TL;DR
LG Dominance
LG front load washers are highly praised across multiple discussions. Users cite their reliability, durability, and overall performance as reasons for choosing LG [1:1]
[2:5]. The brand is often ranked number one by Consumer Reports for mass-market washer/dryers
[4:3], and users report minimal issues even after several years of use
[2:1]
[4:2]. Models like the WM4000 and Washtower are specifically mentioned as excellent choices
[1:2]
[1:3].
Electrolux
Electrolux is another brand that receives positive feedback, particularly for its longevity. Some users have had their Electrolux machines for over a decade without any problems [2:4]. It's often recommended alongside LG as a reliable option
[4:2]
[5:4].
Features to Consider
When selecting a front load washing machine, some users recommend focusing on basic models rather than ones with many features, which can complicate usage and maintenance [3:2]. Features like UltraFresh venting systems in GE models help prevent mold and mildew
[2:2], but LG's simpler models are preferred for straightforward reliability
[3:3].
Brands to Avoid
Samsung is frequently advised against due to common issues such as compressor failures in refrigerators, which may indicate similar reliability concerns for their washers [4:2]. Whirlpool has mixed reviews, with some users experiencing issues with specific features like the load-and-go detergent dispenser
[5:2].
Additional Resources
For more detailed reviews and comparisons, users suggest checking out resources like Consumer Reports and appliance-focused YouTube channels [4:6]. These can provide expert insights and help narrow down the best options based on specific needs and budgets.
Hi, all. So, about 7 1/2 years ago we bought a GE WCVH4800K2WW. Had a couple of issues along the way, and now the drum only occasionally fills when I try to run a cycle. My repair guy says its the control board, and that at this point, I should just consider buying a new unit rather than putting any money into the GE, which I've been assured by him and others is a pretty crappy brand.
He's recommending that I go with a Whirlpool (the Speed Queen is just way out of my budget). Any thoughts on a good choice here for regular domestic use (just me and my wife)? And I've been advised by several people against LG, but I'm reading a lot of good reviews online. Anyway, any advice here would be most appreciated.
LG laundry is the way..not their refrigerators, but their laundry rocks. I work at a family appliance store and I have had the WM4000 for the past 4 years with no issues. Make sure to get a front loader with the pump door access in the bottom of the machine.
Purchased an LG front loader in 2011 and haven’t had a single issue. The top 10 front loaders on Consumer Reports are all LG.
This
Everywhere you go, LG will be your best bet. They tend to just work well, and last longer than most of the competition.
We have a Washtower now and it's been fantastic!
X bought a set years ago, both were complete POS, so many issues, once the warranty ran out they sucked even more. Such a waste of money, but she was like "they look nice". Damn
LG is the most reliable based on over 33,000 service calls. You can read more in this article
I bought an Electrolux almost 3 years ago, absolutely love it and haven't had any issues
Thanks for the comments, folks!
I got the GE GFW550. Wish I'd gotten the 650 since that has the smart dispense, but I love my 550 all the same.
What drew me to this particular model is the UltraFresh venting system. This system, in conjunction with antimicrobial infused plastics in the door seals and dispenser trays really helps fight mold and mildew. So with this machine, you can just shut the door and press a button after you're done doing laundry for the day, and it'll run a fan and tumble the drum on and off every fifteen minutes until the door seal is dry.
I like this better than having to wipe out the seal and / or leave the door propped open all the time.
Got the 650 in early 2021.
Been flawless so far. Love all the automatic dispenser and such.
I do find that leaving the door open dries better than the dry cycle. But I also live in a very low humidity climate.
That may not work in a more humid climate.
Been happy with our new GE that has the drying spin cycle after you remove the clothes to dry the seals and drum so you don’t have to leave the door open. Not sure if other brands offer that
We have one also. Very nice not to leave the door open. Also like auto dose. Dryer works great. 4 years going on 5. No issues.
LG and it works great. I leave the door open and pull out the detergent drawer when it’s not in use. I also run a cleaning cycle once a month. No issues with mold or buildup
I have 13.5 year old Electroluxes that are still working well (knock on wood). That's what I do too, leave the door and detergent drawer opened after using to air dry, and run a cleaning cycle monthly.
I got an lg to replace a very old ge front loader. Love the lg. but, it’s shocking how quickly clothes start to stink if you leave them in after a wash. It’s like less than two hours or so
I have a suction cup thing that holds the door open. I love it
LG does make solid front loading washing machines.
I bought a Miele WTI 360 WPM washer/dryer combo unit last month. Very happy with it so far! Very quiet, washes and dries well.
Isn't it kind of small? Like can it handle a king sized comforter?
It's a standard size European washer. Washes 8 kg, drys 5 kg. 64 l drum. We don't usually have comforters in Germany and it's not common to wash your duvets (you do wash the duvet covers; if you need to wash your duvet, you tend to give it to a laundry service).
I can confirm that it fits standard German pillows just fine though.
I’d vote for an LG. Just don’t get the fanciest ones with all the bs options.
Yeah I think I'm leaning towards LG. As few options as I can.
LG 3470 go's on sale for $700. a few times per year.
Watch this video. https://youtu.be/jmtLeB4ZplU
Everyone has very different ideas of what is affordable, but I’d get a Miele if you can. You can probably pick up a 7kg for about the same price as an LG 10kg.
If that’s too expensive where you are, LG’s cheaper models are good too.
So I’ve read the many Reddit posts about the best front-load washing machines, and the top recommendations always seem to be "Speed Queen" or "Miele." While I’m sure these are excellent brands, I’m looking for something in a more mid-range price point.
LG (we've had our front load set for 14 yrs). Also, Electrolux is often recommended and a CR best buy (LG ranked #1). Speed Queen will put you over the $800 budget, and their drum sizes (both top & front load) are small in comparison. As others stated, stay clear of Samsung.
LG is ranked number one for mass market washer/ dryers--They really have their s*** together. I believe GE is number two followed by electrolux. It's not really close however. Laundry is the one thing LG does well. LG refrigerators are horrible however. There's not just one, but at least two class action lawsuits about compressor issues. There's a third class action suit against the water/freezer in the door not working.
All the LG front load washers are basically the same. They all have the same guts and internals. The only difference is the bells and whistles and the control panel.
Yes, please buy an LG, especially the matching dryer. It keeps us very busy.
LG has turned things around on the refrigerator front. Got my parents one last year and it's quietly purring along with zero issues.
And, hopefully lightning doesn't strike me down in retribution for too much good luck, we picked up a Samsung bespoke refrigerator from Costco last November. Zero issues, very quiet, lots of ice.
Check YouTube for Ben’s Appliances & Junk as well as Yale Appliances, Boulevard Home, and Consumer Reports.
I think all roads lead to LG, but they’re the experts.
This is the way.
I just got a 5.0 LG front loader for $799. From a local store. In box recently discontinued model.
I’m happy with my LG pair.
If you’re looking for something “mid range”,you can’t go wrong with LG laundry. Don’t overpay for features though.
I need to buy a new washing machine. Can anyone recommend brands to consider and avoid? It needs to be a front loading one.
I like my Whirlpool except for the load and go detergent dispenser. It's a bad idea. You put a lot of liquid detergent in so you can just load clothes and go. But it's just going to evaporate and dry up if you don't use it every day.
In reality, you only need 1-2 tBS of detergent per load. Those load and goes use too much detergent. Too much detergent can leave residue on your clothes.
LG are great washers acording to consumer report.
More info here. Its pdf https://reprints.theygsgroup.com/cr/reprints/LG_FrontLoad_Ratings.pdf
Lg or Electrolux. Make sure you have access to service for those brands in your area before you buy.
LG.
Speed Queen or Whirlpool Duet. I just changed another LG drain pump and the washer wasn’t even 2years old.
Moving soon and just doing some searching for good appliances. I have never once even considered a front load washer, but I’ve seen several posts here recommending LG front loaders, never anything else.
Is there a reason everyone is recommending front loaders?
If you want a top load, get one with agitator, ones without agitator suck, can never get the load to balance properly.
This is true. My parents finally went back to a top loader after being frustrated by a front loader that didn’t clean as well. Ended up with a top loader with no agitator and a “smart” water sensor (basically not enough water to get things clean). Washed a pillow sham with a small stain on it that should have very easily come out, but didn’t. Took it home to my top loader I bought in 1997, and it came right out. My theory is that it didn’t get wet or agitated enough to come out.
I will always buy top loaders with agitators based on my many experiences with front loaders and/or non-agitators, of which the aforementioned is only one.
Tell your parents this trick, I did wonders for us with a agitator free top loader that wouldn’t get a damn thing clean.
Basically, you are going to trick the washer into using a lot more water. Start a load, let it fill. Then, power it off for one or two minutes. Not pause, power off. Then turn it back on and start the load again. The washer will sense the weight of the water that’s already in there and think the load is a much larger size than it actually is, and therefore dispense more water, which adds to the water that is already in there. Then you have enough water to get shit clean. Stupid, I know. But it did work for us. They may or may not want to engage the extra water button during these fills, too.
Amen! And spend more time having the cycle drain and refill to auto balance, only to unbalance drain and refill all over. 30 minute waah turns into 3.5 hours.
Pretty much every single objective, professional review out there shows front loaders cleaning better while being gentler on clothes. I love my front loader.
I just got a new LG front loader to replace my old Kenmore top loader and I'm honestly shocked at how much better it cleans my clothes. The cycle is definitely longer, but the clean is significantly better.
Exactly. We have used front load washers in our homes for the last 30 years. I won’t own anything else.
Depending on water hardness, running a clean cycle 1 a month to once every 3 months. Removing moisture after use and leaving the door open between washes. It's not a ton of maintenance. But it's more than a top loader.
The only bad thing about a front loader is they don't like being in humid wet basements. Those are the people that complain about the smell in their LG front loader.
Because front loaders are simply better. They require a little more maintenance. But are far better machines.
Miele for dishwasher, Bosch for refrigerator, LG for washer/dryers. Sony for TVs. Easy.
had top loaders for 25 years, front loaders for the last 25.
less water usage
less clothing snags/damage
dryer clothes before drying
supposed energy savings
I have no idea of the current build quality but my LG front loader has been abused by a neglectful, multi*-*pet-owning family of 5 and has been flawless for the past 12 years.
Don't like their fridges, but i think ol' Lucky Goldstar makes a good front loading washer.
My experience is they all eventually leak. I've replaced gaskets to fix the issue before, but Just wondering if anyone can recommend a front load washer that's very reliable? Does it exist?
None of the front loaders leak is the general experience.
I have asked this question on my personal facebook page where I have over 1000 "friends". Almost all of them replied that their front load leaked at some point. There were some that said they never had an issue tho. Makes me wonder if they said that they owned LG. I'll have to try to find that post later.
I have an LG-made Kenmore and have no issues.
Before that (ex still uses) I had a Maytag. The only problem that one ever had was mildew when she wouldn't let it dry out before closing the door.
My 23 year old Kenmore front loader just died 2 days ago. No mold problems, and we were lax about cleaning/caring for it. Left the door open after use and that's about it. It may have leaked a few times but may have just been probably the drain hose spraying when the utility sink was full and draining slowly. Anyone know who made the Kenmores in 2000?
Our Speed Queen has been going on for the past 10 years, with no leaks and no problems.
This video may help.
17 years and no problems. Certainly no leaks and no black mold.
WISH LIST-WOULD LIKE IT TO MEET AS MNAY OF THESE AS IT CAN….. -Top Loader -No known leaking issues with that brand or model (IMPORTANT) -Simple/Minimal-prefer nobs and dials to digital. -Options Include: additional rinse, delayed start, gentle, quick, regular, bulky/heavy duty. -Large capacity (can fit king size quilts or duvet insert in). -Quiet -Reliable for 5 years -Good balancing -Gets clothes clean (open to agitator, but not sure if king size blankets will fit??) -Easy/Reasonable cost to repair -Low chance of mold (Very important) -Good quality, but don’t need it to last 20+ years (will be moving at some point in next 5 years and will not be able to take with me) -Large capacity 5.0 or larger preferred (fit king duvet insert) -Price is “somewhat” flexible
Open to ideas/suggestions on what else I may be missing when looking for a washing machine. Thank you.
Consider getting a frontloader, they wash much better.
Will never get a front loader…,massive mold issues in door seal.
This isn’t really true. I had mold issues with my first one. Replaced the gasket and started using a spray that inhibits that. Haven’t had a problem since. At the moment I am using a top loader and I can’t wait for my clothes to be clean again.
Everybody has front loaders here in Europe and mold issues are fairly rare. Just make sure to leave the door open and run a hot wash every once in a while.
Mold forms on top loaders too. You just can't see it unless you take it apart as it is on the outer drum.
Most new top loaders have fallen from quality, so just go with a front loader, and specifically the LG WM4000HBA, and pair it with the WD300CB sidekick. Hope this helps 🙏🏿
I am not a fan of front loaders….major mold issue in door gasket here in the climate I live (very hot, wet, and humid).
The key is to leave the door open - I never close mine.
Can you tell I am used to older washing machines? This is how they used to be. I guess you could call it my “wish list”….LOL!😂 I made an edit and said “wish list”….wanting as many on it as possible.
There’s a basic Amana or basic GE. People are saying speed queen and I agree but they are expensive.
Thank you….We have a GE and it has been nothing but issues and they did not get good ratings…consumer reports or from repair techs. Amana got an ok rating, but does not have the capacity we need.
Dang. Then I’d go speed queen. Most basic model.
Meron bang meron nito dito?
Or meron ba kayong recos na front load washer dryer/ washer only na na-try nyo na’t tumagal?
Namaalam na yung top load automatic washing machine ko e. Pagod na sya sa buhay. Haha
Anong mga experiences nyo sa front load washing machine?
Please specify the brand, kilogram, age. Thank you. Malaking tulong. Hehe
TCL sobrang bang for a buck
anong detergent ang gamit mo sa front load?
I have a laundry business, and I have LG Front Load Machines. I have 6-year old machines that have no issues and are maintained yearly. So for me, okay yang LG. I can’t really recommend a specific model since I have commercial machines.
Just be careful with the detergent you will be using. Powders are definitely a no-no. Anything na masyadong mabula, don’t use. If you really like Breeze, use the front load version.
may difference ba sa performance ng top load sa front load?
Only one I can think is mas tipid sa tubig si front load
Top load lang sa akin na PANASONIC inberter, 12.5 kg,1 year na rin sya last december,di ako nagamit ng powder laging liquid detergent at every 2 months tinatab clean ko rin.
The Frigidaire wasn't the fanciest, didn't even have a detergent-dedicated compartment, but she was the best. She served my family incredibly well and kept our clothes clean. But, she must retire now.
Anyways, I am looking for a top-loading washer. I hear nothing but horror stories about Samsung and LG lmao
Those old machines were well built. The only thing today I would recommend would be Speed Queen. All metal internals, no plastic, an extra heavy suspension not found in the others, and at least double the weight load.
Top load TC series, or the FF series Front load. Our front load is now past 10 years without problems.
I agree. I know friends and family who have gone thru 3-5 washer in the span of 20 years. I am genuinely hurting LOL.
I absolutely agree! When my Kenmore kicks the bucket this is what I will buy.
Get the bare-bones Amana top load washer.

Key Considerations for Choosing a Front Load Washing Machine:
Capacity: Look for a machine with a capacity that suits your household size. Typically, 4.5 to 5.5 cubic feet is ideal for families, allowing you to wash larger loads efficiently.
Energy Efficiency: Check for the ENERGY STAR label, which indicates the machine meets energy efficiency guidelines. This can save you money on utility bills over time.
Spin Speed: Higher spin speeds (around 1200-1600 RPM) extract more water from clothes, reducing drying time and energy consumption.
Wash Programs: Look for a variety of wash cycles and options, such as quick wash, delicate, and heavy-duty, to accommodate different fabric types and soil levels.
Noise Level: Consider models with noise-reduction technology if your laundry area is near living spaces. Look for decibel ratings (below 60 dB is generally quiet).
Smart Features: Some models offer Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to control and monitor your washing machine remotely via a smartphone app.
Recommendations:
LG WM4000HWA: This model is highly rated for its large capacity (5.2 cu. ft.), excellent cleaning performance, and energy efficiency. It features a steam cleaning option and a variety of wash cycles.
Samsung WF45R6300AV: Known for its sleek design and smart features, this washer has a 4.5 cu. ft. capacity, powerful cleaning capabilities, and a self-cleaning cycle to maintain hygiene.
Bosch 800 Series WAT28400UC: If you're looking for a compact option, this model is great for smaller spaces. It offers a 2.2 cu. ft. capacity, excellent energy efficiency, and quiet operation.
Choosing a front load washing machine that fits your needs will enhance your laundry experience and provide long-term savings.
