ORIGINAL POST

Hi I am looking for a new card game (or board game) to play with my parents. We’ve all played Exploding Kittens to death and are looking for a new game. I do have a loose criteria of what I’m looking for.

  1. Ideally a card game
  2. 3 players and up
  3. Should contain some or all game mechanics similar to Exploding kittens, for example ( Hand management, Hot Potato, Player Elimination, Push Your Luck, Set Collection, Take That, and something similar to Russian roulette)
  4. Not really a criteria but we’ve played games like Uno, love letter, Sushi Go and we don’t really like those specific ones.

Thanks in advance!

Edit 1. I’m looking for something like a gateway game, easy to understand and very relaxed and rewarding.

Have you tried gubs? I found that is like exploding kittens in a lot of ways

I have not tried Grubs! I’ve done some research into games like exploding kittens and I haven’t found one quite similar to it. Thanks for the recommendation!

It is gubs. No typo

Unstable Unicorns maybe. It is in the same ballpark as Exploding Kittens. Very silly, but can be fun with the right crowd.

InvaderPunch001 · OP · 4 years ago

Yes! I’ve seen Unstable Unicorns before and tbh idk why I’ve never taken the leap, maybe it was because I got lost in the reviews. Maybe I should finally buy it?

LordChickenduck · 4 years ago

It's good. And it's pretty straightforward - reading the instructions and online guide were kind of confusing, but then when you start playing, it becomes clear you pretty much just do whatever's on the cards!

Apart from mechanics, what specifically do you like about Exploding Kittens? What don't you like about the other games?

3 upvotes on reddit
InvaderPunch001 · OP · 4 years ago

Honestly I just really enjoy the quirkiness of Exploding Kittens. I like the art style and I like the card descriptions. I really enjoy the replay-ability of the game but I’m now starting to look at other games. I also enjoy the fact that it takes about an hour to play and there is a lot of strategy involved. Thanks for the comment!

We recently got into exploding kittens and like the style/ how it plays. We want a card game when you open the box and boom there all the cards you need. Not like a tcg.

Family Feud is simply the best suggestion IMO. Every member will be involved and will enjoy playing it. With $20, you can get the digital version from GameStar+

I’m going to say Ravine.

And i wouldn’t recommend Love Letter or Unstable Unicorns, personally.

When Savage (A Game of Survival) comes out, it may quickly jump to your #1 spot, not gonna lie. (And no, I didn’t make it; I’m just the editor for the rule book.) https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/360259/savage-game-survival

Other than that, Cards Against Humanity, Kittens in a Blender, Superfight?

Similar games to exploding kittens

I’ve been playing exploding kittens for around 2 years now with all the expansions. I’ve loved the game and so have my friends. Could anyone please suggest any game that is similar? Approx 15/20 mins game time and more than a 3-players.

Dragon Run — it’s similar in that there is a dragon card that will kill you if you’re the one to draw it. But also cooperative that you don’t want it to kill everyone playing before the dragon is put to rest.

Exactly what the gentleman said. Teeturtle or unstable games are the ones. Throw throw burrito (super fun), monster vs babies, unstable unicorns (the goat), etc.

4 upvotes on reddit
youk_pannekoek · 2 years ago

Not really in the time table but here are some really good ones!

Unstable unicorns —> gather 7 unicorns in your stable aprox 30-60 minutes.

Doomlings —> all sorts of creatures and traits, once third disaster card is drawn the game ends. Player with most points at the end wins. (Probably the most similar to the strategic russian roulette type a game. 30-60 mins

Here to slay —> gather 7 slayers one of each class or slay 3 monsters. Sounds boring but is a lot of fun. Is similar to exploding kittens, unstable unicorns and doomlings in one way or another. Most fun out of the three in my opinion!

To be honest i can recommend any game by exploding kittens or unstable games/ tee turtle. They’re a lot of fun and usually dont cost more than 30 bucks.

What card game to get next?

Posted by bloopdafloop · in r/cardgames · 1 year ago

So , i recently got a game that many of you may know called exploding kittens, and my family really liked. Im looking for more similar games, and have looked over games by unstable games, which looks fun, but i feel like it would be more fun for me then my family, although i could play that with my cousins and such. I like card games like exploding kittens, and i really like the idea of card games like the ones from unstable games, or even like the idea of games such as card wars from adventure time

is there any card game that you guys would recommend me buying ?

Some of these might be tile games, but in the vein of Sushi Go you have games like

  • Splendor where you use precious gems to up the amount of gems you get per turn to buy more gems until you win. It's fun and easy to play, highly recommend. https://youtu.be/dmc8vTLHsCg

  • Canasta is a fun game you can play with two regular decks of cards. Hearts and Scotch Bridge are also fun and easy to play.

  • Carcassone is awesome if you have space. You draw a tile and take turns building cities https://youtu.be/-74FYj21JVg

  • And in case you've never heard of em, Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride are both classics.

Suche Mitspieler für / Seeking players for Exploding Kittens

Posted by black_caeser · in r/Villach · 6 months ago

(English version below)

https://dumekj556jp75.cloudfront.net/exploding-kittens/German.pdf

Exploding Kittens is an incredibly entertaining card game for up to five players which depends in equal parts on tactics, luck and psychology. The rules are easy to grasp and you’ll quickly get into the flow. With a bit of experience it’s easy to banter and gossip at the same time. The two expansion Imploding Kitten and Streaking Kitten crank the craziness of the game up to 11.

If this appeals to you and you would like to play a couple of rounds, maybe even on multiple occasions, please reach out to me. Once we reach at least for players I would coordinate time and location (in Villach).

try superfight! a little hard for me to explain, but it's a card game where you go around a circle creating a fighter and pitting them against another person's fighter. so for example one person could get a card that says Luigi, then there's another card that could give him a "power up" like say, making him 20 feet tall. then there's a "nerf" sort of card that could make him less powerful, like he's trapped in a helmet where he can't see, or something like that. then everyone in the group votes on whether he would win or another player's fighter would win if they were to fight to the death. whoever wins collects the cards and moves onto the next round. it's a ton of fun, i play it with my friends all the time
