TL;DR
Reliability and Durability
When it comes to reliability, Speed Queen stands out as a top choice. Users have praised its robust build and long-lasting performance, although it's noted to be on the pricier side [1:3],
[2:2],
[3:5]. The Maytag MVWP575GW is another model that has been mentioned for its solid construction and comes with a 5-year warranty
[5:3]. However, some users have expressed concerns about newer Maytag models not living up to past standards
[5:4].
Cleaning Performance
For those prioritizing cleaning ability, the LG WT7405CW is recommended due to its large drum and deep wash option, which is effective for heavily soiled clothes [1:5]. The Maytag MVWC565FW is also noted for its strong wash action and simplicity
[1:3]. Some users prefer top loaders with agitators for better cleaning performance compared to those without
[1:4].
Budget-Friendly Options
For those on a budget, Amana offers a decent top loader at around $550, which has received positive feedback for its simplicity and durability [3:2],
[3:3]. While not as feature-rich as higher-end models, it provides a reliable option for those looking to save money.
Energy Efficiency and Capacity
While energy efficiency is a consideration for many, it's important to balance this with cleaning needs. Some users have pointed out that high-efficiency models may not provide enough water for very dirty loads, suggesting that models with deep wash options might be more suitable [1:5]. For larger families, high-capacity models are essential, and brands like LG and Frigidaire offer models that can handle large loads
[2:3],
[2:6].
Negative Feedback
Samsung top loaders have received criticism for various issues, including breakdowns and poor cleaning performance [5:1],
[5:9]. It's advised to approach these models with caution based on user experiences shared in the discussions.
In conclusion, while Speed Queen remains a top recommendation for those who can afford it, models like the Maytag MVWC565FW and LG WT7405CW offer good alternatives for different budgets and cleaning needs.
Just as the title says. I need top load with agitator. All the super extra features are nice and all but the 2 most important things are reliability and cleaning ability.
Needs to be from Best Buy, under $800. I got this list from bestbuy.com, which of these would be the best?
Have you decided on a washer yet? I'm considering this Kenmore model for its reliability and cleaning ability.
We got an LG 7405 and have enjoyed it.
I’d go with the Speed Queen TC5 . built like a tank, old-school agitator, and gets clothes super clean.
If you want something more budget-friendly, the Maytag MVWC565FW is a solid pick. Reliable, simple controls, and strong wash action.
This post helped me find one that doesn’t overcomplicate laundry. Worth checking out!
Why does it have to be a top load? I have had a front load for years and works great. Uses a lot less water and gets your clothes clean.
My front loader crapped out on me after less than 3 years and it never really got the stink out of my clothes.. so back to a top loader with agitator. Those lasted over a decade and always did the job. Maybe I had back luck with the front loader, but every review I see confirms that generally a top loader w/agitator cleans better than front loader or top loader with no agitator.
Front loaders get so gross in the door seal. I had one and whipped it down regularly. It still would get gross and make my clothes musty so much faster.
What did you end up getting?
We opted for the LG WT7405CW and love it. It has a HUGE drum, and had the Deep Wash option which is great for getting the stink out of my basketball shorts. The bottom line is, for anything really dirty or stinky, you need WATER to clean it. The HE is a great idea and works pretty good on alot of things, but for dirty or smelly stuff, deep wash is the way to go. So glad we got this washer!
Deep fill not deep wash
Do you still like this ?
My LG with no agitator doesn’t clean my work clothes, and 2yrs after buying it I am looking for another washer…it wasn’t going to be LG but maybe the agitator makes all the difference.🤷♂️ The more I read up,the more it seems that the same crap is being peddled with a different name brand sticker…it’s exhausting
We got an LG washer with agitator. It has a huge drum. They key to get stinky clothes clean is to use the deep wash, it needs water to clean well
Hi everyone - my current GE top load washing machine (that I've hated for a while as it leaves stains on clothes) is finally starting to die and I will need to replace it. I was looking for suggestions (I'm in Canada) as the reviews for almost any model are either super positive or super negative, which makes it hard to cut through the BS
My criteria are:
Thanks in advance!
Here is consumer report for top load washers Its a pdf. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://reprints.theygsgroup.com/cr/reprints/LG_WashingMachines_Ratings.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiosrechJ6BAxUmgf0HHYuFB-QQFnoECCMQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1EWt9GzK7bhzGDNd7bfzM_
For a top load I reccomend speed squeen (Huebsch in Canada) They got lower rating because they are not water eficient. But they got 5/5 for reliability. https://ca.huebsch.com/products/all-products/#top-load-washers (TR7 have 7 years warranty TR5 and TC5 have five years warranty)
If you dont want to spend so much on Speed Queen Then LG is also solid option.
Here is more info about LG top load washers https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IF43bsh9dJc&t=54s
They use less water on purpose because they are water efficient washers. If more water will be needed LG top load washers have deep fill program which fill drum with more water.some people use also bedding program if they need even more water
What about for comforters and duvets (king size)? Any issue fitting them in with the agitator? My current washer doesn’t have an agitator so there is more room.
Don't know. But it should be fine. LG also sell models with and without agitator. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IF43bsh9dJc&t=54s
We recently got the Frigidaire high efficiency top loader and it has been great.
I just replaced my old dying washing machine with the BLACK+DECKER for my family of 5.
It has worked great so far, fitting plenty of clothes in each load and getting them very clean.
The portability also comes in handy for washing things like kids' stuffed animals and pet beds around the house.
Watch this video.
Be careful of high capacity and look more at load weight. Most modern washers are only half fill, so you 4.2cuft is actually closer to 2cuft.
We have had Speed Queen front load units for over 10 years, and it's rated at 3.2cuft, but we had a family of 5 (3 adults, 2 teenagers), now only 2 adults. They have never had a problem in keeping up with laundry, even when cleaning Queen size bedding.
If you go Speed Queen, watch this on their top load units. The 1st video explains all US available brands. The 2nd is on the 2 Speed Queen top loads, and the 3rd is on why the Speed Queen suspension is different from all the rest.
https://youtu.be/jmtLeB4ZplU?si=JaJZin6s8JgDyctj
I haven't checked for a load weight in my year old LG, but the "full" line is at the top of the tub.
Thanks, I’ll watch them. I guess what I’m saying is I don’t want to be limited by capacity when trying to do a wash. My family is the same as yours, so that’s good to know.
My speedqueen which is branded huesbch here does a load in 27 minutes. Your dryer will not be able to keep up.
Check this video of LG with an agitator. It's doing poor job. There is no turn over of clothes. It almost look like agitator is there just to take more space https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gMCEHEBOIjg&pp=ygUIV1Q3NDA1Q1Y%3D
Model without agitator use difrent cleaning method watch again this video at 1:12minute https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IF43bsh9dJc
I found them in a bussiness section. These are light comercial https://huebsch.com/canada/product-type/commercial/
SQ front load are not that reliable like top loads Here is consumer report for front load washers Its pdf. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://reprints.theygsgroup.com/cr/reprints/LG_FrontLoad_Ratings.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjZ8sDw36WBAxWRiv0HHQrfCYMQFnoECC4QAQ&usg=AOvVaw0erTL0lPByXdLS_7z6SW3_
You can see there one SQ front load model. It got 3/5 for reliability
I can't speak for all their models, but my Frigidaire top loader has been great! Washes big loads for my family of 4 with no issues and it's pretty energy efficient.
Our washer is on its last spin and with two kids in sports plus a dog who thinks mud is a lifestyle, we’re doing laundry almost every day. I’ve always preferred top-loaders because they’re easier to throw stuff into on the fly (inevitably someone finds a dirty jersey right after I start a cycle).
EDIT: I picked this up yesterday and so far it’s handled a muddy load without fuss, thanks for all the replies, really helpful!
What I need is something durable enough to keep up with heavy use, big enough for bedding, and straightforward to run without a million unnecessary settings. I don’t mind paying a bit more upfront if it saves me from replacing another washer in a few years.
For anyone in a busy household, what top-loader are you using and would you recommend it?
thanks
Speed Queen all the way. It’s going to cost you like $1500, but worth every penny.
You can actually buy the top loaders from Walmart in my area for delivery. They are $1,300 currently.
Additionally, Amana makes a decent top loader that's only about $550.
I have had the Amana for 7 years, was left to us when we purchased our home, and it takes a beating! I’m all for getting a more expensive product so it’ll last a long time, but this washer has been fantastic. I love the fact it’s super simple without any frills.
Speed Queen is the BIFL washer, plus no lid lock! That alone is enough to make me want one, my lid lock bypass with a magnet is finicky.
Mine had a plastic tab that shoots out to lock the lid, and if it detects that tab is not in the right place it won't work. Not extended enough, or extended too far.
Well the tab broke. It wouldn't open one time and I forced it, so it snapped.
I got it working again by detaching the lid lock apparatus, putting tape over the remaining bit of tab and a neodymium magnet to make it appear functional, but I have to replace the tape or reposition the magnet often, every few loads. It's a pain but not quite enough pain to take it apart and try to fix it any better, I'd rather just get a new washer, mine has been good to me but it doesn't clean so well with just an impeller.
With two kids in sports and a dog, I’d go with a Whirlpool or Maytag with a removable agitator. Big enough for bedding, tough enough for dirty jerseys, and you won’t be replacing it in a couple of years
I always had top loaders. But when we needed a new one 8 years ago, we opted for a front loader. It holds far more than a top loader, cleans really, really well, uses far less water and electricity. I can load a CaliKing comforter in there w/out any problem. Plus, it's far more gentle on clothes - especially delicates.
If you look at current research and recommendations, front loaders are the best choice. The way they clean clothes is the most efficient, not only in the way they use water but in the way they wash the clothes. Clothes need friction against each other to get rid of stains and odors. Front loaders are natural agitators because of the way the clothes rotate in the drum. The complaints people have about front loaders are usually due to experiences with older models which were not as good and more prone to problems.
I wouldn't mind front loaders if they made them with manual controls for the settings. I can give the machine the correct instructions for the load I'm doing, and I hate relying on inputting electronic instructions into an appliance using water because it always seeps into or condenses onto the control panel that then fritzes out and forgets what it's doing, and I have to reboot the whole thing and run the load several times to get it finished. It's dumb design.
Front loaders are more efficient and will dry clothes almost before you even use the dryer.
My and others experience with front loaders is that due to the force vectors the bearings fail and it's usually more to have it fixed than the washer is worth.
That's how mine failed and it's how my neighbors failed a few weeks ago.
You rely on a huge gasket to keep the water where it's supposed to be instead of a small seal around the drive shaft.
You have to leave them open to dry out and not get mold issues, which means that you have a door flapping around your laundry space whereas a top loader the door is out of the way when open.
No they suck… at least the one at my house did when I bought it. It leave clothes soaking wet, leak out of the seal, and the doors hit the dryer door.
I much prefer top loaders

If you're planning to buy a Top Load washing machine, this guide will help you choose the right one based on your needs and budget. Save smart, buy smarter!
▶️Motor
Choose an inverter motor – It’s energy-efficient, quieter, and lasts longer.
Warranty – Ensure the motor has at least a 10-year warranty for peace of mind.
▶️Drum Capacity
Capacity is one of the first things to consider. For most Indian households (3–5 members), a 7–8 kg drum is ideal. Always prefer steel drums over plastic for better durability.
Capacity Suitable For
5–6 Kg 1–3 people
7–8 Kg 3–5 people (ideal)
9–10 Kg 5+ people
▶️Spin Speed (RPM)
Measured in rotations per minute (RPM).
Higher RPM = faster drying, though clothes will still need sun drying.
Most top load machines offer 650–750 RPM.
If you want 100% drying, consider a washer-dryer combo.
▶️Built-in Heater
Great for removing tough stains and cleaning heavily soiled clothes.
Keep in mind: it increases both price and electricity consumption.
Skip this feature if your laundry is mostly lightly soiled.
▶️Energy Efficiency
Opt for a 5-star rated machine to ensure energy and water efficiency.
All top-load models we recommend fall into this category.
▶️Water Pressure & Hard Water Tips
Low water pressure? Install a booster pump for better performance.
Hard water issues? Most machines don't come with a softener. Use an external water softener to protect your machine and clothes.
▶️Wash Programs
Common modes: Regular, Eco, Quick, Delicate, Intense, etc.
Reality check: You’ll likely use just 1–2 modes regularly.
▶️Recommended Brands & Models
Samsung, LG, Whirlpool these brands are the leading washing machine company in India.
Samsung – Eco Bubble (2025 model) offers a 20-year motor warranty (I personally use this).
LG – Durable and user-friendly.
Whirlpool – Magic Clean Pro with built-in heater.
Panasonic – A solid, value-for-money choice with WiFi features.
▶️Price Guide
₹15,000–₹25,000 is sufficient for a high-quality top load washing machine.
Prices vary based on tub size, heater, and smart features.
Budget over ₹25,000, Consider upgrading to a Front load washing machine model for better efficiency and performance.
▶️Bonus Tips
Run tub clean once a month to avoid mold and odor.
Smart features like Wi-Fi/AI may sound exciting, but most people use them rarely. Think twice before paying extra.
Liquid detergent is suitable for front load washing machine.
you have made a very useful and informative post, too bad you are in a sub infected with cheap low quality content so this might be the only comment you may recieve.
Your forgot about one very important feature of top load washing machines, their capability to preservve water, most machines have an "Aqua Reserve" mode that accomodates the indian way of washing clothes, it preserves the water from the previous session so it can be used again.
And another benefit of this is that these washing machines can store huge amounts of water in them in case of a water cut, I certainly have found this very useful in situations with water cuts, I just fill the tub and turn the machine off, It then stores a lot of water that can be used later and the remainder can be used to wash clothes when water retures, this is the reason why top load machines are ment for our country because it suits the Indian population so well.
My post regarding the simulators Indian air force pilots use for training was removed from the sub because it was "Not related to tech", I did research for that post and it concerned the simulators (which are quite clearly tech, unless they are made by sticks and stones) and the lapses in their advancements and technology, yet it was removed. But since then this sub has had many posts way worse than mine and have been allowed. Actual tech advancements barely get any attention meanwhile low quality posts thrive here, so your post was bound to get thrown away as well, because Indian tech is not a tech related sub buy a pretention, low quality swamp that pretends to be a tech sub.
I read your post, but at that time ( during war ) we should not discuss sensitive topics. Although tech was there but we try to keep this sub politics free. But we appreciate your efforts
My outrage is not limited to that instance alone, I did know the risk of my post at that moment but I personally thought that this is an excellent oppertunity to discuss lapses in technology that are holding us back, just because it was sensetive does not mean it was unreal.
Even then I would have accepted the ban if the mods had made more of an effort than simply declaring my post "not related to tech", deleting a post made a someone who probably has done most in the last few days to bring quality content to the sub reddit probably should get more than just an abrupt ban and a message saying "not related to tech"
That was the first time I had ever interracted with this sub reddit, I just accepted reality and didnt think much of the ban, but after that I have seen all kinds of low quality posts being allowed here, I wasnt the only one to make a post related to war in that time, there were many, theirs were allowed cause they ridiculed pakistan even if their were not related to tech, mine got banned cause a few people could not accept that the Indian air force could ever be inferior in any way and hence the ban.
I do understand the reason for which my post could be banned, but understanding with hypocracy do not go well. Tech is political, if it was not then there would be no advancements made, there is a reason why every country wants to pride itself with their space progarms and milatary, why indians take so much pride when an indian becomes a CEO of some company.
We are using Panasonic washing machine which is going strong , it has water heater. Earlier used Haier too for many years and did not face any issues.
I also have samsung wqshing machine purchased 2 years ago. Still going strong.
Yes, I recently purchased Eco bubble one. Superb machine
Any such information for front load as well
Top loads are awesome. There will be IFB fanboys who'll die on the Front Load hill. Both my mom and I hate them. We live in one of the hottest areas in South India. By the time the Bosch and IFB Front Loads complete the dry cycle for 1 load, my mom can fit 2 loads in a 7kg Samsung. She swaps out clothes mid rinse and mid wash and runs the 10 min dry cycle for each seperately and hang dries in the afternoon where the clothes dry in less than 15 mins where I'm from.
Meanwhile front load locks you out and a full cycle is 3 to 4 hours long. If power is out mid cycle we just yank them out and give a good old beating. Our Samsung sixth sense 7kg top load lasted from 2007 to 2022. It was still functional, we just got a new one for a new house.
It had a plastic drum too. And the squirrels chewed the electronics too many times. I could fix it with just a couple wires and insulation tape because the circuit diagram was right on the cover. I replaced the solenoid valve 3 times. Otherwise pakka. Solid electronics. Simple and did a better job at washing than both my mom and our maid. We got a Whirlpool Top Load for the new one.
Had to move suddenly, have to purchase a new Top Load Washer and Gas Dryer, I used to be an appliance installer for Best Buy up until 2019, back then Whirlpool/Maytag were still solid units as far as top loaders go, but my friend who still installs says they’re all pretty much garbage now unless you go Speed Queen, which is way too rich for my blood right now, already extending beyond my means just to get the move done. I was considering a GE set, but now I’m reading they’re loud as hell and they only fill 3/4 the tub since the Department of Energy says they have to save water, also considered the Maytag Commercial but my buddy from the old days, who’s the PacSales store manager now, says everyone loves them at first but they went with a plastic hub for the motor and they strip out and Whirlpool/Maytag doesn’t wanna cover under warranty. Commercial my ass! He told me that unless you want to spend the money on Speed Queen, everything these days is a crap shoot and they all have severe flaws. If my wife would let me I’d just find an old set of Kenmore 80 Series and call it a day but she wants new.
At this point I’m considering just doing the Black Maytags with the fixed agitator and running a splitter on my washer line with a hose to manually fill it, but I’m reading they have a water level sensor and if it detects it’s overfilled it’ll drain automatically before running the cycle, which is just ridiculous! I hear GE doesn’t do that, but if their motors are really that loud I can’t imagine my new neighbors will be happy…
I will not do front loader washers, we’ve been through an LG set (they were free), a GE set (cheap) and currently on a Whirlpool set, and all 3 of the washers have had to have the control boards replaced, I did drum bearings on the LG dryer twice in 3 years, and the Whirlpool Washer door seal leaked so I replaced it and it had mold within 6-8 weeks, and in just don’t dealing with the at this point.
Can anyone recommend a decent Top Loader washing machine and gas dryer that isn’t a total pile of hot garbage these days? If anyone knows which models WONT drain any extra water I put in please share that info as well, as I’m pretty confident that this is the route I’m gonna go, cuz I’m not gonna deal with half dry clothes with non-dissolved detergent stuck to and staining my damn jeans.
Thank you in advance.
Either Maytag Commercial or Speed Queen; the Speed Queen has an eco cycle but you aren’t required to use it. I have had a Speed Queen since 2014 and have had no issues with it (we have the mid range model). FWIW I don’t find it to be hard on clothes.
I decided to forgo looks and get Speed Queen appliances. A few months in, they are impressing me with how well they wash and dry. My Samsung and LG appliances in the past looked great, but struggled even on day one with getting results like I’m seeing with Speed Queen. It’s nice being able to get the job done in one wash cycle or, especially, one dry cycle.
Which SQ model did you buy
My Speed Queen is about five years old, no problems, works great. I don't use the eco cycle. Not hard on clothes.
Maytag MVWP575GW. Last year's model and you may be able to still find it. 5 year bumper to bumper warranty.
Can’t afford speed queen, I absolutely refuse to buy anything LG/Samsung, and the Maytag Commercial was updated to a new model which sounds like it’s garbage compared to the old model. Every model has a pile of terrible reviews and tons of explanations as to why they suck
Negative recommendation: don’t get a Samsung. Our Samsung top loader is the source of my most tangible frustration.
My front load Samsung washing machine has run flawlessly for 13 years.
Mine too! It just made 13.5 years!
Can confirm, I made this mistake. Sunk money into trying to fix it, and now here I am browsing for what new washer I need to get to end my misery. Samsung was 2.5 years old ands mid-line model.
How about a basic Amana?
mine lasted a little over a year before breaking down with main board issues. would not recommend lol
I am in the market for a new top loading washing machine and would appreciate your recommendations. Our 17 year old whirlpool cabrio is on its last leg.
My list: ✔️top loading ✔️ gets clothes clean ✔️ somewhat quiet ✔️not too deep - My laundry room space is only 27 inches deep (terrible design I know) ✔️ detergent dispenser ✔️extra water or deep fill option ✔️delay start
I got rid of the top load Roper model at the summer place for a new LG front loader. That old machine left lint all over my clothes, and didn't get them as clean, or spin them as well.
Speed Queen
Speed Queen
Speed Queen TR5
I switched my old Maytag top loader for a front Maytag loader . Cleans better and uses less water .
👆 This. 🫡
What is the best top loading washer with an agitator?
You're going to get a lot of answers for Speed Queen. I am going to be one of them. There are essentially two types of Speed Queen top load machines.
There is the TC5003 which is a more traditional machine with a "classic" wash style (as SQ calls it) where the agitator moves separately from the basket. It can be a little bit aggressive, so if you don't have very dirty clothes you may want to go with the other style. This machine (and it's matching dryer) comes with a 5 year manufacturers warranty.
The TR series comes in three flavors. The TR3, TR5, and TR7. These machines all use a gentler style of washing where the "agitator" in attached directly to the basket and just moves along with it. There's less agitation, so it is much more gentle on clothing, but this is at the expense of washing performance. As you move up the models from 3 to 5 to 7, you get more programming options for the washing cycles and longer term manufacturers parts and labor warranties starting at 3 years, then 5 years, then 7 years respectively. Mechanically these three machines are nearly identical, so really what you get as you increase in price and model is more features/controls and longer warranty coverage.
Speed Queen machines are great, but they do have their drawbacks. I have the TC5003 and it's matching dryer and love them, but they are a bit loud. They also have a somewhat limited capacity where a queen size comforter is the absolute maximum that you can fit in the washer.
In general, I tend to suggest folks go with either the TC5 or TR5 depending in your wash performance needs. If you tend to have dirtier clothing from your occupation or hobbies, then the TC5 is great. If you work an office job or have more delicate clothing items, then the TR5 is probably the one for you.
If Speed Queen machines are too expensive or not large enough, then I would recommend basically any GE washing machine that fits your budget.
I’ve had the TR5 for a few years and I’m happy with it. I soak the clothes in the washer for a while on the rare occasions when I need heavy duty cleaning and it works well enough for my needs.
They're great machines and super reliable. I am an appliance tech and I've seen inside a fair few washing machines (even SQs) and know their mechanical operations well. On the TR machines, the entire basket and "agitator" (in quotes bc it really doesn't agitate) move as one whole thing. That's why it doesn't have the "screw" mechanism to circulate clothing/water. They call this the "modern wash". It just moves back and forth with no independent agitator action. This is great for gentler cleaning, but it costs in wash performance. In fact, it's my understanding that when they released the first round of the "modern wash" machines after stopping their original style, everyone complained that they didn't was as well. So they dressed up the old style with some electronics but left the mechanics virtually unchanged and then called the TC machines the "classic wash". So for mechanics, construction workers, farmers, landscapers, midwives, care homes, or anything else where you get really dirty, the TC machine is the way to go. For everything else, there's MasterCard 😉
Shiiit, I can fit a queen comforter, three pillowcases, and my sheets in mine, and itll get them clean. Might do a shimmy two inches forward but it never walks.
Thank you very much for this
Happy to help
I just had to order a new washing machine yesterday because it was going to cost me $600 to fix the shock absorber rods in my Maytag (including labor). If I had the money I would have ordered a Speed Queen but I’m not rich. I ordered an LG wt6105cm it’s gotten good reviews.
I’m not sure but wanted to share my experience with GE - don’t get it! It’s been a year long battle, they’ve replaced my washing machine 4 times and all of them have the same issue - it’s sucks up clothes and no way to get them out without ripping. And the best part is they said they don’t do refunds! Any company that can’t stand behind their products is trash. Everyone shits on Samsung, but my parents had one and I had 0 issues using it, it’s still going 13 years strong.
Not going to be a popular opinion, but we just got an LG top load 8600, but it doesn’t have an agitator. So far so good for about a month. Like it better than the front load we replaced. Fits a lot of clothes.
How’s it going a few months later?
No regrets at all…way better than the front load we had prior. I’d get this set again.
This sub adores Speed Queen. Yale Appliance has a really helpful article about the current models. They have a wealth of information and studies. We went for the TR5 washer and DR5 washer. The rotary knobs still use a control board but I personally prefer them over digital buttons. We purchased through our local appliance store and they can service them if needed. I was also sold on their simplicity and efficiency. Time will tell how we like them but I feel good about our purchase.
For personal reasons, I can't do a front loader, and while my current top loader isn't bad, I know that these things don't last in perpetuity, I was wondering what this hive mind considers the best top loaders. For reference, I live in the States (for the time being).
LG for sure, do not buy Speed Queen, not made like they're used to.
Ours rusted out after 10 years, entire lid and housing at top. Others have complained about rust as well online, stained our clothes.
Also avoid Whirlpool, Maytag and GE, lots of issues.
Do not buy a Samsung. The design allows water to sit in the tub under the drum which promotes mold and any goop from oversoaping to build up until you have brown gunk flinging into the wash tub. Pulled the drum 2 years ago and deep cleaned everything and have been very careful to avoid oversoaping now, and it's already throwing brown gunk again.
Did you pull the drum yourself? I have a Samsung 😖
Yes I couldn't sleep once I saw the gunk in there. 4AM alone in my basement on a deep YouTube dive of how to remove the drum and clean the machine. Got it all back together by myself too!
Yeah Samsung appliances suck. Sure they look sleek and have 9200 washing settings, but they fail.
Just stick to phones and televisions ( if they fixed their power supply issue).
My last house had a small space for the washer and dryer in the ivory-colored kitchen with stainless appliances. Everything was too big or ugly. I jokingly said to the lady at Home Depot "I wish I could find the almond-colored appliances my mom had in the 90s." They have them available on order. I got Speed Queen which also comes in white. Old fashioned top load washer with no bells or whistles to fail and a sturdy dryer. I don't remember the exact price but the were not expensive.
Edit to suggest that you buy a good quality grabber and keep it in your laundry to help get clothes out of the washer or dryer.
“they were not expensive” 🤣🤣🤣
Washer dryer that's not expensive and lasts for years with no problems is a blessing.
The only BIFL top loader is the Speed Queen TC5 ($1350). It has an old school agitator that can handle the dirtiest and most stained clothes.
If you don't have filthy and stained clothes (you work in an office), you can buy the Speed Queen TR series that don't have agitators.
Guys looking for a good top-loading washing machine under 25k.
It should be great in operation (no noise, no vibration).
It should have great wash quality.
It should be energy efficient.
It should be long-lasting.
Any good recommendations?
P.S.: I am currently using a semi-automatic washing machine bought a decade ago; it is no longer providing good wash quality and is taking a lot of time.
I'm using IFB top load. Good washes and I liked the quality
LG 9 Kg, 5 Star, Smart Inverter Technology, Turbodrum, Fully Automatic Top Load Washing Machine (T90AJMB1Z, Jetspray+, Turbowash, Auto Tub Clean after every wash cycle, Middle Black) https://amzn.in/d/cHdSBp8
I bought this one 3 months ago..so far no problems..no noise..but I bought it offline..Also LG service is really good, technicians usually show up in 24 hours..I also have a 2 year old LG refrigerator too, got no complaints with that either..
LG top load automatic. Using since 2011.
Bought LG top load fully automatic washing machine around 2018, had to change its motherboard twice, one on warranty. Now has a samsung, nothing wrong with machine but cleaned cloths are not satisfactory.
With samsung i also read about cleaning not satisfactory.
Personally never had issue with LG washing machines. We have another LG front load, bought in 2017, running in pristine condition till date.
I'm using Bosch more than 2 years. I also took the reviews from family and friend of their current washing machine and they said to avoid Samsung, IFB. Bosch is the best and yeah, the quality of washing is great! the only thing is it's not a top load 😀
LG, Bosch and IFB are good and reliable, samsung could be hit or miss, avoid Whirlpool
Samsung to be avoided. Cannot handle indian washing weight load. Regretting buying one.
Each machine has load capacity if you exceed that it wont handle it properly regardless of brand also if you add in already soaked clothes it makes the weight of clothes double
Stick to IFB. If your city has good service network then check out Bosch as well.
IFB service mfs will call every 1 or 2 months to check ur washing machine. forcefully Come to ur house and will sell anything by telling ur washing needs this. They also sell their overpriced liquid detergent. Mfs looted more than 6k just by installing products which we didn't even ask for. We blocked their numbers but no they still find a way to call by other number. Even after all that our washing machine doesn't look like it's gonna last more then 2 years
Bro, every next comment will be against the previous, people will bash ifb and recommended lg, then bash LG recommend samsung, then bash samsung and recommend other brand

Key Considerations for Choosing a Top Load Washing Machine:
Capacity: Look for a washer with a capacity that suits your household size. Generally, 4.5 to 5.5 cubic feet is ideal for families, allowing you to wash larger loads.
Energy Efficiency: Check for the Energy Star certification, which indicates better energy efficiency and lower utility bills. Machines with high efficiency often use less water and electricity.
Wash Cycles and Options: Consider models with a variety of wash cycles (e.g., delicate, heavy-duty, quick wash) and options like steam cleaning or sanitize cycles for added versatility.
Spin Speed: Higher spin speeds (around 700-1,200 RPM) extract more water from clothes, reducing drying time and energy usage.
Noise Level: Look for models with noise-reduction features if you have a laundry area near living spaces.
Brand Reliability: Research brands known for durability and customer service. Brands like Whirlpool, LG, and Samsung often receive high marks for reliability.
Recommendations:
Whirlpool WTW8120HW: This model offers a 5.3 cu. ft. capacity, multiple wash cycles, and a built-in water faucet for pre-treating stains. It’s known for its reliability and efficiency.
LG WT7800CW: With a 5.0 cu. ft. capacity, this washer features TurboWash technology for faster cleaning and is highly rated for its performance and quiet operation.
Samsung WA50R5400AV: This model is budget-friendly, offers a 5.0 cu. ft. capacity, and includes features like self-cleaning and smart care for troubleshooting via a smartphone app.
Choosing a top load washing machine that fits your needs will enhance your laundry experience, making it more efficient and effective.
