TL;DR
High Heat and Cooking Performance
One of the key considerations when choosing an electric grill is its ability to reach high temperatures. Many electric grills struggle to exceed 500°F, but some models can achieve higher temperatures necessary for searing steaks. The Weber Lumin, for instance, heats up to 1450°F, making it a strong contender for those who prioritize high heat [2:3]. Another option is the FireMagic electric grill, which can hit around 700°F in 15 minutes
[2:6].
Cooking Area and Capacity
For those who need ample cooking space, especially when entertaining guests, the Traeger Grills Pro 780 offers a generous cooking area and operates at 120v, ensuring compatibility with standard outlets [3:2]. This model is praised for its durability and aesthetic appeal, making it suitable for outdoor setups.
Portability and Convenience
If portability is important, consider models like the Weber Q2200, which is noted for its convenience in small spaces [1:2]. For balcony use, the Weber Lumin and Ninja Woodfire are recommended within a budget of $300
[4:3],
[4:4].
Indoor Options
For indoor grilling, the Hamilton Beach unit is mentioned as a reliable choice, though some users prefer cast iron skillets for steak due to their even heating and ease of cleaning [5:4]. Cast iron pans offer versatility and can be used for butter basting and reverse searing techniques
[5:9].
Additional Considerations
When selecting an electric grill, consider factors such as ease of cleaning, durability, and whether you need a portable or stationary model. It's also worth checking user reviews and recommendations on forums like Reddit for real-world insights and experiences.
Have camp that is boat access only and bring propane is a hassle. Anyone try electric?
I have an electric grill. I like it, it's definitely not as good as charcoal, but it's not much different than gas imo and not having to deal with propane tanks is worth it for me.
What brand ?
Weber Q2200. I have an extremely tiny back yard in a dense city, so convenience is important to me. It grills nicely enough and has never let me down in two years.
Technically a pellet grill is electric. But failing that Weber brout out the lumin last year and it's supposed to be good.

many can't reach even 500f. There are only a couple that reach 700. A few claim to reach 600F. For steaks it has to go 600+.
You looking for a portable that you can bring with you, or a full size that you can leave in one spot?
Leave it once I get it there. So something of decent quality.
What type of price range?
My parents are getting older and dealing with propane is becoming beyond what they want to deal with (that and their old gas grill is dying). I’m considering getting them an electric grill which will be used mainly for the 2 of them, but would def get used more when family comes over. Looking for something reliable yet sufficient for if 10 people arrived. Any recommendations? Thanks for everyone’s input!
I'm curious what the issue is with propane that's too much of a hassle for them?
Electric grills range from terrible to "meh" in my experience.
Well on their current and past gas grills the gas hose has gotten chewed by animals, the internal grill parts that gas flows through rusts, overall their gas grills have always degraded over time. Also since my parents are 70+ in age just dealing with exchange propane tanks is becoming a challenge due to the weight of a fresh filled tank. I just figured maybe electric grill is way to go for them. I also realize that fire is needed for normal grilling and do expect food to taste slightly different. My parents are on verge of just eliminating their grill and no more grilling so figured I should at least look into possibility of an electric powered grill.
I've seen few electric grills that actually hit high temps while operating off a standard 110v outlet. FireMagic makes an electric grill that hits 700ish degrees in 15min. If their fine with cooking temps around 500f an electric weber q.
Propane cylinders are made of materials other than steel, they get significantly pricier and lighter. A 20 pound fiberglass cylinder empty weighs around 7.5 pounds compared to a steel cylinders weight of 18ish pounds. The fiberglass cylinder is usually 3x times the cost of a steel cylinder and get even pricier for non common sized tanks. The cylinder is opaque, so if one puts a source of light behind the tank you can see the level of liquid propane remaining.
Luma electric Grill $250 on Amazon. Heats up to 1450°F.
What are peoples experiences with the Weber Lumin?
I'm with you but cooking for 10 on that is going to be a challenge.
Good ole George makes one
Hey all,
As the title suggests, I'm looking for help in choosing a new outdoor electric grill. I've scoured the online articles and review, etc. but really just don't know what to expect/look for. I have a PK300 which I use typically but I'd like something easier for regular day to day grilling.
My "wish" list in order of priority:
Some I've looked at and my quick thoughts:
I've looked at several others but most align to one of the above anyway. So, there it is - any thoughts from this group of grilling experts?
Appreciate any and all help!
I've gotta say, the Traeger Grills Pro 780 is a winner. It's got a generous cooking area, hits high temperatures easily (perfect for those corn ribs), and operates at 120v, so no worries about voltage compatibility. Plus, it's built to last and looks great in any outdoor setup. I haven't tried the others you mentioned, but the Traeger's been a game-changer for me.

Weber q1400
Check out this list of best electric grills. There's probably one that suits your needs. My personal favorite is the char broil.
I live in an apartment where charcoal and gas grills are not allowed in the balconies but electric grills are okay. I have a cheap 50-dollar one right now, and it is the very definition of "good enough for now" but I have been considering upgrading it as soon as possible.
What would you recommend for a max budget of 300 dollars?
I'd recommend the Ninja Woodfire
Sounds like Weber Q-series or Lumin time.
What kind do you have now? I'm in the market for an extra cheap electric grill
I most likely live way too far away from you to ship it for you for a reasonable price so this piece of shit is staying with me for now
I meant what kind lol. I wasn't interested on yours specifically
What's your budget?
This is my unit. It is by Hamilton Beach and it works well but I am curious if there is a better option???
Don’t know about the grill, but those steaks look amazing
Serious question out of curiosity. What's the difference between an indoor grill and a frying pan?
The grill itself
Sure. But what can the grill accomplish that the frying pan couldn't?
Cast iron heats evenly, fat stay sun the pan, and you can butter baste.
Reverse sear is also a beautiful way to cook steak.
The juices dropping below the grill rack
Those types of grills, they’re ok, but they’re a bitch to clean. If you’re doing a steak indoors, nothing beats a cast iron skillet.
Do you guys get a lot of smoke inside when you’re cooking with cast iron?
My house has a recirculating duct-less vent hood and I hate it. It just blows the smoke back into my kitchen. Trying to figure out if I’m using cast iron wrong or if you guys can all handle the smoke.
I used to. Now I use less oil (pour a bit in and spread it around with a paper towel and soak up all the excess) and I heat the skillet on high and once it’s piping hot I turn it down to medium before I sear and I get wayyyyyy less smoke.
I bought a lodge with the grill marks. Fuck I hated it. Cleaned it once then gave it away to a friend. Cleaned and seasoned. They were so happy and I was so happy to never have to cook on the fucking thing again. Regular cast iron is just as good.
I use one of these, works great but the portion sizes are pretty small. Feel free to PM me for questions
Do they still sell these? I was wondering if the end of incandescent light bulbs would kill this product.
My husband’s birthday is coming up and I want to get him something actually useful. Budget’s not really an issue, so I thought an electric grill would be a great idea since he’s super into that kind of stuff, especially for our family burger nights. Only problem is, I know absolutely nothing about electric grills, and if I just pick one myself, I’ll probably end up wasting money on something lame lol. If anyone here’s into grilling, please help your girl out. I’m looking for something mid-sized (not tiny but not some huge monster either), durable, and most importantly, easy to clean because our current grill is a nightmare when it comes to cleaning. Would love any recommendations or tips you guys have.
>I know absolutely nothing about electric grills, and if I just pick one myself, I’ll probably end up wasting money on something lame
Then don't! Let your husband pick it out and buy it. Nobody wants a grill they don't like picked out by someone who doesn't know what they're looking for.
Personal preference matters here.
Do you really need electric? If not, I'd recommend propane or charcoal.
I’m not trying to be rude to the OP, but I didn’t know that they made electric grills.
Weber Q series outdoor electric grill:
Nice link, and happy Cake Day!!!
Don't make me tap the sign!
The sign:
LET YOUR PARTNER PICK OUT THEIR OWN GRILL
ETA: It would be great if you 1) enthusiastically support getting a grill, 2) help set a budget, and 3) help with general decisions like where to put the grill and type of fuel. But the person predominantly using the grill really should be deciding what to get because it is suprisingly complicated and personal. You don't even need a huge budget, that's not what I'm saying. But there are huge differences between, say $300 gas, pellet, or charcoal grills.
This all the way. Surprises are awesome but some things I want to pick out. A grill being one of them.
And are you sure he wants an electric? I had an electric one but when buying a new one, I wanted to “upgrade” to gas or pellet or even charcoal. He might have his reasons for electric which is cool.
That being said, I would rather have a card that said “I love you, let’s go pick out a new grill.” You could even get creative and give him some steaks with a note that said something like “how would you like to grill these on a new grill.”
Gift certificate/pre-paid Visa. Please do not attempt to pick something out like this for someone else. My boyfriend did that with me, and while I appreciated the gift immensely, it wasn’t what I wanted. I’d much rather have been given the money to go shop for what I wanted. You are going to be extremely limited with electric as well.
Ding ding, good answer.
This is the way
I know, I know it’s sacrilegious, but I am moving into a townhome complex that doesn’t allow for charcoal or propane grills on the patio. There are propane grills available across the way, but cooking at home with a kiddo is so much easier.
Now that the premise is set, anyone have experience with grills like the Char-Broil Edge Electric Grill or other recommendations? I have 12-ish months of this real-grill-less hell and want to find the best solution possible.
I recommend the Ninja Woodfire Grill which has a pellet hopper to smoke pellets to get real smoke flavor.
Are you sure they are allowed?
Yeah, read the restrictions carefully to make sure. Electric of any size and only campfire propane, 2.5lb bottle limit.
I have been very pleased in using a $50 craigslist electric tabletop BBQ grill in conjunction with grillgrates for I noticed on the first cook using them, the meat has better flavor and juicer, instead of juices passing to bottom making a mess below and then flaring-up.
I loved smoking and grilling on my Weber kettle but since moving to an apartment I can no longer use a charcoal grill. Now I’m on the hunt for the best electric grill that can handle outdoor cooking and still deliver that satisfying grilling experience. What’s the best electric grill for outdoor use that you’d recommend? Are there any models that really stand out in terms of performance and durability?
I highly recommend the Ninja Woodfire Pro XL. I use it not only as a grill but also as a smoker by smoldering pellets in a small container, and it runs off a standard house outlet, without any issues. While it’s not a true smoker, it grills steaks up really well and the wood flavor comes through surprisingly nicely when using standard pellets. Plus, the air fry function is a godsend for making wings.
I'll second the Ninja Woodfire Pro XL.
9 mil reais? dá para pagar uma churrascaria por um ano
Traeger Ranger is tabletop, under 200 square inches, electric powered wood pellet burning, and UL listed.
Ninja Woodfire.
Grilling and bbq are two different things.
When i had an apt I had a Weber Q electric grill and thought it was awesome
I bought a char-broil from Home Depot about 4 years ago and kept it in good condition (never out in the rain, cleaned often) and it’s on its last leg. *side note- is 4 years standard for a regular grill? I thought I’d last a little longer
My husband makes steak frequently and cooks in on a cast iron on our gas stove but it gets extremely Smokey in the house and I’m tired of deep cleaning my stove multiple times a week from all the grease- so a grill that could cook his steaks with the cast iron would be priority.
Thanks!
Weber Genesis gas grill with side burner
For the best value, I’d look at the Weber Performer with gas ignition. All the flexibility of charcoal with the convenience of gas to get things started. I bought one used for 75 bucks and it’s been great. New they are a bit spendy, but it will last for years.
You might also look at the slow and sear kettle grill. A bit less costly new than the Weber performer, but they’ve made some real improvements on the original Weber kettle, and they have a great set of options for expansion.
The answer depends on what you're willing to spend. Weber Kettle grills are excellent for the price point. A Kamado grill is a step up in price and performance, but can char a steak at much higher temperatures. Gas grills are convenient if you're not picky about charcoal flavor, but you can spend a lot of money and still get a flimsy setup.
Weber kettle. You're welcome.
Weber kettle and maybe a Weber q 1200 to sear steaks.
You should’ve said Weber Kettle, drop the mic !
The only right answer!
Anything Weber would be ideal. Kettle for charcoal or any of the gas grills they offer, price point depends on features you want. I’ve had my Weber for about 8 years now, few minor bumps and bruises but still going strong!
We live in an apartment complex that essentially bans everything except for electric grills.
I have been doing research into them and have heard many say that you aren’t going to get grill flavor and you’d be better off with a cast iron skillet.
I just want to know if they’re even worth it. Again, I’m only even contemplating an electric grill over a charcoal / gas because of limitations. I’d like to be able to grill out for my family on the balcony. But on the same token, if it’s not worth it then it’s not worth it.
Gas and charcoal grills are harder to set up and clean than electric grills. But it's important to note that they don't have the real grill taste that you get from a traditional grill. Overall, electric grills have benefits that other types of grills can't match, so buying one is a good idea.
The cheaper units aren't typically worth it. FireMagic makes an electric grill that hits around 700f an operates off of a standard 110v outlet. Some areas let the tenants operate pellet 'grill' smokers.
Pellet grills are electric.
I was in the same boat with apartment rules - I have used an electric table top grill since 2019 in conjunction with grillgrate, I have been more than pleased!!! I get excellent sear marks, along with very well tasting and juicy meat. I have used ceramic briquettes below the grates which helps during winter.
best electric grill
Key Considerations for Choosing the Best Electric Grill:
Cooking Surface Area: Look for a grill with ample cooking space (at least 200 square inches) to accommodate multiple servings at once.
Temperature Control: Adjustable temperature settings allow for better cooking control, ensuring you can sear, grill, or slow-cook your food effectively.
Heating Elements: Consider grills with multiple heating elements for even cooking. Some models have a grill plate that heats up quickly and retains heat well.
Ease of Cleaning: Non-stick surfaces and removable grill plates make for easier cleaning. Some grills are dishwasher-safe, which can save time.
Portability: If you plan to use the grill indoors or take it outdoors, look for a lightweight model with a compact design.
Safety Features: Features like cool-touch handles and automatic shut-off can enhance safety during use.
Recommendation: The George Foreman 15-Serving Indoor/Outdoor Electric Grill is a top choice due to its large cooking surface, adjustable temperature control, and versatility for both indoor and outdoor use. It also features a non-stick grill plate for easy cleaning. If you're looking for a more compact option, the Hamilton Beach Electric Indoor Searing Grill is a great choice, offering good performance in a smaller size, with a lid that helps retain heat and moisture.
