TL;DR
Linear vs. Legacy Settings
There is a strong preference among players for using linear settings, as it provides raw input which many find beneficial for aiming [1:1],
[5:1]. Linear settings typically involve turning off all boosts and dampening, with X-Y sensitivities around 50-60% and ADS (Aim Down Sights) sensitivity between 15-25%
[5:1]. However, some players still prefer legacy settings due to the L2 snap advantage in box fights
[3:3].
Sensitivity Adjustments
Finding the right sensitivity is crucial and often involves trial and error. Many players recommend starting with a lower sensitivity and gradually increasing it until you find a comfortable speed that allows for precise aiming [5:3]. Practicing in creative mode by placing a target on the ground and strafing left to right can help fine-tune your settings
[5:3]. Additionally, adjusting building and editing multipliers can improve gameplay fluidity
[5:1].
Button Layouts and Additional Settings
Customizing button layouts can significantly enhance gameplay. Some players use alternative layouts such as moving jump to L1 and crouch to R3, allowing for better movement without taking hands off the controller [4:1]. Other settings like auto-sprint and hold-to-crouch can also be beneficial for certain playstyles
[4:1].
Practice and Personalization
Ultimately, the best settings are highly personal and depend on individual playstyle and comfort. Spending time in creative mode to experiment with different settings and understanding how each adjustment affects gameplay is crucial [2:1]. It’s important not to change too many settings at once, as this can make it difficult to identify what works best
[2:1].
Community Insights
Players have shared various insights and preferences, indicating that while there are common trends, personal experimentation is key. For instance, some players prefer higher build and edit sensitivities, while others focus on maintaining steady aim with lower sensitivities [3:2],
[5:1]. Engaging with the community and learning from others' experiences can provide valuable guidance in finding the optimal settings.
Hey y’all. I wanted to make this post because most of the ones on the subreddit are a year old and don’t give much insight.
I’ve been bouncing around with controller aim settings in my menu for quite a while now. I’ve tried different look response curves, turning on and off look boost, messing with aim assist directly, adjusting sensitivities, the whole nine yards.
I find it hard to stay on target in fights, especially when playing in crossplay. I’m remembering to strafe and adjust aim based on enemy movement, but I still find myself struggling to stay on target.
I know it’s different for everyone and everyone will enjoy different settings but I wanted to ask what everyone else is using and what do you find to be the best settings for controller?
I’m currently using:
130 horizontal
130 vertical
100 look boost (0.5 sec ramp up)
0 aim look boost (horizontal and vertical)
Linear response curve
0 look acceleration
Been playing for a min. Never touched settings. I’d love to see some responses for myself too.Hope my comment gets some traction from other day 1s
I'm temporarily on controller and struggled a lot to find something somewhat similar to mnk, the most comfortable I found for me at least is:
After practicing it's still not the fastest I need to track, but on roller too fast makes recoil control too hard and decreases the amount of assistance from aim assist. Good tip, use left stick aiming, try to make your strafe the one that helps you line your shots while the right stick sort of just uses small necessary inputs that keep your target on center, this helps with shottys/revolver and tracking guns that really benefit from the recoil smoothing.
Hope you get a feel of what you're looking for, the finals is one of those fps where you can't play slow sensitivity because of the existence of movement in a broader sense, from weapons, abilities and gadgets or a combination of these. It's too easy to get shredded from different angles on the spot by the same player.
Best of luck on your journey.
I have no idea what to do for New settings. I feel like I get the gist of look dampening and boost but don't know if I should use it. I've heard that on PC it's usually recommended to turn off mouse acceleration so is it the same for controller? Or do the different aim mechanics mean that I should use dampening? And what about boost?
UPVOTE!! i have absolutely no clue what to do with my settings now.. i play on an xbox with a controller
I've written quite a long comment right on this post on how I kinda got my head around it. Hope it helps!
Spend an hour or so in creative or the new Combine mode whilst tweaking the settings and reading the text beside each option. That way you'll notice what each one changes slightly and you will just have to tweak it until you are happy.
Don't change them all at once then change them again all at once. It will be too hard to know what you need to change next. Just pick 2 or 3 so you can pinpoint exactly what the setting is affecting in game before tweaking it slightly until you're happy.
I've realised now I have the boost option, I prefer the normal sens lower, as I can use the boost as my new way of turning quickly rather than sacrifice accuracy using high sens.
You'll definitely need to read and try to understand each setting yourself while tweaking them all bit by bit getting closer to the perfect settings for you. I spent a few hours in Combine doing the trial and also building etc. And I'm fairly happy with the outcome..
I have definitely got better aim/builds since lowering my sens, and I can still turn quickly when I need to, with the boost enabled. Feels more natural aswell now.
What are the sensitivities you are playing on? I transferred my old settings and they felt so fast.
I also pressed convert and it felt fast I guess it's from the new boost feature. I'm offline and I'm going off memory here, I tried so many combinations I may be a little out so let me know if i missed anything!
I made the list in order to what it is on screen so you can just go down the list easily :)
Firstly I'll mention this now but will explain at the end. I reduced by build sense a LOT down to 1.3x and edit sens is 1.1x . It used to be really high because you gotta have it that high to build fast etc. Not anymore because of the boost feature.
Here's the rest of my settings:
"Look aim" horizontal is at 50%
Vertical look aim is 45%
Horizontal look boost is at like 12%
Vertical look boost is around 10%
Ramp timer for this was at 0.07
I have the "instant build boost" Off
"ADS" aim now...
Horizontal is at 31%
Vertical is at 27%
Horizontal ADS boost is around 23%
Vertical ADS boost is around 17%
ADS boost kicks in after 0.15 seconds
Dampening I reduced a little to 0.15
The rest below this I left alone. I hope you find this a good way to guide you to what you prefer
OH as I said I'd explain before.. I used to build with a 1.8x multiplier and edit was 1.5x multiplier. Since my changes I've reduced them to 1.3x build multiplier and 1.1x edit multiplier. The speed boost helps build quickly still, so don't be worried about that.
Let me know how you get on!
Let me get it. With the new update I want everyone’s opinion!!!
It’s hard to say. I’m trying to learn linear. Which will not feel great at first. But if you wanna try it I have all boosts turned off, no dampening, and I have my sens at 40-40%.
Build on 2.5
Legacy mode
For the current meta I definitely think Legacy is the way to go. L2 snap in box fights is just way too beneficial.
With the new aiming system I feel like I have to flick shot a ton, which I have been practicing, but it is riskier. It makes L2ing before a hit just seems like a waste of a millisecond, when it doesn't snap, which means a lot in end game.
yeah and long range ar tags felt awful on the new stuff
So basically go to the top right with your mouse first click that x and click confirm then go to bottom right click that button the click power icon the click shut down
I think each mode has it's own benefits. If you have steady thumbs the new advanced option is perfect.
If you are more of a quick reaction and twitchy person I recommend the old settings.
Side note, more of a, "I wonder if other people noticed." A few seasons ago I had a k/d of 2.9 and a win percentage of something in the 40% it wasn't insane, but I was definitely better then this current season. The last few seasons my k/d has gone down but I've been improving mechanically, I've practiced more, I've watched more youtubers, I've watched the VoDs of wins and losses. Tbh I've been at a loss for words. I've been discouraged.
When the new settings came out I was excited. I had 3 days off. I tried the new settings all day. I read and watched every video trying to understand the settings. After an hour of different aim courses I played pubs. I thought I'd be wrecking. Nope. I got destroyed. I ended up switching to legacy after 1v1ing in playground and noticing when I ADS I kept missing.
Now that I've switched from the new settings to Legacy I've won much more box fights. I think the legacy setting is the aim assist fromseason 4/5. Idk if that's the case but it seems that way
I adjusted some of my settings the other day (controller player-PS5) but I don’t find it made much of a difference. Also if anyone has their controller settings they’d like to share, maybe I’ll give them a go. Someone mentioned trying “inverted” where it inverts your up/down but I’m not sure how that would make aim/control better that sounds quite a bit trickier to navigate lol. I increased my L2/R2 but I don’t find my movement much quicker.
Let me know in comments if anyone has suggestions!
I switched recently from 4-4 Classic to 3-3 Linear and my tracking and recoil control has noticeably improved.
I also run a weird button scheme, I have LB/L1 for my tac, RB/R1 for healing items, right D-Pad to ping, up D-Pad for select fire and Left D-Pad to select Grenade.
I use 2x back buttons for A&B, and the other set of rear buttons for LB & Ping, so it’s easier to ping and activate my Ult,
Valk Jetpack from tap to hold so you have more control over it. Changing the button bindings so crouch is on R3 instead of circle. 120fps mode is probably the most obvious one. Turning off damage closing the death box for armor swaps.
Those are the ones i got changed aside from the sensitivity settings.
Does anyone play on steady?? I do 4-3 steady no dead zone and it rips for me. But I’ve never seen anyone say they use it when these posts come up.
When you say 4-3, what does that mean?
i use 4-3 linear no deadzone but i use alc per optic settings to help with a bit of aim assist. you basically just go into alc settings, turn on per optic settings, back out and turn off alc settings. the per optic settings bleed through to 4-3 linear mode and helps me keep my aim steady instead of feeling too sensitive when its on normal 4-3 no deadzone.
hope that i explained it well enough for you to understand
Hey I just got my first 20 bomb 4k game today after switching up my controls feel like I have really dialed them in. I play on basically the evolved button layout but with tactical switched with ping. So basically it’s default except jump is L1, crouch is R3 and tactical is R1. This layout allows you to move way better while not having to take your hands off the controller. I also play on hold to crouch instead of toggle and auto-sprint. I do a lot of bunny hopping wall bouncing and slide jumping so these setting really help.
I play FOV 88 because I play on a big tv and couch but people generally recommend higher. Performance graphics for the 120 fps if you can I don’t think I could ever go back after playing with it on.
For aiming I stand by 4-3 linear no dead zone as the best settings (unless the stick drift is unbearable then small dead zone) but for sensitivity it’s a lot more personal preference. You really want all of your dead zones to be off or as small as you can to get the best response from your sticks and R2 L2. Linear + learning how to strafe and move + hip firing more has completely changed my ability to win fights.
Pro controller players of this subreddit, please give me tips on finding my perfect sensitivity on controller, and why that its the best way.
6-8 is where most pros are on legacy settings. On exponential/legacy had most same x/y. Linear most pros have lower Y than X.
Interesting. I recently switched to linear. I had lower y when I was on exponential but made them the same when I switched to linear. (Just out of pure guessing). Do you know why they are saying the y should be lower on linear? Just curious as to the reasoning and if I should consider doing the same
Linear is raw input and most aim is done on the x axis
Go to creative, put a target on the ground, go away from it, and strafe from left to right (try to keep the cursor on top of it), slowly move your sens up or down than keep the sensibility that you feel most comfortable on, after that just ajust your building and editing multiplier. I am not the best player but that's how i got my sensibility at the best it can be for me. Good luck my man!
What controller do you use?
Try going for the default settings first then adjust from there (either you want it to be faster or slower) and just practice with it
Legacy 7-8. (Don’t recommend).
Linear. All boosts turned off. Dampening off. X-Y 50-60%. (2.2-2.5 build/edit).
Ads 15-25%.
Linear is best. If you have trouble start with lower sens like 35-45% until you feel like it is too slow and need to up it.
I usually play at 6 or 7 sensitivity but I was wondering if they are better recommendations for advanced controls. I sometimes feel like I'm moving to slow or something. I appreciate the help
You are too low. Go to advanced settings and bump your look sensitivity up a few points every other game until you feel comfortable. I'm on 60. If you try turning it up too high all at once it scares people off because it seems too insane. By doing it slowly, you become accustomed to lightly using the sticks. Also, make sure you turn off boost ramping or whatever. Keeps things more consistent.
Can use boost ramping if you prefer a slower look turn I find that fairly effective. I'm still getting used to finding my MOJO but it's tough lol. Some days feels too fast and others too slow its just inconsistent.
Yeah I dropped boost for more consistency and just kept bumping my sense up until I hit numbers I liked. I actually bumped down a bit from 60 now too. It just takes some training not to crank the sticks. Originally I had boost set up where it didn't kick in unless I was holding the sticks hard, but I didn't like it as much as I like my set up now.
I play advanced 40 and 20 (normal sens) I think, haven't played in a while.
I’ve been seeing some insane plays recently on Xbox, but my settings have not been feeling right for a while. Most enemies I see have little to no issue with this.
Sometimes I’ll adjust things a bit and feel I am just fighting my controller more than I am fighting the other team.
YouTube has basically had the same 5 or 10 tips about it. Something just feels off.
So my question is, any new tips or curves or window sizes or whatever that people might be using? Or are most of y’all just using default?
Try turning the max dead zone sensitivity up. Like, almost as high as it goes. Dead zone ramp speed low, 10 or less. Then you can have your sensitivity for aiming whatever you’re comfortable with, but if you need to turn around quick all it takes is pulling the sticks all the way.
That’s what I’ve done and it helps a lot, I think. I like having my sensitivity a little lower in general.
Sheeeesh.
Finding my settings was months long process.
Taking bits from multiple sources.
Without going down that rabbit hole, I'd adjust your Auto aim settings as they effect your aim more than anything.
What are your main characters and current auto aim settings for them
My aim assist settings don’t change much, hence the issue.
Currently I’m running 100% sun assist, with a 12 window size, with 65 ease in for projectile heroes and 40 for hitscan.
Too high.
Try 98 strength, 13 window size and 6-7 ease in for hitscan 13 for projectile.
From there adjust the ease in up one or down one for each Individual character.
Report back.
Also to "fight less" with auto aim, you need to make sure you line up shots with left thumbstick and try to barely move your right thumbstick.
I average like 50%+ accuracy on hela, adam, luna, phoenix, mag, loki, strange, emma etc
Honestly, search this sub. You will find many posts about this including long, detailed replies. Including many from myself.
Quick hint : aim assist strength to 100, aim assist window under 30, ease in setting under 25. You want the game to NOT move your crosshair in anyway without your input. Stock settings does that often.
Im platinum/low diamond playing controller on PC, so not great but not the worst; take any advice with a large grain of salt. But my game changed when I raised my sensitivity to 300, but also put one of those foam rings around my right stick to give more control. That really helped me feel like I was moving the way I wanted and not fighting the game itself.
Curve and deadzones are all default. Im not dedicated enough to adjust beyond sensitivity.
I might just be bad and I’m willing to accept that. But I have been decently good at Apex, Fortnite, etc in the past aswell as single player games. I even go to them now and back and forth and it’s like my skill drops entirely and I am playing a game for the first time when it comes to precise aiming.
It is so frustrating, it feels like wherever I am trying to aim it isn’t going there and is somewhere else. I have tried several settings I’ve found on here and on youtube. And I am even using a new controller as my other got drift. I feel even worse on the new one. Some settings I try even give my controller drift or make me feel woozy.
Can anyone help or link settings that work for them with a PS5 controller? Also like I said I am aware this might somehow be a me problem. But I honestly have never had this issue in a game before.
which videos on youtube did you look at that were unhelpful?
i’m also trying to work out ps5 settings so i’d like to know what has and hasn’t worked for you.
Update: I found this video helpful with explaining things but what I weirdly have found is making things better was going to default but changing my aim assist window to 25, as a comment suggested on one of his vids. Still has issues but is slightly improved for sure.
I’m sorry to not be of help but none have worked for me unfortunately. I also feel pretty lost in their explanations of why they are doing the inputs the way they are probably because I’ve never messed with these types of settings before.
crank up the sensitivity and just get used to it is my advice. 450H-350V works for me
I’ve been playing for weeks and I haven’t gotten used to it or improved, if anything my inability to aim at someone further from me is even more glaring now
The game has very low aim assist, whereas games like Fortnite and Apex have very high controller aim assist.
Other people's preferred settings wont work, you have to find a profile that works for you.
Best advice would be spend good 30-60mins in practice range tweaking the settings to what YOU like, not what someone else suggests.
Yeah I just have no idea what the options I am tweaking are even doing. I keep going to the range and trying and getting nowhere.
The game has tool tips to tell you what most of the settings do
Check out Danial ZH’s videos on youtube
Thank you I’ll check them out.
Hi, been trying to play around with different controller settings (sensitivity, dead zone) and seeing the influence on my aim and gameplay. Anyone have recommendations/observations or specific settings they found worked well for them?
So far, I’ve decreased the sensitivity (I’m too jerky with it during high intensity gameplay) and decreased the deadzone min/max for a more consistent feel. Not a pro so not super sure how best to reason about the different knobs!
Thoughts?
Play around with dualzone and change some of the values to where it isn't so slow
Sensitivity is personal preference but higher can make it easier to track bp and spidey
Linear and exponential ramp don't seem to be that good imo
I ended up putting my aim assist size to like 25 instead of 50. Too much interference from other characters when aiming
I put mine as low as possible. Played so much rainbow six siege on Xbox that I hate aim assist on console now🤣
There was a point I didn't have aim assist cause I messed with everything and I didn't do too bad. But when it's just ur thumbs. It definitely takes a toll
I might even have the window at 15. But that shit was fucking me up.
The most insane example I don't have anymore is on temple in of Anubis defense on overwatch 1
I was widow v widow. Widow was top arc I was across on the rectangular platform by stairs. I had the shot lined up and a pharah comes flying up from behind her 5yards away and my crosshair flies into the sky and I die.
I now understand aim assist is a double edged sword and is definitely not perfect
mine are
horizontal sens: 137 vertical sens: 78 min deadzone: 5 max deadzone: 0 sens boost: 100 response time: 0 aim assist window: 30 aim assist strength: 100 aim assist ease in: 0
my reticle is currently a circle with a dot in the middle but just a dot worked better for me so i will most likely change back to that.
there’s also a link i have to a post to help find your perfect sens but its very tedious i didnt use it for her but i used it for storm and it helped me a lot.
i just use linear curve for my sens curve i’ve tried dual s but it just feels so weird for me i cant stand it lol.

These settings work for me. Controlling any hero feels smoother and aim feels more linear to me than in built linear aim sensitivity curve type.
