications about promotions, and special financing options.
Recommendation: If you frequently shop at Best Buy, joining the My Best Buy program can be beneficial for earning rewards on your purchases. Consider aiming for the Elite tier if you spend a significant amount, as it maximizes your rewards potential. Always check for current promotions to make the most of your membership!
