Best Ergonomic Mouse

TL;DR

  • Logitech MX Ergo: Highly recommended for reducing wrist strain, especially if you're open to trackballs [1:1], [2:5].
  • Logitech MX Master 3/3S: Popular choice for comfort and functionality, suitable for both work and gaming [3:3], [4:2].
  • Vertical Mice: Consider vertical mice like the Anker Vertical Mouse for significant ergonomic benefits [3:4], [5:2].

Ergonomic Benefits

Many users have found relief from wrist pain by switching to ergonomic mice. The Logitech MX Ergo is praised for its ability to reduce wrist strain significantly, allowing longer periods of computer use without discomfort [1:1]. Vertical mice, such as the Anker Vertical Mouse, are also highly recommended, with users noting a reduction in nerve pain and overall hand comfort [3:4], [5:2].

Trackball Options

For those interested in trackballs, the Kensington Expert and Slimblade are popular choices. Users appreciate the flexibility in how they can be used, which allows them to find a technique that minimizes pain [2:2], [2:7]. However, some users find it challenging to adjust to trackballs due to differences in speed and accuracy compared to traditional mice [2:5].

Traditional and Gaming Mice

The Logitech MX Master 3 and 3S are frequently mentioned as top choices for ergonomic traditional mice. They offer comfort and functionality, making them suitable for both productivity and casual gaming [3:3], [4:2]. For gaming-specific needs, the Logitech G502 and SteelSeries Rival are highlighted for their ergonomic design and performance [5:1], [5:4].

Customization and Versatility

Some users recommend having multiple mice to switch between different hand positions, which can help alleviate strain over long periods [3:1]. Additionally, features like programmable buttons and DPI adjustments are valued for enhancing user experience and adaptability to various tasks [4:5].

Considerations Beyond the Discussions

When choosing an ergonomic mouse, consider your specific hand size and grip preference, as these factors can significantly impact comfort and usability. It's also beneficial to try out different models before purchasing to ensure the best fit for your needs.

I was wondering what y'all's favorite kind of mouse was to use. Recently, I've been wanting to invest in a different mouse because my current one just hurts. I've heard about ergonomic vertical mouse has that helped anyone?

I have ridiculously tiny hands, and people in my office ALWAYS laugh at the mouse I use. basically I buy either a children's/travel size mouse. it's small enough to basically fit in the palm of my hand so that I don't have to bend my wrist up. I essentially place it in the middle of my palm and then move my whole hand along with the mouse rather than moving at the wrist joint? if that makes any sense... on the odd occasion where I have to use someone else's mouse, it feels giant and my wrist is cranked all the way up cuz it's so tall. I don't know how everyone else does it

here's the one I'm currently using, bonus it's 12 bucks: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BWPQBL7/ref=pd_aw_subss_hxwPER_sspa_mw_detail_sbl_s_ds1_pn_n_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07BWPQBL7&pd_rd_r=2542da40-7e62-455d-86e6-d087a9ee9bbc&pd_rd_wg=sLuXl&pd_rd_w=6FaIE

I've been through them all: trackball, vertical, small, and big ones. Logitech's MX Ergo was by far the best for me; it allowed me to stay for 200% longer periods in front of the computer without significant wrist strain. Now, about a year later, I'm having thumb issues from texting and drumming, and I feel I'll have to dig out my MX Vertical from the closet.

The ergonomics of the Slimblade

Posted by dcibel120 · in r/Trackballs · 1 year ago

Hello,

I have started my trackball journey about 6 weeks ago for ergonomic reasons. With any mouse, the edge of my wrist is always pressing against the desk which creates a twisting sort of pain, I end of cracking my wrists several times a day for relief. I am coming from a Logitech MX Master 3.

I purchased a MX Ergo as it appeared popular and available everywhere, and I have always enjoyed Logitech mice, in particular they have better scroll wheels than any other I've seen. MX Master mag wheel is "perfect" in my eyes. Unfortunately, the MX Ergo has a normal wheel that feels rather scratchy to scroll, quite disappointing.

The MX Ergo has solved my ergonomic problem, it's very comfortable to use, mywrist pain is relieved, but 6 weeks in I am still working on muscle memory to get the speed and accuracy that I am used to. I keep reading about people that claim that finger trackballs are the better solution for speed and accuracy over using your thumb, and that the Kensington Slimblade is the best of the best. However, I am having trouble understanding the ergonomics of this flat square with a ball in the middle. It looks like I would generally still be twisting my arm to be parallel with the desk to use it, and it has no where to place my wrist, so I guess it's more of a "hover hand" situation. This sounds like "tired arm" to me. Can someone help me understand how this is better ergonomically for hours of daily use?

For the finger ball experience, I have just ordered a Protoarc EM03 last night, as it was available to me for about 1/3rd of the price of the slimblade, so at least I can try out the finger ball option and see if I prefer it without a great expense. If I can be convinced that the Slimblade is the bees knees, perhaps I can splurge for it down the road if I decide I prefer the finger operation.

Thanks!

I've been using the Kensington expert for 5 years and will always recommend it. The wrist rest that comes with it is enough for me. I control the ball with all 5 fingers , left click with my thumb and right click with my pinky. The front buttons i program to different things based on what im doing, otherwise i have them set to backspace and delete

Large finger balls give you a lot of different ways to use them. Everyone seems to have figured out their own technique that doesn't cause them pain. It's completely possible to use it in a way that will hurt your hand and wrist. Personally, the way I use large finger balls is with a forearm rest. Planting my wrist is what caused a lot pain when I used a mouse. The Expert trackball has a wrist rest, and I planted my wrist with that and continued to have wrist pain. I started using a forearm rest which allowed me to hover over the ball and use the larger arm muscles for large movements (like moving between screens on a multiple monitor setup), while using my fingers for fine and accurate movement. You could put a wedge under the slimblade to give a more neutral arm position. The Expert is angled toward the user. I saw someone here rotate the expert and remap the buttons and movement axis so that it could be used with a more ergonomic arm position.

Thanks, this is helpful. Angling the blade at 20-30 degrees would make sense to me. I think I would struggle to figure out what to do with my wrist to use it, and don't want to spend the premium price just to find out that UI hate it. But, from looking at others that have tried several different trackballs and favour the slimblade over the alternatives, it can't be that bad, right? I will see how I enjoy the EM03 and take things from there.

Which forearm rest do you use? My wife just got a finger ball ans is having pain in the top of her wrist which I am thinking could be helped by a forearm rest

I have MX Ergo that feels very comfortable to me and decided to try Slimblade Pro. I can't get used to it. First, I have the same ergonomics concerns with it as mentioned here. The palm have to stay parallel to the desk to reach the buttons. The book as palm rest doesn't change much. Second, I can't be that fast and accurate as with MX Ergo. This is because with MX Ergo the fingers always immediately ready to do a click or a scroll. But with Slimblade the fingers have to move. Third, the MX Ergo ball is noticeably smoother, you can make very small movements and the cursor follow smoothly. And with Slimblade the ball and the cursor jumps at the start of the movement. I actually don't understand why my experience is so much different to other people who like Slimblade Pro. I wanted to like it too.

Thank you, this is helpful. I am keeping with MX Ergo as well, the "stiction" of the EM03 annoys me too much, I couldn't get used to it.

1 upvotes on reddit
itsmetadeus · 1 year ago

EM03 and Slimblade feels very different to use despite both being finger trackballs.

The thing with speed and accuracy supremacy of finger trackballs is not really objective. The difference is noticeable specifically with fast motions and moving far with a cursor. But they feel different not only because of used type of finger(s) per se. The size of the ball really matters. I understood that when tried Elecom Deft that has a 34mm ball - which is a standard among thumb trackballs. There are scenarios when finger type suits better and others when thumb trackballs makes more sense.

One thing I must say is that thumb trackballs are easier to get on. They have more consistency with user experience. Finger trackballs have more variety in button layouts, ball sizes, scrolling methods and whole device shapes. You would think that's actually pretty good. But not really when you search for the one specific, especially because of health reasons.

After all, if possible, I recommend to look only for a purchase with a decent refund policy.

Edit:

Worth to mention that some people are getting fatigue or even RSI when using a trackball with a thumb. If that's not you, a thumb trackball might be a valid option.

3 upvotes on reddit
dcibel120 · OP · 1 year ago

Thumb fatigue is not me...yet, given I've only been using the trackball for about 6 weeks, and still use a MX Master 3 mouse at work 3-4 days a week. Hopefully I will enjoy the EM03, currently I am just trying to understand what makes the slimblade a great option from an ergonomics standpoint.

Can anyone recommend a computer mouse that has worked really well for you? I’ve tried the Logitech Lift Vertical Ergonomic Mouse but it was really uncomfortable. I like my coworker’s mouse (Jelly Comb brand) but it’s not for sale anymore. Would love to hear what others are using that supports the hand well.

Danggggg. I wonder what the issue is then maybe an occupational therapist could help more. Or at least pinpoint the specific areas on your hand that are causing issues. You may look at a thumb style roller ball option to completely isolate the arm movement and totally focus on the thumb movement on the roller. I truly think the Logitech offerings are the best for ergo and all others sort of mimicking those at a cheaper price. Roller ball could be the best way to go for you.

Best ergonomic mouse?

Posted by niC00L · in r/MouseReview · 4 years ago

Hello. I'm a graphic designer using various 2d,3d and video editing software. I easily spend 6 or more hours a day at my computer clicking around. My current horizontal mouse is pretty good and comfortable but it's killing my wrist. I want to invest to a more wrist-friendly one. I want a wireless rechargeable one, preferably with Bluetooth and option to be connected to at least 2 computers at the time. I want it to feel premium and comfortable with at least 2 extra buttons and DPI change button. My preferred price is around 70€, but if there would be a queen of mice for 120€ I'd go for that. What would you guys suggest?

The Logitech G502 is really good for both gaming and productivity. It's so good in terms of ergonomics, I ended up buying three of them (two for me, one for my mom). It can be programmed so that it stores profiles/custom keybinds on the on-board memory, and the software (Logitech Gaming Software) isn't absolutely terrible compared to the competition.

Downside is that it works for right-handed people only.

My best friend's actually a lefty and he uses the mouse with his right hand. He's a Legendary Eagle Master (top 5% or so of players) in competitive CS:GO so I don't think it holds him back in any way.

I think that most of them operate a computer the same way that right handed people do.

Mouse ergonomico para trabajar?

Posted by ClickOk5572 · in r/chileIT · 3 months ago

Siempre he sido de usar mouse. Me encanta.

Looking for a perfect "ergonomic" mouse for office & gaming? Is it possible though?

Posted by Ragg3r · in r/MouseReview · 1 year ago

Hi,

I have been using a Zaopin Z1 Pro for some time, but I decided to look for another option.
The thing is that I tend to play less game (mostly cs,val) recently, and thought about changing Zaopin, as I think its not the best ergonomic mouse overall? ( I may be wrong, as I am new to mouses, tbh).

Recently i picked up Glorious D2 PRO and O2 PRO for testing, I liked the d2 for palm grip, but it feels so clunky for gaming. Whereas the O2 pro is just a solid good mouse, but not a serious upgrade in terms of ergonomic comparing to Z1 PRO.

And now for reference, my hand is rather small, hand length - around 18cm, 7 inches.

Is there a mouse that could meet my requirements, good for gaming from time to time, but very good in terms of ergonomic for healthy hand?

I also thought about having a another mouse, just for office work, MX master 3s or smth.

And actually, is a Zaopin z1 pro, which is a small egg-shaped mouse - is it good for ergonomics? Or is flat mouse like o2 pro or d2 pro better?

The Attack shark R1 from aliexpress is a very comfortable smaller ergonomic mouse below 60 grams. You can compare it with the D2 on eloshapes.com.

I own 5 copies and all have solid QC. The sensor is on par with top sensors despite being a 3311 and some people questioning the performance.

My gripe with the mouse would be the rather slippery coating (they include some grips that Arent that grippy but passable), the skates are slow (worth swapping out with dots if you end up liking it), and the sensor doesnt like cordura surfaces, fine on any cloth.

You can find one on aliexpress for around 20 bucks. The Z1 and O2 are both most definitely not ergonomic. And yes the D2 is a fairly bulky mouse that is considered too big for many people including myself.

You have the usual ergonomic mouse recommendations like the Logitech G502 X lineup, the Razer Basilisk lineup, and Glorious with their Model I series. Keychron also has their M6 and M7, but I've heard those can be hit or miss and often need extra grip tape.

Regarding office mice, while I used to love my MX Master 3, the thing that bugs me most—and the reason I've basically stopped using it—is the rubber coating. It feels awful and becomes oily after just over a year of use, no matter how much I clean it, so I can't recommend it to others anymore.

I don't find my hands on the mouse enough for ergonomics on it to matter much. Keyboard and chair/desk setup seems way more important.

What I do love is having a button on the top to toggle frictionless vs clicky scroll... don't think that's a standard feature yet. Highly recommend. Having the right scroll mode probably helps ergonomics, too.

It sucks when you just need to scroll down a bit. But I hate my life whenever I don't have my MX and have to quickly scroll 100 times to get to the bottom of a document. With frictionless, I can give the wheel 2-3 good flicks and it will go down thousands of rows in seconds. How do you deal with this without frictionless?

I am using an MX 2. It seems like a very solid choice. I have been using it for the past 5 years. 8/10

Looking for a ergonomic/productivity mouse.

I recently quit gaming a few months ago, and I'm in the process of selling all of my old peripherals. I was wondering what some good ergonomic mice are. I was looking at the MX Master 3S, but I heard the entire backside is rubber, so I'm cautious since I had a pretty bad experience with rubber grips on my old Viper Ultimate.

Also take a look at the Logitech g903. Ambidextrous shape, hyperscroll wheel, tilt scroll wheel, and side buttons on both sides.

May be a bit heavy, but worth it for the additional button assignments.

Can you recommend a similar mouse for shape/function? I love the G903, but I'm on my third one (two purchased, second one replaced under warranty) with switches with double click issues, so I don't want to buy another Logitech.

All depends on what your priorities are because you'll probably have to sacrifice something. I taught myself a long time ago to use a mouse left handed at work so that I could game right handed in the evening without getting carpel tunnel. Ambidextrous with right side buttons is a must for my productivity mouse.

There are several Razer options out there, but I use a Mac for work. They stopped supporting Apple about the time they partnered with Microsoft to develop Xbox peripherals.

One option would be to repair the g903. There are plenty of videos on youtube on how to do it. I have two and both work just fine, although middle click on the one at home is rather mushy.

I'm yet to find another ambidextrous shape with side buttons on both sides and tilt scroll. If you find one, let me know. I could live without hyperscroll but gotta have the tilt wheel.

Check out eloshapes.com if size and shape are your priority. There was also an awesome Google spreadsheet someone created, but it hasn't been updated in about 5 years.

I really like the g502 series from Logitech when doing productivity stuff. The scroll wheel and well positioned additional buttons are very nice.

The rubber on the MX Master 3S is the weak point in the build. Guys around my office have had them for a while now and its a mixed bag. from my experience, the rubber bits are vulnerable to UV exposure (don't sit it out in front of a window 24/7), and if you have acidic hand oils - or eat greasy shit and work at the same time, it will fuck that rubber up in about 6 months if you dont wipe it down when you are done working.

On the other hand, most of the ones around our shop look just like they came out of the box.

There are however 3d printed replacements for the rubber shell kicking around, so you could get a shell printed pretty easily to replace the nasty rubber when it eventually dies.

The MX Master 2S is also a great mouse and you can get one super cheap from an open box or ebay.

Ploopy Mouse is also pretty damn nice, but not everyones cup of tea.

Id also recommend looking at a Trackball if you have wrist or elbow issues, as it will allow you to move a lot less. Elecom Deft Pro is a solid choice that you can get open box for like 30-40$ on ebay, and has a bunch of buttons you can use for macros and productivity keys (copy/paste keys are primo if you do a lot of that in your workflow.)

Best ergonomic gaming mouse?

Posted by [deleted] · in r/starcraft · 4 years ago

After years of splitting marines I have developed carpal tunnel. Does anyone have a recommended ergonomic gaming mouse to use? I have been using an evoluent vertical mouse mostly for work but doesn’t feel optimal for starcraft. Does anyone have suitable alternatives?

Edit; this is a genuine question, I don’t understand the desire to downvote this.

The Logitech G pro wireless is great if you still want a traditional shape; it tracks great and is incredibly lightweight

If you're able to (or covered), you should try to go to a doctor who may refer you to physio. These things can develop from sitting wrong, oversized keyboards pushing your shoulder outwards, incorrect angling of the wrist etc... You should pinpoint it before you try buying a mouse.

Has this been diagnosed or do you think you have it?

If there's a certain kind of mouse that feels better then by all means, just like if there's certain desk set ups. But, if you have pain that's affecting you, it's not so simple as change mouse and you're good to go. So, talk with your physio about your options.

Undiagnosed, however, even just working I’d get the same pain. I’m 99% sure I have it due to the consistency of getting the pain.

Whenever I use my vertical mouse I have no issues at all though.

best ergonomic mouse

Key Considerations for Choosing an Ergonomic Mouse:

  1. Shape and Design: Look for a mouse that fits comfortably in your hand. Ergonomic mice come in various shapes (vertical, contoured) to reduce wrist strain. Test different shapes to find what feels best for you.

  2. Grip Style: Consider your grip style (palm, claw, fingertip) and choose a mouse that accommodates it. A palm grip typically requires a larger mouse, while claw and fingertip grips may benefit from smaller, more compact designs.

  3. Size: Ensure the mouse is the right size for your hand. A mouse that's too small or too large can lead to discomfort over time. Many brands offer small, medium, and large options.

  4. Button Placement: Check the placement of buttons and scroll wheels. They should be easily accessible without straining your fingers. Customizable buttons can enhance productivity.

  5. Wired vs. Wireless: Decide between wired and wireless options. Wireless mice offer more freedom of movement, but ensure the battery life is sufficient for your needs.

  6. DPI Settings: Look for adjustable DPI (dots per inch) settings, which allow you to change sensitivity based on your tasks. Higher DPI is better for detailed work, while lower DPI is suitable for general use.

Recommendations:

  • Logitech MX Master 3: This mouse is highly regarded for its ergonomic design, customizable buttons, and excellent battery life. It supports multiple devices and has a comfortable grip for long hours of use.

  • Anker Ergonomic Vertical Mouse: If you're looking for a budget-friendly option, this vertical mouse promotes a natural handshake position, reducing wrist strain. It's simple and effective for everyday use.

  • Razer Basilisk Ultimate: For gamers, this mouse combines ergonomic design with customizable features and high precision, making it suitable for both gaming and productivity.

Choosing the right ergonomic mouse can significantly improve comfort and reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries, so it's worth investing time in finding the right fit for you.
