Foreigner-Friendly Studios
For foreigners looking for dance classes in Seoul, SA's Latin Dance Community is highly recommended. They are known for being very sociable and foreigner-friendly, offering classes taught in English [1:1]
[1:5]. Another option is 1Million Studio, which has a reputation for being beginner-friendly and accommodating to foreigners, though it may be fully booked at times
[1:3].
Latin Dance Scene
If you're interested in Latin dances, Hongdae and Gangnam are the main areas for salsa dancing in Seoul. Clubs like Gangnam Turn and Salsa Club Top offer a mix of salsa and bachata music, with a predominantly on2 salsa scene [4:1]. Bulldog in Itaewon is another venue where you can find salsa dancers, both on1 and on2 styles
[4:1].
Contemporary and Jazz Dance
Finding contemporary or jazz dance studios might be more challenging, as these styles are often part of university programs in Korea [2:1]. However, reaching out to local dance communities or projects might help connect you with people who can offer advice or recommendations.
K-Pop and Hip-Hop Dance Classes
For those interested in K-pop or hip-hop dance classes, 1Million Studio is a popular choice, although availability can be an issue due to high demand [3:3]. While specific recommendations were not provided in the discussions, exploring Instagram accounts related to dance in Seoul could yield useful leads
[4:3].
Booking and Language Considerations
When booking classes, it's advisable to check websites, apps, or social media platforms like Instagram for availability and language options [3:3]. Some studios may offer classes in English or have instructors who can accommodate non-Korean speakers, making it easier for foreigners to participate.
Hello,
I'm currently on student exchange in Seoul and I figure that Korea seems like a great place to get started in learning to dance. I know about 1million obviously but it's pretty far away from me and so i was wondering if anyone else knows any dance studios that have beginner classes which foreigners can attend? I've looked online but most of the schools only have information in Korean and i think a lot of them are just for children.
If anyone has any advice please let me know!
Are you interested in pole? There's quite a few good studios, I recommend JK dance! I believe some of their branches offer non-pole dance classes, too
1Million actually has a new studio in Daejeon now if that’s closer to you than the Seoul one! They’re the most beginner & foreigner friendly out of all the studios in Korea I went to; good luck on your search!
Hi, if you're into Latin dances and are close to hongdae, there's a bachata class which is taught in English. Happy to provide further details if you're interested.
Sure, id love to hear more about it. You can reply or dm me
The company is called SA's latin dance company. There's more info on this Google doc https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeZnFUv77SrI7VNXToHqkgfmaXnpBTPsSgqEmWwZTkv_j9swA/viewform my advice would be to contact Noble (the teacher) himself. I went to the first class last Thursday and I really enjoyed it :)
Hiii! The google doc doesn’t work anymore, but is this dance class still available?

They are the most foreigner friendly dance group in Seoul imo, and very sociable too!

Hii I'm 20 years old and I am currently an undergraduate in university and I am planing to finish my undergraduate study here in Croatia (Europe) and contunue the graduate study in Korea.
Because I love contemporary, jazx and lyrical dance and I have been dancing for 14 years I am wondering if there are some dance studios in Seoul that have classes with at least one of thosr styles.
I have been searching for dance studios in Seoul but all I could find were either hip hop based studios or very expensive dance schools that I can't afford.
While I don't have detailed knowledge about this, I think that contemporary and jazz are most likely to be studied in a university program in Korea. However, you might be able to connect with some people who can give some expert advice if you contact the guys behind this project video. I think you'll find them to be friendly and helpful even if language is a problem.
Thank you very much
Hey everyone! I’ll be visiting Seoul from May 2 to May 6 and I’d love to take a dance class while I’m there. I’m not a complete beginner but definitely not a pro either — just someone who loves to dance!
Do you know any good studios that welcome foreigners and offer drop-in classes or short-term options? Bonus if the class is taught in English or easy to follow without speaking Korean. I checked out 1Million Studio, but most of the classes seem to be fully booked already.
Any tips on how to book a spot (website, app, Instagram, etc.) would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi, just wondering if you ended up being able to take a class at 1Million? I’m thinking of booking and I’m trying to decide which class would be most suited to my skill level.
Hey all! I'm looking for places to dance in Seoul. I'm going there in June. I normally dance on2 in NYC. Any good IG accounts to check out? I'd be so grateful to anyone who PMs or drops some recommendations here. Thanks!
https://www.instagram.com/latin_in_seoul?igsh=MXgwZ3o0NmczdThyMA== I used this account to navigate socials!
I'm looking at this, and using my google app to translate. But the flyers don't seem to show the location or addresses?
Depends on the post! If you have dates and a region of Seoul in mind I'd DM the owner since he doesn't make these summarized posts daily anymore.
Some of them like this have the address for a specific event on a specific date (in this case the club is Ocean, with the address underneath).
Others like this are the weekly schedule of specific clubs (in this case the club is Awesome, their acct is tagged in the description) and you need to look up the club's name in a maps app for the address. In this case you'd do well by messaging the club directly with questions.
I found Google Maps has most of these clubs, but sometimes you have to paste the Korean name into the search bar if you don't find it in English!

The two main areas for salsa dancing in Seoul are Hongdae and Gangnam. Most Latin clubs here play a mix of salsa and bachata music. The salsa scene here is predominantly on2, though I’ve seen some people dance on1 at Bulldog in Itaewon. Here’s a list of good salsa clubs you could check out:

Sehr gut
I have been learning latin dance, mainly salsa on 2 and bachata in new york city. Where can I find latin dance studios in South Korea?
If you can navigate in Korean, you can try searching for 라틴댄스. Lots of dance clubs (동호회, not nightclub) use Naver Cafe and many also have a Facebook page. There’s probably also a general English language latin dance group on Facebook and those people would know specifics about socials/classes nowadays.
I do swing dance and our clubs in Seoul had to stop for a while, but socials have started up again with limited registration. You might be able to find classes, too, if there’s a hagwon or non-동호회 class somewhere.
Try Facebook. There's a Salsa in Seoul group I found. There's probably bachata too. I don't know how much dancing will be taking place during a pandemic though. In pre-covid times Korea was a huge Hotspot for all kinds of dance, so if you're willing to wait a while, when things get back to normal the scene will hopefully return.
Dancing studios didn't close down once unless they themselves had a case. My friend goes daily to teach huge groups.
There’s a difference between hagwon studios and social clubs/동호회, though. Hagwons have been open but my dance club hasn’t been able to meet since early November.
There’s a place in Hongdae I believe below the (fabulous) latin food restaurant, Casa Latina.
I see couple groups on Meetup.
What city?
I heard that Korean dance is very difficult and beginners often dance ugly. In fact, I am a little worried that it will affect my enthusiasm because I almost failed aerobics class. (But I don’t expect to dance for others, I just think I should cultivate some dancing hobbies. I think Korean dance is very beautiful.
If you’re talking about traditional Korean dance, it’ll be very location-dependent and whether you have a big Korean community in your city. If you can’t find any, anything ballet/contemporary/lyrical classes will at least train your body and develop your sense of rhythm. If you’re talking about K-pop, just about any dance studio in an Asian-heavy suburb will have kpop classes.
I live mainly in China (and also plan to work in Korea, the UK or Japan), but since the Korean ethnic group is actually distributed in Northeast China and North and South Korea, there seem to be many schools of this dance style, and I don't know which one is good for beginners (and will not hinder advanced practice). I heard that the teaching of many training classes is not very reliable.
Are you able to speak Chinese? The easiest most reliable way would probably be to browse Chinese forum recommendations by typing in the specific cities known for having a big population of ethnic Koreans. Otherwise as general advice (not Korean dance specific), I would browse websites and see which studios explicitly have a curriculum. If you go in person, it’s a good sign if they start with basic movements and talk about the lines of your body, intention behind each move etc. rather than jump into choreography.
The more classes on the timetable, likely the more popular and reputable. See if they upload any videos on their students or host cultural performance events. If they do, they’re likely more confident in their teaching ability.
traditional
Like, K-Pop or traditional Korean Dances?
If it’s K-Pop, I can teach you online 😊

Hi everyone!
I will be moving to Seoul for a year starting in the summer, and I am interested in taking salsa classes. From what I’ve read there seems to be a very big salsa dancing scene, but I’m a little unclear on which studios in Seoul offer classes, and if so, whether they tend to be on 1 or on 2 (I have only danced on 1 but am interested in either continuing and/or learning on 2).
I’ve found Jhonatan Dance Company, which does salsa on 1. Wondering if anyone has any other recs? I’ll likely be in Gangnam but am willing to make the commute if needed.
Thank you so much!
The (salsa) dance scene in Korea is mostly through "clubs" (동호회). Clubs are slightly different than dance studios:
I think most if not all of these clubs switched to "on 2" several years ago.
The Salsa clubs in Seoul are concentrated in two main areas: Gangnam + Hongdae.
Here is the place I learned salsa several years ago (Hongdae): https://cafe.daum.net/latinboston
My friend is currently active in the Gangnam salsa scene. He thinks it's better in Gangnam. He likes their teaching style better.
I just looked up Jhonatan Dance Company and here are a few more differences:
Thank you so much!
This is the Salsa/Bachata club in Gangnam that my friend recommends: https://cafe.daum.net/kwbsht
download an app called "naver maps" hands down the best english app to use in seoul. and search for salsa. theres one right next to gangnam station. called Salsa Club Everlatin: https://naver.me/xWTnqaqW
app is great because has live map and navigation with real time train and bus stop info and reviews by users of the places it finds.
Thank you so much!

Basically what the title says. Been meaning to get back into dance as I haven’t done it since grade 10
The Kore Dance studio(s). They opened more locations since I went there years ago. My friend took classes there for years & she introduced me to their donation days. So you can just call and ask them which days you can bring a can of soup to get entrance to the class, most of the time it was Fridays when I went. And look at their IG for which style they'll be doing on those drop-in days. I went during 2 K-Pop classes and a lot of other styles as well.
Unfortunately the Kore doesn't really exist anymore (at least in the capacity you describe) :/ OP: I'd recommend looking into some of the post-secondary based dance clubs that are usually run by students - I know MUDC has posted about k-pop drop ins before.
There are K-pop dance classes every Wednesday at LightUpK (unitek.ent on Instagram has the details). University of Alberta Recreation also offers K-pop dance classes.
Check out unitek.ent on IG, they do Kpop dance classes sometimes in Edmonton. Next Wednesday it looks like they will be doing blackpink, def give them a look
Hey, does anyone know if there are any local K-pop dance studios that I can have classes in
Definitely a pretty niche thing for Mobile. Not saying there isn’t anything like that here, but the people who own Starlite Ballroom may be able to give you some advice on if there are any other dance places in the area for something like that.
